Tesla Energy is the renewable energy division of Tesla and within it are two business units.

It competes closely with rival Sunrun for the mantle of being the largest installer of residential solar power systems. It is the manufacturer of the Tesla Powerwall 2, arguably the leading residential energy storage solar battery solution on the market.

With its renewable energy solutions and pioneering electric cars, Tesla has done more to fight climate change than any other company in the world. We here at SolarReviews have a positive bias towards supporting Tesla because of the alignment of their goals and ours to fight climate change on all fronts.

There are several advantages of buying solar panels from Tesla, namely their pricing for cash-purchased systems - which are now very competitive - and their Powerwall 2 solar battery. If you decide to buy a hybrid system with battery storage, there may be some comfort in knowing you are buying it directly from the manufacturer.

However, our experience in the solar industry leads us towards having a strong preference for local solar companies over large corporations when it comes to the purchasing of solar panels. Solar panels are a unique consumer product in that they are designed to last 25-30 years, and they interact with the utility grid as well as the other electrical infrastructure within your home.

Although solar is very reliable, things do go wrong. Where large corporate solar installation companies have traditionally lacked is in their after-sales service and after-sales technical support dealing with these issues.

Prior to September 2020, Tesla had a reviews score on our site of less than 2 out of 5. However, since then, there has been a strong influx of positive reviews for the company and their overall reviews score has improved substantially. Almost all of these reviews have been from customers who had recently purchased a system, so it remains unclear if Tesla has only improved their sales and installation process, or whether their overall customer service to older customers has improved, as well.

The difficulty that Tesla Energy faces with rolling out localized after-sales customer service over such a wide geographic area is significant. Perhaps not dissimilar to the same problem they will face with their iconic electric cars. Cars will get old and need servicing. Will Tesla be able to do this as well as brands with localized dealerships? It may very well be that Tesla can solve the localized customer service challenges in both the solar and the automotive sectors in the years to come. If they can, it will be a momentous achievement.

However, at this time, our advice remains that you should look for a well-established local solar company when buying solar panels for your home. If you wish to use the market-leading Powerwall battery, then it may be wise to consider purchasing it through a local solar company rather than through Tesla directly. It may cost a little more, but could also give you better access to localized support for your entire system. Given the system will be up and running for 25-30 years, and the fact that some electrical problems can be hard to diagnose remotely, we feel a premium is justified for long-term access to responsive local service.

Exceptional Installation Experience & Product

Just finished installation and turned system on. The panels Tesla installed are the new design (early 2026) and they look great. Powerwalls look great. So just looking at the app and on a sunny day system appears to be operating as specified. The real reason I'm taking time to write a review is due to the Installation process. From the pre-installation communication, to the finish clean up, I'm extremely impressed. Most impressive was the installation crew...showed up on-time, both days and went to work with purpose. Very pleasant and professional and the installation of both the panels and 4 powerwalls looks great and extremely solid. At the end, the lead took time to explain everything (powerwalls, gateway, and all electric connections/switches). Went over the app and kept asking me if there were any more questions that I had. Did not seemed rushed and all the crew left with my property completely cleaned up. I'm giving "after sales support" 5 stars but that is subject to change in the future (though I'm fairly confident it will be good based on the entire process).

Bad times

Tesla’s crew damaged my newly seeded lawn during my solar/Powerwall installation before the panels were even installed. They arrived in Tesla vehicles, drove a heavy truck onto my lawn without asking, made multiple turns, and tore up the grass and soil. They were not apologetic when I told them to get off the lawn. The experience got worse when they initially tried to place the Powerwall slab in the front yard near the breaker box instead of the agreed-upon location on the side of the house. They eventually placed it correctly, but only after I had to argue with them. I contacted Tesla repeatedly by phone, text, and email, but I have not received a meaningful resolution. This has been a very stressful and disappointing experience. I want Tesla to repair the damaged lawn/soil, replace the seed, and provide a reliable point of contact before the rest of the project continues.

