Beware Bait and Switch

My wife and I met with Purelight Power representatives at the Evergreen State fairgrounds Home Show on 18 October 2025. I am interested in solar power but cautious about costs. The two Purelight representatives there assured us there are zero upfront costs. They stated that Purelight's process is to take our current power bill from Snohomish County PUD and setup a payment plan for a solar install where the monthly payments to Purelight match our current spending. They claim the average time for a payoff is about 6 years. This sounded good so we scheduled for a consultant to come out to evaluate our roof structure for an install and prepare a proposal. On 24 October we were visited by their consultant Todd Smith. After an unnecessarily windy sales pitch, he stated that we can expect the monthly payments to Purelight to be substantially higher than we pay to the PUD. I told him what we were told at the Home Show, and he stated that is not even close to true. I then said we are done. He attempted to stay and keep talking, so I escorted him to the door. This was a simple bait and switch tactic.

subpar experience

Got our roof replaced and added solar to my aged house. The new roof was in my opinion, installed incorrectly due to the fact that one side of my house now has a drainage issue over one of the corners of my roof. Going back and forth with the customer service rep, it was concluded that "confirmed that the roof’s pitch and angle meet proper specifications.". My roof is still leaking and I'm now exploring new 3rd party options. The solar system was not working properly for the first year of install, until I complained and got some tech out to my house. Turns out all the main output wires from my cells we're flat out not connected.... The solar system is working fine now, but we missed out on 1 years worth of solar. Overall, I'd look elsewhere for solar if I were to do it again.

Iffy at best

Left a big trench in our back yard, also cut into our tiling pipe and left it all that way. Now that my friend tried using them they came to hook her up and half of the power in her house isn’t working now and no one from this company will respond to her phone calls, text or emails.

Can’t get anybody to respond

We’ve tried calling, texting the last numbers we have, emailing … our phone apps have t worked for almost two years. The app is the only way to know what’s going up there. Right after installation when the app was working, we had a couple panels go bad. With no working app, who knows what’s going on with $58k worth of solar panels. I’ve tried self help on line, but still no success. But nobody at the office will respond to us. Would not recommend them any more. Have read really bad stuff about them lately. :(

Quote was incredibly far off

I got quoted that 10 panels would cover my electric bill and give me a surplus in the summer to totally eliminate it for the year. Turns out it wasn’t even close and I needed twice as many panels. I had already gotten the 10 they recommended installed so if I wanted the 10 more I’d have to take out another loan at a significantly higher interest rate. Just seemed kinda off and wouldn’t recommend doing business with them. They were very nice and customer support was great up until this all happened.

Highly recommend Purelight Power

From the sales rep. to the final orientation they were very professional and did what they said they would do. As with any company or any job there is always going to be a few hiccups. With Purelight it did not matter. They just handled it and made me feel comfortable about what was happening the entire time. I would use them again in a heartbeat. Highly recommend.

basically a scam

System itself is fine. Install was fine. Sales was a big ripoff. Shame on me for not doing a little research. Was told by salesman there would be a rebate check for xxxx dollars. That ain't gonna happen. All you get is a tax credit. If you don't pay taxes then you get nothing. Just a plain out and out lie from sales. The person that referred me was supposed to get a finders fee. He never got it. I also sent them a customer and was promised a finders fee. Just another big rip off. This whole solar thing is turning out be a big scam just like the windows scam. Will never (ever) recommend this company to anyone else. Just big lies.
