Working with NRG has been great
I selected NRG to provide our solar system and I'm so glad I did. They've been great to work with, are very professional, and have a fantastic team. After doing a lot of price shopping, my neighbor and I both selected NRG for our solar installations. While NRG isn't the absolute cheapest, we felt like it was worth paying a little bit more as they were much more professional and gave us more confidence in their ability to do a great job over anyone else. Now that the solar panels have been installed, I can say with certainty that we made the right decision. I also want to give a special shoutout to Maya, Bryan, and Piper from NRG. They've been so helpful every step of the way.

I had NRG install a first system and then a second system (when I realized I needed more capacity) and both installation processes were completed to my satisfaction. They are thorough and made sure I was satisfied with the overall experience. I would recommend them!

8 Months, No panels, Borderline criminal
Good experience up until I paid a hefty downpayment -- then I went for months without hearing from the company. 6 installation dates cancelled, and now 8 months with no panels installed and I don't know what else to do, other than filing a complaint with the state. Do not make this mistake.

13 Panel sys w/ battery backup
Overall I am very happy with NRG. There was some delays with permits and getting approvals but that is outside of NRG's control. My sales person (Antoinette Miner) was very knowledgeable and friendly which is why I purchased from NRG. She didn't put me through a pointless presentation like other solar companies tried to do. Instead I asked for numbers and cost and we got right to business which was great. The process from start to finish changed from one rep to another at the various stages of the process. Even though a particular depart could have given me better answers in terms of helping me understand complex technical details i was asking about how the system works, the overall process was great. I want to specially mention and thank Nicole Corona. Nicole provided me amazing service!!! I left a voicemail and she returned my call the same day which was great. She did a great job a listening to my concern and addressing it promptly and effectively. It's not everyday someone provides this level of quality costumer service. She was very kind, very friendly, and had such an amazing positive attitude. In addition to being super nice, Nicole was very knowledgeable, she answered all my questions and took the time to make sure everything was ok. She made sure I was happy. It was a pleasure speaking with Nicole.

Great Experience, Easy to Follow
I worked with Nicole Corona as our Installation Manager who was a delight to work with. She was informative, quick to respond to all my questions, and helpful throughout the entire process. It does feel tricky to follow all aspects of the process, so having a helping hand allowed me to be put at ease.

Ground Mount Residential Solar
I tried many different solar providers during the proposal stage. Eventually went ahead with NRG Energy. Most other solar providers would not want anything to do with a ground mount system, as they are much more complex to do than roof mount. For my home, it was particularly difficult as the ground installation was on a 30 degree slope and had limited access for mechanical equipment. In addition had a ground squirrel issue. NRG Energy had no problem providing a reasonable bid for this system. I am glad I went ahead with them. To start with, Antoinette did the initial proposal. She was excellent in accommodating my unique requirements (including rodent protection and warranty) and putting a reasonable proposal together. I also had a very positive experience with her when it became necessary after the design to make adjustments based on the design team's input. Her flexibility and efforts were crucial to making it possible for this project to proceed. Later on came the installation and the many issues that had to be overcome due to high slope and poor access. Aracely was the manager assigned to overseeing the installation. I am so happy about that. She was superb in navigating all issues encountered with persistence and making sure everything was addressed along the way. If I do another solar project with NRG (system expansion), which is quite possible down the road, I can only hope Aracely can be the installation manager for the project. Not only was she good in managing the complex installation, I found her to be particularly responsive to my inquiries and in keeping me posted every step of the way. She is a true star! I can not thank the installation team of Martin and Karen enough. They performed with a high degree of professionalism and attention to every detail, so there were no surprises when it came to passing the inspections. They went way beyond my expectations in every way and came up with very good solutions to the installation issues. I wish every contractor could be as professional and detail oriented as these guys. Too bad it is not possible to give them 6 stars. Throughout the process my experience with NRG has been very positive. It is clear to me this is a company that cares about quality of their work and customer satisfaction.

REC & Tesla Power Wall Installation
We made the decision to sign with NRG Clean Power due to the competitive pricing and great rep who reached out to us. Devon definitely provided us with so much information more than any other company we looked into prior to finding NRG. Our permitting process was a lot longer than expected but it’s understandable since we signed during holiday season. We were happy when we got to installation. Janet Medina was our coordinator, she kept us updated and always returned our calls and emails. She also explained that they had more delays than usual due to the rush of NEM 2.0. We were lucky to have our application approved by SCE. Our installers were great, and inspection passed on the first visit. Thank you NRG & team for a great system!

