New Install

After converting from a community propane system to an energy star heat-pump and all-electric appliances, we experienced a significant drop in energy cost. The next step was obvious. Our 5.5 KWh solar system was installed in two days, and about a week later the power company changed our meter to 2-way so we could feed our excess production back into the grid for credit. We can monitor energy production via a PC, and this also allows Longhorn Solar to make sure that the system is working properly. We have every confidence that the installed system will more than pay for itself, as the money we save on electricity bills will be more than the cost of servicing the loan. Also, the value of the house went up more than the cost of the system, so in the end we'll recover the total cost of the system, while still enjoying the monthly savings. Longhorn has been fair, proactive, and prompt, using high-quality German solar panels. Their IT person came to our home and set up the WiFi and PC.

Scheduling glitches, but good end result

My experience was similar to the one described in sleepy guy's review. Rex did a good job of advising me on a system for my house, and he was very responsive to my questions. After getting an HOA approval letter and forwarding it to Longhorn Solar, I got a call from Adam to schedule an installation date. That morning came, but nobody showed up. I called Adam, and he said that I wasn't on his schedule for that day. So we scheduled it for a couple of days later, but once again, nobody showed up. The installation happened the following week while I was away at work. I thought I needed to be home for the installation because a network cable had to be run into my house for the monitoring service. It turned out the network cable is a last step after the system is running. I wish I had known this. Instead, I worried unnecessarily about trying to be home for the installation of the panels. In any case, I feel like they should have called if the installation wasn't going to happen as scheduled. I'm happy with the end result. The panels look nice, the system is working well, and the monitoring feature is really cool!

Excellent, but then Poor

I recently had a PV system installed by Longhorn Solar. From the beginning, Rex and Paul did an excellent job of advising me of my options and working with the engineers to design the best system for my needs. At that point my experience with Longhorn was simply outstanding, so I chose them over two other companies and signed a contract. After that, there was a long delay while the electric utility and HOA approved the design, etc. That was expected, but even so, it would have been great if somebody at Longhorn would have touched base with me at least once every couple weeks to let me know what was happening on my project. After about a month I inquired, and finally met my project manager. Not long afterward, there was some progress on my project. Eventually the project manager and I set up a time for installation, and I arranged to take that day off of work. The day arrived, but the installers did not. After three hours I contacted the project manager. I learned that the installers were running so late that they would need to reschedule for another day. I wasn't happy about wasting half of a day off, but we rescheduled for the following week. That day also came, and essentially the same thing happened. This time I called after only hour to confirm that people were still coming. I learned that the installers were running behind because of recent rains, so I would have to reschedule again. The installers actually showed up at my house by surprise one day and performed the installation. Later I learned that there had been some supply issue with my panels, and that I had therefore received an upgrade for free. That was great, but I should have been informed before the installation. Finally, Longhorn neglected to set up the monitoring of my system until I reminded them a couple weeks after it was switched on. In the end, I am happy to have an excellent system, but my experience with Longhorn Solar was incredibly mixed. The pre-contract people were extremely professional and responsible. The post-contract people never showed up when they were supposed to, and communication was either missing or misleading. I have no post-contract experience with any other companies, so I don't know if this is unusual. Based on other reviews, it is possible that I was just unlucky, and I drew an inexperienced or overworked project manager.

Met All Expectations

Longhorn Solar just completed the installing my 8.5Kw Photovoltaic (PV) array (solar array)earlier this week and I couldn't be happier. My house is a 2-story house with a steep roof, but this didn't seem to slow the teams down at all. The salesman, Rex, was very informative, patient and got all the answers I had prior to installing my PV array. The office manager, Kelli, was very helpful at getting all the paperwork filled out that I needed to get my loan and was always helpful when I had any questions. Aaron and his install team arrived early, but not too early, worked all day until they couldn't work anymore. I was very pleased with their work ethics and they were always happy to answer any questions I had during the install. They painted all the conduit to blend with the color scheme of the house (3 different paints required). Aaron gave me some very in-depth training on the system operation. Adam, the IT guy, came the next day to setup the monitoring system. He fixed any errors I found on the spot and didn't leave until I was completely happy. Last, but not least, David, the General Manager, attended my closing and was very helpful in answering other questions we had. Lastly, they were more than happy to install an extra sub-panel I needed to hookup my hot tub. I would definitely recommend Longhorn Solar to anyone wanting to install a solar panel system. I just love to go outside and watch my digital electric meter numbers go backwards :)

Awesome work!

Louis and his team came out and installed a 5.5mW system on the roof of my 2-story house. Louis and his crew were very flexible in working with me on where I wanted the inverter installed, did a very professional job of painting and blending the conduit on the outside of the house, worked well with my HOA, and did a high-quality job overall. I plan to install more of the systems on my rental houses and I'll definitely use Longhorn Solar again to do the work.

Solar Installation

Just to let everyone know that Tom and his Crew were just wonderful installing our 15kw system. It was done in a very short time and very efficiently.. The system is running beautifully. Thank you Adam for answering all my calls. Thank you Rex for explaining the System to us in layman's terms - your knowledge and professionalism are much appreciated. We recommend Longhorn Solar to anyone thinking of installing solar power at their home.

Longhorn Solar was a good company to deal with. I had a few issues but they were quickly resolved. I would recommend the Ben-Q product as an excellent product. Longhorn is competitive in their pricing and will do what it takes to get your new solar panel system up and running. Great install.

