We’ve had our panels for about 4 years now and haven’t had any issues with them. We save a considerable amount in energy costs during the sunny months, which is pretty regular in Texas, and any credits we build can roll over to future electric bills.

"Buyer Beware"

This is the only online review I have taken the time to submit. Longhorn has provided me the worst customer service help I have experienced throughout my adult life which I am 46. No problems with the installation of our solar panels. Longhorn was responsive and attentive to our questions. However, early this year, I noticed that our system was showing a flashing red light. My subsequent call to the San Antonio office resulted in a promise of an appointment for a technician. After five months, numerous calls to the San Antonio and Austin offices I was told was that Longhorn was currently experiencing manning problems with their technicians. When I finally did get a confirmed appointment from the Austin office, they didn’t coordinate with the San Antonio office which failed to schedule a technician. Resulting in a lost a day off work while I was waiting for the technical. Once I called the San Antonio office, they said I should receive a call back but nobody ever called me back to explain what happened. Ultimately, I lost confidence in both Austin and San Antonio offices and so I reached out to the regional manager who I found on the Longhorn Solar website. At first, they were responsive and guaranteed to look into my problem. However, my issues were never resolved. Therefore, after six months of having no service on my solar panels, which I paid cash for, I requested service from a contractor on home advisor. The contractor came out and diagnosed my problem, which was an installation error on Longhorns part, and provided me with a solution and quote. The day that the contractor fixed our solar panels is the day Longhorn sent a technician to my house, without informing us after seven months of no service and throughout sporadic communication initiated by me. I would not recommend this company to any of my friends and I would caution anybody considering investing their hard-earned money in solar panels from Longhorn Solar to do your homework.

Elizabeth will set you up with a complete solar and energy analysis, timelines, panel layouts, rebates and tax credits. All you do is decide if you want solar! Most importantly, there are $0 out-of-pocket options. Installation was simple. It took a few weeks for everything to be finalized with the city, but well worth the wait. Connor Roth and the entire operations team was communicative and fast. Honestly the easiest home improvement we've made so far! TLDR; Call Longhorn Solar, now!

Very easy process for a new grid tied 11.7kW system

After reading several reviews, I called to get a bid from Longhorn as one of my 3 bids. I had gotten a good feeling from an out of town company with which I had met with over the phone, another company that didn't ever get back to me after the initial contact and Longhorn. I was dragging my feet a little getting back to Longhorn about an appointment set up. The person who sets the appointments was very persistent, and I'm glad she was. Thomas C. came out and gave us the information about the panels, inverters, system design, costs, loans, warranties, rebates, incentives, installation process, etc. Honestly, I was dreading that I was going to to be treated to some hard sell tactic before he showed up, but nothing could be less true about what happened with Thomas. The whole meeting felt more like an informational session with questions and answers throughout. He then left us to our decision making after he did a few measurements. I struggled a few days with the decision between the two companies that had followed through with us, but in the end, we felt very comfortable with Thomas and the information he had provided and more comfortable knowing the company we were and would be dealing with is in town. We also liked the products and warranties. Getting the process started was just as easy as everything else had been up to that point with the company. Thomas explained very well the lag times we might experience while waiting for city rebate paperwork and install scheduling, so I was prepared for the time period between the beginning and the different parts of the process we were starting up. Once we got scheduled for an install, things went well. We did have a date move due to weather, but I had indicated we were very flexible with dates and changes and, of course, there was rain during the week and we got moved a day later. The guys who came out to do the install were professional and worked diligently for hours on our roof. The electricians came out on the same day and got their part of the system set up for inspection. We waited for the city to come out, inspect and we got the thumbs up! Next, we had to wait to get a meter install. That happens on the city's time, so we had another short wait. As soon as we got the meter, Longhorn came out to power it up. I want to say that for us the entire process took about a month - there are a few parts for it to happen, but the best part of it was that, other than the little bit of online business with Austin Energy that I had to do, Longhorn handled everything. It all went very smoothly. We've had the system for almost 2 months. On our first full billing cycle with Austin Energy, we already have a solar credit and the weather wasn't really cooperating during that time. So far, the system is functioning well. We've had great follow-up contact from our point man, Thomas. I'd certainly recommend Longhorn from the experience we've had with them.

Expert help on an existing system

Connor from Longhorn Solar helped me figure out my solar panel manufacturer and specifications though they neither installed it or asked any compensation from me to do so. I bought a new house with an existing solar array. They helped me figure out the brand and specs so that I could send those details to my energy company in order to start selling back the excess energy our house didn't use. No other company even responded to my requests since I was not trying to buy a new system. I will absolutely use them for any of my solar needs moving forward and also recommending them to friends and neighbors. This kind of integrity and good business is such a rarity anymore.

Are they still in business?

I have the same problem another customer posted about the SolarBridge micro inverters. SolarBridge sold out to Sun Power who turned around and sold that division to Enphase. I called Enphase to find out why it takes so long to get the microinverters under warranty, and they said it should take 2 months for replacements. I have had units out since March. Longhorn no longer answers emails or phone calls. They are not fulfilling their warranty obligations. My last contact with them they stated they were having trouble getting the parts. This was in May.

Great Responsive Company

System set-up went smoothly. However system failed within a month. Took a couple weeks for replacement of non-functioning parts. Once up and running, system is working, but so far have seen no difference in my electric bill. Verifying now if the fixing of the system took me offline with my electric company, they have no access to the energy I am producing.