Stay far away from NRG Clean Power Inc.
Reviews: Stay far away from NRG Clean Power Inc! We signed a contract with them at the end of October 2022. Finally got an install date for the end of April 2023 only for them to have our power turned off for the day, but not do any work due to lack of materials and a crew. Second install date was mid-May 2023 but the crew had the wrong materials for attaching the anchors to the roof, the plans were wrong, and the battery placement was wrong. Now it’s early July and we still don’t have an install date. The company is dragging its feet and not always responding to us. We were forced to file a Better Business Bureau complaint to see if they can help get this project finished. This entire process has been such a nightmare, with NRG screwing up and over and over again. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

Lack of Progress with no end date in sight
I signed with N R G in October, referred to them by our local electricity provider, Silicon Valley Clean Energy. Great initial experience, was told most projects take 2-6 months. Once the contract was signed, very poor communication and slow progress. Every step in the process is handled by a different person, and once you have completed one step, you are handed off to the next person and it seems like you are at the bottom of their queue. I'm coming up on 9 months and nearly fully paid - and still don't have an installation date - I'll get an email every few weeks saying that they can't find installers. Calling them, you'll get no response but voice mail. Emailing them - you might get a response in a week. Its like we're being held hostage - I can't make any real vacation plans due to waiting to know when the install will happen. Matt K, a reviewer in Alameda - we're experiencing exactly the same thing. Jessica in Alhambra - I hear you and have similar comments about Janet Medina. I am envious of those who post great reviews of this company - but I'm not seeing it.

Getting the Job Done the Right Way
A solar project (storage battery and/or panels) can be complicated. It actually involves various vendors and entities. NRG AND their subcontractor(s) are 2nd to none, they know how to work together to get the job done the right way. They have adopted a can-do culture, which prioritizes customer service and professional quality (of all the equipment and the service that goes with it). NOTE: The is another solar business out there that shares a similar name, called NRG Upgrade. Please do not mistake NRG Upgrade with NRG Clean Power. The one you need to go with is NRG Clean Power...

NRG unresponsive after signing contract
I had a very positive experience with NRG during the sales process: the people I spoke to were knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and quick to follow up with answers to my questions. That changed as soon as we signed the contract and paid our deposit. Communication became sporadic at best, with each step of the process taking much longer--in some cases many months longer--than what I was told during the sales process. To be fair, there were external factors that contributed to the delays. Our project involves installing new roofing, and apparently several roofing contractors are still backed up after the winter storms in early 2023. But that doesn't explain or excuse the near-total lack of communication or the apparent lack of interest in moving our project forward. It has consistently been a struggle to get even the most basic details from NRG, and I've had to follow up every few weeks just to see if anyone is still working on our project. I can't speak to the quality of their work because no work has been done, or even scheduled, more than seven months after signing. I strongly recommend against working with NRG.

A Sunny Thank You!
I learned that getting solar on my house isn’t as easy as saying “I think I want solar on the roof!” It doesn’t take a weekend, it takes a lot of personnel, and it takes a patience person to deal with all my questions! Sales was painless and transparent, my advisor during the whole adventure was really good at putting my fears at ease and helped me understand all the different layers of the process, and the installation looks great. Saving money on my electric bill and being green at the same time doesn’t have to be a hassle and NRG showed me that for sure.

LACK OF COMMUNICATION
The sales pitch was great. They answer all your questions and let you know that they will be every step of the way. That was what I thought when I signed with them. The way they operate is that for every step, you get assigned a new person. Communication is great but only when they need something from you. However, if any issues arise, don't expect them to work with you to resolve them. And when you think they are resolved, think again. Because you get a new person, your problem will come up again. I'm currently in the installation phase and NRG made changes to the plans that I aprroved. Maybe I am nieve, but I assumed if had to sign the plans, I'd at least get a say or told if they make any changes to them. Instead, I find out after they do it. They are making up excuse after excuse and NRG it was made for my benefit. To me, it was their benefit because re-doing it the way the plans were drawn would have cost them. I was never informed that there would be any change to the plan even though I was on-site and available during the installation. Also, NRG never came to the site with the subcontractor they hired. They sent a contractor that barely spoke English, used the tools I had at my house without permission and barely spoke one word to me. Now that I am questioning the work, I'm getting told if I want them to change it, I'd have to pay for it. All I'm asking is for it to be installed according to the plans. I will update this later as I move along but don't expect them to keep you informed of the project. I didn't realize I needed to be a babysitter for the install but that is what I'm going to have to do. For reference, if you get Alexandra Maka from design, don't expect a prompt response. It took her days to respond back and still couldn't get my issues resolved. If you get Janet Medina as your project coordinator, expect her to tell you to voice your concerns to the contractor on site because according to her "she's not there" and her job alone is just to make sure materials get delivered and the contractor shows up. Please note that I am only a 30 minute drive away from NRG's office in Canoga Park.

