Warranty repair

Installed 21 panel LG system three years ago. Was very happy with GPE until this issues arouse. Discovered last fall that one panel’s glazing failed. Service rep agreed based on pictures that it was a warranty failure. He then told me that LG doesn’t make panels any more. Rep said he would arrange to have a different manufacturers pane installed. Said it would take months to get a warranty replacement from LG. I read LG has panels to cover warranty replacements. It’s been 6 months since my original email. I talked to the service department twice as well as emailed several times. During my last conversation the rep told me I was low priority. Annoying but understandable. But 6 months is not accepatable.

Not quite 5 stars

1) Initial system install (I paid 100%) , but never got installation of the monitoring system. 2) Not so friendly when calling back 7.5yrs later inquiring about adding a few more panel (due to the increase consumption), I have a txt saying I quote "Unfortunately we cannot install to your existing system and those sunny boy inverters, they are not compatible with the new panels. It would have to be a new inverter based whole system." After paying 52K back in 2015, one would think we would be able to install a few more panels. Now we have to buy a whole new system? - something doesn't jive. 3) We called Enphase, they had an easy solution to add additional panels to our system.

Response from Green Power Energy

Hi Jeffrey, This is correct, you cannot add panels to your existing SMA system. Stringing additional panels to an SMA is not possible. In addition, the state, utility, and local municipality do count it as a separate installation. You can add panels using Enphase, but this is a new system altogether and detached from your current system. New SREC meter, new set of permits, etc. We can certainly get a price for this type of arrangement. I looked up your name in our system and your project did not come up. Can you please email solar@greenpowerenergy.com with your address and email so we can find your project and answer you privately. Thank you!

Good Sales Process, Communication after sales has been terrible

The sales process was good, they met what I needed, and they engineered an OK system. They set the whole system on a single String, even though the Inverter supports 3 strings with Isolated MPP Tracking. This should have been split up because I have some panels facing North, and the rest South. This will limit my output because of shading and angle differences. The Communication from the company has been one of the worst experiences. My project manager Alex Murro was non responsive, and it took several emails and calls before I would hear anything in response. The install was at my beach house, a 2 hour drive from where I live. The install was scheduled on a Friday, so I took off from work and drove down. The installers were supposed to be there at 9:00, so when no one was there by 10:00 I emailed and called. Eventually they got back to me stating it was to windy for the install. I was at the house, and there was absolutely no wind, and no wind in the forecast either. It was a beautiful day, and there was not reason except they either screwed up the schedule, or the crew wanted a Friday Off. No one called me to let me know they weren't sending a crew, so I wasted my time, my Work PTO, and mileage on my car. For the finalization of the permits they didn't provide all the info to the township engineer and I am still waiting for a status for the past 20 day from the company with out any proactive communication from the company. I have had the panels on the house for almost 45 days, and I still can't use them. The most important part of a Solar Company is their Customer Service, and Communication. Any company can install solar panels, but how they treat their customers is what is important. I would NEVER suggest this company, especially if your rep is Alex.

Response from Green Power Energy

Sorry to hear about your frustration. Unfortunately there was a scheduling mishap which should not have happened. I understand it is frustrating to have taken off of work and not have the construction team there that day. Our VP of Operations spoke with you and is resolving the stringing issue. All paperwork has been closed out with your township and the system is near energization with your utility company. Our customer care team will be reaching out to schedule a post installation meeting once the system is activated.
