Overview of Longhorn Solar, Inc.
Longhorn Solar Mission: To make solar accessible to anyone who desires it by providing the best products at the best prices and installation by the most qualified TEAM that exists. We achieve this mission by: 1. Doing extensive research on the products that we provide to give you the peace of mind that you are only seeing products with a Tier 1 rating and have been vetted for bank-ability. Bank-ability is important because a warranty from a company that is out of business is worth nothing. 2. Using our buying power to get the best price for the best production. There are some panels out there that claim to be a better product because of higher efficiency. Higher efficiency does not equal better. It equals more expensive. In the end, higher efficiency means they produce more electricity in a smaller space for a higher price. To make solar more accessible we have chosen slightly lower efficiency for a lower price. 3. Employing the highest trained staff in Texas. Longhorn Solar invests in training at every level. Currently, we employ several team members who hold NABCEP Solar certification in Texas. We are also one of the only companies to provide a 12 week training class for all of our new Account Managers. When you speak to a Longhorn Solar Account Manager, then you can rest assured that we know what we are talking about. We would be honored with the opportunity to provide you with a Solar System quote and then installation.

I purchased my solar system from Longhorn Solar in April 2022. Unfortunately, my experience after the installation has been very disappointing. In August 2023, I needed a new roof and paid over $13,000 to have Longhorn Solar remove and reinstall my 37 solar panels. The panels were supposed to be cleaned before being reinstalled, but they were not. They were also reinstalled with the dirty side facing my front porch, which was very noticeable. On top of that, I had to wait approximately four weeks after my roof was completed before the panels were put back on. In May 2025, a connection issue caused my entire system to stop producing power. Because my system uses a single inverter, when one issue occurred, none of the panels worked. It took nearly two months to get the problem resolved, leaving me without solar production during that time. Now, in May 2026, the system has stopped working again. It has been almost three weeks, and I still do not have an appointment scheduled for repairs. It feels like customer service and system maintenance are not a priority once the sale is complete. I purchased 37 panels with the expectation that they would offset approximately 80% of my electric usage. That has never happened. Even when the system is operating, I consistently have electric bills between $180 and $200 per month.

They should hire me for project management because I did a lot of the coordination work (they should be doing this!) on the solar project at my home. Frustrating when no one at Longhorn calls back nor emails back (this happens frequently. I eventually get responses but it's because of my constant follow-ups), an appointment resulting in a no show from their tech person, an old part (trash) disposed on my property grounds, technical issue that took awhile to get resolved, etc. All the problems have been post sales installation and post sales service. The best part of the process was the sales. In fact, Longhorn Solar’s salesperson Ron Martin is outstanding. This recommendation is strictly in regards to Ron Martin who demonstrated solar knowledge expertise and excellent customer service … many times above and beyond. He’s friendly and returns calls. Sometimes when a salesperson completes their sale, one never hears back. But Ron has always been reliable in getting answers for me, even after the purchase was made. He has also visited my home to further explain the solar system and walk me through the apps. I recommend Ron Martin wholeheartedly.

Poor customer service
We got our 12kw system about 10 years ago. The first couple of years, they called me regularly to make sure everything was running well. A year ago, I noticed one of my inverters was showing zero amperage. I called to report it. About 2 months later someone finally called, saying they’d check it out and let me know. I never heard back. I’ve called 6-7 more times, and no one calls me back. I called again 5 days ago. A woman called 2 days later saying someone would call me in 48 hours. I’m still waiting! Unacceptable.

System down 6+ weeks
My system has been down for over 6 weeks. Whatever they tell you, they don't monitor your system for you. I left multiple messages on their service line, over a week, all were ignored. Finally got a hold of someone in person and scheduled a service date (no mention of the previous messages they failed to return). The first available service date they gave me was in three weeks. Three weeks! Three weeks longer to wait until someone can even come out and look at my system. I'm really disappointed in Longhorn solar for misleading me in terms of how they "monitor" my system as well as an utterly unresponsive service team.

Micro-Inverter problem that I am stuck with
We had our solar panels installed by Longhorn Solar. They completed the job on Christmas Eve, 24 Dec 2013. I was very excited about getting the system installed and seeing what it could do. Four and a half years later: As of 16 Aug 2018, 30 out of the original 42 micro-inverters had been replaced. This is 30 out of the original 42 in 56 months or a failure rate of one micro-inverter about every two months. The latest problem: I reported a panel problem on 16 Apr 2019, and assuming it was a micro-inverter problem, Longhorn Solar ordered a new micro-inverter. The company that makes these things takes about two weeks to deliver. Sure enough, on 30 Apr 2019, Longhorn came out and installed the new converter. Longhorn Solar apparently can not keep a replacement micro-inverter in their warehouse. They did it in the past, but no more. I talked to a representative from Longhorn Solar today, and they admit that they know the micro-inverters that were installed with my solar system have a high failure rate. The company they get micro-inverter from admits that the micro-inverters have a high failure rate. I keep reporting failures and weeks later, I get another replacement. I can only figure that this will keep happening until my warranty runs out, then gradually each of the 42 micro-inverters will fail and the whole system on my roof will be so much garbage. Other issues: Longhorn Solar admits that they only check their service email account once a week. WTF? Longhorn Solar used to be able to look at my system via an Internet connection, but the monitoring software changed. Now, it is up to me to check it. I try to check up on it every couple of days, because if I don't discover the problems, no one ever will. The software to monitor the panels no longer has a way to see the history of a panel. I have to check the system during the day while the sun is out, because at night, I can no longer go back to check the history. Good luck on monitoring the system if you work for a living.

Poor communications
The install and power on were frustrating. I was not being informed on what the next step was going to be. Installers came and installed the panels and then left with a check. I was amazed to find out that Longhorn Solar was unaware of who was at the site and that the electric was part was not installed. They came out the next day to install the power and then I had to wait for the power company to inspect it. Almost a month later I called for a status and they had to get back with me. It seems like the electric company was out the week before to inspect it and supposedly not informed them. Longhorn set up a day to come out and power it on and they never showed. I didn't receive a call. Still waiting to have solar. It is the hottest weeks of summer and I still don't have the solar that I paid for.