Solar Panels

Tesla Solar Energy, need to just stick with vehicles only and pull out of the Home improvement business. My roof is now damaged with a giant hole and because Tesla panels sits on top of it I am unable to repair/ replace because the company is dragging their feet and giving me the runaround to remove it. Each phone call/ email Tesla give me excuses why they can't remove it at this time, meanwhile the structure of my home and the leaking roof is destroying my home and wildlife intrusions. I now have brown stains in my ceiling and the smell of dampness in my home. I feel as if I have been scammed and I will have to get another Solar company to remove the panels for me in a timely manner to prevent molds from growing in the home. Please I don't want anyone else to go through this DO NOT get Tesla Solar panels it's an outright scam, their customer service is a joke it's almost as if they're reading from a scammer booklet while their speaking with you, asking the same questions each phone calls and still nothing gets done.

Tesla Inverter Failed in less than 18 months

It was very disappointing to experience a total failure of Tesla Inverter within 18 months of its original installation. The system with 2 inverters and 16KW Solar panels was installed during Mid-November of 2024, one of the two inverters suddenly failed with 0% production of energy on March-13th-2026. The frustrating part is the customer service; After trying to reset the system several times, I used my Tesla App to reach out to customer support, however their response time to my query was 5-7 business days. I had to wait till Monday March-16-2026 to speak to one of their team members, after ~ 30 mins of hold/talk time they enabled me to schedule an appointment through my Tesla App. The appointment currently is for April-22nd-2026. They need ~ 5 weeks to have their technician come and take a look at what exactly is the issue ! This is just for assessing/investigating the issue, most probably some hardware component of the inverter needs to be replaced, which may take more time since Tesla needs to order the failed parts. I regret my decision to go with Tesla Solar system, I did not do my research well before deciding on the vendor. This is a lesson learnt the hard way for me. After sales service is an important aspect before we buy any thing which has a high probability of failures.

Tesla Solar Installation

We had an excellent experience with the Tesla solar installation team. The entire crew was amazing—extremely professional, knowledgeable, and clearly very skilled at what they do. They worked efficiently and were surprisingly quiet throughout the installation process. The team was also very respectful of our property. They kept everything neat and organized, and the job was completed in a very timely manner. The explanation of the system was incredible. Mike, the electrician, took the time to thoroughly explain how the system works, answered all of our questions, and made sure we fully understood everything. His knowledge and professionalism really stood out. Overall, we are extremely impressed with the Tesla solar team and the quality of their work. Highly recommend! ⭐

Customer Service is the worst I have ever experienced

Solar Panels quit working the last day of August 2025. In September a representative came out and stated that a specific part was defective that they knew about. (Why didn't he bring it with him?) Repair was schedules for a day in October resulting in a "no show" and not phone call, text message, zero. The repair was rescheduled for November only to be cancelling due to permits required by Baltimore County. (How did Baltimore County get involved or even find out about my non-functioning solar panels?) Tesla claimed they got the permits at the end of November and then said they needed to get the permits in December. (?) The permits were obtained by Tesla January 13th, 2026, and I have heard nothing from them. These people are terrible and if you are considering getting solar panels, find somebody, anybody else. I am entering my sixth month of NO SERVICE.

Tesla Energy is Customer Obsessed, Perfect

Over promised and underdeliverd. Scam vibes

It turned out to be sales pitch. Over promised and underdeliverd. Paid 48k with two power walls and 56% of my energy yesterday when it was sunny and 80 degrees was from the grid. That includes solar produced yesterday and energy from my two power walls that never reach above 35% during winter. Solar is only producing 4kwh and I have a 10.5 Solar system. Frustrated with the outcome and not worth the money even with the Federal rebate

