We've been waiting for backup battery tech to get to the point with solar panels that we'd be ready to install. On a whim, my husband scheduled a consult with Steve Michels for Smart Wave Solar. Honestly, my husband thought the orientation of our house would be unsuitable. Instead, Steve was thoroughly prepared, answered all our questions as we went along, and demonstrated clearly how solar would work on our home. Working with Steve was great as we got everything going. Then Jean Fa'amoe joined in as our project coordinator. She was immensely helpful and kept communication and our project flowing step-by-step. Jean answered every question and kept us informed with the various teams and scheduling. The onsite teams were good overall. We had a couple concerns along the way that were immediately addressed. Our project timeline was within the target window. It was exciting to have our system begin producing, using, and storing power. Then Rocky Mountain Power finished their part. Now we are about six weeks out and everything is working well. Our overall experience with Smart Wave Solar has exceeded our expectations. We definitely recommend this team for residential solar panels.

Our sales rep, Steve, supported us through the entire process. He really deserves a full 5 stars but the rest of the process/project was average so I balanced the review at 4 stars total. In Smart Wave Solar's defense, I made the purchase at the beginning of Q4 2025 so I'm sure they were swamped with deals that needed to be completed before the end of the year as the tax benefits expired in 2025. The layout on our roof looks great and the company definitely takes pride in the aesthetics which I appreciate.

From the beginning, Steve Michels was purely informative with not any pushing at all. No “last minute deals only today if you sign” kind of thing. I actually didn’t pull the trigger on this project for a few months and felt very comfortable making my decision and taking the time to ponder on the information I received. Max and his crew were awesome on the install! They were pleasant to work with and their work appears very well done! I’d recommend his crew any day.

Steve Michels was super helpful and easy to work with. The installer was done on one day. The customer service team kept us appraised of the next steps, and how inept out provider is. I only wish we would have done it sooner.

Working with Steve in Sales and Joriel as a PM on our solar install project was amazing. Steve was up front about having a no pressure presentation, which I appreciated, and he was well informed of tax incentives and product details. Joriel pretty much handled everything and kept me up to date on next steps and whether there were things I needed to do. Would work with again!

I installed a relatively small system, 3.65kW, using Runergy panels, and Smart Wave had the cheapest price by far (I got quotes from 4 other companies), while still having the best warranty out there. The install went fast, and everything has been working perfectly.

Great experience with Smart Wave. My project engineer, Shamey, was fantastic and a huge help along the way keeping everything on track. Steve Michels was also incredibly helpful during our initial consultation. Very pleased with the final result!

One of Smart Wave's crew members fell through our ceiling on 9/30/25, damaging property below that point in the ceiling. While I'm not inclined to lay it all out here, let's just say that since then, the response from SW has not been what we would expect. The crew was on site for about 6 hours following the incident, and - aside from immediately removing the large section(s) of drywall that fell (which amounts to tampering with evidence in my book), they made ZERO attempt to clean up the debris that fell on my Harley, a golf cart, exercise equipment, and other items. We told them that crew was not allowed to come back and since then, I would agree with someone else's remark: "Lip service and excuses". They were sure pushing us to let them keep working so they could make use of the large lift they had to rent to access our roof, though.

I signed April 12, 2025 with Smart Wave Solar to install a Tesla Powerwall to my existing home solar system. Found out today, October 3, 2025, they are ready to install my system. Be careful of their contracts. You are committing to a 25% cancellation cost even if their process takes years before they install your system. Staff have been pleasant over the six months, but I feel no approval process for a simple add-on should take 6 months without a buyer’s right to cancel after a ridiculous delay period.

I can't say enough horrible things. Let's start with the most concerning error. Not adhering to national electric code, they neglected to put insulators on metal connectors. This  prevents you from having a short in your system. Luckily the city inspector caught it.I was told if I went on their fast track program I would have the system installed within a month, and it would take one day to install a system of my size. Untrue. It took six visits. Five of which they needed inside access to the house. So I needed to be home. They tell you this the day before. I signed my contract and made my first payment on June 19th. I am writing this on September 23rd. As of right now things are still not up and running. Definitely more than one month.I have discussed the issues with customer service and my point person. Zero effort has been made to make this right. I'm still waiting on an estimate for battery install. The electrician told me about a new battery that was released the second quarter of this year. He was installing one the next day and told me the price. When I asked about it they said that was not correct. It's been about a month and I still don't have information on pricing.You will find similar reviews from the Broomfield Colorado area.

