Excellent company to work with

In 2017 I was exploring the possibility of adding solar panels to our house. I contacted Renu Energy Solutions because of their reputation. They were responsive, quick, friendly, and analytic in their approach. I needed some trees near the house taken down anyway, and they needed to come down if solar panels went up. I also needed a new roof. Renu bundled all three projects together to save me time, coordination, and money. Everything was handled professionally. The panels have not needed any work since. I enjoy the savings on my electric bill that the two sets of panels provide.

True professionals from start to finish

I was completely satisfied with Renu Energy Solutions. From the salesperson, the entire operations team and the crews who did the electrical and panel install, they were all professional, knowledgeable and extremely helpful every step of the way. I especially like the fact that they are all company employees, no outside contractors. Quality work, through and through. I highly recommend this company.

I hoped for more…

They were incredibly responsive when it came to making the big money on the install. It’s very lackluster after that. They damaged my home during the install. I fixed the water leak and the cracked cap shingles on the roof. I emailed them explaining what happened. I called it a teachable moment and asked them to talk to the install crew about how this could have been prevented. I never go a reply. I called and spoke to someone about my email and they promised to pass along my message. Never heard a word. Two times my system has failed and needed repair. Each time the repair process took over 30 days. Never because of parts, they just always seem overwhelmed in the service department. To be fair, the repair prices were very reasonable.

Best Solar company by far

I shopped around with 5 different companies. Renee was the best in terms of covering questions, having the best materials and equipment and their pricing was great. The install went perfectly and we’ve been saving ever since. Highly recommend Renew Energy!

Bait and switch

When we got a quote for solar we made it clear that we did not want our power bill to be more than we were currently paying, because if it wasn’t going to save any money then what was the point after all. I understand that there is a cost with the panels but if we are generating our own power then our actual energy costs should be minimal or nonexistent. When the Renu rep came to the house to discuss the options (because there are several ways you can use the panels), he explained that some power companies will allow you to stay on their grid for a “facility fee” of $3.00/ kWp/month. For our home our system is 8.03 kWp, so I was thinking ok not too bad, roughly $24-$25/ month to stay on the grid and be able to still pull off the grid if we need to. This option was in leu of being strictly off the grid with batteries. The way it was explained is that we would sell our power we made to the power company (Energy United) for the same rate we would buy back the power we used. In essence if we made more than we used, it would go back as a credit on our account. This is how it was explained to us. We had this option or we could get the battery packs and disconnect from the grid. For us, this sounded like the best option. We agreed and actually had a second house installed with panels as well. It did take a while (like 3 months or so) to get all the paperwork and approvals before they actually scheduled an install date. The install was quick. They did both houses on the same day (one is across the road from the other) and were done shortly after lunch. It then took another month or so before we got the okay to actually activate the panels. (This was apparently due to something on Energy United’s end). When we finally got our first bill after activating the panels, it was a lot higher than we expected. It did not show where we had been given a credit for what we had made but there was that new facility charge. When I contacted Renu they said it was an Energy United problem. I spoke with the Energy United rep and they said they have 2 different options for solar with them (this had not been explained). The scenario I was sold on by the Renu rep was not what they signed me up for. I had never even been told about this other option. I was able to get Energy United to switch me to the option I had initially agreed to, but was told I could only change it once. So, the next bill comes after the corrections, and now there are all these extra fees. I am now being charged not only the “facility charge”, but also a “standby charge”. These fees for one property are $56.20 every month, regardless. The. There is tax and a renewable energy mandate. Before solar my power bills were usually around $70-$80 or less in the spring and fall and $130 a month in the summer (costs more to cool). Now, they also advertise a 26% tax credit and sell it like you’ll be getting 26% back of the purchase price in tax refund. They even discount the payments for 18 months to allow you to get that tax money back. You can then apply that to the loan to keep the payments the same or keep it and the payments go up. Well, you do not get 26% tax credit on solar. That is a flat out lie. We got like $1,300 credit for this system, which costs about $30,000 (without batteries!). I am now paying 2-3 times more with solar than I would if I had just stayed on the grid. I have even reached back out to Renu to see about adding the battery packs and getting off of Energy United’s grid (because if I’m going to be paying that much I might as well apply it to payments that may one day be paid off). I cannot get anyone to talk with me about just adding packs. They keep calling me to discuss adding a solar power system even after I’ve explained that I have ready been duped into but not one but TWO systems from them already. I was just looking at my power bill from this time last year with solar and even though I generated $65.97 worth of power and only used $24.13 worth, I still had to pay an additional $25.98 thanks to the fees Energy United added on. I very much was hoping this would be an economical and sustainable energy source, but it is not. Please make sure you contact the power company you are with first before you agree to staying on the grid. Do NOT rely on a Renu Energy representative to give you all the facts and details. If you’re power bill is <$150/ month on average, you are better off to stay where you are. Solar is NOT for you. At least not now anyways.

