NEC Solar

We had almost given up on getting a solar installer to take on the installation of solar for our condominium. The roof-line is complicated, the regulatory environment is complicated, and time was running out on the latest tax incentives. NEC took this all in stride. They helped us line up all the steps needed to make things work, worked with us and our condo board to put the right things in place, and executed flawlessly despite difficult weather conditions. We are now fully functional.

The entire roof replacement and solar panel project went smoothly with no surprises.

The project was an amazingly smooth process from start to finish. NEC handled all coordination between Eversource and the town inspectors, was extremely transparent every step of the way, and worked tirelessly to get our system completed and active before the 12/31/25 deadline to receive full tax credits. They were honest with us up front regarding our chances to receive the tax credits and did not attempt to promise what they couldn't guarantee, yet they were still able to get the system to PTO status before the deadline. As part of the project we also needed to upgrade our breaker panel before installing the solar panels, and coordination between NEC Electric and NEC Solar was seamless. Construction crews for both projects were extremely professional, completed their work on time (or earlier!), explained what they were doing when we were curious, and cleaned up any signs of work from the home before they left. Post-project, the NEC team has been more than helpful regarding answering lingering questions, setting us up on Enphase to monitor our system, and enrolling us in Xpansiv's Class 1 REC incentive program to receive additional quarterly cash payments for solar generation. We've been absolutely thrilled by the outcome of this project, and would without hesitation recommend NEC for any residential solar or electrical work.

Working with NEC Solar on our 14 kW system was hands-down one of the best contractor experiences we’ve had - truly exceptional from start to finish. Artie (our Solar Engineer) and Nick (our Ops Manager) went above and beyond every step of the way. Artie was incredible. Out of all the companies I requested quotes from, he was the only one who took the time to design a system that fully maximized our roof’s potential. He treated it like a personal mission to squeeze every last panel on there - pushing right to the roofline to get us the highest possible output. He was unbelievably responsive (often replying within minutes), patient with all my questions, and ran multiple design scenarios until we found the one that worked best. His attention to detail and commitment to getting it right made NEC the obvious choice. When Nick took over to manage the install, the professionalism didn’t skip a beat. His communication was outstanding - I always knew what was happening, what to expect next, and he made sure everything stayed on track. Even when we hit a delay with Eversource, Nick stayed on top of it and pushed the process forward. The install itself was seamless, scheduled quickly, and completed exactly when and how he said it would be. He followed up to make sure our system was online in the app and that all the trade credit paperwork was squared away. I’ve worked with a lot of contractors over the last two years while remodeling our home, and NEC Solar has been the best. Their pricing was competitive, their service was top-tier, and their care for the customer experience is unmatched. If you're going solar, talk to Artie and go with NEC. No one will work harder to max out your roof with clean energy.

NEC Solar did a very good job for the Sharon Historical Society. They installed 36 solar panels ahead of schedule for the price they quoted. The efficient Q-Cell solar panels are producing as much electricity as they said they would (about 13,000 kilowatt-hours per year). NEC Solar installed devices to prevent snow from sliding off, and they installed "critter guards" to prevent birds and animals from nesting under the solar panels. They also provided a cell phone app to monitor both electricity production by the solar array and also electricity usage by the building, which has been very useful for managing our heat pump system and other electrical appliances. We highly recommend NEC Solar.

From the initial contact for a quote, to the completed installation and final inspections it has been a very smooth process and experience. Dana ( Solar Consultant ) was very professional and easy to talk to. She would answer all our questions in a timely manner and had no problem with getting a answer to a question that she wasn't't sure of. Alex ( Project Manager ) was equally as professional and easy to talk with. He came to our property and went over everything about the project and answered any questions that we had. He also sent us any paperwork that needed to be signed to get the system up any running. Both Dana and Alex take care of everything that is needed to get final approval with both the town and electric company. The installation team were terrific in all phases. Fearless too! Up on our steep roof is not for the faint at heart. They were excellent at explaining details of the completed system. We are very happy with our decision to contract with NEC. We highly recommend them and are looking forward to the future cost savings of our energy bills going forward.

We had a great experience with NEC. Artie was excellent at answering all our questions and helping us through the whole thing. Installation was quick and the crew did a great job cleaning up after themselves. The company has also been very responsive to any questions or concerns after the installation. They definitely didn't just disappear after the final check cleared!