Zack and crew were always cheerful and helpful answering all of our questions. Their work looks great. We’re very happy with them and their work.

Very good experience with both the Salesman and the two installation crews! The salesman explained things nicely, like why I needed a "Critter Guard" (made sense after he explained it, and a neighbor said he wished his solar company had advised him before he got birds nesting in his panels!). I had two different install crews (large install), the first was led by Justin Dunn, and the second consisted of Zach and Barret, both were excellent. They even caught undersized wiring being used in my existing box, and fixed that for me with no extra charge! They walked me thru what they planned on doing, and then showed me afterwards, explaining what each component did. I am a retired Technical Consultant, and kind of knew anyway, but must say, very nicely done! They knew their stuff! If all their people are as excellent as the ones that did my installation, without a doubt, use them. My Salesman, Randy Hansen even still answers questions for me to this day, and follows up long after we paid for the install! That is a real nice touch! I have worked with a lot of Tech companies in my career, most good, a few bad, very few very good ones. A lot of the employees of these companies were still "learning the trade". SMART WAVE SOLAR was a very good experience for me and the people I dealt with really knew their stuff! My 32 Panels and dual Tesla Power Wall 3 units are working well as I post this!

Steve was patient and great to work with in addressing my questions and concerns in negotiating the contract. Loren was awesome in coordinating the paper work with Rocky Mountain Power along with the inspections with Rocky Mountain Power and South Jordan City. She also did a marvelous job with scheduling and following up with with me after the installation was completed. The installation crew arrived on the day that was scheduled and on time! They were professional and courteous and did a very good job with the installation. (they also cleaned up before they left!) I contacted 4 different installation companies before deciding to go with Smart Wave Solar and I'm glad I did and would highly recommend them. Randy

I went back and forth for a long time as to whether I wanted to go ahead with solar or not. Smart Wave never pressured me, never tried to incentivize making an immediate decision. I appreciated this and it was in stark contrast to many companies out there. Next they were very knowledgeable. I tend to ask a lot of questions and do a lot of research myself and all the information was accurate and honest. Now that we're on the other side of the project, I can also report that everything went very smooth. Communication was proactive, no surprises and ultimately landed very well. If you are considering solar, I would highly recommend Smart Wave.

1. Great sales person, Dan. Sold me on solar, and Smart Wave 02-2024 - that's basically the only good moment 2. About one year delay with the system installation. Finally, installed 03-2025. 3. Newly installed system stopped working in a couple of weeks after installation. 4. Do not know what to expect, not sure if I can trust them/their technical expertise at all 5. In addition, I paid all the invoices, and have not been compensated in any form for delays.

Smart Wave was excellent every step of the way. Steve Michels worked with me for over a year while I determined if solar was right for my new home. Their pricing is very competitive(much lower than other companies that have come door to door). The communication throughout the process excellent as well. I'd highly recommend Smart Wave!

We had a great experience with Smart Wave Solar. Our salesperson Steve Michels was super knowledgeable and responsive. The installers and electricians, led by Nick, Jared and Ari, were careful, thorough, communicative and easy to have around. We highly recommend the Smart Wave team!

Smart Wave was reasonably priced and installed an effective system. Working with the scheduling office was challenging at times. In addition, they incorrectly told me the system was functioning correctly despite it not meeting their guaranteed production volumes. After I reached back out with the same data they had access to, they sent out a technician and confirmed and entire array of panels was wired incorrectly. Once the system was fixed, it is working exactly as designed. Overall, you will get a competitive price but you will have to act as a project manager to keep them on schedule and honest. Since installation, I have been assigned Steve Michels and he has been very helpful.

Ben and Robert were informative and courteous during the install. They put something against the house so their ladder wouldn’t leave marks. They cleaned up after themselves. They put on shoe covers when they needed to come in the house. They explained everything they did and situated them in a way that looks really great on the roof. We’re very happy with our experience with the installation of the solar panels and power wall.

