Lousy Customer Service from Ion Solar subcontractor for Palmetto

I can honestly state that the whole Solar installation process was a nightmare from beginning to end. And After installation Customer Support? Forget about it unless you enjoy frustration, long wait times, and no responses to your issues. Critter guards were installed initially but not well. So, Last fall I put in a request to have the situation resolved - not a fan of raccoons or squirrels hanging out on the roof. Someone came out and looked at the guards, said they’re fine and went on his merry way. Monday baby raccoons were spotted creeping under a panel. Critter guards had been pried up to allow access. They’re kind of smart that way. Placed a call - yup - still waiting for a call back. Good luck to you if you opt to go with Palmetto and their third party contractor Ion Solar! Can’t say you weren’t warned!!

​Avoid Palmetto Solar at all costs. Our experience has been a complete nightmare. We have had nothing but issues, and the solar panels have not worked since they were installed. No one from the company has bothered to call us or resolve the problem; the only communication we receive is occasional emails. They do not keep their word, routinely miss appointments, and even left equipment sitting outside our home. Since the installation, our electric bill is now higher than it was before we got solar. Save yourself the trouble and choose someone else.

Horrible Post-Installtion Support

Horrible After-Sale Service — System Down 5 Out of 9 Months ​I am extremely disappointed with Palmetto Solar. Our system was installed 9 months ago, and out of those 9 months, it has been completely non-functional for 5 of them. ​The selling process was smooth, but their post-installation support has been nonexistent. Having a brand-new solar setup sit idle for more than half the time we’ve owned it is completely unacceptable. To make matters worse, while the system generates zero energy, we are still stuck paying off the solar agreement alongside a full, un-offset electric bill. ​Getting customer support to address the outage is a constant battle of delays, unfulfilled promises, and lack of follow-through. A company shouldn't just be interested in closing the sale and placing panels on a roof; they need to stand by their equipment and keep it running. ​Save yourself the head-ache and look elsewhere. Until Palmetto dramatically fixes their customer service and repairs response time, I strongly recommend avoiding them.

Our solar experience with Palmetto has been superb. From the initial knock at the door to the installation. The guy that came out to explain everything was friendly and knowledgeable. The communication, from the Palmetto team, up until the install was informative and we knew what was going on and when things would be happening. The installers were respectful and worked quick. We love how much we save on electricity!

This is the best solar company to do business with. I've been approached by other solar companies that didn't take the time to explain things to my understanding. Dominic Lofreso did an outstanding job. He came prepared with a lot of visuals and a well put together presentation. He made sure everything was going smoothly from start to finish. Customer service is very responsive. I am very pleased.

I am so impressed with Palmetto. They kept me informed throughout the entire process. The installation crew was uniformed, clean cut, and professional. They installed 20 solar panels, a new mast, upgraded my house to 200 amp service and updated the my circuit breaker box in one day. My solar panels went on line 4/1/26 and thus far I couldn't be happier. My electric bill is already $-186.00 and growing. On a sunny day I can turn on the a/c, every ceiling fan, and everything else I can think of. I still produce twice the power that I need. I would like to post my bills but don't want that much private info out there. You'll just have to take my word for it.

We have had such a great experience with Palmetto. Our solar panels went up without complication and we have now had 2 full sar mo ths and our APCO bill has been nothing more than our extended warranty for outside wiring. Our monthly payment to Palmetto even went down $20 before we made the first payment! It cost us absolutely NOTHING to get started either. I didn't bel9eve it possible but it's true and I would do it for every home I live in possible from now on! They look good too! They don't stick out like I've seen others do.

The worst of the worst

My experience with this solar panel company has been the absolute worst. For three years now, the panels haven't worked—yet I continue to pay without receiving any service. I have called them many times; initially, they said they would send a technician who would charge $500. I agreed, but he never showed up. I called again, and now they tell me the fee is $1,000. I don't want these panels anymore; I feel completely scammed by this company.

