Worst experience i have had as a homeowner
This was the worst experience i have had working with a contractor as a homeowner. There were problems from the start, and yet I stuck with NRG because i wanted to get finished in time for the expiring federal tax credit. Installation team: After the initial work, they left the house having disconnected wiring to lighting for a stairway in my home. Even though this was a safety hazard, they took more than a week to even return to take a look at it. They failed fire inspection FIVE TIMES. They were a constant source of frustration and required coming to my house at least four times as often as would have been necessary, due entirely to incompetence. Installation Coordinator: I worked with two. The first did absolutely nothing, for months, then quit. This cost me thousands of dollars in missing the deadline for the federal tax credit. The second, while he attempted to do his job, was totally ineffective at getting the installation team move faster, to fix their mistakes, or to do things correctly the first time. His responses to my concerns were patronizing platitudes. Planning: They over-estimated the size system that could be installed. They were not familiar with local county requirements.

Very bad
This was the worst experience I have had with a vendor. I ordered my system 12/9/2024. It was not installed and functional until 12/31/2025. You should be very careful to understand their rating. Understand that about 10% of the time people are not pleased. Do you want to risk a project of this size with 10% odds of it going poorly? It is hard to describe everything that went wrong over the course of more than a year. Here is some of the summary: 1. The engineering process has a lot of people who do not actually understand the rules. deciding how things would be laid out on our house wall was difficult, and then when the installers arrived, they said the design would not work. 2. They never are proactive. The only way for things to move forward is to email and call. As an example, today I got a Permission to Operate Granted email from them. I received the email from SCE over a week ago. They then give many instructions on what to do. It is a lot to read, and buried in there is the most important instruction to go in the Tesla app and flip the permission to export switch. You have to learn and figure everything out on your own. If you don't do this, you are literally losing money. 3. They tried to get me to sign up for the SGIP program saying it was just free money. This is simply not true. SCE does not give money away for free. I was educating them on the system and the costs to the end user. 4. They sent a survey where I complained. They have never responded. 5. Once my design was completed and they got a $14K payment. Right after they told me they could not get batteries for 4-6 months. 6. We tried changing to a different manufacturer (Tesla to Enphase) to speed things up. They sold me a system that SCE had not approved and could not be installed. We had to revert back. 7. The initial battery sizing was so far off we had to double the capacity. I wanted to be able to run through the night on batteries. This was not possible with one battery. 8. We finally got City approval for the system, and it took another 3 weeks just to get an install date. 9. I referred a friend at the beginning of the relationship. You are supposed to be compensated if you do this. They have never paid me. I can go on and on. They are all nice enough people, but the systems and processes that NRG have are truly terrible. You might get lucky, you might not.

Incompitent and unknowlegable about this field
You really got to watch these people. The people I talked to where not knowledgeable and where adding equipment to the contract after it was agreed upon. After bringing this to the managers attention he was able to correct this but sent me back to the same associate to further ignore my needs. Also did not pay attention to my needs or setup I was looking for. After informing them on more than one occasion that I needed a whole home backup I was still trying to be contracted for partial backup. I informed them of my current setup and the soft start system I had on my AC unit as well as informed them of the whole home generac system and solar system I already had. I was only looking for a battery to keep my solar panels from going down in the event of a blackout. I also was looking to stay within the enphase eco system. Even adding a single battery within the same eco system proved to be just to challenging for them. I would truly hate to see the fumbling that would occur if I trusted these people with a whole system install. User beware but definitely watch your back with these people for sure. I only asked for one battery as I already had one installed. And was looking to take some run time off of my generator which i made them aware of.

A $57K Solar System Disaster: Beware of Their Shoddy Service!
Poor communication among their teams led to a complete disaster with my solar system setup. I explicitly told them I needed to charge two EVs and power two ACs, which is why I upgraded from Powerwall 2 to 3. But the system they installed is utterly useless for that purpose. Instead, I ended up with a $57K system that's only good for powering light bulbs, a fridge, and the WiFi. Now, they have the nerve to ask for more money to fix their screw-up. Beware, once they have your money, they couldn't care less about you or any after-sale service!