Product installation problems and lack of monitoring

I purchased the Tesla solar panel system back in 2021 and notice that the production was lacking after installation and activation. I called and actually spoke to a person expressing my concerns and was told that even it was at the lower end of energy production, it could be due to clouds or shading. I knew that was not the case. I was informed that if the system did have a fault, their monitoring team would catch it on their end. Ok, let me trust that advise. WRONG!!! I don't think they are really monitoring these systems. 4 years later, I was having production drop off. Tesla team finally came out to check my system and due to cloud cover, he was not able to fully test the panels so the tech ordered a replacement part and said this may solve the issue. After the new parts arrive and another appointment, the new parts were installed and the energy production drop off was remedied but the tech noticed that the system was not producing the amount of energy it was capable of. He check and determined that only one out of the two strings of panels was delivering energy to my home. It was only at one-half energy production. Another appointment was made and finally, this time, the tech discovered that the wiring was done incorrectly, therefore it was not delivering its portion of energy. He remedied the situation after over 4 years of loss energy production. So, I called Tesla's energy team and convey my issue about their installation team's error at the beginning and asked not for monetary compensation but to extend my warranty for 4 more years. I felt this was reasonable since they made the installation mistake and by extending the warranty was justified. Well, they said no. I asked, will they compensate me for their error after I paid fully for a defective system. They said no. I was informed that my system was fixed and that is all they are obligated to do. I ask to speak to a supervisor, they said leadership will say the same thing. They gave a a phone number to call and I again asked for the name of the supervisor I should ask for. I was informed that this conversation was unproductive and disconnected me from their chat line. Yup, refused to give me a named of a supervisor and then hung up on me. I wonder if he even spoke to anyone higher up???

End of contract

I'm very disappointed in my experience with Tesla. The app worked fine, but if you needed to speak with someone the hold would sometimes be an hour or so. Other times I'd get through to be referred to another department, only to hold forever, again. My main complaint is that they handled my end of contract in and unethical way. My monthly payment was just under $28, which was fine and I did save some on energy costs. I closed on my home on 10-31-25. On November 3rd I was debited my account for the monthly charge. I contacted them and we went endlessly back and forth via email. They asked for paperwork showing my closing date. I provided them the deed from the title company, which didn't suffice, they wanted it directly from the title company, which they complied in sending it to Tesla. After receiving the information I was denied again to receive my refund. Tesla decided that because it wasn't recorded till November 3rd that I was required to pay November. Octiber 31st was on a Friday, therefore it dudnt get recorded till Monday.Recording of the deed and the actual closing date are not the same thing. If that was the case why did they keep asking for proof that we closed and signed legal papers on October 3rd. In the end I let it go because I didn't want to go to small claims court for such a small amount. Really, it's the principle of the whole thing. It's sad and underhanded to not give a loyal customer their deserved and legal refund. I would not recommend them in any way. Dorothy Alawaji

No way would I do business with these people

Complete confusion trying to get a simple quote. Then they email with lease options but then say that I have to have utility statements first. I tried to express my frustrations, and some kid named Mark Lonzame said 'hey no worries'. No worries is correct, no worries that I would ever spend a dime with these clowns.

Terrible customer service

The customer service I've experienced has been extremely disappointing. For the past 10 months, I've experienced repeated delays– appointment scheduled months out only to be told at the time of service that another part needs to be ordered, which I'd several more months of waiting. Because I did not purchase a performance guarantee package, I'm expected to absorb all additional cost despite these delays being entirely on the company side. It's clear the company is aware of these issues and get chooses not to address them. I find it unacceptable that they continue operating this way, charging customers for services they failed to deliver.

Rip Off - Don’t use Tesla panels

I was with Solar City panels and they were bought out by Tesla. My panels stopped working for 3 months. After multiple calls, it took 3 months to get a tech to come out. For 2 months I’m expected to pay for a service that I was not getting. After they came back online, I had to get my roof replaced. I made tha appointment in August for the next available appointment in November, yes 3 months wait to get my panels off in order to fix my roof. Now it’s November, the next available appointment to get my panels back is April, yes April of next year. So my panels are lying on the side of my house for the next 6 months! I’m expected to make payments for the next 6 months for panels that are stacked on the side of my house and not generating The earliest appointment is April 6 months from now. I’m expected to pay 6 months for a service that I’m not getting. I was with Solar City and was bought out by Tesla. Tesla is notorious for bad service and a cruddy business practices. I would never choose Tesla to provide any service for me. Tesla sucks! Customer service sucks. Every time I call, I’m on hold for at least an hour! Soon as my contract is done, I can’t wait to get rid of these Tesla panels! It’s not worth it!