I’ve had no issues with Lightreach and the support. Installation was pretty quick, MetEd was basically the hold up but after that it was turned on pretty quick. So stay on top of your electrical provider to come out and inspect. I had an inverter that was not working and they came out pretty quickly to replace it.

Shady! Liars!

Install was good- working fine for two years without an issue. Spend about $13/month and in summer almost $0. Two weeks ago said my monitoring system was down, I would have to pay a hefty fee to have a technician come out and “access” and reconnect-what a bunch of liars-this after care support has horrible follow-through they can barely speak English and take 48 hours minimum to reply. I was worried about getting scammed by this venture into solar panels, and feel like it’s coming true. Somehow they need to be held accountable!

Sunnova was who started my project

Palometto took over for Sunnova and put in a new contract that payments of 238.00 for 25 years I didn’t agree to it and having trouble getting a contract sent to me.And roof has two leaks

Si no funcionan bien al comienzo, se supone que sean nuevos, en unos años no servirán. No contraten a esa compañía, Adam el dueño, es prepotente y irrespetuoso. En definitiva, no se cuando funcionarán, porque después de firmado el contrato, no se hacen responsables

Took 14 grand and ran

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I began my marathon trying to get solar May of 2025, and not only did the project end up getting cancelled due to a discovery that the subcontractor lacks permits to operate in my state, I have yet to receive the $14,000 down payment I provided back in June of last year. What is even worse is that Palmetto has strung me along for the entirety of our relationship. I am writing this nearly a full year later because every month for the first 6 months they told me permitting was almost done and they would soon install (which was not possible as they couldn't even operate in the state) and then the last 4 months I have been told every week they are working to get my money returned, which has not happened. I chose this company after reading good reviews on multiple forums, and thought I was making a well-informed decision. It is shocking the level of customer care failing to be provided by a company of this size and reputation. I will update this review with any outcomes that result from either response to my refund requests or legal actions.

DON’T SIGN THE CONTRACT

They will say whatever you want to hear until you sign the contract, then you’re screwed! The only people saving money with solar panels are the ones that will own your home in 20 years or have $70k to pay off the lease. Our home is now unsaleable and there is no way out of the contract.

Terrible service

My panels/system is one year old, it has been very glitchy, randomly shutting down and not producing. The company that allegedly monitors the system, never notices it’s down, even when it’s several days. Now it has been down for TWO MONTHS! I notified them, took a week before customer service returned my calls, then were unable to get a service tech out for an additional 6 weeks! I’m still paying, and now I have to pay Xcel Energy too! Terrible system, terrible service

I was scammed

company placed 65 panels on my 2 bedroom home and for 6 months after, my electric bill has increased higher than ever before. Palmetto says I am not getting credit for the Solar.. Soo, give me my money back. I am paying Palmetto their monthly contract AND paying full electrical price from my electric company. Palmetto only insists I continue paying them no matter what. I has been 6 months thus... I just want the system removed for violating contract and they say no... keep paying.

My monthly energy costs doubled.

Do not use this company. This salesman, Brett Huff starts by telling me my next door neighbor "did not qualify for free solar panels but I did." All lies. The 25 year contract stipulates $89.12 monthly plus rate increases. After four months my bills have not gone down one cent. So now my energy costs have doubled. Not to mention the stupid installers cracked my interior ceiling and wall. Their customer service sucks. I intend to contact the South Carolina AG and file a complaint against this business. I am going to lawyer up also to get out of the contract.

Scummy scammy company

If I could give under 1 star I would. These people leased solar panels to my 93 year old father who died 3 months after signing the lease. I had to pay almost 30 thousand dollars to end the contract early so we could sell the house. They still call me every day asking for their payments they say I'm now several months late on. I tell them every day I already paid 30k to break their stupid predatory contract.

Customer service is horrible. It’s hard to understand agent. I ask to speak to a supervisor but they won’t let me. I’ve called 5-6 times with no response yet. They keep telling me to wait up to 48 hours for a technician to call me back. I wait and then call back. That’s why I’ve called so many times. I tried calling today and asked to speak to a supervisor and was told they were not in. I’ve read many reviews with the same problem I am having. It sounds like they need to hire more technicians. I wouldn’t use this company, too many problems. Go through the reviews with 1 star and you will understand.