Slow and incompetent
NRG was only efficient at the sales portion. I had a cash purchase and i had to pay 90% upfront up to the stage of permitting. From that point onwards, that was when things syatt to get unpleasant. It took a few months to get an installation appointment. The installation representative lack responsiveness and I had to constantly be on their tail. The installation is fully outsourced to a contractor. The first day of the installation was a wash as the lift to the rooftop wasn't the right one. The hardware had to also be moved inside the garage as opposed to drawings which stated outside. That was resolved quickly and the installation went on. The nightmare started after the initial inspection process failed. The fix required was a simple smoke detector in the garage for the battery that linked with an auxiliary alarm inside the home. If the battery caught fire, the smoke alarm triggers and warns the people inside the house. This was apparently to complex for the NRG team sitting in the call center to understand. Things went back and forth between the NRG team, the contractor and the city inspector. It took probably 4 or 6 attempts to get things resolved. There were times when the city inspector showed up but the contractor wasn't present. On the last attempt, the NRG service rep came by instead, very pleasant gentleman and this time around, I intervened and provided specific instructions on what to do, and the inspection got through. It's been already more than 4 months into the installation process and I taught finally ita done. The service guy attempted to finally turn on the system, to my dismay, there was a problem in the hardware itself. So the usual back and forth a few times between the contractor and NRG. Then finally NRG decided to send over their best contractor and that gentlemen resolved it within 1 attempt. The Enphase hardware works well, I know I paid a lot for it but it's doing its job and I don't have any qualms on it. The outsourced contractors live on razor thin margins and they carry out the necessary work orders, I honestly didn't see any issue with any of the technicians who came by. I paid 90% cash upfront for the system, thats more than enough to cover NRG's cost and margin. The Enphae hardware works well. This leaves only NRG itself as the primary problem of this entire farce. Their remote team sitting in their comfortable offices gar away or maybe even working remotely from their bedroom was totally incompetent and unorganized. Turning back the clock, I could have found an independent contractor myself, saved tons of time in the process and money in the process as well. So either go with a provider who have their own installation team like Sunpower or Tesla; or find your own contractor. Don't waste time and money with big companies like NRG as you could well just be paying a lot more for incompetency.

Stay far away from NRG Clean Power Inc.
Reviews: Stay far away from NRG Clean Power Inc! We signed a contract with them at the end of October 2022. Finally got an install date for the end of April 2023 only for them to have our power turned off for the day, but not do any work due to lack of materials and a crew. Second install date was mid-May 2023 but the crew had the wrong materials for attaching the anchors to the roof, the plans were wrong, and the battery placement was wrong. Now it’s early July and we still don’t have an install date. The company is dragging its feet and not always responding to us. We were forced to file a Better Business Bureau complaint to see if they can help get this project finished. This entire process has been such a nightmare, with NRG screwing up and over and over again. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

Lack of Progress with no end date in sight
I signed with N R G in October, referred to them by our local electricity provider, Silicon Valley Clean Energy. Great initial experience, was told most projects take 2-6 months. Once the contract was signed, very poor communication and slow progress. Every step in the process is handled by a different person, and once you have completed one step, you are handed off to the next person and it seems like you are at the bottom of their queue. I'm coming up on 9 months and nearly fully paid - and still don't have an installation date - I'll get an email every few weeks saying that they can't find installers. Calling them, you'll get no response but voice mail. Emailing them - you might get a response in a week. Its like we're being held hostage - I can't make any real vacation plans due to waiting to know when the install will happen. Matt K, a reviewer in Alameda - we're experiencing exactly the same thing. Jessica in Alhambra - I hear you and have similar comments about Janet Medina. I am envious of those who post great reviews of this company - but I'm not seeing it.

