Abandoned My Project - Not Complete After 6 Months

We contracted with ION Solar to install a solar system and battery backup on my house on 7/8/25. As of 1/7/25, the project has not been completed or energized. They have now no call/no showed 3 appointments to finish the work and energize the system. Despite my repeated attempts to keep the project moving and get the work completed, ION Solar has stopped responding to me. The box that is supposed to contain our solar meter has been covered with a sheet of cardboard for nearly a month now (pictured) because they have not come to complete the work or have it inspected. We are proceeding with a project abandonment complaint through NMRLD's Construction Industries Division, as well as with our financing company, and the guarantor of their surety bond in New Mexico.

Very Disapointed

Our residential solar project began in July 2025. ION Solar had been persistant in follow-up contact to our initial solar inquiry. Today is January 5, 2026. There have been delays, deception, disapointment to no end. The solar panels were installed PRIOR to ION Solar receing permission from our electric provider to do so. ION Solar failed to submit interconnection documentation which caaused delays in this project. The sales person advised our 1st payment would be due 90 days AFTER the system was in operation. THE SYSTEM IS NOT OPERATIONAL AND I AM BEING TOLD MY 1ST PAYMENT IS DUE NEXT WEEK ! I CAN NOT GET ION SOLAR TO RETURN MY PHONE CALLS, TEXT MESSAGES OR EMAILS ! I am not convinced going solar was a bad idea, but having ION SOLAR as the contractor has been an unbelievable frustration, DO NOT BELIEVE ANYTHING ION SOLAR PROMISES. Trying to terminate this fiasco would cost us over $3000 because we didn't terminate the agreement within 72 hours! We had no idea this is how we would be (mis)treated I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General of New Mexico to report these business irregularities and fraudulant promoses. I doubt there is much that can be done for us, but I pray someone who might read this would be spared the frustration we have experienced. I dread to think ahead as to what other issues we will have to face after (IF) this system is ever active. Don't trust ION SOLAR !!!!!

I don’t know how they’re still in business

They did my panels after after a friend recommended them, as they’d used them for their home. I was happy until it came time to install, cancelations, delays, lies, scams. When they finally got installed they didn’t do the critter guard correct, $10,000 in damages, new equipment and cleanup later. Ion said ‘we guarantee our critter guard’. No effort to make it right, help, anything just a ‘sucks to suck’. I swore off ion after the 6 month installation and then that. Fast forward to this summer. I had bee on the market for a backup battery, ion now offered it and allegedly if I’d gone with another company it would void my warranties on the equipment (honestly would have been worth it at this point). I had an out of state sales rep contact me. We spent many hours chatting over the course of a few weeks about how reluctant I was to do business was with ION ever again, he wore me down. I have had nothing but issues since and it’s been 6 months and the battery still isn’t permitted and turned on. The community is terrible inside the company. I got an installation permit approval AFTER it was already installed. Ion called NV energy on my behalf for gold band removal, which I was told once they can’t do, but NV energy had a request on file, then ION canclled the appointment I made, made a new one and reschedule my appt, which I had to be home for. I had to take many days off of work and rearrange my schedule for ION to not show up, have the wrong paperwork, they showed up on unscheduled days, needed to get in the garage, told me vastly different information than anyone else at ion and then when I would call to get it squared away and nobody would have any idea what I was talking about. I’ve gotten a lot of ‘sorry, we are doing the best we can’ and yet still don’t have a operation battery, and no more progress to get it on. Save yourself the heart ache and use literally anyone else

this company went from great to terrible really fast

Originally I was thrilled with the installation and the lack of electric bills I had. However now at the 3 year mark I have nothing but remorse that I am locked into the service of this company. Half of my 15 solar panels quit working only 3 years after installation. No big deal right? 20 year warranty. Nope. The 2 year service warranty expired so my panels were off for over a month, with no notification from the system to inform me, and I got a bill from Xcel, and on top of that now have a 250 dollar service charge for them to come out and fix my only 3 year old solar panels. So the day rolls around, I take off work, netting me another loss of money only for the service tech to just flat out not show up. When I call to reschedule I'm told there is nothing they can do since it is 5 and the service place closes at 4 even though when I tried to reschedule the first time I called at 3:45 and was told I'd receive a call back through their automated system. When I raise this issue with the call lady I am told that my issue cant be elevated. So now I have no service date, after prepaying 250, and a broken 3 year old solar panel that I paid 30k dollars for. Extremely unsatisfactory service from this company.