The sales team provided a detailed performance estimate using advanced simulation software. The install process went smoothly and stayed on schedule. The install team was very friendly and polite during the process. Now that the install is complete, the system is performing very well. I really enjoy the iPhone app that shows me realtime performance and system health.

I contacted several solar companies while exploring options for solar energy for my home. One initially responded and then faded away. Another didn’t seem very organized or professional. NEC was right on it from the start with excellent communication and commitment right out of the gate Tim was my NEC Sales Representative and proved very knowledgeable and patient in answering my seemingly endless questions. He presented numerous equipment options and ran the numbers on various system configurations I requested. He provided a cost vs. long-term savings projections based on each system in a clear and concise spreadsheet. He also researched and ultimately activated the various rebates for my system and identified information I’ll need to apply for some substantial tax credits. Immediately after I selected my system, Alex stepped in and did a great job as my Project Manager. He orchestrated the smooth, neat and orderly installation of my system. The team that installed the mounting frame on the roof were professional, courteous, and upbeat about their work as were the team who installed the panels. I was also happy to see they observed all safety precautions including fall-arresting harnesses, etc. Alex also confirmed their interface and switching system would work seamlessly with my new emergency generator connection at the panel on the side of the house. The Enphase phone app allows me monitor how much energy the system is producing, how much is used for the needs of the house and how much is being exported for credit. From start to finish the experience was quite enjoyable - thorough, professional and actually exciting! I wholeheartedly recommend NEC.

We had recently removed our oil heat and hot water and went all electric; as a result, our electric bill increased dramatically. We had a small, 15 year old solar array on our roof which was obsolete and much too small for our current needs. We contacted two local solar installers, both of which had been highly recommended to us. We chose NEC because they were more aggressive in sizing the system, and we wanted as large a system as our roof could accommodate. The first meeting with the salesperson was with just me. He spent about 2 hours explaining the ins and outs of solar in great detail and gave us a very reasonable proposal. The cost was about the same as the proposal we received from the other vendor, but for a larger solar array. When may wife returned home from her travels, she wanted to meet the salesperson and get all the details. The salesperson came over again and spent another 2 hours giving her all the details he had given me. We were very impressed with the amount of time he spent with us. He was very knowledgeable, patient, and was not at all pushy. He gave us the information and proposal and waited for us to make a decision. NEC has been an excellent contractor. They answered all of our questions as the system was installed. The project manager and installation crews were timely, professional, and did a very neat job. There no hassles or issues. And they easily coordinated with the roofing company that fixed our roof after NEC removed the old solar system. (There were holes in the roof from the previous installation.) It was very gratifying the other day, when, even with the short days of December, the app that comes with the system showed that over 50% of our electricity was coming from our own roof. We had three companies bid on our ground mounted solar array project. NEC had the best quality panels and inverters as well as the most detailed 3D imaging of our site to ensure our future production. The project was completed on time and as quoted. It was a truly turnkey experience with almost no need for our involvement except for deciding the final height above the ground. NEC took care of all of the permitting with our town and contacted Eversource for the right to apply for net metering. We were constantly informed of the progress of each permit. The mounting frame took one and half days to erect despite encountering ledge on all seven mounting points. This required the use of a rock drill. Great care was taken to prevent damage to my lawn while transporting the drill to the site. The remainder of the array, trenching and wiring was completed in four days. After the trench and wiring was inspected the soil was replaced with great care. The array is now operational, and we are pleased to see we now exporting energy to the grid as well as covering the needs of our home. We are very happy we chose NEC as our installer. The project manager, Nick and his crew were a pleasure to work with and they were very respectful of our property. Thank you, NEC!

I spoke with a number of solar installers before deciding to use NEC Solar, and I felt the need to wash my hands after shaking hands with other companies' sales people (because they were slimy salespeople). My experience with NEC Solar was completely different. They care about their customers, their product, and they environment. Their workmen were efficient and completed the installation more quickly than advertised, and cleaned up after themselves (and even cleaned up messy areas where they hadn't made the mess). The period to get from installation to actively being on net-metering was shorter than anticipated, and we are now banking energy credits and looking at no electric bills.