DO NOT do business with Tesla Energy

I purchased my solar panel contract from SolarCity more than ten years ago. After Tesla acquired SolarCity, the customer service experience has steadily gone downhill. 1. Customer service is only accessible through the Tesla app -- Issues that previously took 15 minutes to resolve now require 45 minutes or more of constant back-and-forth “chatting” in the app. There’s no easy way to speak to a human, and every simple question becomes a drawn-out process. 2. Roof leak and solar panel removal delays -- When I reported a roof leak, Tesla Energy said it would take six weeks to schedule a technician to remove the solar panels so my roofer could access the area. Six weeks for such a time-sensitive issue is unreasonable. Fortunately, another customer canceled, and I was squeezed into an earlier slot, but it still took two weeks just to remove the panels. 3. Even longer delay for reinstalling the panels -- After the roof repair, I requested Tesla to reinstall the panels. This time, I was told it would take twelve weeks. That meant being without solar power for over three months to complete a relatively simple roofing repair. 4. Problems during home sale -- When I sold my home, the buyer did not want the solar panels. After hours of multiple chat sessions, Tesla informed me that: • I could not cancel the contract, even though I had already fully paid, because I “did not own” the system — only the energy it generated. • I could not transfer the system to my new house because it was outside their service district. The only option offered was to purchase the system outright, which cost me over $7,000. 5. Account closure confusion -- After purchasing the system, I contacted customer service again to close my account. After another hour-long chat, I was told their records did not show the system as “purchased” and that I needed to contact their Title team. That meant another hour wasted explaining the same issue all over again. Bottom line -- If you have a choice, avoid dealing with Tesla Energy. The technology might be fine, but the customer service is extremely slow, disorganized, and frustrating. Unless you’re unusually lucky, expect long delays and repeated communication breakdowns — what should be a simple green energy solution can easily turn into a long, exhausting nightmare.

Stay away! Terrible service incompetent

Unfortunately I’ll end up losing the tax credit thanks to this completely incompetent company Started almost 3 months ago, I was told should be no problem we can install this year in your area. They don’t respond emails or take weeks, don’t respond to chats never call when they say they will Didn’t show up to appointments 2 times in a down then showed up late and said they didn’t have time Rescheduled appointments a month out each time They don’t care about their customers at all

Eric Viverito | Las Vegas, NV | 09/29/2025

Solar panel customer support HORRIBLE

I’ve never experienced such poor customer service. I’ve been paying Tesla solar for usage even though the panels are not producing anything and have not been since August 2024. They won’t send anyone out and yet continue charging me monthly for the usage that is a usage estimate as they are not producing. Over the last year I’ve gifted Tesla over 1k in usage for leased panels with no benefit or offset on my electric bill. When I try to contact them via phone no one answers so I chat online and they just tell me to reset the inverter and it still hasn’t worked or fixed the issue.

Powerwall 3 is a game changer

I recently had Tesla Solar Panels installed along with a Powerwall 3, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience and results. The installation process was smooth and professional, and the team kept me updated every step of the way. The system looks sleek, and it’s already making a noticeable difference in reducing my reliance on the grid. The Powerwall 3 has been a game-changer—it stores enough energy to keep my home running even during peak hours or outages, giving me both savings and peace of mind. The Tesla app makes it easy to monitor energy production, usage, and storage in real time, which I find very convenient. Overall, I’m very satisfied with my decision to go with Tesla Solar and would highly recommend it to anyone considering clean energy for their home.

Solar installation and scheduling

Tesla is absolutely terrible at customer service. I scheduled a site visit for solar installation months in advance. The week before the scheduled visit, the rescheduled me with no explanation. I had already arranged a vacation day from work to be available and now I’m penalized for the extra day off and I have to take another day to reschedule. Tesla advisors communicate by text but they often don’t respond for days or even weeks to a query. Don’t go with Tesla!

