Major Property Damage, Poor Resolution
I would not recommend this company. During the solar installation, their crew caused significant damage to my home. The roof was damaged to the point that it now requires a full replacement, not a repair. Multiple independent assessments confirm the damage exceeds the threshold where replacement is required, and the original shingles are no longer manufactured, so matching is not possible. Other issues during the project: • A tool was dropped from the roof and shattered a glass table • Screws were driven through my siding from inside the garage • A gutter was bent from ladder placement • There were too many workers on the roof, including what appeared to be training another crew • Work was done in 100+ degree heat, despite concerns that this could damage the roof • The job took far longer than expected I also had a Wi-Fi issue with the system/computer setup. To their credit, they did come out and fix it, but the hardware they installed appeared to be older equipment, which was disappointing. To their credit, multiple people from the company acknowledged the issues and apologized. However, their proposed resolution was a settlement of just under $10,000, which does not come close to covering the $24,000–$25,000 cost to properly replace the roof. My insurance will not cover damage caused by a contractor, so this is something their company should be addressing through their own insurance. Instead, I’ve been passed between multiple people and delayed repeatedly without a fair resolution. At this point, I am pursuing legal options to ensure the damage is handled properly. If the company steps up, takes full responsibility, and resolves this appropriately, I will update this review. Mistakes can happen. Not making them right is the real issue.

Astonishingly UNprofessional
One of Smart Wave's crew members fell through our ceiling on 9/30/25, damaging property below that point in the ceiling. While I'm not inclined to lay it all out here, let's just say that since then, the response from SW has not been what we would expect. The crew was on site for about 6 hours following the incident, and - aside from immediately removing the large section(s) of drywall that fell (which amounts to tampering with evidence in my book), they made ZERO attempt to clean up the debris that fell on my Harley, a golf cart, exercise equipment, and other items. We told them that crew was not allowed to come back and since then, I would agree with someone else's remark: "Lip service and excuses". They were sure pushing us to let them keep working so they could make use of the large lift they had to rent to access our roof, though.

Nearly 6 months delay for Tesla Powerwall Install
I signed April 12, 2025 with Smart Wave Solar to install a Tesla Powerwall to my existing home solar system. Found out today, October 3, 2025, they are ready to install my system. Be careful of their contracts. You are committing to a 25% cancellation cost even if their process takes years before they install your system. Staff have been pleasant over the six months, but I feel no approval process for a simple add-on should take 6 months without a buyer’s right to cancel after a ridiculous delay period.

when they do a poor job they dont care
I can't say enough horrible things. Let's start with the most concerning error. Not adhering to national electric code, they neglected to put insulators on metal connectors. This prevents you from having a short in your system. Luckily the city inspector caught it.I was told if I went on their fast track program I would have the system installed within a month, and it would take one day to install a system of my size. Untrue. It took six visits. Five of which they needed inside access to the house. So I needed to be home. They tell you this the day before. I signed my contract and made my first payment on June 19th. I am writing this on September 23rd. As of right now things are still not up and running. Definitely more than one month.I have discussed the issues with customer service and my point person. Zero effort has been made to make this right. I'm still waiting on an estimate for battery install. The electrician told me about a new battery that was released the second quarter of this year. He was installing one the next day and told me the price. When I asked about it they said that was not correct. It's been about a month and I still don't have information on pricing. You will find similar reviews from the Broomfield Colorado area.

really unpleasant experience so far
1. Great sales person, Dan. Sold me on solar, and Smart Wave 02-2024 - that's basically the only good moment 2. About one year delay with the system installation. Finally, installed 03-2025. 3. Newly installed system stopped working in a couple of weeks after installation. 4. Do not know what to expect, not sure if I can trust them/their technical expertise at all 5. In addition, I paid all the invoices, and have not been compensated in any form for delays.

Terrible Experience- Cannot meet Production Estimates
RUN! We have had production issues since day 1 starting in 2022. We have never been able to produce the amount of solar energy predicted. We told the company this very quickly after install, and they have yet to resolve the issue. Customer service is not helpful. We have had a case to get compensation based on our contract production guarantee. They guarantee 85% of production estimates, or they will compensate you. In 2024, they reevaluated the expected production, and LOWERED the estimated production from the original estimate. And still, we have had well below that (closer to 70% of estimates). We have had this specific case open since November with absolutely no progress (5 months later). Keep in mind that we had several other production cases before this with their support team, none of which resolved the technical issues. Currently, we are in the process of contacting the state attorney general and Better Business Bureau. You have so many options, please use this company.

Disappointed and still waiting
We began our experience in June super excited to get the ball rolling. We are now in October with nothing to show for the money they have requested. Communication has been less than admirable. Maybe every two weeks. This has been by far the most unprofessional and inefficient experience we have had. Now going into bad weather days and have nothing to show for it.

Really Bad service
Product and idea seem great. But Smart Wave Solar has really bad service. I was just contacted from PacifCorp to see if I could get one of Smart Wave Solar's employees to call them on an application they sent in. Not only would they not give me a number in Customer Service, they are not allowed to call them. Everyone works from home and they have no management of their employees. It is terrible when the Power Company and City employees can not get help. I am concerned as a customer my service has been poor. Process was started the first of May and now middle of Novemeber, I caused a few weeks of delay with questions and travel. But do not let Smart Wave always blame Cities and Power Companies, it is Smart Wave not following through or very long in ordering services.

RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!!
When I first signed on with Smart Wave in late Jan, 2023 I was really excited for my project. My consultant Curtis did a great job of explaining exactly what the process would be and how their equipment was better. I actually canceled with a competitor to sign with them. Everything has been downhill since then. The fulfillment side seems to be run by people who are incompetent at best. The communication is awful and almost completely lacking save some generic automated emails. On two occasions when the showed up for install the plans were incorrect. Their installer even said he wouldn't sign off on it, if he were in my shoes. Next, they told me they resolved the errors with the plans. MUCH LATER, they then told me I needed a main panel upgrade to resolve the issues in the plans, which they had already told me were fixed. The main panel upgrade has been put off multiple times. In the meantime I'm paying close to $1000/month on the solar loan due to how it's structured. I've missed an entire summer of production and my system is still not operational. They’ve messed up site surveys several times. I’ve been sent to multiple different people in leadership who haven’t resolved my concerns or followed up with me. The leadership who spoke with me have ignored my messages since we spoke one time. I’m going on 9 months without being operational. At this point there’s very little they could do to gain my confidence back. I just want my system operational and to be done with this company. PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE!
Response from Smart Wave Solar
I'm sorry your experience has been so different from most of our customers. Every project has its twists and turns but we always make things right. We completely understand your frustrations and you have not been ignored. However, we did upgrade your main service panel at no charge and have sent you a check as compensation for the lost production resulting from the extended time to complete your project. We are committed to completing this project to our highest standards and supporting you for years and years to come.
Response from Smart Wave Solar
Dear Julia, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, and we sincerely apologize for the challenges you experienced during your solar project. We appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns and provide further clarification on the steps we took to address the issues. We want to highlight the extensive efforts we made to ensure your satisfaction: 1. Main Panel Upgrade: We covered the expense of a $3500 main panel upgrade when your jurisdiction determined it was necessary. 2. Goodwill Check: To address concerns about project duration, we issued a goodwill check for $222.73, covering the projected highest summer months' solar production. 3. Subpanel Upgrade and Relocation: At no cost to you, we conducted a $5000 subpanel upgrade when your jurisdiction determined it was necessary. 4. Arborist Expense: We covered the $725 cost for an arborist to trim trees when your power company determined it was necessary. 5. Executive Director Contact: We facilitated direct communication with an executive director to manage your concerns effectively. 6. Project Timeline Report: A detailed report outlining the reasons for project delays, along with our efforts to expedite the process, was provided. We acknowledge the critical error made in matching the electrical panel early on in your project, leading to delays. Taking full responsibility, we promptly corrected the plans and compensated for any resulting delays. It's important to note that, outside of the error in matching the electrical panel, none of the other delays were attributed to our actions. Despite unforeseen challenges, we remain committed to delivering a fully operational solar system. We understand your frustration with the abnormal number of delays, and we appreciate your patience. Our team has worked tirelessly to address each issue and prioritize your project. If you have any further concerns or require additional assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us directly. We value your feedback and are committed to continually improving our services. Thank you for choosing us for your solar project and we look forward to serving you for years to come. Sincerely, N.S., Director of Continuous Improvement

Unorganized Inexperienced Unprofessional
The sales guy, Dan, is top notch and knowledgeable. The products Smart Wave Solar offers and the cost they offer them at are decent. Unfortunately, after signing contracts it’s been an unpleasant experience. It would be no different going with a different company that subcontracts the installation. It may actually be better, so don’t let that be a selling point for a Smart Wave Solar project. The business in Colorado is lacking leadership, schedule organization, and field experience. Crews do not seem to have the support needed or items needed to complete jobs quickly, efficiently, or correctly. There is a huge lack of field experience due to high turnover. The communication along with scheduling is less than adequate. Our project has been delayed because of field personnel calling out, we have been rescheduled with same day notice. Our installation is currently waiting on a wire nut to be installed because the conductor cable brought to sight was not long enough. Not sure if we want a large conductor held together by a wire nut creating more resistance and power lose! Why do they think this is ok? The goal of solar is to make energy, not lose it with inconvenience or lack of preparedness. There are plenty of electrical suppliers that have what is needed in stock, go pick some up. It seems like Smart Wave Solar is taking on too many projects and is not prioritizing completing projects and getting their customers through Permission To Operate (PTO).

Buyer Beware!
The installation of the solar system was good, but support afterwards has been horrible. They prioritize new installations and do not care about existing customers. I have been without a functioning system for a month and can not get a technician to my house. They keep rescheduling to prioritize new installs. They have even stopped informing me when the appointments are rescheduled. In the meantime, I have a system that does not work.

Promise Anything for a Sale
They promised that this system would meet ALL of our power needs, We spent several hours with their salesman Steven as he assured us that it would cover our needs plus the additional power of a sprinkler pump we were installing. Needless to say the system didn’t perform as promised. As I talked to the owners, Gary and Justin I found that they won’t do anything to correct the problem. Their contract is very vague so there is nothing to fall back on. I later learned that their own system evaluation shows that the system won’t be able to meet my previous power needs let alone with my new pump. They didn’t bother showing me this until after the system was installed. I had another (competent) company evaluate my system and was told that there is no way my system can do what was promised. Beware, these folks only care about making the sale and will say nearly anything to get the sale.
Response from Smart Wave Solar
Steven, I am sorry to hear about your frustrations. We have an extremely high standard to exceed out customers' expectations and will always continue to work accordingly. We take great care from sales to design to project management to installation to make sure it is clear how the system you purchased will function. At last report, the system is producing in the expected range for the first year but if that changes we will be sure to act quickly. Further, our investigation into your production since the time of installation revealed that your energy consumption has more than doubled since your project started. That dramatic increase in consumption will require additions to your system. We consider all of our customers long term partners and we will continue to monitor, service, and warranty your system for years to come.