NEC Solar did solar panels for our primary residence a couple of years ago. It was a great experience with Artie as the company representative. Communications were quick and clear and he explained every steps of the project and met all the timelines We have been so pleased with our solar panels and the amount of power production that decided to do the same for our vacation home. NEC Solar was the first company we contacted.

Couldn't be happier with the results. We chose to install panels and the solar battery and its been great. The NEC Solar staff were friendly and polite when installing and seem to have done a great job. We have had some rough storms and everything has been fine. The support after installation has also been great. I had to reach out to them earlier this year (over a year after installation) as I had a leak through the roof and was instructed to contact the solar company as they may have damaged the roof. The team came out within a day and went onto the roof and confirmed everything looked fine (and that it was actually the area around the chimney which looked like the culprit). A roof company came and repaired the chimney which had nothing to do with the installation from NEC Solar. We didn't have the panels installed until fall of 2022 so we didn't see much of a result (which was expected). In 2023, my electric bill was 0 from April-November. My entire house runs on electricity and I work from home and am using lots of electricity. The solar battery also works very well. There was a storm earlier this year knocked out the power lines and we had no power for almost a whole day and we didn't experience any effects in our house as the battery system immediately kicked in. Lastly, I love that I can view the solar production and manage the battery through the website/app. Very convenient. Whatever your reasons--be it environmental or to save a ton of money (my reasons) or some other reason, go with a local company like NEC Solar--I highly recommend!

Before choosing a company, I met with reps from two other solar installer organizations. I was not inspired and decided that maybe solar panels were not for us. Why? I don't know really, but nothing positive happened during our meetings. Nothing seemed certain as to who would install, when, who my contact person would be. It was clear that the person I spoke with in the last meeting was not someone I would be in touch with again. The company wanted to limit the number of panels to 9, (according to law I was told) but I knew I needed more since I planned to buy an EV and an electric stove and a heat pump. Then I called NEC and the company arranged a meeting with Alex Perdue, a man who had lived in my neighborhood years ago and who would become the project manager fo our installation. Alex could not have been more helpful and trustworthy. There was not a bit of pressure, and he had a remarkably positive attitude. He introduced me to Artie Crocker who was assigned as the solar engineer. Artie arranged to have 16 solar panels installed, he oversaw the entire project, was always here to supervise the installation and until this day, after almost a year, he is there to answer any questions I have. I was so satisfied with what the company had done that I decided to install a mini split system. Chris Cardoza was assigned as project manager, and like Artie, he was always available and oversaw every detail of the operation. For both of these guys it seemed like everything had to be perfect before the installers finished their work. I can't say enough about the honesty, reliability and integrity of this company and these 3 men who represent it. It's pretty unusual. I have referred several neighbors to NEC. I wanted to use solar power for a while, but I owned a condo and couldn’t put it on the roof. So when I got a house, I looked into solar for electricity. I had heard of NEC Solar from signs around my town, so I reached out to Liz Thomson. They call her Solar Liz for a reason. She was great. She spent a lot of time with me reviewing all aspects of solar and gave me a binder with all the information on going solar – including pictures of my house and how much solar it would produce, rebate, and breakeven information. Every aspect of working with NEC was great. They kept me informed of when it would be installed and then when it would be ok’d and turned on by Eversource. It was so great and worked so well that I put on more solar panels a year later on the addition to the house with Liz and NEC.

I offered to Artie and Wyatt to write a favorable review; they did not ask me. They were very responsive to questions etc, and that is important to me. They gave me a lot of information. Also, as far as I can tell, the installation was professional. Very quickly I was producing energy if I was using it. Within a couple of weeks RI Energy replaced the meter and as soon as that was done, my system was producing as much energy as the sun and system allowed. When the sun has been out, even at the low December-January sun angle, I am producing more than I use. I have a plug in hybrid Prius and charging this is more than half my energy usage.

