Great Honest Salesman

I didn’t know shit about Solar until Robert Sherman. Rob showed up prepared to make SEW proud. He was very HONEST about the system the pricing and install. I would recommend calling Rob for any Solar needs as I have passed his number to many people. I don’t have time to be jerked around or to sit with any other company. After meeting Rob and his up front to the point reality and knowledge of the benefits of Solar I was sold. I has a few issues with the install and Rob went above and beyond to make sure ALL the issues were resolved quickly. I now am very happy with the system that Rob designed. I have also been very pleased with Rob following up not just sell and run. I would recommend SEW if you call Robert Sherman 240-478-7947 he will make sure the customer comes first and you will be 110% Happy.

Happy with our solar installation

We have had our solar panels for several months now, and they are working perfectly. The installation team did an excellent job. The only problem we had was that although the solar panels were installed in December 2024, they forgot to have the crew come the same day to put in the conduit from the garage (where the panels were installed) to our house where the electricity panel is located. That work was not done until January, which means we lost out on claiming the federal tax credit until 2026. We hope we will still get the credit. The Trump Administration has dealt a heavy blow to the solar industry. All of us who care about the environment should vote against Trump whenever possible.

Editing the review as the company and VP has reached out and fixed everything. Review would have been a full 5 stars if no previous issues but they did rectify everything and I am happy so far. The issue was due to an employee having a long leave of absence and then my project seeming to have slipped through the cracks. Would recommend company and will refer to others who are thinking of installing solar.

Have had a great experience

Started working with Carson Landis back in Nov 22 about setting up our solar unit. We own a manufactured home so the panels could not be placed on the roof, so we decided to go with a ground mount. We went back and forth a few times about the placement of the panels in the back yard but came to a great location. Carson was very responsive to any questions I asked and always got back to me in a very timely manor. The unit is up and we are waiting on some final things but I am very excited for it to start working and getting the very low electric bills.

Overall, a great experience!

Buying the system proved to be a lot easier on our nerves than we thought it would be. Making the decision to go solar definitely pushed our comfort level to start out with, but once we got matched up with Solar Energy World through our state's Solarize Virginia program, things went pretty smoothly. Solar Energy World handles all the government paperwork, and that's a definite plus. As with any significant home project, applying for all the various permits can get complicated and it's much easier and quicker to let the pros take care of it. We felt the install went very well. Solar Energy World has a very professional install team and we were comfortable with giving them access to where they needed to be. Visually, the work looks good and they did a good job making external conduit as unobtrusive as possible. They also did a great cleanup job! We're still waiting for county inspection and for the power company to install our new electric meter before we can activate the panels. The inspection is scheduled for next week which is only three weeks after install, so no complaints there. The install team really seemed to have its act together, so we're not expecting any problems with the inspection. A neighbor got their solar system through Solar Energy World well over a year ago and they assured us that Solar Energy World continues to provide them with good post-installation support. I'm sure we can expect the same.

Our overall experience was good. We were not provided with the panels we initially signed up for and the reason for that I don’t understand. I was told it had something to do with the voltage and our house couldn’t handle it. The time frame took longer to install than mentioned, and getting the final approval to turn on also took quite a bit, however that is more of a utility issue. The installation itself, however, was a breeze. They said it would take about three days and they were right on point. I have to give props to our sales person, Alex. I have interviewed numerous sales people from different companies. In many instances the sales person was very pushy and one of them I had to kick out of our house. Alex was very informative and knowledgeable, and you could tell he didn’t just want to make a quick buck. He let us take our time and would follow up maybe once every week or two.

Solar Energy World's representative, Paul Skorochod was incredibly informative and attentive to all my concerns and questions. He is very knowledgeable about both the financial (selling SRECS, etc.) and the technical aspects of the process. The office staff was also very organized, pleasant, and flexible. The team which came to install the panels on my roof were friendly, did their work thoroughly, finished one day earlier than originally planned, and cleaned up after themselves. I highly recommend them all. Paul’s customer service, especially, was really great. Take good care everyone and good luck to those of you launching solar projects!

Professional, Family

I enjoyed all of the people from Solar Energy World. I recommend them to everyone I know. I only wished that they would have done my roof themselves instead of contracting it out.

Outstanding service. I would recommend. All paperwork was thoroughly explained, completed and submitted by Solar Energy World (S.E.W). The only problem I have is the app. The app takes upward of 3+ hours to update.

Installation was painless although it took longer than expected when the wrong panels were shipped. The clean-up was good. Look forward to longer days since the system was turned on in January 2018.

Almost Perfect

SE World carried us through the process with flying colors--until activation. There was no checking with me after BGE finished their installation to see that activation had, in fact, occurred. As it turns out, I was told--by the BGE guy that to activate all I had to do was throw the inside switch. This was half true. I simple visit to the outside would have shown me that there was an obvious on switch there, and other activation indicators. I was not apprised of this nor did anyone check back with me to see if activation was OK. I found out by going on line that I was not active. From there it was a matter of a couple of days. I would still recommend this company and hope this will help them and others to cross that final 't'.

Love my solar system. Great investment and good for the environment. From sale to setup and getting on line was great and a friendly company. Great people. Not a fan of seeing the rail end sticking out. It look to industrial for residential us.

Good Decision

As the solar panels were not producing until January, 2017, it is a bit premature to know exactly how our bills will be affected in the long run, but thus far, it has been a good decision. I have not seen a $162 electric bill in years. I expect this to continue.