When am i getting my panels installed?

This has been one of the most frustrating companies I’ve ever dealt with. I could live with the two-month delay for installation, but virtually no one in the company—except my salesman, whose hands are just as tied—can ever give me a clear, straight answer about anything.

Horrible Experience

Where do I begin. Approximately 6 months ago started with solar quote. The sales agent messed up and didn’t include the battery as requested. Then a manager was able to make adjustments and get it included. Then fast forward 2 months later, they show up for install and do not talk to us about anything and do their own thing, resulting in less than optimal batter placement, and SURPRISE, they do NOT have what they need to complete project. Then a couple weeks later, more backholds. After finally a third site visit, we are told solar works. It was in fact not working. Then we find out they did not commission the battery for use and tell us to do it but they have to so a fourth encounter to our home and it is finally working. Downfalls continue, they processed our solar loan on the initial install date and we paid nearly $400 in interest for a non working system due to multiple failures. And we are told basically, sorry and good luck. I have met 5 year olds who run lemonade stands with better business integrity than this business. Next will be to notify the BBB of the injustice. If Ion shows up, simply do NOT engage. You will be your own project manager and get the run around until you are forced to be firm and stand your ground.

Good for initial not add on

They are a really good company for initial install, of you are going to add to your system just go with another company. They will come and install a whole new box on the outside of your house, and install a system that does not communicate with the old system. They are also terrible at communication. I never knew what was happening and every time I called the people I spoke to didn't know what was happening. They also will make appointments and never show up or call. So just save yourself the trouble and go with somebody else.

DONT USE ION SOLAR PLEASE!!!!

I have been working with ION Solar for over seven months, and the experience has been nothing short of unacceptable. What should have been a straightforward process has turned into a cycle of delays, excuses, and poor communication. My solar system remains unconnected, and to make matters worse, the battery they installed turned out to be defective. Instead of enjoying the benefits of my investment, I am stuck waiting for verification and authorization to operate — a process that has dragged on far too long. Throughout this ordeal, ION Solar has cost me six full days of time off from work to accommodate appointments that consistently led nowhere. Each visit ended with another excuse and no progress. Despite the time, effort, and money I’ve invested, I still have a non-functioning system. The lack of accountability and professionalism from this company has made what should have been an exciting upgrade to my home into a source of stress and regret. I have repeatedly requested to speak with someone at the corporate level to address these ongoing issues and find a resolution, but every request has been ignored or dismissed. Their representatives make promises they never follow through on, leaving me to constantly chase updates, return calls, and push for answers that never come. It’s clear that once they have your business, customer care is no longer a priority. The customer service experience has been one of the most disappointing aspects. ION Solar’s representatives claim they want to make things right, yet their actions show the opposite. There is no urgency, transparency, or accountability for their mistakes. They don’t seem to care about the time I’ve wasted or the frustration of investing thousands of dollars into a system that doesn’t work. Their “local company with a proven track record” pitch is exactly what convinced me to sign, and I deeply regret believing it. If you value your time, money, and peace of mind, I strongly urge you to stay away from ION Solar. They have shown me nothing but delays, defective equipment, broken promises, and disregard for the customer. If you want to waste your resources and patience, then by all means, choose them. Otherwise, look elsewhere. I’m beyond disappointed and wish I had never signed the deal. #IONSolar #CustomerExperience #SolarPanels #DefectiveBattery #DoBetter #HomeownerWarning #WasteOfTime #AccountabilityMatters

Expensive system that doesn't meet more than 60% of Consumption

My in-laws (retired, fixed income, non-technical) signed up for a $52K system that at full production doesn't meet more than 60% of their normal consumption. The response from Ion Solar was that they are not the cheapest nor the most expensive, and they could have shopped around if the price was too high. No response to the improper sizing of the system. The system has 20 panels and a standard Enphase controller.