NRG unresponsive after signing contract
I had a very positive experience with NRG during the sales process: the people I spoke to were knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and quick to follow up with answers to my questions. That changed as soon as we signed the contract and paid our deposit. Communication became sporadic at best, with each step of the process taking much longer--in some cases many months longer--than what I was told during the sales process. To be fair, there were external factors that contributed to the delays. Our project involves installing new roofing, and apparently several roofing contractors are still backed up after the winter storms in early 2023. But that doesn't explain or excuse the near-total lack of communication or the apparent lack of interest in moving our project forward. It has consistently been a struggle to get even the most basic details from NRG, and I've had to follow up every few weeks just to see if anyone is still working on our project. I can't speak to the quality of their work because no work has been done, or even scheduled, more than seven months after signing. I strongly recommend against working with NRG.

LACK OF COMMUNICATION
The sales pitch was great. They answer all your questions and let you know that they will be every step of the way. That was what I thought when I signed with them. The way they operate is that for every step, you get assigned a new person. Communication is great but only when they need something from you. However, if any issues arise, don't expect them to work with you to resolve them. And when you think they are resolved, think again. Because you get a new person, your problem will come up again. I'm currently in the installation phase and NRG made changes to the plans that I aprroved. Maybe I am nieve, but I assumed if had to sign the plans, I'd at least get a say or told if they make any changes to them. Instead, I find out after they do it. They are making up excuse after excuse and NRG it was made for my benefit. To me, it was their benefit because re-doing it the way the plans were drawn would have cost them. I was never informed that there would be any change to the plan even though I was on-site and available during the installation. Also, NRG never came to the site with the subcontractor they hired. They sent a contractor that barely spoke English, used the tools I had at my house without permission and barely spoke one word to me. Now that I am questioning the work, I'm getting told if I want them to change it, I'd have to pay for it. All I'm asking is for it to be installed according to the plans. I will update this later as I move along but don't expect them to keep you informed of the project. I didn't realize I needed to be a babysitter for the install but that is what I'm going to have to do. For reference, if you get Alexandra Maka from design, don't expect a prompt response. It took her days to respond back and still couldn't get my issues resolved. If you get Janet Medina as your project coordinator, expect her to tell you to voice your concerns to the contractor on site because according to her "she's not there" and her job alone is just to make sure materials get delivered and the contractor shows up. Please note that I am only a 30 minute drive away from NRG's office in Canoga Park.

Disappointed after sale
After doing months of research, I began getting quotes from the big companies in summer of 2019 (the last year of the 30% tax rebate). Started with Tesla (who had just acquired Solar City) and SunRun, only to find out that they were quoting me the cheapest panels they had (Hanwa). Additionally Tesla power walls were still new & not readily available. SunRun had the audacity to tell me I didn't need a backup battery even though I wanted one. Thankfully, I found energysage and solarreviews to do more research as well I got more quotes. I ended up getting some quotes through energysage and some from local companies. I ended up using Tesla's new streamline pricing and NRG ended up matching it and added an LG backup battery. And financing was based on credit not just the standard 5.99 rate that Tesla & SunRun had for a 20 year loan. NRG also had Hyundai panels with a 30 year production warranty. So it all sounded great. $110/month. That was pretty much the end of my good experience with NRG as I'm pretty sure my sales rep left the company. My coordinator or whatever was not responsive at all and it took emailing someone higher up to figure out what was going on. My system got installed barely before the end of the year but then I had to wait for PGE to approve it and all of the other stuff. For reference I started the process in July 2019, install didn't happen until November and barely got final inspection done in December in order to get the 30%. For the most part I hadn't had any issues just questions here and there. It would usually be someone new responding as I don't think I've to anyone consistently the last 4 years. And then last year in 2022, 3G networks were discontinued. Of course my system had a 3G Sim card so it stopped communicating with SolarEdge and my app. NRG didn't notify me or anything that this would happen. I immediately reached out to NRG and got a delayed response like usual from a new person. I was referred to a contractor company who was supposed to help me upgrade my Sim card to 4G. I followed their instructions only to find out that they didn't have my site info. I went around in circles with both companies while they continued to drop the ball. Meanwhile I did research and figured out if I had hard wired my inverter I could avoid this issue completely. However since my ethernet wasn't plugged in, I needed to switch my system over once I hard wired it. I ended up using a local company (Solarplonics) to help me out. NRG's contractor company just wanted me to pay like $700 or something for them to come out and upgrade my Sim card. This year (2023) after all the heavy rain in California my system had a ground leak system error. I reached out to NRG and they seemed to be delayed again so I reached out to my local company at same time. NRG dropped the ball several times and really never got back to me and could not send a tech to me for over a month. I had some hiccups with the local company so I kept trying both at the same time until I could get someone to my house. The day before Eduardo from NRG calls me and states the tech has an old truck & needs to know if he needs a ladder. Of course I tell him I have a two story home and insist that he brings a ladder. Tech arrives next day with nothing. After looking at my system, I had to convince him to go up on the roof which was the whole reason why he was there. I offered my ladder and he got up on the roof. At one point he asked me for his tools but I didn't know what he needed so he came down. Basically my waterproof J box was full of water and he showed me a photo. He said he drilled some holes in this "waterproof" box and stated that it should've been done during install. Right after he left I called Eduardo and voiced my frustration and he ensured he'd get back to me. 3 weeks later I haven't heard anything at all and I just sent a follow up email because this is terrible customer service. I'm not trying to bash the company but rather give a honest review of my experience so far. I will update it if I hear back from them.