Good install; only minor issues

Solar energy world (SEW) installed our 7.28 kW system a few months ago. They did everything they said they would do. The salesman, Dave, was great. He was accessible by email and was reasonably responsive. I would recommend them. I only had a few minor issues: 1. I found a few mistakes and discrepancies in their engineering diagrams as compared to what was actually installed on my house. Likewise, there were a few errors in the permitting documents. Most of these were trivial, however, and none of them affected my system status. 2. I found that although SEW was responsive to my inquiries, they were much, much more responsive before I signed the contract. And, after I had paid, and there were only minor issues to fix/paper work to be submitted, the responsiveness fell off again. I am not saying that they weren't responsive, but they were definitely less responsive and I had to work harder to get their attention. Eventually, they got everything squared away. 3. Before I signed the contract they had me fill out a sales experience survey that then promised me a $100 gift card if I continued on to sign with them. After my system was installed and they were paid, I asked where the gift card was. First, they said they weren't going to give it to me because I got some sort of special price. When I complained that a caveat or limitation on the offer was never issued, they promised me that they would give me the gift card after all. First they said they would drop it off when they dropped off my warranty information booklet. But, at that meeting, they told me they didn't have it and that they would mail it to me. That was 3 months ago and still no gift card. I am pretty sure I am never going to see the promised gift card. As it is only $100, it is not a huge deal. But, I expect them to make good on their word, especially as it was marketed as a signing incentive. It seems they will say a lot of things in order to get you to sign. In my experience, most of these solar panel companies are charlatans. They act like used car salesmen. We had some bad experiences with a few who came to give us quotes. SEW was the least sketchy of the bunch and was the most knowledgeable about local laws, ordinances, codes and engineering. Overall, I would say it was a positive experience. My system is installed and is working and all the paperwork is taken care of. So, there is not much I could complain about.

Pretty smooth installation

The financing option was very easy and a big selling point. The installation went pretty smoothly, except for the way the conduits were installed across the side of my house, which was fixed satisfactorily when I complained about it, altho why it was done that way in the first place, I don't understand. The overall package was the best of the businesses I interviewed and I interviewed at least 7 or 8 businesses. And so far things seem to be working fine. However, it's only been about a week since the project was finished.

Great experience

We had a very good experience with Solar Energy World. They worked around our extended schedule, took care of all the grunt work (dealing with the County, the HOA, and Electric company) and were very professional throughout the process. Thanks S.E.W.!

Overall Happy

Our salesman, Jay, was very knowledgeable and helpful. The process between us signing and when they were installed took longer than originally expected and I would have liked more communication during the wait time. The installation went great and the installers were very nice and thorough. We had an issue with our system not communicating with the app. There was multiple attempts to send someone out to look at the system and they would either cancel or not show up. That was frustrating and disappointing but now the system for the most part stays connected. We are still generating solar when it is not connected, we just may not have up to date info on the app. After midnight it always catches up.

I'd like to rate Solar Energy World as Excellent - because they certainly are thorough. However, even though the installation on the front of the house was per design, it didn't turn out as we had hoped - is really rather ugly. The installation for the back of the house is not as originally planned, but is fine. We have a promise to come and move one panel on the front, and paint the visible aluminum black. Some of the paint has been applied; the front panel could not be moved at the time because the incorrect materiel was on the truck. We would like to have some idea as to when the job will be complete, and do understand that Solar Energy World is busy. The system is up and running, no matter how it looks, and is producing more than we had expected.

Ground and Roof Mount Panels

Solar Energy World did an excellent job on the solar panel project at our house. They were professional and thorough. As our project involved both roof and ground mount arrays, it was a complicated project. Everyone who worked on it was helpful and did a professional job. The system has been up and operating for about a month and is performing slightly above the estimates provided by Solar Energy World. I have no problem recommending their work. My only negative comment is that they could have done a better job communicating about what was going on. Our timeline was stretched as work was delayed by winter weather, so that the entire process from contract to turning the system on was over six months. They always responded promptly to my inquiries, but I always had to call them rather than receiving regular updates. Otherwise, it was a job well done.

Still too early to tell......but optimistic!

Just a few comments- Overall I was very impressed with our Solar project. However it's still too early to tell what the payback will be. If you purchase the system as we did with a loan, be prepared to pay the loan payment as well as your normal electric bill for a while. It takes literally many months to get your system registered, Net Meter installed, and SREC Generation going. We've been generating since Oct 2014 and have seen one SREC check and it's March 2015. I know this is not the installers fault but just make note. Also if you are on a budget with electric company you will not see very little change in your electric bill for a year until it equalizes. We got off the budget after we realized this. Our system seems to be performing as well as promised if not a little better so we are optimistic we will save some money in the long run. The reason I'm dinging SEW on a couple small things is I didn't care for the conduit all over the side of the house. Although it's VERY neat, it could have been done a little differently and hidden much better. Also I have a couple panels that are not straight and I've asked them to come back to straighten them- nothing yet. It's been 6 months. Lastly I was told I would get a follow-up visit from them to review the system after it was installed. 6 Months later and haven't heard from them. I would definitely still recommend these guys though- they did a great job and got it all done in a short period of time and took care of all the paperwork, etc. They just need a little follow up with the customer after the job is complete.
