We decided to put solar on our roof and hired Premier Solar NW. we had to put the project on hold for a few months because my brother who lives with us had a TBI and was extremely sensitive to noise. After a few months they came out and installed the system. The employees pick up all materials after the project was completed. It was spotless when they finished! Everyone was polite and friendly.

Abundant Solar is a first-class installer. From start to finish, everyone was highly professional, knowledgeable and friendly. They started the work 5 days ahead of schedule (after calling ahead to confirm that would be ok) and the work was completed in the time they said they would.

Ole Ersson for Kailash Ecovillag, over 1 month
Sunbridge has done 3 solar PV projects for Kailash Ecovillage, a thirty-two unit apartment complex in SE Portland. We have been delighted with all their work. Initially we did two 9-kW projects in 2013 for our common spaces and a two bedroom unit. We were so impressed we followed this up with a 7 kW project for another 2-bedroom unit in 2014. Finally, as we move to net zero, we have added an additional 32 kW project that brings us to 50% of our power consumption for the entire building. We are now consulting with them to complete the remaining 50% of our power needs. Combined with PGE's net metering capabilities, it seems everyone in the Portland area is now able to move towards producing all the power we consume. Thanks, Sunbridge, and PGE, for multiple jobs well done! They are highly recommended for their professionalism, solar expertise, and a great, consumer oriented, work ethic! We are so fortunate to have them serving Oregon's solar industry.

The solar panels increased the value of my home. The panels have decreased my energy bill to zero for seven months of each year. The installers were competent and friendly. I would recommend Elemental Energy to all my friends and family. My wife loves to read about the number of trees we saved each month with our solar power. GO SOLAR with Elemental Energy

We knew we wanted to go solar, so after interviewing several companies and getting estimates, National Solar was our choice. We couldn't be happier. The customer service was excellent, and the cost of better than competitive. The installation was a breeze (glad I didn't have to get on the roof) and the inspections were uneventful. I would recommend National Solar in a heartbeat. There was nothing negative about the whole process, well, except for the piece of corner plastic I found on the patio after the rain. Thank you Ryan and all your great people.

We needed a full solar installation at the end of 2019 and we were on a schedule - due to our personal financial situation: we were hoping to use the generous solar tax credit on our income taxes, but couldn't do it unless a complete installation was up and running before the end of 2019. We live in Talent, a small town halfway between Medford and Ashland in southern Oregon, and in the fall of 2019, we talked with and interviewed all the 'usual suspects' - three or four generally excellent solar contractors in the area. All of whom seemed friendly and knowledgeable - but all of whom were over-committed and over-booked and literally unavailable for new projects before 2020. Then we met and interview Kirpal Khalsa and his small company, Oregon Solarworks. Kirpal was thoughtful, incredibly knowledge, open and literally trust-inspiring. Although his company is based in Grants Pass, in the neighboring county, he works frequently and does installations in Jackson County, where we are located. Even better, we were lucky that his schedule was opening up - and he would be able to fit our job in with enough time to complete the installation, to get all the required permits and approvals, AND to have us up and running before the end of 2019. All in all, it was a large project - and not an inexpensive one, either. Kirpaul's pricing and quotes were right at the same level as those of all the other experienced and professional solar contractors in our area. But when you are about to invest a chunk of your savings into a project, it's helpful to have confidence in the ability of the contractor to whom you are entrusting the job - and Kirpaul not only inspires (and inspired) our confidence - but once we began the project, he was thorough, thoughtful and consummately professional. He gave us a realistic schedule and finished the entire job slightly ahead of schedule - but, better yet, he took a great deal of time to explain to my wife and myself every detail of what for us was a new process - a Solar Installation. I can't truly say enough about his skill, thoughtfulness and professionalism. I'm writing this review nearly half a year after the installation, and thanks to our new Solar system, we have literally been 'saving' an average of around $100 a month - whether for winter heating or the necessary use of our heat-pump-based air conditioning which might seem like a luxury to some, but in weeks and weeks of 100 degree summer weather, has been a lifesaver. In our previous, pre-Oregon-Solarworks installation life, we would have been shelling out significant amounts on our monthly electricity bill - but now, it has virtually disappeared. I would and will unhesitatingly recommend Kirpal - and Oregon Solarworks - to anyone in the greater southern Oregon area who is considering or in need of an excellent solar contractor. He really knows his stuff - and having an installation done by someone who is thoughtful as well as skilled and professional, was a bonus.

I chose Greenlight Solar & Roofing from the 4 bids I received for several reasons. 1) The presentation of the plan was clear, even to me without a background in solar. 2) The plan was comprehensive to capture as much solar power as possible. 3) Everyone was easy to work with and communicated well. I am extremely pleased with Greenlight as they made the whole process easy. They communicated with me by email and phone every step of the way. They followed up to make sure I received all the information and walked me through downloading the app and how to use it. I couldn’t be more pleased with the process, the results, and my tiny electrical bill. I especially appreciated the installers. Many solar systems look like a geometric puzzle on the roof with galvanized tubing connecting it all. No galvanized tubing is visible on my roof, anywhere. The plain black panels with the black frames are beautiful and don’t distract from the aesthetics of the home. The installers went the extra mile to honor my requests.

They did all of the paperwork from design, permit application, loan application and the installation. My questions were promptly answered. They kept me informed of what was being done and when it would be completed. Give Blue Sky a call if you are interested a quality solar system.

Gen-Con installed a 5kW PV system on my roof in SW Portland in 2017/2018. Brent and his partners were great to work with from start to finish. He's extremely experienced, having started in the solar business in 1981, so there really is nothing a roof or house could throw at Brent that he couldn't handle, I think.

I got multiple bids including the most highly reviewed/mentioned Portland firms, and his was not the flashiest proposal or largest possible system, but it was straightforward and took the most efficient approach with respect to the tax incentives. And he didn't want to take chances with the final inspection by cramming too many panels on my roof. Another company sized a 7.3kW system and he felt it may not pass code.

I also needed a service upgrade from 100 amps to 200 amps coming into the house, and Brent was happy to build that into the project. The sub he used for that was absolutely great and also added a 240V plug in the garage for my EV with no complaints or haggling. In comparison, one of the other companies I talked to really didn't feel like doing the service upgrade, even though I was happy to pay for it. Brent just wanted to do what was needed to give me a great system.

He was fast too...from my first contact with him to switching the system on was two months and a couple days. With respect to payment, he takes a very small payment with the signing of the contract and then doesn't even say a word about getting the rest until everything is complete and all inspections are done.

I highly recommend Brent and Gen-Con for your solar PV and thermal needs.

The reviews scores for the largest solar companies are far worse than those for local, family-owned solar installation companies.
The best solar companies meet the following criteria:
The solar industry is full of fly-by-night solar companies — both big and small — that open one year and are gone the next.
Solar panels last for 25-30 years, so you want an installer who will help you with any problems or system faults. For this to happen, your installer needs to be able to stay in business
Local solar companies, as a group, have the highest reviews score on our site and also have lower overheads than corporate installers, making them more likely to survive in the long term.