Tesla terrible customer service.

Tesla has great cars but their solar customer service can only be described as terrible. Written 8-26-2025. 1430 hours. I keep getting emails asking for my utility bill to be uploaded. I have uploaded the bill at least 3 times, I have attached access to the PG&E account through the app, and I continue to receive emails asking to upload the utility bill. But yet on the Tesla account there is no action needed. I have asked via text numerous times to be contacted by Sara by phone, the Tesla solar customer contact person, with no contact. In order for the customer service person to call you. You must schedule a phone call appointment. And if you miss the call because the phone is not attached to your hip. You need to reschedule another phone call which means waiting another week to 10 days. Because the customer service representative, Sara , explained she is so busy with customers that she is unable to make phone calls when a customer requests to be contacted. You must make an appointment to be called by a service representative. And she, Sara refused to leave a call back number. Scheduling a phone call a week to 10 days out is unacceptable At this point Sara has failed my communication expectations. I am requesting a new project contact person. This did not happen and Sara refused to read the 2 pages of the utility bill that I uploaded which clearly displayed the account name, address, power use and the usagefor the prior 12 months. We had also given access to the PG&E app as requested by the Tesla account, so the hard copy of the bill shouldn't have been needed. Because Sara lack of communication and incompetence I asked for a replacement customer service person, that request was obviously ignored. I requested that the new person contact me via phone and this email should be forwarded up to the project managers chain of command. When that didn't happen I canceled the solar project and asked for a refund. In my opinion Tesla solar is a company to avoid.

Support is the worse Elon PLEASE LOOK!

All I can say is I hope ELON MUSK gets to see this review because I am a huge fan and decided to use Tesla Energy, but after putting down money I never received any calls on how thigs are moving along and what was needed from my side. They did come out once and measured the roof but then for weeks I have heard nothing even after opening multiple tickets (Service request) until I finally texted my project rep and told him if I get service like this now before the installation I can only imagen what the service would be like after they had my money and to CANCEL MY ORDER. I am not looking to throw anyone under the bus but I want ELON to know he is loosing business.

Disappointed by Long Downtime and Delayed Service

I’m very disappointed with my experience with Tesla Solar. My solar system was completely down for three months due to a system issue. During this time, I had to pay both my utility electricity bill and continue making payments on my Tesla solar system financing, which was frustrating and financially unfair. What made the situation worse is that it took Tesla three months just to schedule a maintenance visit. The delay in service was unacceptable for a company of Tesla’s size and reputation. I expected quicker support and resolution, especially when the system was not working and I was still being charged. If you are considering Tesla Solar, be aware that service delays can be extensive and costly when things go wrong.

System broke within 2 months

Took a long time to set up system. Finally got it up and working and then it stopped working within 2 months. I was told I needed a technician and the first available appointment is a month away. So in the middle of the hot summer when I could be generating the most kilowatts, I have to wait a month to get this fixed? There is no way to speak with a supervisor.

Two months wait to get a service call in LV

I have two Tesla solar systems. One in LA for four years without any incidents and a recently installed system Jan 2025 in Las Vegas. After three months the LV system performed erratically and shut down. It is taking over two months from my first service request to get a technician out to service the system issue. I was a staunch Tesla solar supporter until the unreasonable service response in Las Vegas.

Battery strength and length wasn't what I was hoping.

I only get between 10 - 12.5 kwh from my battery on any given day. During the winter in Arizona, yes, it can work and save me money. But it's already getting warm in Phoenix, and by 8:30 pm my charge is at zero. (yes, I know about the reserve, I was planning to put 30% reserve back on July 1.) Overall I'm not impressed with the system. It's ok. I have told others to wait and see what newer battery options are coming out.

