Ground mount array

We bought a 16 array panel and it is working just fine. Our Alliant bill went from $200 a month to $16.00 and we have a surplus as well. Of course there were a couple problems along the way but Moxie addressed them quickly.

In 66 years I have never been ripped off as bad as MOXIE did. They designed the system and it would not work where they put it. It was taken down and moved to where they said it would work. I bought this in April 2021 and it still does not work. They still do not work. I have tried to contact the owner all the way down and no answer no returned calls. Read your contract full of loop holes. They took my hard earned money and walked away. Its sad that a company does a web site with all the perfect promises and BS you want to hear is a rip off.

Great Experience

Moxie did a great job start to finish. Their sales presentation was far superior to others. They recommended panels that were highly rated for cost-effectiveness by third-party reviewers. Their communication during the long process was exceptional. Also, everyone I've interacted with from Moxie has been very helpful. I have highly recommended them to several acquaintances who are interested in solar.

A Shit Company

I've had THE WORST EXPERIENCE with MOXIE. I would NEVER recommend their company. My System has been on my house less than 1 year. My purchase is paid in full and DOES NOT WORK! My system has been down for over a month now; I've called all of their dead-beat customer agents and no one will return my call. The best they have for customer service? If you have and issue, they will be happy to send you a link to a YouTube video and then tell you to figure out the shit yourself. My system was created to produce 785 kWH...it consistently underperforms...very much like this company. Once they have your money, they don't give a shit about you as a customer. I could, nor would I ever recommend this company or going solar to anyone. Construction and completion took over 6 months, and when the system construction was complete, they didn't even have anyone turn it on for nearly a month after it was completed. After that, Duke Energy, did not start crediting my account KWH until seven months later; this too was like wrestling with a giant. So, I had the system in place 7 months before I received any credit...and now the system is NOT WORKING!! It's not even a year OLD!!! Moxie SOLAR is a Shit Company. If anyone fr0m their customer service, warranty, and repair department want to come and actually get this system activated and running. I'll pull this review.

Solar system still not fully functional after 6 months

My husband and I contracted with Moxie Solar for the installation of a SunPower solar array and battery in June 2021. Moxie started installing our solar panels in August 2021, which was much sooner than expected. The solar array installation went smoothly and quickly, but our nightmare experience started with the electrical inspections (failed 4 times, sometimes for the same reason) and mostly centered around the battery installation. The battery, which was touted by SunPower as being fully integrated with their solar panels, was installed separately sometime in late fall 2021 and is still not functional. It doesn't seem to be well integrated with the solar panels, and Moxie Solar has not dedicated the resources necessary to figure out what the problem is and correct it. Since early December 2021, Moxie has only made about 3 or 4 attempts to get it working, the last one more than 2 weeks ago. Our interactions and communications with the Service Department, even those in management, have been very poor, and our emails, texts, and voicemail messages have frequently gone unanswered. Additionally, our complaints to Moxie Solar outside of the Service Department have been ignored. I cannot recommend this company.

Stay away!

This company has zero communication skills, never finished the project, basically takes your money and leaves one hanging. Since when does the customer do what the contractor was hired to do. Lawn was left a mess with almost 1' sunken Ditch line, never came to fix it. Given the home owner the instructions to activate the system. This company is a total scam.

Great Process & Product!

Bought a ground mounted system and battery back-up for our new home, which is also an all electric home (no gas). Installation process was smooth, and they coordinated well with the general contractor. Process was smooth, timely, and I was kept informed about where I sat in the process. Less than a week after we turned it on we had a power outage, batteries turned on instantly and kept the house going while all of our neighbors where in the dark! Even with a large electric furnace, it's been able to offset my usage.

The Worst Possible Experience

Do not use Moxie Solar. They are a nightmare! It took almost 7 months after the initial installation before they got the solar to work correctly. Now it is down after a power outage of over a month ago and they won't do anything to resolve the issues. This company is a total ripoff and scam. Please, look for another solar provider, MOXIE is not good. They have only untrained techs who have no clue what they are doing.

Give them a chance: Growing Pains, but good people

My solar install took about 4 1/2 months. 26 panels (no batteries at this time). No problem. PM Rico Silva (Raleigh) and his team were good to work with. The Raleigh office did my install and I do feel that a lot of time was wasted with the electrician driving up (to my location in Virginia) repeatedly and not really knowing how to do his job. I finally got the A team electricians, Stanley and Sergio. These guys were the answer to prayers. They fixed all the errors of the other electrician. The original install team for the panels were great guys, hard working and professional. They had to trench and did a good job. I kind of figured everything out myself with the MySunpower monitoring and got the PV Supervisor on my wireless network. I also reached out to my power company to help coordinate things like final inspection and permission to operate. I'm sure Moxie would have eventually accomplished this, but I figured it didn't hurt to help. Here's the bottom line. Moxie is a growing company, and with that comes growing pains. I was patient and I was flexible. The Raleigh office has only been in operation for about 6-8 months and so I believe this is normal growing pains. If you are expecting no problems at all, it rarely works like that with a solar install. There are always things that won't go perfectly. I am thankful for Rico and all he did to stay committed to the project, even when it was a bumpy ride. The price was thousands less than Sigora solar, and the only close competitor was going to use Canadian Solar panels with much less efficiency and higher degradation rates. Moxie also gives a veteran discount which is more than I can say for any other solar company.