We had a good experience with the first visit with Cooper. Then the person who came out to look at the roof trusses was also good. Install crew very good too. Then it went downhill fast dealing with Calli. I was asked to sign the HOA application and I did. Then I get a call from the HOA for the $5000 security deposit. I gave them the check to start the process and save time. Then Calli said that I had to wait for the engineer packet for the county inspector to review. (Two weeks lost.) The inspector said he did not need to see it or go into the attic to inspect anything. I asked that the conduit from the soffit to the disconnect box needs to be covered. Calli said the inspector needs to see it. Wrong again. On Oct 19th got a text that the week of Nov 7 was the earliest opening to finish up. Well, that week came and gone - no calls. Then on the next date we had no one showed up or called again, I actually went out and spent $65 on needed materials to move this along. That didn't help so I covered the lower half section of the pipe waiting for someone to show up. Finally on Jan 25, 2023 the job was complete. So I will give everyone 5 stars except for Calli. Also we had to ask Calli 3 times to get the app for our phone to monitor the production and usage.

Outstanding Performance

Renu’s staff was outstanding from start to finish for our 42 (10kW) roof-top solar panels. Responsiveness and execution were excellent, including questions that I had following installation and connection to the grid. I fully recommend Renu to anyone considering a solar energy system. Excellent Company, Employees and Experience

I am extremely happy with my experience with Renu. This is a fairly complicated project, and Renu made it easy from beginning to end. I started the process of purchasing solar and two Tesla PowerWalls in March of 2022, the 25 solar panels were installed over a two day period at the end of May, and we finally received approval from Duke to energize the solar system in early July. The PowerWalls were installed over one day in the beginning of October(there is quite a long wait time for those right now - that has nothing to do with Renu). The overall installation is clean and professional looking, and they listened to my questions and requests regarding routing of conduit and placement of equipment, and did everything possible to make me happy. They handled all of the permitting, inspections, and coordinations with Duke, while keeping me in the loop the entire time. The first thing that made Renu different was the sales process - they were not pushy. Instead of trying to push me into whatever configuration and loan they decided was right for me, they started by asking “What do you want to achieve with solar?” Every other installer I spoke with were mainly interested in throwing just enough panels on my roof to cover my current usage and getting me into a 25 year loan, and then maybe giving me more attic insulation, or a “free” Nest thermostat. I even had a salesperson tell me(regarding batteries) “oh you don’t want or need those, we’ll just put a natural gas generator next to your house, it will be cheaper and better”. Renu listened to me, geeked out with me, and then worked WITH me to design a system that does exactly what I want. They were extremely communicative through the entire process - their project managers are second to none in my opinion and other industries could take a lesson from them. I was in near constant contact via email and text message with their team over the entire 7 month process, and I enjoyed talking with them. Every employee I dealt with seemed to love their job and the field of renewable energy. From the sales people and project managers, to designers electricians and installers on the roof - every single person seemed to love what they do, and loved where they work - many of them had worked there for several years, which to me says something about the company. Also very important - they did not contract out any of the work to sub contractors - everyone I dealt with worked FOR Renu. Finally - the system itself works. I have not paid Duke for electricity since July 2022 - we produce roughly twice what we consume. Additionally, the two PowerWalls can power our home for over 24 hours, including air conditioning - on a sunny day they are fully charged by noon. Your experience may vary of course, but I can tell you that it can and does work! If you are considering going with solar, there are not many companies like Renu(trust me, I spoke with six others). Don’t waste your time or money talking to anyone else - you will be happy with Renu.

Everyone I dealt with from start to finish was very knowledgeable, thorough and responsive. They sized my system exactly right and helped navigate and apply for all rebates and tax breaks.