Good solar install experience

We had been thinking of getting solar for a long time. Longhorn made it seamless with getting approval with our HOA, getting necessary permits, and installation. We are very happy with our experience and looking forward to getting credit on our electricity!!

Just OK

Our experience was overall fine. We got more information about available rebates than the other company we got a bid from, but the prices were comparable. We had a ground mount system installed and it seems to be working as expected. We did have to call them back for not filling in the trench properly. After a rain, we had a 200' ditch of almost a foot, where human or cattle could be injured. They came back out to fill it...filled half and wanted to be done. I had to point out the other half beyond the fence. They initially were going to install a "Sense" monitor, but said we did not have space on our box so put one on the array that we could not even read from the house. We got a new box and asked for the Sense. It took them weeks, poor communication, and then they installed and left without making sure it was functional. Basically the breakdown seems to be in the coordination/communication department. People would show up to work without notice. They would try to move up work dates without regard to other issues we were coordinating. There were just a number of annoyances that didn't have to exist if they had better management and communication. So while the work seems solid (time will tell), the overall experience was not great. I felt like once we wrote that last check, I could expect the bare minimum.

Fast and professional installation

Though I found a few companies with comparable prices, the reviews for great customer service won me over. Having had the system installed for about 2 months now, I agree that customer service is great. The installation was done in half a day and the crew did a great job blending in the wiring conduits with the color scheme of the house. Mike talked me through basis for their recommended system and advantages of their systems vs competitors. Some conduits I didn't even notice until a day or two later. I'd definitely recommend Longhorn Solar.

Micro-Inverter problem that I am stuck with

We had our solar panels installed by Longhorn Solar. They completed the job on Christmas Eve, 24 Dec 2013. I was very excited about getting the system installed and seeing what it could do. Four and a half years later: As of 16 Aug 2018, 30 out of the original 42 micro-inverters had been replaced. This is 30 out of the original 42 in 56 months or a failure rate of one micro-inverter about every two months. The latest problem: I reported a panel problem on 16 Apr 2019, and assuming it was a micro-inverter problem, Longhorn Solar ordered a new micro-inverter. The company that makes these things takes about two weeks to deliver. Sure enough, on 30 Apr 2019, Longhorn came out and installed the new converter. Longhorn Solar apparently can not keep a replacement micro-inverter in their warehouse. They did it in the past, but no more. I talked to a representative from Longhorn Solar today, and they admit that they know the micro-inverters that were installed with my solar system have a high failure rate. The company they get micro-inverter from admits that the micro-inverters have a high failure rate. I keep reporting failures and weeks later, I get another replacement. I can only figure that this will keep happening until my warranty runs out, then gradually each of the 42 micro-inverters will fail and the whole system on my roof will be so much garbage. Other issues: Longhorn Solar admits that they only check their service email account once a week. WTF? Longhorn Solar used to be able to look at my system via an Internet connection, but the monitoring software changed. Now, it is up to me to check it. I try to check up on it every couple of days, because if I don't discover the problems, no one ever will. The software to monitor the panels no longer has a way to see the history of a panel. I have to check the system during the day while the sun is out, because at night, I can no longer go back to check the history. Good luck on monitoring the system if you work for a living.

Great service

A Great Solar Sales and Installation

The sales team was knowledgeable about the product and answered all questions quickly. They watched over the paperwork and kept me information of the progress.The installation team had great communications, arrived on time, did the work quickly, and cleaned up the job site. The installation looks good and I am waiting for bright sunshine days to see how well the system works.

Great Company

Working with Longhorn and Michael Haas was a real pleasure. They never tried to put the "hard sell" on us, just presented the facts and options, answered all of our questions, and their proposals were right in line with the other proposals we received. We decided to go with the better quality LG panels and they did a great job with the installation. They even painted the conduit they installed to match the color of my eaves to minimize the visual impact on my house! I've only had the system up and running for a couple months and haven't hit the prime solar generation time of year yet, but it appears to be working well and always great to see my power meter running backwards!I highly recommend Michael and Longhorn Solar.

We originally contracted with Sunrun and they were extremely unresponsive in starting our process. We liked at other providers and decided on Sol Up USA primarily because of their customer reviews. Sol Up USA has meet and in some cases exceeded our expectations. An outstanding company with an excellent product and superb customer service. I'm so satisfied I will be using them again on my second home. 5 stars all the way!

Longhorn Solar Review

After consulting with 3 other solar companies we decided on Longhorn for our solar needs. All the companies were in the ballpark when it came to pricing & warranty. We just felt more comfortable with Longhorn. The rep (Clinton Rarey) was very informative with the product and addressed all our questions and concerns so we decided to target 100% offset for our production. Installation was a piece of cake for the crew that came out to the house to do the installation. It was completed in approx. 4 hours, very professional. The 1st full month (Nov. 2018) of production we had a ~ $44.00 credit for our energy bill. 2nd month we had a ~ $35.00 credit for a total of ~ $ 80.00 credit. 3rd month we broke even. So, we haven't had an electric bill for the first 3 months of production and still have the ~ $80.00 credit. Can't wait to see how the summer time plays out. So far, the system is working as designed with no flaws. I would highly recommend Longhorn for anyone looking to go solar.
