Unknowledgeable and unresponsive service post install

Installed in 2020. The same circuit has failed the last two summers in a row. Takes them 10 days or more to get out to the house, and then they just replace it, a band-aid till next year, though I insist there is a deeper underlying issue. Do not recommend.

Terrible experience

They made a proposal based on drone views and lidar readings of my roof, without performing any actual physical inspection and dismissed my concerns about the viability of an installation on my particular roof type, but reassured me there were no issues. Then they sent me a final design for approval that had the wrong specifications for my roof (e.g., for TPO although I told them several times my membrane is PVC, and with a cover board when I told them multiple times there is none). Ultimately, when I didn't approve the design because of the mistakes and insisted they account for my actual roof composition, the engineers determined that the only kind of installation they do (stack) is too risky and poses a safety hazard on my roof given the lack of cover board and heat welded membrane. What a waste of time for something they could have figured out (had they paid attention) at the outset. Plus, they cut a hole in my ceiling to look for where the rafters were located and didn't patch it up for a month and a half. Totally incompetent.

Still waiting for a resolution

My experience with this company has been very dissapointing

My solar system developed a technical issue during my first year of leasing, and the earliest service appointment was nearly two months away. After contacting my sales representative, I was able to secure an earlier visit, but the repair required a follow-up appointment that wasn't scheduled until July—another two-month wait. As a result, I do not have a clear understanding of the issue with my system. Every interaction with customer service has resulted in the same response: they're backed up, and I'll have to wait. I understand that equipment failures and scheduling delays can happen, but leaving customers without answers or a resolution for months is unacceptable. If you're considering Solar Energy World, I strongly recommend evaluating their post-installation service and support responsiveness before making a decision.

Becareful- timeline and Specification of panels and invertor

My contract singed in end of Oct 2025 and till date my solar panel did not start. Very slow in processing for solar energy world and they are working on their on pace and don't understand priority on customer need. During signing of the contract all specification about panel and invertor was discussed, but during installation they came with different panel. Upon discussion they inform that leasing company requested to update and different panel was installed. Further the cost of panel installed was obvious around 10-12K less but ultimately monthly installment remain same. Ultimately, they increase their profit with low cost panel but no benefit to end user. Only care about business, not customer.

Dysfunctional and surprisingly incompetent

To their credit, they got my system installed an operational in a somewhat reasonable time line. hooray Otherwise this process has been littered with frustration after frustration, mistake after mistake, lapse in communication after lapse in communication, and on and on. Solar Energy World -- owned by Comcast -- talks the talk but they can't walk the walk. They do not have their sh*t together. They have demonstrable problems throughout their organization in being able to plan, coordinate, execute, and communicate. And their service team? Who is supposed to help you when there's a problem? They are egregiously slow. They are often unhelpful. They don't seem to want to help you. And really don't seem like they want to talk to you about anything. Dealing with SEW has really been an unpleasant, draining, and unnecessarily prolonged experience. Easily the worst customer service I've ever had to endure in my life. I cannot recommend them to anyone. Lastly, let me add this: you'll see in a lot of their responses to bad reviews something like "thanks for bringing this to our attention, please email info@solarenergyworld so we can help you." I already did that months ago and they didn't do a single solitary thing in response.

I strongly recommend avoiding Solar Energy World based on my experience. From the start, the installation process was careless and caused multiple issues. Their crew damaged our ceiling and sprinkler head while working in the attic, left paint mismatched after repairs, and tracked dirt/mulch through the house despite being asked to use protective coverings. We also had to clean up screws, bolts, and metal debris left around our driveway ourselves. More seriously, the installation led to ongoing roof damage, with materials and debris continuing to fall off our roof and even onto our neighbor’s property—creating both safety and liability concerns. Despite repeatedly following up since February, the roof repair was never properly addressed. On March 19, we were given a confirmed appointment for repairs on March 25 (8–9 AM). No one showed up. I followed up immediately and multiple times after that with no resolution. At one point, their crew was working at our neighbor’s house, but told us they were not scheduled to do any work at ours. Weeks later, we were told the job had been handed to a subcontractor and that “they should have reached out”—but no one ever did. This has been a consistent pattern: missed appointments, poor workmanship, lack of coordination, no communication, and zero accountability. After months of delays and broken promises, we are now forced to hire our own contractor and send them the bill. If you value your time, money, and peace of mind—stay away from this company.

Can’t Deliver on Promises.

We placed an order for solar panels and dual battery installation in July with a promise from their salesman that their competitors could not match. He promised they had the equipment in their inventory and sufficient staff that they could guarantee installation and operational by the end of the year to take advantage of the expiring solar tax credits. Since then we have only received notes to be patient. First, yes they would get it down before the end of the year. Then, notice that everything ready for install but they are prioritizing customers who do not have batteries. That was in early December. Now, the salesman is telling us they have no updates except it will now be another 45 or more days before they do the install. Meanwhile, we have paid enormous electric bills for the winter. Moral of the story? Do not sign a contract that does not bind them to an install date. I can only hope their product is better than their customer service and their ability to deliver in their promises.