We are 100% satisfied with the solar panel system that NEC installed on our home. From the initial consultation and project proposals, through the scheduling and permitting, to the final installation and inspection process, Artie and the NEC crew handled all of the necessary tasks, on schedule and on budget, with the greatest degree of professionalism. We really appreciated the clear and responsive communication all along the way. Any questions we had were promptly and helpfully responded to by Artie or our Project Manager Alex. The installation crew was excellent, very well organized and focused. The installation electrician even identified and corrected a minor issue with our existing electrical panel. Our (20) solar panels were installed in one day, and not so much as a random screw or scrap of plastic left behind for us to pick up. After two years of service, we can report that our solar array is producing exactly as projected. There is never a need to check on the system, but it is good to know that the Enphase app is available when we wish to monitor our electrical usage and production, (also useful to monitor the usage of supplemental space heaters, ovens etc.) All in all, NEC gets an A++ from us!

Very pleased with the entire process from the initial design through installation and final permission to operate. The installation even looks good, which you don't often see with rooftop installations. This is a local company that specializes in electrical contracting and solar in particular. They were able to expedite permit pulling and inspections. The entire schedule was "as advertised" and their project lead, Nick, kept us informed and helped us with logistics such as registering for SRECs and even forms to claim state and federal tax credits. Highly recommend.

When you think of placing panels on a roof, you may think that it's just a "plug-and-play" installation based on the area available - not the case with NEC Solar. We have a difficult roof, and from the projects beginning definition through planning, design and then installation it was super-customized to maximize the potential of the system with the roof lines. Installation also resulted with no visible cabling, a feat that required ingenuity on the installation team's part. It really felt "artisanal" with an accompanying super professional team. Plus, the process with getting into production was "frictionless" with regards to the utility company and local permitting.

NEC solar designed and installed a 10.26 kW DC array on my roof in June 2023, in replacement for an old solar shingle system installed by another company and that failed after 10 years. They are knowledgeable, explain everything in detail, take time to answer questions, and do not place any pressure to commit. The top quality panels they have installed on my roof work amazingly well so far, 6 months after their installation. I have a 2,400 sqft house that is all-electric and it appears that it will reach "net-zero” averaged over a full year. Because NEC is also an electrical company, they could handle the decommissioning of the defective solar shingles prior to the installation of the new array, coordinating their work with the company that reshingled the roof after their removal of the solar shingles. Overall, their careful planning saved me a lot of trouble and time. I very much appreciated their professionalism and how the entire team worked together harmoniously and efficiently, making their presence around my house a pleasant experience.

The NEC team was wonderful to work with! They did a large install on my house (several years ago) and my parents house (this year). Communication was on point! The team that did the install was respectful of the family and property. Everything was cleaned up each night and the team was SO polite! Would definitely recommend!!

They are by far the most knowledgeable, & competent solar company. The engineers that work with you ( Artie & Alex)show you graphs & satellite images of your home at different times of the day showing how much sun or shade your roof receives. Their service is outstanding & they are always available to reach either by phone, where you actually speak to a real person or email. They use the best products & equipment. We initially worked with Artie to evaluate our house, usage, and what the best system for us would be. Alex took over to coordinate the installation. Both were knowledgeable, available to answer any questions we had, and very professional. All installers in the process, from roof inspection through electrical hook-ups to the panel (and critter guard) installation, were competent, thorough, and nice to work with. NEC checks the operation of the system for the lifetime of the equipment. We got several bids and the NEC price was competitive and offered more in terms of quality, warranty, and extras.

I had considered several solar companies and am very happy with my choice for NEC. Artie was very responsive and knowledgeable through the whole process, of designing the system, and spent several hours with me going over the design of the system. No pushy sales tactics. After committing to the work, Nick was our project manager and made the process a breeze. All the work, permitting, inspections etc were scheduled on-time and I was kept updated throughout the process. The crew that came out did a great job and were very attentive to detail - they were able to minimize the amount of conduit on the outside of the house and able to get around some of the quirks of our house layout. Our system is now up and running and performing as intended!

In Feb, 2022, after researching several companies, I chose NEC to do the solar array on my Jamestown house. Engineer Artie Crocker was my contact person, who made a site visit, designed the array, and explained the system thoroughly. He was knowledgeable, patient, accessible, and always had time to take my calls, even on weekends. I had price quotes and site visits from two other RI companies (Sun Watt Solar and Newport Solar), but NEC was clearly superior in terms of price, quality of the panels, warranty, reviews, service and rebates. The project manager and installers were professional, on time and neat. In the 12 months since my 41 panels were in installed, I have had no problems and have accrued a $1,500 credit on my RI Energy bill. Because I chose "net metering" I can let the credit accrue, or I can donate energy to other RI Energy customers. I was able to give a $500 credit to a needy neighbor, which came right off her RI energy bill. I couldn't be happier with NEC and my decision to go solar. AAA+++