Don't Use This Company!
Don't hire this company! We have solar, and wanted battery backup. We went with NRG Clean Power in April, 2022. I currently have a battery sitting in my garage, uninstalled. EVERY time estimate they have given for completion has been wrong (the first saleswoman said for a simple battery-only install, 6-8 weeks!). As others have said, communications are horrible. The ONLY time this company has initiated contact is when payment is due. In July (after I contacted them to ask about the 6-8 week estimate), I was told the permit application had been kicked back by the fire department, so it would be a couple more weeks to get it approved. The permit was approved at the end of October (I only found this out when I received a payment request via email). I called to ask about the payment request, and was told at that time that installs were being scheduled 2-4 weeks out, so I would be contacted soon to schedule the install. In late November, and again in December, I reached out to NRG Clean Power to ask about my installation. After contacting NRC Clean Power executives (via LinkeIn), I was given an installation date of January 16th (a Monday). I received a call on Friday, January 13th, telling me the installation was cancelled and would have to be rescheduled. After receiving a new Project Manager, I was given an installation date on February 28th (today). I emailed my Project Manager on Thursday, February 23rd, just to check to see if everything was in order. His response was, "I have not received any update from the installer that there will be a delay, which means this is still scheduled for 02/28/23." Gee, you think maybe you could just check with the installer to confirm? Well, it's 10 AM, and I haven't seen or heard anything from NRG or the installer. In six weeks, it will be one year since we started this debacle. Time for more frustrating attempts at communication with this company. Save yourself the trouble, for anything solar-related, go with a different company.

Bad subcontractors, bad communication. Would not recommend.
errible experience with this company. Signed contract in April 2021 for straightforward solar install and panel replacement. Beginning of August they show up to install the panels - whoops, the install crew didn't know that there was a panel replacement so they didn't have the power disconnected by the utility. Another month goes by, they partially install the solar but don't start the panel replacement. Another month goes by, and they do the panel replacement but don't bother to schedule the inspection and the utility to reconnect the meter. No worries, they reconnected it themselves without inspection or permission of the utility. They schedule and either no show, or fail the inspection for not having plans on site, or various other reasons, NINE times. No exaggeration. All while lying to me and trying to blame the inspector. "The county won't do two inspections in the same address on the same day." Nonsense. Finally passed all the inspections in December 2021. It's now March 2022 and they still haven't fixed the holes in my living room and dining room ceiling from the installers drilling all the way through my roof and my ceiling.