RUN! We have had production issues since day 1 starting in 2022. We have never been able to produce the amount of solar energy predicted. We told the company this very quickly after install, and they have yet to resolve the issue. Customer service is not helpful. We have had a case to get compensation based on our contract production guarantee. They guarantee 85% of production estimates, or they will compensate you. In 2024, they reevaluated the expected production, and LOWERED the estimated production from the original estimate. And still, we have had well below that (closer to 70% of estimates). We have had this specific case open since November with absolutely no progress (5 months later). Keep in mind that we had several other production cases before this with their support team, none of which resolved the technical issues. Currently, we are in the process of contacting the state attorney general and Better Business Bureau. You have so many options, please use this company.

Steve was great to work with! He was informative, knowledgeable, and super kind. I added the critter guard to my panels, which were installed at night; the following day, I noticed they did not look very good. I sent Steve a text about it with pictures, and the next day, the installers were over to fix them. They also ensured that my panels were done before the end of the year, which was super important to me. Overall, excellent service and great communication. I am happy to recommend Smart Wave for your solar needs.

Worked with Steve Michels to set up the best solution for my house based on the energy consumption and rates seen with the local utility company. Was able to access a coop cash back rebate, and tax credit to lower the monthly bill which will offset the bill to my utility company.

I had my system sized, designed, and installed by Smart Wave Solar. Signing paperwork to completed install was under 3 months for a 10.5kW system. While the initial contact from Steve Michels was for a different brand of panels he was completely open to my request to get REC Group panels with a similar price with no pushback or attempted to steer me to a different panel that might have had better incentives for Smart Wave. Very happy with the system, install, and process.

Smart Wave Solar just completed installing 17 panels on my house. They did an amazing job! I started getting quotes from one of those door to door salesmen who was super pushy and annoying. A friend referred me to Smart Wave. Steve Michels reached out and quoted me for 2 more panels for cheaper than the door to door salesman quoted me. He went over the whole process and made sure I would generate enough power to not have a power bill anymore other than my connection fee. The installers were fast, clean, and very professional. After installation, Smart Wave kept me informed on what the following steps were and when it will be done. I was extremely happy with everything they did and reccomend contacting Steve Michels from Smart Wave Solar to at least get a quote. You won't be disappointed!

Smart Wave Solar installed my system in November of 2023 and I couldn't be more pleased. The sales process easy to understand and the installation was quick and seamless. Fast forward to today and my power bill is only $20. Can't beat it. These guys deliver on what they say.

Zak came by for my site survey and was extremely professional! He answered all my questions and provided me with even more information I didn't even know I needed. My experience with him and smart wave is above my expectations.