The 7kW system NEC installed for us has been operating for 15 months now, flawlessly. Their installation crews were well-organized and very professional. And Artie, our primary contact, was responsive, thoughtful, and knowledgeable - a big part of the reason we chose NEC. (I was actually shocked at how little some of the other solar vendors I contacted new about the systems they were selling. I learned later that this is because some of them are just middlemen - they actually hire companies like NEC to do the installations.) And NEC stuck with us long after the system went live, helping us get through the National Grid paperwork to get our SMART credits activated. Highly recommended!

Our roof appeared to be perfect for solar but previous proposals we had received didn’t make sense. NEC proposal did. Work was done on time and with careful attention to my wife’s aesthetic requirements. Now, two and a half years later the panels have performed flawlessly and we are saving more than was estimated.

The quote was accurate and the team guided me through the application process and obtaining subsidies, grants and interest free financing. I was home during the entire installation and every installer was professional, courteous and knowledgeable. I requested that none of the wiring be visible and this was achieved. The team helped me clear an area in the basement to install the batteries and controls so they would be accessible. The installation was completed on time and the system passed inspection without comment. I chose NEC over other companies for a number of reasons. They promised (and delivered) the quickest installation of any company. They were always on top of things and addressed my questions quickly and precisely, which is very important in a process that requires a large number of permits, signatures, etc.. They use (as far as I can tell) state of the art panels and technology. Finally, they are local and take pride in their work. Of course, only the long run will show whether the work and the materials were truly good, but so far everything works like a charm and I have noticed no red flags.

I had solar panels installed at my house last year by NEC Solar and everything went perfectly. Dana did a great job explaining everything to me and my wife to make us feel at ease and I feel confident that the products they used will preform for the life of the system. The installers did excellent work, were very attentive to our needs and the system looks and works great. We were concerned with the aesthetics and didn't want pipes running on the roof so they ran all the wires through the attic and walls. The system was sized properly and I generate plenty of electricity to cover my whole electric bill, it's nice not to have to pay an electric bill or have to worry about price increases. The proposal process was thorough and everything was explained and provided on schedule with attentive follow-up. It was a better, more complete experience than I got from the other two proposals I solicited. Engineering checks were made regarding sufficient structure. No changes were needed to the proposal. The handoff to the installation team was professional. Everything was done on schedule and everything was explained. Questions were answered. We got it done on schedule so we did not waste any summer daylight. The engineering documentation provided upon installation was very thorough and made me feel I was definitely getting a utility-grade product. It has actually performed better than projected, and I have tracked its performance closely. The few questions I have had for the sales engineer since installation have been responded-to completely, honestly and in a timely way. I am a happy customer and have recommended NEC Solar to neighbors.

"This Old House" is a Greek Revival, Cape Cod-style home build in 1825. So the duty of any project is to esteem the provenance while making the home efficient and livable. Sensitivity to her bones and aesthetics are a priority for this four-room 912 square foot abode. Artie and Alex and the entire team of NEC Solar went the complete distance to design, curate the best product combination, and execute a beautiful installation. This was all accomplished with the guidance of The Newton Upper Falls Historic Commission. The racking system was a special compact type that allowed for almost a total coverage of the southern-facing exposure of the roof. Two more microinverters were fitted on the back gable. The clean look was achieved with the Board's request that the panels be "all black". When the task was completed, it garnered considerable praise. With NEC do not hesitate to move forward with your solar desires, be it for an old home like mine, or a situation that may present unique challenges. They will work with whatever constraints you may be facing and patiently walk you through the process.

Love my overall experience with NEC. When We decided to go solar, I made sure we “interview” different companies to get a better idea of what is out there and what they were offering. Our experience with NEC starting with Dana who walked us through what they Have to Meg, our project manager was amazing. Love working with them and will recommend them 100%, excellent experience. The best part is everything went smoothly, communication was on point and do not have any complains at all. They are a smaller company in the Solar industry but the quality of their work was amazing, after all they are first of all an electrical company, so we trusted them with our solar project and they didn’t disappointed us.