Stay Away - Use a More Professional Installer
Detailed review of my experience below, but the main points: - Deceptive sales tactics - Poor design - Unprofessional installer - Poor coordination and communication throughout Sales Process - The initial bid NRG provided was a low ball bid intended to win the work, but did not reflect the actual cost. The initial quote was priced at $2.76/watt, but the revised bid was $3.39/watt (+23%). - The quote included solar panels that conveniently were no longer available during the follow up conversation - During the negotiation process, there was a sneaky attempt to switch materials. When I requested the installation of the NEMA 14-50 outlet be included for free, this was added, but there was another change to materials that was not called out (from Enphase microinverters to a SolarEdge inverter). Luckily I read the details carefully Handoff from Sales to Project Manager - Project manager had no details about the NEMA 14-50 outlet installation so I had to connect the dots Site Assessment and Plan Designs - Even though a site assessment was conducted, it seemed to be ineffective - The initial plans suggested that the inverter be installed as an obstruction to my front door. The installer had to look at my neighbor's solar setup to identify a new approach - The installer had difficulty locating the J-Box in the attic, which resulted in more time wasted. Shouldn't this have been covered during the site assessment and communicated to the installer? Materials Logistics - No details were provided about the fact that materials were going to be dropped when two different deliveries were made - The solar panels were dropped off in front of my neighbor's garage and the community trash/recycling area, which restricted access to these areas for a day and a half, which not only inconvenienced me, but also my neighbors Installation Process: I was told this should take 1-2 days to complete, but it took more than 5 weeks in total Visit 1 (October 1) - I was told that the installer would arrive in the morning, but they didn't get here until the afternoon (4pm) - The wrong lift was delivered so the install was delayed further - The installers were only able to work for a couple of hours before they had to stop when it got dark - The solar panels were left where they were dropped off, leaving the obstructions in place and inconveniencing my neighbors. Not to mention they were exposed to the risk of theft, just sitting in the driveway Visit 2 (October 2) - The installers came back the day after, at least they were on time on this occasion - However, they were only able to complete a couple of hours of work due to the heat - At least they were able to move the solar panels to remove the obstruction and install the NEMA 14-50 outlet Visit 3 (October 22) - In all transparency, this visit had to be re-scheduled because my wife went into labor. Although, this would not have mattered if the install was done in the 1-2 days originally quoted - For the 3rd visit, the installers were late again. Quoted arrival time of 2:30pm, actual arrival of 5pm - The job still wasn't completed Visit 4 (October 23) - The installers had difficulty locating the J-Box (as described above), which made the process take longer - Installers needed access to the home to get into the attic. They did not take much care as they came into the house (i.e., did not use coverings for shoes; were not careful in carrying the ladder in the house - I heard it hit my walls a few times) - Installers left without providing any sort of update regarding whether the work was done or next steps - Was later told that the final touches were to: paint the conduit by the main panel, turn on the system and provide instructions on the monitoring app - I later learned that the installers left the light in my attic/crawl space on and only found out about this a month later due to a different inspection Visit 5 (11/6) - Originally scheduled for 11/5, but it did not happen. No communication from the installer just no showed - Installer showed up unannounced on 11/6 to finally complete the install process, but I wasn't given access to the monitoring app as had been previously communicated until 11/8 Inspection - A couple of NRG employees came on-site to support the inspection. They parked in an inappropriate location blocking the driveway and garages. They were also rude to one of my neighbors when she asked them to move. - The NRG employees asked if I had any paperwork for the inspection. However, I had already given everything to the installer. Another example of poor coordination and communication - I did not participate in the inspection, but I did overhear the inspector say one of the stickers was incorrectly labeled. The inspector also expressed his frustration that they had to send inspectors to our home 4 times because nobody bothered to call them to cancel the prior scheduled inspections when the work was not completed on time - At least we did pass inspection