I will start by saying that I very seldomly write bad reviews. I'm a retired Army Medic of 27 years. I always appreciate anyone who works on my home, especially the end line workers doing the hard and dirty work. I've been there...A LOT. I provide drinks and food when accepted and ALWAYS have it available. I open my house to allow workers to use my bathroom rather than sending them to a gas station. In other words, I know how to take care of people who do work I can't. I'm very easy going regarding minor errors as we're all only human. However, apparently Smart Wave takes understanding and tolerance as a sense of inherent weakness, hence this review. I started working with Smart Wave in October 2023. It was the typical sales engagement regarding up selling and encouragement not to wait too long. This is to be expected. It wasn't over the top, just...well, typical. My system (which included a roof replacement) was $50,000.00! Paperwork to start the process began October/November 2023. It took until March to finally get the system installed and running. This was due, in part to several paperwork errors between Smart Wave and the power company. A company that works in only two states would seem to have their collective act together regarding proper paperwork, proper labeling, and proper installation of the base electrical equipment. Instead, it was rookie-like in the sheer incompetence. I let it slide... During the installation, the install team punched a small hole above my garage about the size of a grapefruit because driving with a ladder on a vehicle is really hard. The whole was minor, and I was told it would be repaired. I received an email that someone would contact me about the repair...Nothing. Gentle reminder to Smart Wave...another platitude and a promise I would get a call...Once again, nothing. It took me talking directly with my salesman after two company promises to finally get someone out here to fix the hole...Again, I let it slide. In May 2024 I received a 60-day system check informing me that the system was UNDER producing. I IMMEDIATELY responded to said email and asked for another system check. In this situation, I will accept some culpability because I honestly didn't follow up with the company. But should a customer have to run down a multi-million-dollar company? I contend information should be designed based on a push versus pull system. Afterall, Smart Wave admitted that the system was under producing. In any event, I failed to chase them down and over time completely forgot. Now, a professional company, knowing FULL well the system they installed is underperforming would send someone to check the system in question...NOPE, NADA, ZILCH. No phone calls, emails, texts or anything from this company to reach out and address the issue. Interestingly enough, there is a disclaimer that states something to the effect of the company NOT being responsible for issues unless they are notified. Well, a professional organization, ADMITTING to a system not working as advertised would be interested in protecting their companies good name, right? Nope. Fast forward to November 2024 and I received an email stating that their "technical team" would review my underperforming $50K system. I expressed my disdain regarding the fact that the November email was one week shy of SIX MONTHS for them to respond to my request for another 60-day check...Again, I forgot to repeatedly harass Smart Wave to do, well, their JOB! More platitudes and apologies from the company with some half-baked excuse about "changing systems" and "some" customers emails and/or account info were "lost or improperly" routed to other departments. If, in fact that was the case, the other departments in the company are equally as unprofessional. I mean, I always allow my business email and correspondence traffic to sit, unread, for six months so it can be routed properly! It's either sheer and utter negligence, downright laziness or deliberately trying to ignore their customers. The next email I receive (the next day) states that the technical assessment indicates that there "appears to be an issue with how the strings are connected". ONCE AGAIN, they can see the issue from the top of their system but NEVER sent anyone out to check it, knowing FULL-WELL the issue, as they allege above is due to an improper INSTALLATION! I mean, come on man; really?! Apparently, someone will be here to check my system the beginning of December to correct shoddy work from almost a year ago. Now, my anger stems from the fact that Smart Wave appears to be efficient and professional, but it also appears once they cash your check, it's catch as catch can regarding what you may receive for follow-up customer service. While $50K is budget dust to a company like this, it's a hard hit for someone living on military retirement income. I've been paying for a system for almost a year AND paying more than I should be for electricity due to incompetence and complacency. I fully expect a myriad reasons, (i.e. excuses) for this experience which, I'm sure will be easily written off as a "we're sorry for your experience". I'm further sure that if any restitution is to be offered, it will be MY responsibility to provide the burden of proof, even though all correspondence is in their system...But, Oh wait - Their records are probably lost due to the system switch they conducted. The last thing I'll say is Smart Wave seems to have more good than bad ratings. For that reason and that reason alone, I will not make them come rip out the entire system from my house. One thing is for sure, I will caution anyone who asks that there's a chance they'll have an experience similar to mine. Buyer beware!

Lorenzo and crew did great work with installation, communicated clearly about each step, repaired a damaged panel, and even took care of a pesky yellow jacket nest that exterminators had been unable to eliminate!

We looked at 4 different Solar companies and 3 were very comparable in price and components. I went with Smart Wave because Steve Michels was the easiest to deal with from start to finish. The entire team at SW was attentive and helpful when questions or small things came up. Their timeline was accurate and they handled all the permits, etc.

The benefits of solar and the process of installation was explained in great detail in a way that was easy to understand. The installation went smoothly and quickly. We had three other companies give us quotes and we had given up on the idea of going solar because it was either too expensive or we didn’t feel comfortable with the other companies. We called Smart Wave in one final attempt to get a quote for solar. We were blown away at the affordable price so we decided to go solar powered with Smart Wave and are very glad we made that decision. I highly recommend Smart Wave Solar.

We are so excited to have solar and had a good overall experience with Smart Wave. We enjoyed working with Steve Michel, who was very knowledgable about technical details and options for our solar project. After our initial meeting, Steve was very responsive to our questions, and was accommodating when we changed selections and modified our system. Steve worked well with us to ensure we were getting a system to meet our power needs.