Terrible with scheduling. Long delays. Non existent customer service. After the panels were installed they left. I paid them in full. 4 weeks later they scheduled the final electrical inspection which FAILED because Ion decided not to install the required grounding, which is not a big job. They just told me it was "good enough" and they left. After the failed inspection they have not responded to any email or phone call regarding completing the job. Zero response. I've scheduled for a real electrician to come finish the job. I'll have to pay for that of course. I'm taking over the project as they are not capable of doing it. I need to get this done by the end of 2025. I'll most likely take them to small claims court for failure to fulfill the contract obligations and my costs to finish the job. DO NOT HIRE ION. They are scattered, and have terrible management. NO Customer service.

TERRIBLE COMPANY

We thought we picking the right solar company to install our solar panels, BOY, WERE WE WRONG! We got swindled by "a used car salesman" John Hensch. He made promises and grade A service and it's been a lie from the moment they came out of his mouth! Costumer Service? ION does not have it! From the moment we scheduled the install was the beginning of your nightmare with ION. ION does not communicate with any of their departments. Scheduling was a complete mess. Day of installation the "custom" panels did NOT work! Hours and hours of trouble shooting and still could not get them to work. It took TWO weeks for ION to send out someone to repair them. The crew they sent out to repair the panels one of their employees was high/intoxicated. After another 5 hours of troubleshooting ION still could not fix the panels. Fairfax County inspector came today to look at the install and FAILED ION for having panels that did NOT work. ION promised a new team to repair, and they are a no show! When we called ION they said they would have someone out sometime this afternoon, no I am sorry for the inconvenience, or you are a priority!

Do Not Use ION Solar - Dishonest Company

ION mistakenly initiated two loan applications for us for our solar panels. We wanted to have both my name and my husband's name on the loan. The initial financing company we applied with could not put both of us on the loan, so we switched financing 4 days after that to a different lender. According to our Account Manger, Jasmine Cabezas, our sales rep, David Abrams, never notified her of the lender change. When our panels were finally installed in July, we received notification from the original lender that we needed to do a welcome call for our loan. We called and realized it was the wrong loan company, and immediately called ION. After two months of constant phone calls, text messages, and emails with ION Customer Service and the loan company, and after assurances from our sales rep that a new loan application would be put in to allow both myself and my husband to be on the loan, we were told today that it could not be done. David Abrams is incredibly dishonest and never owned up to his mistake. We could not get in touch with anyone at ION outside of finally talking to our account manager in early September. We were repeatedly told we would receive a call back within x amount of hours, and repeatedly never received a call. This company reinforces the stereotype of terrible, dishonest salespeople. 100% regret going with ION.

The worst company I have ever dealt with for any project done.

It took 11 months to install from start to finish after I was told it wouldn't be more than 4 months. From the day I signed, I had problems. Engineer dept didn't include shutoff switch to the county after they included them in the plans sent to me. Inspections scheduling told me to be here all day knowing inspectors were not coming. Installation installed equipment that was not supposed to be installed, (again, in the plans). Every dept had problems until I got with Matthew Santiago who go the project to completion. Then I got to the Finalization team who is supposed to get me all my rebate paperwork to submit to state. All the paperwork was blank and that was a whole other ordeal. I will give this advise. Want a job where you don't do any work: apply to Ion Solar!

We are 9 months in from the start of my project and nothing has been started on my home. I signed a contract in November 2024 and was told the project would probably be installed by the end of the year. It's August 2025. The project includes an electric panel upgrade and solar panels. There is no way to call anyone directly. Most requests for calls are ignored or they tell you they cannot. They have 20 different people working independently of one another, no single source contact or project manager. After going back and forth on the design for 4-5 months they finally listened to my request and drew something up that i would approve. I had to file a BBB complaint before they made anything happen. Then we wait for permits, and yes that process can take awhile, and i was patient checking in after weeks of no communication for updates. I finally received an email saying everything was in order and we scheduled the panel upgrade one day and the solar panels another day per my request to streamline my ability to provide them access to the attic and basement while restraining the pet access around their work environments. The day of the electric panel work they told me the power would be out the entire day so I made preparations to work from home without electricity, rearranged my schedule to accommodate not being in the office, pack a cooler and meals, and came up with a plan for the pets. Everyone shows up, but all the proper permits were not prepared by Ion so the energy company refused to comply and left. Nothing was completed that day, the PM at Ion never reached out to discuss, and I had to call their 800 number and sit on hold for a half hour to be told there was nothing they could do and they would need some time to reschedule but it's gonna be a few months because they are booked up.

