Great Service - that slowly faded.

I began my purchase 08/2022 – my solar was operational today - 11/2022. 3 months! The salesperson / broker Mr. Kolei O’Reilly was excellent. Kolei was very professional and logically answered all my questions / concerns – without too much salesperson tap-dancing. The automated ‘no human interaction’ plan-review was professionally complete & painless. Installation was a pleasant experience – as the installers were professional & as anal as I about the quality of their work. On the other hand – I found ESP’s automated ‘text / email’ communications – far too redundant & often incomplete (“Hello, This is ESP, your solar installer, to remind you about your permit inspection that is scheduled for tomorrow be”.) There were too many automated communication failures – as no 1 PERSON accepted responsibility for my project – start to finish. What we have here is a failure to communicate – clearly. There are simply far too many people involved – and none of their job descriptions are longer than a short paragraph.

Response from Energy Service Partners (ESP)

Gary, we are glad to hear you had an overall pleasant experience, and we will absolutely look into the automation errors. We always strive to improve our processes and communication is a huge part of that, so we appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

It ended well but there were bumpy parts

We’re satisfied, so far, with ESPs work (less than 1 month since all was up and running). Our problem was with communication. For some still unexplained reason it took THREE tries for the crew to finish installation. Each time the crew would come out, do some work and leave without any explanation with the work unfinished. Also, each time, there was no communication from ESP as to what would happen next. We had to call (and in one instance the main office had no idea the job was incomplete 4 days later! They didn’t seem to be communicating with our coordinator, either). Each time it would take days and days, and phone calls from us, before another crew was scheduled to complete the work. After the work was finally done, there was confusion and hiccups about inspections, too, with some lack of communication, still. It all came out in the end but a lot of frustration and confusion could have been avoided with a bit more proactive communication.

Thanks CJ, we appreciate the constructive feedback and are always striving to improve our processes. We're glad you're satisfied with the end result!

Communication is Key

Initially it was not clear to us who to contact when there were questions as the relationship between the salesman who sold us the product, and the solar monitoring company, SunRun, and the company installing the panels and contracting out the roof replacement job, ESP, was confusing. An ESP administrator from was assigned to our account and she was available within a few hours of any message left for her. She was also proactive in reaching out when there were issues that arose or when the next step in the process of the replacement of the roof and installation of the solar panels occurred. The entire project - which the salesperson said would take about 30 days from start to finish - took over four months to complete, which meant by that time the coordinator had nearly become a friend and the relationship between both ESP and SunRun began to make sense. The long timeframe for completion was mostly due to several delays with the roofing company as a result of Covid as well as poor workmanship and language barrier miscommunications. Once the roofing comany owner recovered from Covid, he took over and resolved all issues expertly and quickly. Other delays had to do with timing of City required inspections and approvals. Lastly, once we were notified by the local utility company that we had been approved and the system had been activated, and ESP had performed their responsibilities for installation, we had to make several calls to SunRun, the company that manages the service going forward to find out the next step in the process. As of our last call to them, we still do not show as active in their monitoring system even though the panels are working and the latest utility bill shows solar generated as well as an amount charged to Pomona Solar. That has worked in our favor as we have yet to be billed by SunRun for our agreed payment amount. I guess we shouldn't complain about that, but one would think there would be better communication between ESP and SunRun. They are in business to make money, right?

Response from Energy Service Partners (ESP)

Thanks for the detailed review VJ. We are very sorry for any communication breakdowns because we always strive to impress, but we're immensely grateful for your kind words about our Project Coordinator's hard work and caring demeanor! Glad you made the choice to go solar and we will take your notes back to our team for further improvements.