Have used Tesla solar with good results on last two homes.Last fall started process with Tesla for this house- had to pay small deposit to get array design- was assured was refundable. Horrible customer service

The original solar panel installation caused damage to our roof which ultimately led to a roof leak. Tesla solar did not respond to our request to get help during the roofing repair project. We ended up having our roofer arrange the reinstallation of our solar panels otherwise our electric bill was ridiculous without solar. However, about 6 months later we had issues with our solar panels that were unrelated to the reinstallation. After a several months of run around with Tesla solar, we finally received new panels. However, the Tesla installation team would not work on our panels because they were not the ones who reinstalled them (even though that was only the case because they failed to come out in the first place when the roof was repaired). They wanted to take back our new solar panels but thankfully I found someone in customer service that actually cared so we kept the panels. We ended up having to pay $3500 to have a Tesla certified technician install the new panels. But now we are being told that our warranty is void and Tesla will never work on our panels again. I had communicated with Tesla customer service and they were the ones who told me that we had to be the ones to reinstall them and now they are saying that voided the warranty. It is so crazy! All of the communication is via e mail as you can never speak with someone. It is so frustrating to deal with this company. Do not buy solar panels from them if you want quality customer service!!

ADDING MORE EXPENSES TO THE LIST

I was recommended by 2-3 other company as the solar is not the recommended product for my need, where as Tesla individual did not utter single word about it , instead they recommended more panels ,recommended power storage , recommended need for new electrical panel ( mind well) this house went though house inspection 6 months ago and their on site person who came to take pictures told me in person that everything is good and shouldnt have problem, where as their remote team saw pictures and added 4k worth of electrical upgrade. when asked to put the person on phone line who came to inspect ,i was refused stating that they cannot do that . I was confident they would be busted if they did that.

Battery Backup and Solar

Great service and very easy to complete - very happy

Works well, except when something breaks

I have had my Tesla solar system with powerwall version 2 units and SolarEdge inverter for about 4.5 years. I had a little bit of trouble getting them to design the system so all the panels would be on the southwest roof, since they used google to check the roof and said roof vents were in the way - I relocated the roof vents and Tesla had to come back to check before they would change the design. Installation was fairly smooth. I did not have to wait very long after installation for the system to be connected, unlike others who said it took a long time. Things start breaking.... I was disappointed though when my SolarEdge inverter stopped working not just once, but twice. Both times it took Tesla months to come out for the first visit and then another appointment weeks later because they didn't bring parts to replace it on the first visit. Then the Tesla Gateway 2 stopped working recently and it took 6 weeks for them to come for the first visit (6 weeks was actually one of the quicker response times). The issue is that Tesla only has one technician covering the Houston, Austin, San Antonio area which could be a lot of customers. On the plus side, Tesla Energy has a phone number you can call for support Monday through Friday and talk to a regular person, unlike their car repair where you need to book service via the app. Others have mentioned it being hard to contact Tesla for support, but I haven't had that issue. I also had to replace the small unit that communicates with the SolarEdge inverter - the small gateway. Initially Tesla said my internet router was to blame because the unit kept saying "no server", but when the Tesla technician replaced the Energy Gateway, I mentioned to him about the other gateway device and he brought a replacement which worked right away. One major drawback I've noticed with Tesla powerwalls is that I can only charge them with solar power, so if the SolarEdge inverter breaks or the Gateway breaks, I'm stuck with no battery backup (once the batteries get used up) for at least a month and a half. That defeats the purpose of a backup power system because the backup system is not supposed to go down that often or if it goes down, it should be repaired quickly. I end up using my smaller 2 kwhr Bluetti battery more often than I should because the Tesla powerwalls are often out of commission due to the solar charging not working. I think there is an option to charge the powerwalls with grid power, but I would need to give up selling excess power to the grid.