Do Not Use Ion Solar! A Three-Month Nightmare and Counting.

My experience with Ion Solar has been an absolute disaster, and I strongly advise against using their services. What should have been a straightforward second solar installation has turned into a three-month-long nightmare of incompetence, poor communication, and unresolved issues. Our ordeal began in early May with the first of many rescheduled appointments due to "unavailable parts." The actual installation started on May 13th, only for the crew to realize they had the wrong size breaker box after working all day. This was the beginning of a frustrating cycle of canceled appointments, often with little to no notice. We were repeatedly asked to prepare for a significant power outage that never happened, causing major disruptions to our schedules and my wife's business, which she runs from our garage. The communication has been abysmal. Despite having pre-approved HOA documents, we received redundant requests for them. A senior project manager was assigned to our case, but this has not improved the situation. She has canceled appointments, sent irrelevant texts, and even referenced the wrong solar company on multiple occasions. Her proposed solution to our significant inconvenience was a meager gift card for dinner. To make matters infinitely worse, we recently discovered that our existing solar panels were turned off on May 14th, the very first day the Ion crew was on-site. This means that during the hottest months of the year, we have been without our primary source of solar energy, leading to an unexpectedly high utility bill. When I brought this to the project manager's attention, she had the audacity to claim it was my fault for not noticing sooner. As of today, July 14th, our new solar panels are still not installed. Our garage has been left with large, unrepaired holes in the drywall and cracked stucco from the work that was done. We chose Ion Solar for a second time because our first experience was so positive. This time, however, has been a complete and utter failure on every level. The lack of planning, poor execution, and dismissive customer service are appalling. These last three months have been hell. Do not make the same mistake we did. Do not use Ion Solar.

⭐ 0 Star – Avoid at All Costs Don’t get ripped off

I deeply regret ever signing a contract with Mona Lee Inc. On November 10, 2024, I hired and paid them $60,000 to install a 24kW roof-mounted solar system on my home — including 60 LONGi 400W panels, 3 Tesla inverters, and all the necessary electrical upgrades. The system was supposed to come with a 25-year warranty, and the inverters were warrantied for 12.5 years. Fast forward to March 2025: Mona Lee told me the installation was complete and demanded final payment. But when I checked the system performance through the Tesla app, it was clearly underproducing. We’d done our homework, and it was obvious something was wrong — especially compared to our neighbors’ much smaller systems that were generating far more power. At first, Mona Lee insisted there was no issue, but after we pushed back with data, they finally admitted one of the three inverters wasn’t working. Tesla eventually fixed it remotely, and the system started working properly — for about 60 days. Then, in late May, the system performance dropped off a cliff — down to 60% production. Once again, we reached out to Mona Lee. This time they shoved us toward Tesla’s app-based support, which is nothing but frustrating, automated AI troubleshooting. After wasting time with that, we asked for real help and got tossed back and forth between Tesla and Mona Lee. From May 30 onward, it’s been a circus of excuses and empty promises. I was told a tech would be sent “ASAP.” Then they told me it would be “2–3 days.” Then “we’re escalating the issue.” Then… nothing. As of July, no technician has ever come, and my system — a massive, expensive investment — has now been mostly non-functional for nearly two months. I’ve sent multiple follow-up emails, including a registered letter to their corporate office. All of it has been ignored. Bottom line: Mona Lee Inc. takes your money, installs faulty equipment, and disappears the moment there’s a problem. They blame Tesla, deflect responsibility, and offer zero accountability for the system they designed, installed, and guaranteed. My system worked for less than 20% of the time it’s been installed, and I’ve been completely abandoned. If you value your time, money, or sanity, do not do business with Mona Lee Inc. I wouldn’t trust them to install a lightbulb, let alone a solar system.

Regret with Ion Solar Non-Functioning System, Contract Breach

I deeply regret choosing Ion Solar. My system is currently not functioning, and Ion has been unresponsive in resolving the issue. On top of that, I have yet to receive the contracted incentives that were a key part of why I signed with them in the first place. I financed my system through Dividend, and I’m now stuck making loan payments on a solar setup that isn't even producing power. I've reached out to Ion multiple times, and the lack of accountability and follow-through has been incredibly frustrating. If you're considering Ion Solar, be very cautious. The promises they make during the sales process don’t seem to hold up once they’ve installed the panels and moved on. This has turned what should’ve been a great investment into a stressful and ongoing battle.