Response from Solar Energy World

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re truly sorry for the frustration and inconvenience this situation has caused, especially given the importance of timing around installation and tax credit eligibility. We understand how disappointing delays can be, particularly when expectations were set differently during the sales process. While installation timelines can sometimes be impacted by factors such as supply availability, permitting, or scheduling complexities—especially for battery systems—that does not lessen how this experience has affected you. Your feedback about communication and timeline clarity is important to us and will be shared internally so we can continue to improve. We would very much appreciate the opportunity to review your specific project and see how we can further assist. The absolute worst company to communicate with

System was installed after weeks of trying to get questions answered about submitted permit plan that was incorrect. Never got an answer. The scheduler for installation answered the question although not his job. System installed and crew was professional. Did good work except one small mishap knocking hole in the ceiling. One of the Powerwall 3 was DOA. I have been trying for weeks to get an answer on when the system would be functional. I emailed, sent messages on the portal, spoke with salesman never got an answer. I offered to pay solar panel portion of bill, but not the battery portion because 50% does not work. They keep invoicing me, saying its past due. No one will answer and give updates. Finally talked to National service line. Hopefully something will happen. The Florida division does not answer any communication.

*I'm in Virginia, but it's the Laurel, Maryland team we've been dealing with, as far as I know.* Sales team: Five stars. Permitting team: Five stars. Installation team and general project management: Zero stars. No organization, no warning before visits, no following instructions about when to show up, understaffed and overworked teams without the capabilities to do the job well and on time. First installation crew left trash everywhere, sloppy metal cuts on the scratched up roof skirt, couldn't figure out how to get a ground stake in, so they broke it off and left it, couldn't finish before dark, and there are still random shingles blowing off my roof three weeks later. Second installation crew was one electrician sent to follow up on the above issues, not enough to properly finish the job, left a a couple feet of broken ground stake buried in the yard, and showed up with no notice in the first place, massively disrupting our week. I'm left with a bitter taste on a huge long-term investment, with no escalation points provided by the team, so I'm leaving reviews to see what happens when customer service sees them.

Dissappointed

I am extremely disappointed with the service and lack of professionalism from Solar Energy World. The installation crew left a mess in our home, showing a complete lack of respect for our property. To make matters worse, Dawson Baus told me the crew would be coming on July 2, but no one showed up and I received no communication or apology — only Jairo Valderrama reached out later to reschedule for July 7 at 8:00 AM. Yet again, no one came, no one called, and I was left waiting. I even texted Emily Connel for an update and never received a response. To top it all off, the inspection is scheduled for July 9, and nothing is completed. This company seriously lacks communication, punctuality, and respect for customers' time. Shoddy work

Originally everything was fine. We had to have the panels removed for a roof replacement. Since then we have had 2 leaks in a brand new (less than 6 years) old roof (first time less than a year which they argued about but did repair the leak and the ceiling below). Now I'm being told that my installation warranty has expired and for $149/hour they would come look at it. I asked how long this warranty, that I was never told about, was in effect but I can't even get someone to respond to my emails. My roofer advised that he believes that the improper installation caused many of the original issues but unfortunately we can't prove it. I will NEVER recommend this company to anyone else as I have done in the past. I know of at least one person who purchased from them based on my recommendation.

any maintenance is ignored after install

Before install, I definitely felt they were very pushy and changed what I was told initially two to three times which was really frustrating because I thought I understood everything and then they would alter something, and I can't say all of it was truly justified. They are also located in Maryland and take Virginia residents yet complain about the traffic and the drive. The scheduler complained, the employees complained, everyone seems to complain about it and I don't understand why you would have a company everyone based in one spot but accept customers elsewhere and complain to the customer about the travel. That is not my fault and not my concern... I should not be bearing the burden of feeling guilty about it but they lay it in thick. Days before install I asked over email all what they needed access to so I could ensure everything was easy as my house is older and things like the utility room are cramped as I use them for storage. I was told just the attic, the roof, and the hot water heater. I cleaned out the entire area around the hot water heater and moved it into a nearby room trusting that there was no reason they needed to have access to the water shut off since they mentioned nothing of it. WithOUT my permission, they opened that room door, moved a bunch of stuff, broke things!!, and closed the door before they left without ever telling me that they went in there. When I went to move everything back and found out, I contacted them and was ignored.  A bit after install, I noticed there was a bunch of leaves building up in their critter guard. I contacted them and they sent a person out who confirmed that it was improperly installed. They tried to fix it the best they could and said if I have any further problems to let them know. Months go by and it's building up again so I contact again, this time I am told that I will be charged a service fee if it is not their fault. I said I can't afford the service fee and they need to come fix it, it's been silenced since then and the requests for reviewing them that were sent at LEAST every 3 weeks also stopped. Hopefully this doesn't ruin my new roof!!  I'm supposed to have guaranteed maintenance on this system and I'm being ignored so there's no way in good faith I'd recommend this company. Nothing is as they claim during the first meeting and they don't stand behind their work either.