Tesla customer service is hot steaming garbage

I have now spent the better part of six weeks trying to get Tesla to remove and reinstall a solar inverter at the location of an upgraded main service panel. This can only be done via a chat window which seems to be purposely hidden. There is not direct phone number for Tesla Solar service and any phone numbers you do find eventually direct you to the app. It's virtually impossible to talk to an actual human and the entire process seems designed to discourage. We signed the contract to have the inverter removed 4 weeks ago and were told that they would obtain permits and get started. I thought nothing of it since the permit (if it is required) is a general express electrical permit in Los Angeles. If you have a valid electrical license you can pull the permit on the computer faster than I'm typing this review. Every time I inquire and mention that it's an express permit they just say that it takes 2-4 weeks to obtain a permit. At this point Tesla's delay is actually holding my construction project up as we can't install the last window and seal the exterior wall up until they remove the inverter and disconnect switch. We're doing our best to continue with interior work but things will eventually grind to a halt. I would be in a little more forgiving if we had chosen Tesla, but we were one of the unfortunates that were swept up when Tesla bought Solar City. Fortunately, we only have a relatively small amount of time left on the lease and I cannot wait to have them take the system of the moment the lease is up. I've never been more turned off by terrible customer service with any company I've dealt with. Steer clear of this trainwreck.

I would have given your company a -5 if that choice was available.

Tesla PowerWall 3 Install

Moises and Jimmy from the Tesla, Space City Crew did an outstanding job installing my Tesla Powerwall 3. their work was neat, thorough, and showed great attention to detail. They took the time to explain how the system is assembled/installed and the overall workings of the system and how easy it would be to expand the system if future demands require it. Moises provided excellent mentorship to Jimmy, who was eager to learn. It was great to see Moises demonstrate tasks then have Jimmy do them hands on- truly the best way to learn. Overall, professional and well-executed installation. Best part no more electric bill!!!!! @TeslaEnergy.

Extreme Delays & Poor Customer Service

DO NOT BUY PANELS FROM THIS COMPANY Buyer Beware: Expect minimal communication after purchase. You will likely need to jump through hoops to get your interconnection application even ready for processing. After this Tesla interconnection team will need to submit to your Utility company on your behalf. Our application was submitted incorrectly/incomplete 3 times and rejected by SCE. Rework loop takes around weeks per incident after repeated emails. Currently waiting for additional resubmittal from Tesla for 4 weeks without any updates. Daily emails for updates are not responded to despite 5 months of panels being down after purchase. I will update on how long the actual process ends up taking.

Good Quality Product But Process Needs Big Improvement

First, let me say everyone we dealt with was very professional and courteous. The problems we encountered over almost 5 months getting our system installed was due to Tesla's cumbersome decentralized project management system and process. We had a project advisor, who we could set up calls with usually within a day or two through the app booking. However, she was really only a point of contact. Often she had to follow-up with another employee in design to find out where things stood, what the issues were, etc. Apparently, Tesla has no master software system where all of the cooks who are responsible for your project are updating and inputting details of where they are and what issues need to be shared with the customer. It is very decentralized process where we would have a call on a Monday and Tuesday and then she would spend the week chasing down the employee responsible and we would have the call the next week to have her relay that on to us. We spent weeks trying to chase down what needed to change in the project design, which was basically to remove a garage cabinet to free up wall space. It took almost a month to move on from this issue. Then after we finally had an installation and follow-up inspection from the city, we had to set up another call with her 3 weeks later to find out where the application with the utility was. It turns out Tesla was delinquent in filing it. Then the back-up switch was non-functional when the utility showed up, so it took two weeks to get Tesla back to replace it. We are still waiting for the Permission to Operate two full months after installation. We like the Tesla app and integration with our vehicles, and we hope the PowerWalls will give us years of service. But if you can obtain them through another solar operator, better to go that way.

Tesla solar is a scam

I regret ever choosing Tesla Solar. The system does not work, yet Tesla refuses to provide real data explaining why. Instead of taking responsibility, they’re pushing me to file a claim with my insurance—without offering any meaningful information to support it. Customer service is atrocious. Getting in touch with anyone is nearly impossible, and when they do respond, it’s usually a month later with no real solutions. The lack of accountability and transparency is beyond frustrating. If you’re considering Tesla Solar, save yourself the headache and go with a company that actually stands behind their product and supports their customers. This has been a horrible experience from start to finish.