Got my solar through Smartwave and I’d recommend them even if you are just wanting to learn more. Celia Hanson was the sales rep that was wonderful to work with until we finally decided to move forward. She was super knowledgeable and gave me very accurate and detailed information that not only helped me feel better about my decision (costs and integrating within the Tesla software we already have) but also my wife’s desire to keep the esthetic of our home nice. After the sales pitch some of the communication got a little disjointed and progress was slower than k would have liked, but overall I’d do it again. 90 days in and I’m producing a bit more than projected

We began our experience in June super excited to get the ball rolling. We are now in October with nothing to show for the money they have requested. Communication has been less than admirable. Maybe every two weeks. This has been by far the most unprofessional and inefficient experience we have had. Now going into bad weather days and have nothing to show for it.

Price was right! Sales rep was outstanding. Product works great. The Solar panels were installed very quickly but it took another 3 months for all the approvals, meters, etc. This was a little frustrating at times but in hindsight I doubt there is much that can be done to improve it. Communcation during all the waiting was lackluster…which would be my only complaint.

My wife and I are very grateful to Gary Heaton and Smart Wave Solar for their expertise in developing a solar panel addition to our home. Gary calculated the number of solar panels necessary to match our average annual electric power consumption. We have enjoyed paying less than $20.00 per month (the current monthly Rocky Mountain Power participation fee) for our electric service, which includes air conditioning in the summer, Christmas lights at the end of the year, and frequent charging of our fully electric car.

Gary Heaton came and explained everything we needed to know, and using advanced technology was able to recommend the perfect system for us. Not only did we get a system that we have been thrilled with, but we enjoyed the process. Gary made it a wonderful experience! We are so happy we went with this company!

I really enjoyed my experience from the beginning with the sales call from Steve Michels to the end with the final inspection. Steve was very professional and kept things simple. He is very transparent with all my questions and made me feel like he was there to help me. Steve had great follow through on each step, so I feel like Steve had my back through the whole process. He’s even called me since I had my unit for a couple months to check in on me. The installation team was friendly and did quality work. I’m very happy with smart wave and would recommend them to my friends and family.

They were very communicative- kept me informed. I felt they were honest and that we got a good deal compared with other bids. I like the bypass power option when the power is out. There were a few little issues and they took care of them in a timely manner without a hassle, which was appreciated. They encountered some challenges when installing the power that I know took longer than expected but they stayed with it and got it done and didn’t try to upsale or do charge backs.

I had been considering solar for my home when I saw a neighbor who was getting a system installed. After talking to him and hearing his recommendation I gave Smart Wave Solar a call. All of the people I worked with (sales, project management, installers, and support) were very professional, attentive, and focused. They helped me design a system that would meet my needs, I did not feel any pressure to "purchase now" or "you'll never see a deal like this again". They had a broad array of financing options and we found one that worked well for me. During the install they went above and beyond to get our system installed in a timely manner. One of the things I liked about their system is that if the power goes out. I can manually disconnect from the grid and use the plugs directly off the inverters to provide 2000W of output for each inverter. I just didn't make sense to go with a battery backup system in my case (with 1 to 1 net metering, and flat rate billing from our power provider). After our system had been running for over a year, I got a call from Smart Wave saying that the production on one our my arrays was lower than it should be and they sent someone out to fix a faulty cable. System production returned to normal and I have not had any issues since. I would highly recommend looking at Smart Wave Solar!

I got quotes from 6 solar installers and Smart Wave was the best. They handled everything, including my incessant questions that continue to this day. Install happened pretty quickly, and I have only compliments for their customer service. I've had zero trouble except for clouds, lol.

Heat Wave Solar has been stellar. They have been true to their estimates and have been very active in making sure I knew what was happening.

SmartWave had the best package, including 100 percent financing. Installation was smooth and on time. The panels' generation is as forecast, as are my monthly electricity bills. Financially, it was a no-brainer, even with Rocky Mountain Power's stingy purchase prices.

I chose not to review Smart Wave immediately after installation to see how things went. Nearly 2 years later I can say I am absolutely satisfied with the job the company has done. They continue to provide support and updates and have qualified and honest salespeople. We had a great experience! Solar was a good investment and has certainly helped us control and manage our energy expenses.

Excellent customer service and communication. Great value, customization for our home, and knowledge of all relevant subsidies! Highly recommended.