Great Service

Great service, great simple process, no BS. After geting quotes from multiple companies, and sitting through some painful high pressure sales meetings, Jeremy from Renu presented a simple clear proposal, with 2 simple payment options, that didn't need a PhD in finance to decipher. The fact that it was 40% cheaper than 2 of the proposals I received was a huge bonus. They used quality panels (I did a lot of research), and their warranty was the best I found. Their communication was excellent, and the installation was quick and painless. Friendly and knowledgeable staff from start to finish. 2 years later, I still recommend them regularly.

What impressed me the most was the friendliness and professionalism of every person I encountered thru the process- and they delivered. I had a lot of detailed questions about the technical aspects and they always found the right person.

BEWARE! BEWARE!BEWARE!

They are a scam. They haven't completed our project in the last 2 years. They promised great things which never happened. After installing solar system, they didn't turn it on for 2 months, And only came to the site after we followed up, because everything was fine from their end. Even today, their app shows that it delivers a specific amount to the electric company but electric company only receives half of it. Nobody is able to answer this or clarify this or have no means or technicians/engineers who can help with the problem. Me and my husband are tired of writing hundreds of email and nobody replies back. I even called the CEO but he of course didn't care as he has got my money.

Was a pleasure to work with Renu. Their team does excellent work and was very thorough in making sure everything was completed correctly and in a timely fashion.

Transparent process

Had a couple minor hiccups but they sent someone out on a Saturday and they committed to continually communicate and made it clear customer service is a priority. Issues happen and I think the problem was wifi interference at my home but they handled this professionally and quickly. At 99~100% offset so happy with the company and the purchase.

We had a great experience installing solar with Renu. Excellent communication before, during, and after the install including help applying for the state rebate lottery. I really appreciated that they let us do research and go through the process on our timeframe - they weren't super pushy and didn't try to upsell us. Professional and Thorough

We met with 3 solar panel companies for estimates and felt that Renu was the most open and upfront about solar production and energy costs/savings. There was no pressure during the process to choose Renu. Our questions were answered quickly and thoroughly to our satisfaction. Adding solar panels is more complicated than I realized involving multiple services - Renu handled all the details, keeping us informed throughout. The installation was neatly and professionally done, passing all inspections.

Renu Energy Solutions are rock stars. Yes, they sell great products and do solid install work, but it's the soft skills that really make them shine...regular communication, clear guidance through the process, on-time for appointments...they just make you feel like you matter!

Tesla Solar and powerwall

I’ll start by saying I love my Tesla solar panels and powerwall. The quality of the installation that Renu did was fantastic. …but there were a few shortcomings that kept this from being a 5 star review. Starting with the negotiations. When comparing prices for going solar, Renu initially came in way lower when talking with one of their sales managers. After I decided to pull the trigger with them, I found out the price I received was actually for Panasonic panels instead of Tesla, not sure if he switch the battery as well. I immediately called him and said, this isn’t what was discussed. After he failed to talk me into the Panasonic panels, the price increased of course. Much closer to the competitors, price thought it came down a little after he told me I couldn’t have the 20 panels I wanted because the powerwall wouldn’t be able to handle 20, only 19. I’m thinking that was not accurate as other companies did not have the same concerns. The next issue was with how long the wait to get things started. I took the first available appointment for a survey and it was in May after signing the contract in March. So 50% cash down on the night I signed a contract but two month wait for a site survey. Then another few weeks before the solar was installed. Then when the Duke Energy Interconnection Agreement was signed, we immediately new it was not going to go though because the primary account member needed to sign it, not a spouse who is on the account. When we brought this up to the Operations Supervisor, and asked if she could send us another to sign, she said to wait and see if it was denied. It takes Duke 10 business days to review and decide. So after a denial, the new agreement was signed by the primary account holder and 10 more days before the agreement was approved. Then you wait for Duke to update the meter before you can use the solar. So 11 weeks to get the solar panels active when taking the first available appointments. Not the 6-8 weeks I was told during the sales process. I knew the powerwall installation would happen later, which finally came at the end of October. The installation crew did a great job putting it in. The only hiccup came when the building inspector came and the paperwork was not left for the inspection. So we had to wait nearly a week to use it by the time the inspection happened. Overall, the work performed was great. Everyone that actually did physical work at the house were professional and pleasant, I couldn’t ask for a better crew. Those who work through phone and email only drag down the rating.