NRG IS NOT A SOLAR COMPANY!!!!
Our sales person Hunter was great at the beginning then things started to go south after the project coordinator took over (Rodrigo). He was now left the company and I don't blame him. Our PTO started in the middle of July and have nothing but issues with the solar system. We are having to reset the inverter and breaker several times a day. Now the breaker is overheating and issues are only getting worse by the day. Customer service is non-existent and it shows from upper management. We've sent them numerous emails and it's always crickets. We are not electricians but can tell when something is wrong with the breaker from the get go. We've asked NRG to relocate the solar PV breaker to the empty subpanel instead of the main box and there is no response. NRG is quick when it comes to billing/payments but is no where to be found when there are issues with the solar system. Those who are considering should be warned and turned away immediately. Save yourself the headaches and your hard earned money. Go with a trusted solar company

Stay away from this provider
I approached this company based on positive reviews I found on the internet. Asked for a quote and Any Mantilla gave me a quote and presentation over zoom back in September 2020. He told me if I accept the offer within the 2 days he will give me additional discount and then sent me all the disclosures. It was very deceiving when the disclosures were asking to get at least 3 quotes from different companies before making the final decision and Andy asking me to accept the offer right away to be qualified for a 1000 dollar discount. Unfortunately I accepted their offer without getting second opinion from other providers. Miranda Stilles was in charge of the project. She told me the the city approval and permit takes 1- to 30 business day. Believe or not it was December and they were saying that they have not received the city permit yet and every time blaming the city and covid for the delay. Finally, I contacted the city my self and they told me the application that was received the day before (December 10, 2020). After months of telling me nonsense, I found out that they've been lying all the time. Being cheated, frustrated and losing the tax credit for 2020, I asked for cancellation and refund of my down payment. Without ever accepting and acknowledging their wrongdoings they begged me to give them another chance which I sadly did. Finally the panels were installed and they installed a wrong voltage inverter which was not compatible with my city voltage. It took another month to fix this mistake. How can a company install a device without knowing what the neighborhood voltage is. Eventually I got my solar producing energy at the end of April 2021- A simple process took 7 months to complete. I had such a tribble experience with this company.

Horrible Service - NEVER use these company
My experience with NRG lasted for over a year and was quite one of the worse experiences with a contractor ever. In July 2019, I requested bids from a number of solar installers. NRG was not the most or least expensive, but I decided to go with them because their reviews. I am willing to pay more, in this instance $2K more, for better service especially on something that is going on my home for years. I went into contract with NRG in 2019 and they ensured me that the installation would be completed by 2019 so I could get my full tax write-off of 30%. Needless to day when the project was not completed on time and ended up taking over a year to complete and I lost out on a portion of the tax write-off, they only wanted to give me $200 off my installation cost. The main driver of my rating is that I never felt like they had a full understanding of my project. Every time I would ask a question it would take days or a week to get back to me. Most of the time the response was because I had to send a follow-up email asking if they even reviewed the first email since they had not responded. They would make appointments with me and either their workers or PG&E would not show up. I had 4 different installations dates which I took time off of work, that never went through. I understand they cannot control PG&E, but 2 of the 4 times was due to their issues. There was problems with getting the permit, but instead of letting me know of the issues, they did not let me know until I had asked about the reason for the delay. For me to feel like I knew what was going on in the process involved me reaching out to them and not vice versa. Not once was I kept in the loop for my project without me have to reach out first and the project took over a year to complete, which did include some months due to COVID which I do not hold against them. When I asked to speak with a manager, NO one called me back. I left 3 different voicemails over the span of 2 weeks requesting a callback, but instead of calling me back, they just ignored the voicemails. To this day 3 months later I have still yet to receive a call. During this time the only person who would talk to me was the billing person because they were insistent on me paying the bill in time. I had 3 different accounts contacts during the span of my project and one was apparently lying to me about stuff. When things go well with this company, their service is apparently amazing from what I could tell from reading other reviews, but the moment things go wrong and you need help, they ghost you and they are not their to help you. The definition of how you should rate a company's service is not when things go good, it is how they step up to help the customer when things go bad and this company did nothing for me when things went wrong.
