ION Solar - a Great Company to work with.
The ION team have been great to work with. Their knowledge of solar is great and they provided me with answers to all my questions. It was interesting that their install team had the same help-the-customer attitude as the sales person and I have received updates throughout the entire process. This has been a great experience.

Great Experience!
We chose Ion because their people were the most professional of the companies that were prowling our neighborhood at that time. We are glad we did. The experience was good, the process clearly explained, and the install efficient. The system is up and running, and we are very pleased. Would recommend!

Very Communicative
A great company that was easy to work with and punctual on most things throughout the process. Their app is very helpful for keeping track of progress throughout installation and to keep track of energy generated once your panels are in use.

ION has been nothing but exceptional! They’ve done great work and have been so helpful! The salesman himself and his wife have become friends of ours and often check in on the progress and system itself and also our every day needs and mental health. I’m so thankful ION came into our life! I am so excited to see our solar panels in action and the savings!!

Should Have Done My Homework
Unhappy Customer in Salt Lake City! We should have read the reviews on ION SOLAR BEFORE SIGNING THE CONTRACT. NOT HAPPY WITH THE OUTCOME OF THE PROJECT. Well, I have addressed my concerns with a team member, first name is Eric. He promised me that my issues would have been taken care of. They still have not been addressed. Here are my concerns. 1. We were never advised by any member of your company that the boxes on the outside of our house, would be an eye sore. 2. We were told by our salesperson that we would be getting a new breaker box, never advised that change. We were doing electrical work and decide to put off increasing the size of the box. 3. We were never advised that we would need to rip out our planter boxes to accommodate the boxes for the solar panels. The conduit was installed incorrectly per the conversation with your original electrician. So, you had to come back and fix the conduit 4.We were also promised by Tad your sales manager you would be compensating us for the labor to remove the planter boxes. I originally told Tad to give the money to your team. When I had discussed this with the original team members, they never heard about the money. So, with that I ask for our compensation of $500.00 to rip them out. There was no compensation for replacing the boxes. He also said that we would have all the conduit would be painted the same color of our bricks so that they were not an eyesore. 5. The plans that were submitted to the City of Salt Lake planning department showed the electrical was supposed to run over the top of the house. Instead your electrician ran them in the middle of our patio, which was shown on the plans 6. Your team was not properly prepared to install the panels; they did not have the right cad drawing. They forgot to install two of the panels, they had them with them. You had to come back to the house and install them a few days later. If they had the revised cad drawings, they would not have to come back. We were also advised that the electrical work that was done by the original electrician, would not have passed by the City Inspector. 7. We decide to have the roof reinforced for the solar panels; we were working with a company that you have worked with prior. So, we wanted to coordinate with them and you to ensure that everything would fall into place. Well that did not happen, you had a staff member that would not return calls. When we would return his call, we were not able to connect with him, the number that he was using would not allow incoming calls. They also sent a few emails to him and he would not respond, we were told by our salesperson that our roofers were not responding to him. So finally, I was able to connect the two companies, everything fell apart, due to the lack of communication on your part. 8. We installed a PVC roof so it was imperative that the brackets that were being installed would have flashing around the brackets. However, with your company not responding to the ca

Going with ION Solar is a no brainer
Professional, honest, and straight-forward sales - Mel Shingleton is the man! Smooth, efficient, and transparent project management. Excellent, courteous, and super fast installation team. I'm talking half a day installation from start to finish. Excellent communication throughout the process, from signing the contract to powering up my system, ION Solar keeps the customer informed of the progress, where we are in the process, what to expect next and when. Ion Solar was incredible from initial contact to activation.
The Ion Solar Energy Consultant, Dillon, was extremely professional and courteous. I had spoken to other companies about solar and they always came across as a sales pitch and talked negatively of the competition. The installation crew and office staff were also fantastic through every step of the process. I highly recommend Ion Solar to anyone considering solar panels.

So far, so good
My sales rep, Greg, was energetic and ready to get the ball rolling. The installation crew members were respectful and willing to explain the steps in the installation process. Other than the Envoy not working upon installation and having to wait on the technician to come out and replace it, I was satisfied with ION. The system has been up and running for a few days, and so far, all is working as promised.

Not good company to deal with.
I have solar panels installed in June 2020, they calculated 10 panels to cover my 80 to 90% electricity monthly but the fact is their panel only produced 15 to 20% of electricity we used monthly. Keep calling w/o success. I sent letters to BBB, then got call, then the manager from headquoter of ion Solar called me and insist everything is working, but can not give my reasons why we did not get what they promised. Now I have to pay Domonion power similar money as we paid before but also have to pay ion solar monthly payment. My advise is do home work and find better solar companies and avoid to be cheated.

Great But Slow
I chose ION because they came to my house and told me that I could get solar panels without any initial investment. I signed a contract the middle of March (just before the pandemic necessitated a stay-at-home order) and they turned it on the last full week of September. I love that I can see my energy production and other details about the performance of my panel array.

