SunLux and Solar Edge not a good combination

We paid Sunlux nearly $40,000 for a 35-panel SolarEdge system, and it has gone down multiple times. It is currently not producing, and none of the inverter’s status lights are illuminated. We received no monitoring warning when production stopped and discovered the problem only after receiving an approximately $800 electric bill. Sunlux said its service coordinator would contact us and review the system, but we received no response, diagnosis, or service appointment. SolarEdge also refused to assist us directly and told us to work with the installer, leaving us stuck between two companies while the system remains down. We own four other solar systems using Enphase equipment, and those systems have been more reliable and better supported. We may now have to transfer service to another solar company simply to get the system inspected and pursue an inverter warranty claim. Based on our experience with Sunlux’s lack of responsiveness and follow-through, I cannot recommend this company.

Met with Michael Valencia via a web meeting and found his expertise regarding solar to be very informative. He explained the nature of the solar business and how the federal government subsidies have changed since 1/2025 and were implemented in 6/2025. How the power providers then made their economic adjustments in the cost of wattage use and the price of buying back power from private solar customers/providers. Michael gave me a comprehensive understanding of solar from start to finish. Design variables, means, and methods of installation based on existing roof composition and a breakdown of ownership vs variable leasing programs. Michael explained the pros & cons of each program, which has helped me make the best-informed decision in ownership vs leasing. Michael has also been very responsive, getting back to me with additional questions post-meeting. All in all, SunLux has the best pricing for my situation, and that is after shopping the 4 largest solar companies available to me. Thank you, Michael Valencia

Tesla refuse to move forward without a SCE bill for the new house that I barely moved in. I have solar since 2007 on every house I own, so I know exactly what I want. All other companies wanted to show me the savings and tell me what I need. I decided to give Sunlux a shot based on Perplexity’s recommendation. Talked to owner Mike, a nice, friendly guy the same day afternoon. Got my system how I wanted at a very reasonable price. Hopefully Sunlux can deliver a smooth install, since Mike said they use in-house installer, which is what I love to hear based on my previous experience with contracted out failing projects miserably. I will get this review updated. For now, I highly recommend Sunlux, don’t waste your time on the others’ with sales talk.

I am happy with the solar system I got through Sunlux. In October of 2025, I realized that the IRS solar credits were set to expire early at the end of the year due to the spending bill congress passed in July. I contacted 4 solar companies, and 3 said they could get the job done in time. Sunlux had the lowest price by $9,000 - $30,000. I liked that Mike Valencia is an owner, so I knew I was not working with a salesperson who might not be with me throughout the process. I purchased a 16 panel, 7.36KW, 2 Powerwall 3 system. From contract signing to Permission To Operate (PTO) took some time, but we got the system up and in service before December 31st. It did take almost 5 months from contract to PTO. Southern California Edison took 2 1/2 months to give us PTO. We did have some issues with communication at first. It turns out there was a key employee who was going through something. Sunlux hired an additional person to help. We then worked things out and communication has been great since. I noticed other reviews that remarked on communication. As far as I can see, that is resolved. I developed a good, friendly working relationship with Michael Valencia, Guillermo Santomauro, and Jessica Delgado. I also got along really well with the installers and technicians who came to my house. The installation and permit process did not go perfectly, but Sunlux took care of everything to my satisfaction, and to the satisfaction of my city (and we had a very particular inspector). If I saw something I did not like, Guillermo worked with me to make sure I was completely satisfied. Sunlux working with me to insure total satisfaction is why I gave them 5 stars. My safisfaction includes the very fair price, a good, safe system, and a company/people I feel confident with going forward. On my first bill reflecting a full billing cycle with solar, my Edison bill was only $10. I won't really know how well my system meets my needs until I have the air conditioning going full force during the summer. If needed, I will have a couple more panels and even another Powerwall added. For now my system produces far more power than I use. The only thing I don't like is having Tesla Powerwalls because Elon Musk's behavior and actions are contrary to my values. Sometimes compromises have to be made. They are good batteries. I feel confident recommending Sunlux, and urge others to consider them in their pursuit of Solar energy.