Palmetto Solar has ZERO customer service! They uninstalled my panels so I could get my roof replaced but never came back to re-install them. After numerous phone calls and emails with no response, I finally gave up!

DO NOT BUY SOLAR PANELS! These people sold my husband who is in 80's solar panel loan for 50,000 dollars. They didn't check the title names on the home and they installed anyway. SCAM on the elderly! This was the biggest waste of money! Unless you plan to live in your home for 20 years you will LOSE MONEY on solar. SOLAR PANELS ARE THE BIGGEST WASTE OF MONEY! What they fail to tell you is the cost of the loan that you will be paying to purchase them and if you need to sell forget about it you will need to pay off the loan because buyers don't always understand them. If you need to repair your roof you're looking at 10,000 grand to remove and reinstall. IT"S A SCAM! The only people making money are the solar companies on your dime!!!! AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!

Shady Practices

Considered working with this group to get leased solar panels. Signed the agreement, but had voiced concerns about the condition of our roof and whether they would be good to install. They bypassed their own roof inspection to RUSH the job through. The installers wouldn't install because they were convinced the roof wasn't in good enough shape. The quote to fix the roof was 12k from a separate vendor and wasn't worth the solar savings. Their project manager, in an attempt to "save" the project tried to layer in the roof repair costs into the lease amount, which increased the liability and sent a new agreement. When I declined, he threatened me with up to $10,000 in cancellation fees for a project that literally hadn't even started. Fortunately, I have experience with reviewing contracts. This was such an obvious scare tactic. I was easily able to cancel the project through their normal routes without consequence, but any kind of scum project manager that would threaten that needs to be fired. I cannot imagine an older couple on a fixed income seeing that and not being pressured/manipulated into a lease. I intend to file a complaint with the AG Consumer Protection Division and get this company investigated for this. Don't give your money to companies that employ these kinds of people and tactics.

Misleading and regrets

I purchased the Solar panels 5 years ago. They looked at my electric bill and calculated how many panels I need to produce sufficient energy. My panels have never produced enough energy and now I pay an electric and solar panel bill. My inverter broke and was replaced last year. Now the system is not working again and they would like me to pay $600 to have a repair man look at it. I wish I did better research and never went with this company! the reviews are terrible. So now I have 3 bills! We do not open the pool anymore so we use less electricity now but i still get a bill. I spoke with Victor This AM who informed me that the company cannot afford to pay the bills for repair. Although the repair is for the inverter they replaced last year. Keep doing your research and go with a reputable company!

The salesman lied and was evasive

I told the salesman, in no uncertain terms, that I would not agreee to be on auto-pay. He never told me it was required, he never told me it was part of a contract, he never told me that not being on auto-pay would cost me an extra $15 per month. That's $4,500 dollars over the 25 year term of the contract, or $180 per year. That would have seriously impacted my decision on whether or not to agree to have these panels attached to my house. He was more concerned with making the sale and getting his bonus to go on a nice vacation to Jamaica than with being honest open about anything. He assured me that he would "be with me every step of the way", but now he is nowhere to be found. He has been to Jamaica and back, but he won't respond to my emails, and I have a lot of questions about all of this. I would not listen to any solar salesperson if I were you. They are deceptive self serving liars.

Damages during installation

This company sucks. The contractor they used caused a pipe to fall through my bathroom ceiling and cracked the tile in my bathroom floor. I have repeatedly called and always promised a supervisor would get in touch with me. This has been going on for 3 years and has never been resolved. I’m still waiting for a supervisor to call me back. I am filing a claim against the company. This is ridiculous.

Panels don’t work

I had the panels put on in December of 2024. They have never produced any solar energy. I’ve called Palmetto multiple times and they acknowledge that I need a technician to go out but they can’t seem to get me a tech. Now I am paying the monthly solar panel charge plus my electric bill. They can’t give me a time line of when this will be fixed. I DON’T ADVISE USING THIS COMPANY!!!
