Outright Dishonest Business Practices
In 2016 I had Sun Edison who declared bankruptcy later that year, install solar panels on my roof. My roof had been completely replaced in 2014. In Jan. 2020 I noted a leak in the ceiling of my 3rd floor bedroom. I contacted IslandWide energy on from an internet search. Ian W. came & gave me an estimate. From his inspection he reported squirrels had been nesting under the panels & had damaged wires & areas on the roof. He also attributed some of the damage to the installers from Sun Edison, saying they had drilled through the roof. Sun Edison is no longer in business having filed for bankruptcy in 2016. Ian told me there was a lot of damage, but it was fixable. That it would take him an entire day with an assistant. That he would be removing all 18 panels & repairing the roof & wire damage. He further said that Sun Edison failed to install a mesh barrier around the panels to prevent rodents from getting access. He clearly stated that his repairs would include roof & wire repairs & mesh installation. Having won my trust, I contracted with the company. The following week Jan. 21st he did the repairs. After completion he emailed me that night stating "all issues have been repaired". I asked about the mesh, & he said he had not done it. I told him of my concern that the issue would arise again if it was not done. When I checked the bill he now had the mesh as a “suggestion.” He then said he would send someone over to install them. Afterwards he sent me the bill with an additional $810. When I spoke to him he claimed he had told me it would be an additional cost. Not true! At this point I wanted to be done with this company so I just paid. On May 18, I noted leak marks from the same spot in the bedroom & so contacted IslandWide and spoke to Ian an on May 19th. He flatly refused to look at the leak, & now says I needed a new roof, a second lie! At no point during his assessment of the damage did he say I needed a new roof, remember this roof was installed in 2014. Basically it is their position that a job they complete that fails after 3-months is not their responsibility. This company has proven to be very dishonest in their business practices twice. Be warned!