Delays, Unprofessional Conduct, and No Project Completion

SunLux led me to believe the installation would be completed by year-end so I could qualify for the 2025 tax credits. After signing in August, permits weren’t submitted until November, communication was poor, and the project stalled. During a phone call, their project manager became unprofessional and made threats stating my project could be intentionally delayed. Their delays made installation impossible and forced me to cancel. I continue to struggle to get responses and my deposit returned. I would not recommend this company.

Don't work with them. They will tell you your old roof is fine to install solar panels on. Then when it starts leaking under the solar panels, they won't fix it. Working on taking them to small claims court currently.

No customer service whatsoever

When thus cuando wants to sell you their system, they portrait themselves.as the best option.. once they get your business things change and to get a call could take literally forever. Not a very good experience with this company , watch out!!

Shane was sent to us by Sunlux to look at our solar because we had higher than usual electric bills. He looked at the system and discovered our air conditioning was malfunctioning. Shane was extremely professional and knowledgeable. He was also courteous and patient with our numerous questions. We are very grateful for his help.

Professional and capable solar installation company

SunLux did a great job with the solar panel planning and installation process. Their people were pleasant and capable. The system has just been turned on and is operational. It did take a few months to get final approval from SunPower who is our ultimate panel provider for service, however, SunLux did their part and hopefully, the number of panels installed will serve my family well going forward.

Yeah, I contacted Sunlux and signed a contract back in November 2022 Reason I discovered Sunlux is from the house whisperer Dean Sharp Although the process took quite a while, we finally got permission to operate today. From the original salesperson, Mike Valencia to the installers and finally the operations manager I have to give a shout out to Gabriel Benko who I firmly believe if it wasn’t for him, we would not be completed. Gabriel was instrumental in fighting constantly with SCE getting our final permission to operate. Gabriel responded to my emails always less than five minutes which is unbelievable! He is truly an asset to Sunlux! I am a real estate broker in our area and have a lot of clients that would be interested in solar, and/or battery backup systems and would highly recommend Sunlux! Especially if Gabriel would be somewhat involved as I know, my clients would be very well taken care of! Very well pleased

I just completed a solar system installation by Sunlux, and could not be more pleased. From my first meeting with Don, until the day it was turned on, things ran smoothly. I would like to commend our project manager, Shawna, who always answered my numerous emails promptly and professionally. She was adept at interacting with the HOA and the City, as well as SDG&E, which made things move along efficiently. I am most grateful to her. We are looking forward to many years of solar power with Sunlux.

UPDATE: 9/21/2023 Got solar installed through Sunlux with no issues and they even installed some consumption meters for me for free. Fast forward 6 years and my wife discovered a water stain on our ceiling. It's been a nightmare trying to deal with it and Sunlux has not helped. The wife discovered the issue on May 13th. I called them on the following Monday, May 15th. They couldn't find my information so I forwarded them my contract. They said they lost it during a data migration. They took down my information and called me back 2 weeks later only after I followed up with them regarding status. Two technicians came out on June 5th in the morning but WAS scheduled for the afternoon. I wasn't even notified, they just showed up at my door. They took our hose to the roof and started to look for the leak. They couldn't find any so they asked me to turn it up. I turned it to max which I think is 5 gallons per minute. They found a leak in one of my Ohagen vents and said that the leak was due to that vent and that they were not at fault. I went up to the attic where the other technician was and saw the leak with my own eyes but it leak was 15-20 feet away from where the ceiling stain was! I was speaking to Lorena saying that that leak is not the cause of the water damage. She said that it was and that I needed to hire a roofer. I asked her aren't you guys roofers? It says solar and roofer on your truck. So my wife took over the call and decided that we needed to hire our own roofer to find the source of the leak. To find the leak, the panels needed to be removed. Sunlux came out July 3rd to remove them. Our roofer came July 6th to find and fixed the leak that day. Sunlux came back out July 21st to reinstall the solar. For some reason they used one of the broken tiles I had lying around to replace another broken tile. I also noticed that there were 2 more broken tiles. The solar panels were put back but they look crooked. It doesn't affect productivity but that's not how it looked when they were taken off. And also the critter guard looks terrible as well. When we first got solar, they hired a company to install it and it looked great but now I think they are trying to install it themselves. I messaged Guillermo regarding these issues but have not heard anything other than that the critter guard clips are on backorder. The last I heard anything was on Aug 20th and as I write this review it's Sept 21st. At this point, I'm at a loss for words, I lost my trust and faith in Sunlux. They did take responsibility for the roof penertration leak although still felt very reluctant. Guillermo even came out to see the roofers fix the leak and still questioned how it could leak and when he left still said he needed to look at some pictures first. Sunlux did eventually take responsibility but the ordeal caused a lot of stress and anxiety. They did cut the check for the amount we had tonpay our roofer but the fact that they're not addressing my other issues is why I'm writing up this follow-up review. At this point, I probably rather not have them on my roof possibly breaking more tiles. I just hope that there aren't any broken tiles under the panels because I wasn't able to watch them put the panels back. But im guessing there is because I found some other broken tiles around the solar panels that they haven't said they will fix either