Worst Experience Ever

My system was damaged by squirrels chewing on electrical lines. After 5 months of run around and $1000’s of dollars in service fees, my system still had very serious problems. I had to pay extra fees to use a credit card or pay by ACH transfer IN ADVANCE just to wait weeks more before someone would actually come out. After several expensive service visits, my system was not properly repaired and was still open to further damage by squirrels. I found another company that did the work for half as much money and did it right the first time! They were prompt and showed me how ION had not properly diagnosed my problems! If I had stayed with ION, I would have paid twice as much money (or more) and may not ever have it fixed correctly. If you are smart, find someone else to install your solar. Awful experience

There’s been a huge lack of communication and we have no idea what is going on with our system. We officially got told our system was finalized and up and running 3 weeks ago but got no communication as to how to monitor our system or what we needed to do. After reaching out, we got told to contact Enphase for access to the app for monitoring but Enphase didn’t have record of us and we don’t have any Enphase equipment. We then got directed to contact Solar Edge (which matches the equipment we have) but we have been back and forth between Ion Solar and Solar Edge for a week and a half now with both companies saying that the other company needs to be the one to help us get access to the monitoring for our system. We have already had to start paying monthly payments for a system that we don’t even know if it’s working and we can’t get Ion to do anything to help us. Today they claimed that someone tried calling us but neither my husband or I received a call and when we contacted them, we just got yet another dead end. We tried asking for a refund and for them to uninstall since things clearly are going nowhere and they said we can’t do that because it’s already been paid for by the financing company. It’s been a whole load of shit for absolutely no good reason! Do not go with them!!!!

When comparing the cost of switching to Ion with not bothering, PLEASE don't forget to include the cost of the damaged panels that they will charge to replace when they get chewed on by squirrels (let alone the cost of roof repair from the burrowing), and please don't forget to factor in the $250 house call when a panel has an error. Let alone the thousands of dollars charged to remove and reinstall when your shingles have to be replaced. You will be shackled with a decades-long loan while still paying for the electricity you couldn't produce while your panels either break down or get serviced and replaced for a high, HIGH price.

Terrible Install

The process started out smooth and the sales guy Kaden was great. But as soon as it got to installation everything went downhill. When they scheduled I was told on the call that they would be working inside the house for at least an hour, then the light would go out for an bit, and that after that everything else was outside. This was not the case at all because as soon as they arrived they worked outside and maybe an hour or so later one of them came in and said he needed to do some work in the attic. After he finished he yelled out that they were done inside and did not need to come back in. I waited a little longer and then decided to get ready for work, as I was in the shower all of my lights went off with no prior warning. I let that go, and proceeded to get ready in the dark. As I was getting ready to leave for work all of the trucks left my house without saying a word. When I arrived home from work my lights upstairs were still not working and neither was my fridge. This caused some of my food to go bad and nearly my insulin. So, I went to go reset my breaker and they worked for the most part. But when I went to reset my breaker there was trash in the area they workers were in. They also left crusty mud, and insulation all over the carpet upstairs where they accessed the attic. Then not only that, the next morning my fridge went off again. This has never happened until the panels were installed. When I called ION I told them everything and their response was only to send a technician the next day. The technician did not show up on time because he had other installations to do, despite not clearly being done with mine. On my driveway camera I saw that he arrived no more than 5 minutes before he called me, and on the call he said that it was because of the breaker box being faulty and having recalls. He advised me to call my home warranty, and to look it up myself. Which I did both and there were no recalls listed and my home warranty said that they should know if they install a solar on the house it voids all warranties. Even then the agent proceeded to tell me that they use the same box for every house in the area and they never received a notice for recalls. The point is the technician just did not want to work on my electrical that they messed up. I am still currently playing phone tag with this company and have had to dispose of at least $100 worth of groceries and thank god only vial of insulin. Hopefully they get it together because I don’t want to have to replace more insulin since it is so expensive. I can only say I wish I never went through with this.