Disappointed after sale
After doing months of research, I began getting quotes from the big companies in summer of 2019 (the last year of the 30% tax rebate). Started with Tesla (who had just acquired Solar City) and SunRun, only to find out that they were quoting me the cheapest panels they had (Hanwa). Additionally Tesla power walls were still new & not readily available. SunRun had the audacity to tell me I didn't need a backup battery even though I wanted one. Thankfully, I found energysage and solarreviews to do more research as well I got more quotes. I ended up getting some quotes through energysage and some from local companies. I ended up using Tesla's new streamline pricing and NRG ended up matching it and added an LG backup battery. And financing was based on credit not just the standard 5.99 rate that Tesla & SunRun had for a 20 year loan. NRG also had Hyundai panels with a 30 year production warranty. So it all sounded great. $110/month. That was pretty much the end of my good experience with NRG as I'm pretty sure my sales rep left the company. My coordinator or whatever was not responsive at all and it took emailing someone higher up to figure out what was going on. My system got installed barely before the end of the year but then I had to wait for PGE to approve it and all of the other stuff. For reference I started the process in July 2019, install didn't happen until November and barely got final inspection done in December in order to get the 30%. For the most part I hadn't had any issues just questions here and there. It would usually be someone new responding as I don't think I've to anyone consistently the last 4 years. And then last year in 2022, 3G networks were discontinued. Of course my system had a 3G Sim card so it stopped communicating with SolarEdge and my app. NRG didn't notify me or anything that this would happen. I immediately reached out to NRG and got a delayed response like usual from a new person. I was referred to a contractor company who was supposed to help me upgrade my Sim card to 4G. I followed their instructions only to find out that they didn't have my site info. I went around in circles with both companies while they continued to drop the ball. Meanwhile I did research and figured out if I had hard wired my inverter I could avoid this issue completely. However since my ethernet wasn't plugged in, I needed to switch my system over once I hard wired it. I ended up using a local company (Solarplonics) to help me out. NRG's contractor company just wanted me to pay like $700 or something for them to come out and upgrade my Sim card. This year (2023) after all the heavy rain in California my system had a ground leak system error. I reached out to NRG and they seemed to be delayed again so I reached out to my local company at same time. NRG dropped the ball several times and really never got back to me and could not send a tech to me for over a month. I had some hiccups with the local company so I kept trying both at the same time until I could get someone to my house. The day before Eduardo from NRG calls me and states the tech has an old truck & needs to know if he needs a ladder. Of course I tell him I have a two story home and insist that he brings a ladder. Tech arrives next day with nothing. After looking at my system, I had to convince him to go up on the roof which was the whole reason why he was there. I offered my ladder and he got up on the roof. At one point he asked me for his tools but I didn't know what he needed so he came down. Basically my waterproof J box was full of water and he showed me a photo. He said he drilled some holes in this "waterproof" box and stated that it should've been done during install. Right after he left I called Eduardo and voiced my frustration and he ensured he'd get back to me. 3 weeks later I haven't heard anything at all and I just sent a follow up email because this is terrible customer service. I'm not trying to bash the company but rather give a honest review of my experience so far. I will update it if I hear back from them.

Solar Panel and Battery System Residential Installation
The purchase and installation of the complete solar panel (REC 9.3 KW) and Battery (Tesla Powerwall 13.6 kwh) is complete. I am very very satisfied with installation of the system and how the systems operates. It has more than exceeded my expectations by quite a lot. It is working as it should with no problems. And the system looks nice as well, both on the roof and on the garage wall. I am also very happy with the cost of the complete system, as it was very competitive compared to other quotes I received. The personnel at NRG were always in communication with me during the various phases of the process, and the cost was as quoted. They have helped with the Southern California Edison certification process, for the solar panel system, the battery system, and now the virtual power plant agreement with SCE, always taking care of the required paperwork. I am very happy with NRG.

My solar system just started operating.
I want to recognize Mr. Eduardo Santoyo of the NRG customer service for his prompt and exceptional help to me in resolving all my issues encountered in regards to my solar system. My experience is as follows: I am happy with the solar system installed on my roof by NRG Clean Power. This is just the first year of my solar system, but I am already feeling a strong confidence that I don't get ignored when help is needed. First time, I called and asked about the "Permit to Operate", Mr.Eduardo Santoyo directed me to the right person. Second time, I needed clarifications with him about the actual capacity and output of the solar panels and inverters and their integrity, if it meets specifications as shown in the designs. I was satisfied with all his answers because he knew his stuffs. The third time, I informed Mr. Eduardo Santoyo that one of the panels was colored very dark in the middle of a sunny day. He told me to give him a couple of days to take care of it. Mr. Eduardo Santoyo was prompt and had resolved the problem. Lastly, I told him about the "IQ Gateway" not reporting. He walked me through on how to put it back to work. I waited enough time and surely, it got back working. Mr. Eduardo Santoyo had done a very excellent job. He is a very dependable person.

LACK OF COMMUNICATION THROUGHOUT PROCESS
During the design, permitting, and installation process NRG has minimal communication and follow through. Every step of the process I was "transitioned" to a new person to oversee one particular part of my project. I spoke with one person regarding design, I was assigned another person for permitting, someone else called me regarding if I wanted to update and change the panels I was getting to a new brand, and a final person for installation coordination (which half way through was changed to a new person). I was told my installation date was going to be on a Saturday and I had a work van and workers from a different company show up on a Friday. I was not informed that NRG was subbing my project out nor that it was being moved to an earlier day. For my final inspection I was told I would be notified by phone between 8-10am the day of inspection when my inspection was scheduled for. At 8:15 I had someone show up at my house for inspection and advised I was scheduled between 8am and 12pm. When I called my installation coordinator to find out where the lapse in communication was she did not call me back until after 10am "I had a late start today, and the installer never told me when they were going" I am flabbergasted by the lack of ownership staff have in the projects and that customer service is clearly out the window.