No power

My system was installed around 4 years ago. I upgraded and added 5 panels last year. Just had a $550 bill and a projected this month bill of another $500+ and after multiple emails, calls and service tickets over the past two weeks still no call or care to have someone come and look at it and fix it. They only seem to care about install and after that they just don't care.

Solar system lost 60% of it's generation in just 3 years. Sunlux has been completely unresponsive with support. I can't even get anyone to come out and look at my system.

Poor workmanship on my service panel installer said that the next guy would solve the issue issue not solved and non responsive after final inspection still no ability to monitor the system and no communication

Shawna constantly answered all our questions and provided us with all the information we requested and I have to add, did it with a smile. Shawna never acted like we were bothering her. I must’ve called 50 times with questions .The entire team at SUNLUX was very professional. I recommend Sunlux if you’re getting Solar.

Easy, Smooth and Problem Free

Excellent walk through on the process by the estimation team. The installation was less than a day, once permits from the city had come through and the crew were really nice, courteous and seemed to like my dog (she likes to supervise). Clean and well-done installation. I thought the engraved likeness of the house with the solar arrays that was installed on the panel was a nice touch! Berlyn was excellent in keeping us up to date on what was going on and getting all of the paperwork sorted out and the permits in order. Kudos to Berlyn! Thank You!

Your search for Solar company ends here and if you're going with solar make sure to get quoted by Mike Valencia and Your Project Manager must be Shawna Vargas. Shawna was tremendously great form beginning to end. She went above and beyond to get me enrolled in NEM 2.0. She even worked after office hours and on her vacation day to communicate with SCE constantly to complete my application. She's the best and highly recommended. I would also like to thank Installation team Lead Kurtiss Reed, Omar Ceja, Dave Perry and Alejandro Cabellos. Also Inspection team Felipe, Michael and Adrian was the Great and made sure everything is up to date and passed city's inspection. I wish I can give 10 stars to this Company and team members. Great Service!

Each team member that we worked with provided us with excellent service and follow up. There were significant delays with the city permitting (to be expected) but Shawna kept me informed each week that she was committed to pushing them along.

I have been researching going solar for a few years and just never pulled the trigger. I had decided a long time ago to go with Sunlux, for a few reasons but mainly because Don (gary) Lupo was very patient and willing to answer all my questions and concerns very clearly and honestly. I wish I would've gone forward earlier. I was really nervous to make this big investment but I was so very pleased how smooth this whole process was. it was a pleasure to work through this process with this team. Berlyn was so amazing with her proffesional and couteous customer service, at first I thought her emails were canned responses until i actually asked her something and her response was immediate, that goes along way with me! I also expected major delays and made sure I packed my patience because I came in right before the deadline of NEM 2. To my surprise the process went way faster and way smoother than expected and Berlyn was very efficient with her weekly communications and I was informed on what to expect at every step. I will gladly refer this company, it has really been a pleasure working with the whole team !!!