Happy, Happy, Happy with Longhorn Solar

Every step of the process was professional and honest. They assisted me in getting a good part of my system paid for by municipality incentives. They provided me with the form to get my tax incentive. After I had my system for many months and a part stopped working, they came out immediately and replaced it; and they didn't charge me for the part or labor. One of my favorite things, is that they gave me a customized book as part of the quote. The book showed me the system they recommended, what it would look like and how much energy it would generate. It shows you year-by-year, how much money you will save, and when the system will pay for itself. Mine said that after 7.5 years, it would have paid for itself, and after that it is pure savings. I have had the system for over 2 years and my savings are right on track for what they projected. I am extremely pleased with Longhorn Solar and would recommend them to anyone. I recommended them to a neighbor who also got a system and she is just as happy as I am.

Why get solar? Why use Longhorn Solar? Longhorn presented me with a solar plan that was customized for my power useage ranging over an entire year, including all the seasons. Free, fully documented and illustrated presentation. All free and no obligation to buy. It was educational, interesting and fascinating. Every one of my questions were not just answered, but explained in detail. I don't know what other companies do because with Longhorn I was so well engaged and the information was so easily understood there was no need. All the benefits, rebates and tax credits are the same with any company. But will you walk away with an understanding of the process and benefits that Longhorn gives you? Every call and every email was answered. Heads up about this or that were common occurances. How can I tell you how good they are? I don't think I can. You have to see it for yourself. Use them.

Interviewed and received bids from 3 solar companies and found Longhorn Solar was able to address and answer any questions. They were the only company able to actually come and measure roof to calculate the number of panels they could install on the roof before giving an estimate.I especially was inmpressed with their projection estimates on when the return on investment would occur as well as future cost to expect in year 15 for an inverter possibility. Not all companies interviewed informed me of all cost involved.

Longhorn Solar: The only choice!

My neighbor and I did extensive research on the Solar industry, interviewing 5 different companies before selecting Longhorn. We both selected Longhorn as they are far above the competition with regards to the quality of product used, competency of the staff, experience in the industry, honesty and price. I received a 10kw system with a complete electrical rebuild for several thousand dollars below the closest competitor’s price for a 9kw system without the electrical upgrade. Being on the ACC committee for my neighborhood, I have seen the bids for other companies; Longhorn’s proposals far exceed their competition. The Sales Staff, installation crew, and management are fantastic. I would highly recommend Longhorn Solar.

Looking Good

Everything went well. . Installation, setup and turn-on. Worksite was kept in good order and there was no indication that the installation was in process except for the panels being installed on the roof. Good job.

Took the leap!

Dylan and Jason at Longhorn solar were great. Couldn't ask for better assistance and service from these guys! Explained everything very well. They were patient and always willing to go the extra mile to address any questions or concerns I had.

Very organized and responsive

Dylan my salesperson was very responsive to any question I had and always in a timely manner. During the actual instalation Jason and Pablo were very organized and efficent, making the experience very good. Would highly recommend all the of the people I came across from Longhorn solar. Everything was as promised no surprises would recomend them to anyone intrested in solar energy.

Longhorn Solar: Outstanding Company and Excellent Service

I was looking for a solar system for my home and contacted various companies. All the companies were helpful but Longhorn Solar went over and beyond in their service and sales. Shane Wampler, the account manager, contacted me and gave me an idea of what to expect before we started the process. One of the installers came home, inspected my property and roof. Next, Shane called me and gave me a date of when he would have the quotes (around 2 days) and he met those dates without any delays. He came to my home and answered all my questions in person and those that he could not, he took the trouble of contacting his folks to get me that information. He patiently answered all our questions. We finally decided on a 5kW system with AU Optronics (BenQ) 250W poly panels (20) and 1 SMA Sunny Boy inverter (SB5000TL-US-22). Within a few days, I got a call from Adam (the installation manager), confirming the time and date of the installation. The installers came early and it took them a couple of days to get done (the first was to install the wiring and inverter) and the second was to complete the solar panels. The installation was extremely professional and the folks were very helpful and answered any questions that we had about the panels and inverter. When everything was installed, Blake come over and set up the eGauge system. He explained everything succinctly and ensured everything was working. After the installation, I got a call from Shane ensuring everything went well. The system was went live on Aug 14, 2014. We have been extremely happy with it. Recently, when I changed my ISP, I lost my egauge online connection. One call to Shane and it was taken care of. As I said, outstanding company and excellent sales and service. I recommend Longhorn Solar wholeheartedly. I will posting similar glowing reviews on other sites.

Outstanding Experience with Longhorn Solar

My wife and I met with Preston Wilson for the initial site review and he gave us very level-headed advice on the pros and cons on the different panels and orientations of what solar option to choose based on our home. After contemplating about it with my wife we decided on having Longhorn Solar install the newest, most-efficient panels, made here in the US. We couldn’t be happier about our decision and we are very proud of it. From the initial consultation, through the proposal, installation, permits, inspection and process with the City of Austin, it was a great experience. Great product, great service

We had our solar panels installed this past spring and we are so glad we decided to do this for our home! We are already seeing substantial savings on our electric bill. Preston Wilson was great to work with, he explained everything in detail so we could understand exactly what we were getting and what we could expect.