Terrible
This is long.. **DO NOT CHOSE ION SOLAR AS YOUR SOLAR COMPANY** I want to start by saying the people we dealt with were "nice" people. Everyone we talked to spoke with a smile on their face, but their customer service is TERRIBLE! We started with ION in mid February. They were fast and efficient until there was a problem, then they had had below poor communication skills and lack of interest for my project. If I had not been diligent in reaching out to them sometimes MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY, we STILL would not have a completed project 7 months later. I was told many times "someone would call me by this time" and I ended up calling the next day saying no one called. During installation of our panels, one of the installers stepped a hole through our ceiling from the attic in our new, not even 3 month old, house . He was very apologetic and they assured me they would get it taken care of. I get it, these things happen. It sucks, but I was nice and understanding. When contacting ION about getting it fixed, I explained I want a PROFESSIONAL to fix it since my house is so new. They sent three different young guys who normally work IN OFFICE to fix it. Nice guys, but they did an absolute terrible job, and I could have done it better myself. I called to complain and tell them they need to send an actual professional out to fix it and it took them a long time to even get anyone in contact with me. After the ceiling was taken care of, NO one reached out to me about what was next. After having me sign a document, they ghosted me again. After I reached out TWICE to find out what was next they scheduled a city inspection for TWO WEEKS OUT. The day before the scheduled inspection, they cancelled and rescheduled for ANOTHER WEEK OUT. Then they didn't even bother to show the scheduled day. ION says someone over 18 has to be home or they have to have permission to be in our backyard. I have a full time job, and I have a dog that has access to the backyard, so I can't keep the dog locked in all day and I can't sit around waiting all day for someone to show up. I reached out AGAIN about how no one came. Then on a random day at a random time someone came to my house, WENT IN MY BACKYARD WITH MY DOG, and did the inspection without my knowledge. After inspection. I was the one who had to reach out to ION about getting our panels running. There are so many more details about how awfully they took care of my project. They told us at the beginning (February) that this was the perfect time to get solar to collect a lot of energy over the summer, and that everything was faster with their company because they don't have to contract stuff out, but here we are a week before October, JUST NOW completing the project. I don't care if their referral company pays you $200 each time you refer someone and they get solar. I won't even be referring my enemies.

Hated the sales process; seems to be high quality
This company seems to have high quality materials and workmanship, but I absolutely hated the sales process. We are located in Cary, NC and a man came to our door on Friday afternoon and set up the appointment for Saturday. My husband was told it would be a 30-minute consultation. It ended up taking 3 1/2 hours. The salesman wasted lots of time asking us personal questions and chit chatting. Then, he finally described the system and sketched our costs and potential savings on a legal pad. He had no visible identification that we was actually an employee of Ion Solar, no brochures, no pictures to show us, just personal questions and chit chat. We had to ask lots of questions to get him to tell us the details of solar, how it works, what happens when we need to replace the roof, etc. He signed us up for the loan application, asking my husband questions about his income, social security number, etc. before sending us the proposal detailing what we would be getting. We were very interested in getting solar and that's why I eventually agreed to it, but I feel like we went through a high-pressure timeshare-like sales presentation and I can't shake the feeling that we are getting ripped off. I think we could definitely get a lower price with another company, and the only reason I'm inclined to stay with Ion Solar is because the solar panels seem to be high quality and the deal is already made. The terrible high-pressure sales experience has definitely dampened my enthusiasm for going solar.

Why didn't we do this sooner?
We avoided solar salesmen for years because we didn't want to get pushed into something we'd regret. No regrets with ION Solar! They answered all of our (many) questions and walked us through what to expect at every step of installation, permitting, and activation. The ION service people were always on-time to scheduled appointments (no 'between the hours of 8am and 2pm' garbage) and very polite. They even vacuumed the inside of the house after getting in the attic and making a little mess with the insulation. I'm very pleased with how we are making energy now and I love watching our production on the ION App on my phone.

Not great
We are happy to have solar, but we didn't have a great experience. The sales guy left out a few crucial details about the loan and how solar works: 1) how the loan payment nearly doubles at 17 months unless you apply a tax credit, and even then, it's still higher 2) how we still pay the power company to stay connected to their grid 3) how we have to add solar to our homeowners insurance, which increased our payment slightly. So we kept finding them out later and feeling deceived and like all these extra things made it not the dream deal it sounded like - not a good thing for financial planning! I also didn't like how our sales guy had us create an "account" before we were sure we were going with it, which actually meant signing a contract, so we ended up feeling trapped in something we weren't even sure we wanted. We had 3 days to cancel, and then there was supposed to be a fee for cancelling after. The sales guy said we would NOT have to pay that, but I didn't trust him by then, especially when my name was signed on the contract saying we would have a fee. Then there was some "issue" that was never explained to us, so it took 2 months after the city inspection to even get our panels turned on. Again not great when we are paying both for our solar loan and our power bill. I would suggest shopping around when getting solar, not just getting roped into it by a sales pitch