I regret purchasing through them

I originally had given them a 5 star for their installation process. But now I majorly regret having them install my solar panels. I feel like they jipped me. They pressured me to purchase from them and to do it ASAP because they said solar prices weren't going down and that the NEM policies for 1-1 net metering was going away very soon. Well, it's still around and I've LITERALLY found quotes for 3-4k cheaper from other reputable companies. I'm in NOVA so maybe that affects things because they're in Maryland but IDK if I would ever recommend them now.

Worst experience of my life

All I can say is do not do business with this company! This company took over 6 months to install my solar. They lied to me the whole time about permitting and timelines, broke multiple electrical components of my brand new circuit breaker and then charged me to fix it, and worst of all took money from me to upgrade my electric panel and then refused to perform the service and have not refunded my money. They took nearly $1,000 from me and then refused to refund it all back after rejecting the service. The install took so long that now i am paying for my large energy bills on top of my loan bill since they did not complete the permitting and utility start on time. They have gaslighted and bullied me through the whole process and refused to take responsibility for their mistakes or refund me what I paid.

Response from Solar Energy World

Ms. Thomas, we take every complaint very seriously. I have reviewed your job notes and have a clear understanding of the situation. It is important to state, when we enter into a contract with a customer, we view it as a 25+ year relationship. Our pledge, our warranty, state we will be there for you to repair or replace any components that fail or repair any issues of workmanship. We have been successful at keeping this pledge, it is illustrated in our Better Business Bureau A+ rating, and thousands of 5-Star reviews across all of the most popular review sites. With respect to your job, I’d like to clear up some discrepancies in your review. We collected $850, not $1,000, to upgrade your electrical panel. When it was determined the upgrade was not needed, we agreed to refund the money in full. At final inspection, our solar installation passed, but the electrical inspector determined a permit was never pulled for the panel you installed prior to getting solar. A delay was caused when you decided to pull the permit for the panel installation and have another company install the parts needed to pass the inspection. You changed your mind and asked us to do the work. We completed the required repair and charged you $325. This amount was deducted from the refund amount of $850. A check was mailed for $525, which you received and cashed. The three main parties from Solar Energy World involved in this process, your solar analyst, Alex; the head of installation, Santos; and Brent, the VP of Sales, have a track record of happy customers because of very successful installations and communication. They have received many 5-star reviews from these customers. Alex, Santos and Brent explained how they worked diligently to resolve your issues. I reached out to you, to hear from you directly, but you never replied to my texts or took my calls. I wish you would have given me a few minutes so we could have had an informative conversation and agreed upon a solution to help your situation. I welcome a chance to talk if you change your mind. Finally, I’d like to report that your system to date, has produced 25% more electricity than the amount that we initially estimated. We are here for you if you ever need us.

B. in May 2018, an employee of SEW, many things not made clear, specifically, the difference between SEW and Sunrun. There is not a class action suit in California against SEW, however, there is one against Sunrun. I was told my electric bill would be $98.06 for 20 years. My first month I paid $98.06. I also paid $675.00 to my power company, $300 electric hook up for new electric dryer. I was informed by the power company that I would still be getting bills from them PLUS from Sunrun. SEW made a 3 way call with Sunrun and finally fixed Sunrun's error concerning improper billing. This, after threatening to file a criminal complaint for theft when Sunrun sent emails indicating they were taking more then the agreed amount. Regardless of SEW's efforts, I consider this the worst decision I have ever made!

Meh

There was nothing exceptional with the service or installation. They had initially erected the ground array, which looked nice, but were required to lower it per county inspector, resulting in a sloppy looking ground array. I had to complain about their workmanship - the installer attempted to use duck tape on a beam endcap. I didn’t pay 60k for duck tape. They remediated the duck tape. Then the ceiling in the master bed room began leaking. After tearing the ceiling apart to find the source of the leak, I found excess holes we’re drilled near the roof array mount that weren’t patched. They remediated the roof leak. The solar monitoring app seemed to take forever to update. Turns out they default to using the GSM module in the inverters which only send data every four hours. Why would a paying customer wait 4 hours to see what the hell the system is producing? After some research, running Ethernet cables from my network switch to the inverters resulted in updates every 15 minutes.