horrible customer service and continuous lies

We started our process with Brian, sales, who was amazing. The only employee that gives a crap about the customers. From the program manager, Mr. Tilden who was initially contacted to report continuous lies from Rico, installer I believe, called him in November then texted when got no return phone call. All of the higher-level management do not want to fix any problems that there groundworkers create. We had gotten Enphase batteries which are still sitting in our garage and not hooked up. Once they finally finished the installation after some mysterious legal battle between sunpower and enphase, which by the way sunpower knows nothing about, we still have no way to store any solar that we dont use therefore our solar will not assist in lowering our power bill or be useful if we go to war which is where this country is headed. I have spent several days not paid off of work waiting for people to show that never did to only call two days later to say they were coming that day and were told they could not because I work 45 min from the house. We have reached out to everyone and can get no assistance on how to fix this. We had to make three payments on solar loan where we were told that sunpower would send us a residual check after first loan payment for six months of payments which I am not holding my breath waiting on that check. We have so many different "escalation teams" working on this but no one is getting back to us. This company lies to customers from bottom all the way to the top from installers to upper level that keeps passing the buck to someone else and gets me no where. Our next step may be to file suit as we are paying for something that was promised but not received and left holding a 60,000 bill with batteries that are not operatable and no way to know when because once again we have been in constant contact with three different companies and get no where. This is just no way to treat customers and need to do alot of things differently.

Do not under any circumstances use moxie solar to install your solar. It has been a year and mybpanels have just been cleared to operate but noone has shown us how. My batteries for back up are still setting in my garage floor in boxes and noone will respond to my emails or complaints or texts. They are more worried about looking bad and saving their jobs than their customers. It's been one lie after another. I should have known better when they showed up unprepared and smoking pot on my roof to install the panels. I financed over 50 grand for battery back up and so they have been paid and couldn't care less my batteries are setting in my garage floor. Fuck moxie solar. I hope you rot in hell.

Very poor service and they don't pay electrical subcontractors.

Moxie was very nice at first. After signing a contract with them the second week of August 2021, they invoiced for 30% of the contact price right away and invoiced another 30% of the contract price the end of August. After many errors in the permit application got resolved, a permit was approved the second week of September. Moxie subcontracted with a local electrical company to assist with the installation. Evidently, they had previously installed a system in my city without a properly licensed electrician, which contributed to the delay in getting a permit. The local electrician has fully completed 2 other projects with Moxie, but Moxie has not paid invoices that are past due and they are now considering placing liens on the properties that are completed. The subcontractor will not work on another project and tell me that Moxie will have a very hard time finding another local electrician to work with them with their reputation. It is very concerning that they don’t pay the subcontractors when they collect 60% of the project cost up front from the customers. It is now mid-January 2022, more than 5 months since the contract was signed and the installation has not even been started. I will need to start legal proceedings now in attempt to get my money back from them. The contract states that Moxie “will complete the project in a timely fashion”. Not even getting started after more than 5 months is not a “timely fashion”. I’ve found many poor reviews for Moxie that were written since September. Don’t sign a contract with Moxie Solar! They do not respond to phone calls or e-mails from me or from the local electrical contractor.

Lack of management, communication, and competence.

I signed a contract with Moxie Solar on June 24th. Since then, there have been numerous delays and mistakes by Moxie. I sent over two dozen photos and went up to the roof of my garage twice to take measurements to send to Moxie designers. No Moxie employee has ever been here. I have been assigned three project managers, all of whom have left the company. I never had any contact from the last one. I was asked by Moxie to sign an interconnection agreement for our power company for an array I did not approve. My project manager, Stacey, didn’t know the agreement had been sent to me. The next project manager, Sam, didn’t know that my payment from a month earlier had not been processed. (I had received two verification emails that the payment had been processed, though the funds had not been drawn from my bank account.) She also could not verify that I was getting Panasonic panels even though I had made these inquiries in an earlier email to her. The wrong metal roof connectors were given to the installers, Kearns Construction out of Dekalb, Illinois, delaying the installation. I have several schematics that are incorrect or incomplete. Project managers do not manage. I was told to contact the operations manager, Ryan, to discuss the delay in the electrical hookup. It had been two weeks since the panels were installed and we hadn't heard from Moxie or an electrician when to expect the connections at the panels and at the meter. I reached Ryan three times in fourteen attempts over two months. Ryan maintained that the electrical contractor who had agreed to complete projects in this area had quit on them and he could not find another one. The secretary of the local IBEW, after speaking with Ryan, said that Ryan was looking for a non-union contractor and that union contractors were looking for work. Shortly thereafter, I called my sales person, Lauren Hein, who informed me that Ryan no longer services Wisconsin customers. Lauren suggested we contact Steve Hoffman, who did call us once, but was unresponsive to my three voicemails. Finally, on December 10th, B&B Electric, a union company arrived and completed the connections over the next several days. My power company came and said the panels were not producing, so they could not test the system. Usually, they said, a representative from the solar company meets them for the test. The ethernet cable for the Enphase communication system was buried with the power line out to the power pole where our meter is, not to the house where my modem is. The ground is now frozen so a new ethernet cable cannot be buried. Steve Hoffman suggested that in spring they could do the trenching and complete the ethernet connection. I told him that that was completely unacceptable. I bought a mesh router system so that my WIFI signal could extend to the Enphase monitoring box on the far side of my detached garage. I researched how to set up the monitoring signal and got it partially working. The Enphase app verified that the panels were producing. The power company came back out and approved the interconnection. It was another two weeks and a call to Enphase, that put in a service request to Moxie, before it completed the monitoring setup remotely. It's funny though, after all the delays, how my final bill came the next day! The only Moxie employee that I have been able to rely on has been Lauren Hein. Lauren has been honest and helpful.

We were very please with the process of Moxie Solar. The installers were very kind and professional thorughout the process. We even had an issue where the installers had to stay longer than expected and they did not complain. We only had one issue with the system in which Moxie sent a service provider out within a week to address and fix the problem.

Very bad response

The follow up does not happen as well as completion of simple work on the job needed to complete contract. They hire electric companies that need a full check of completion of job sights. Employees do not follow up as well as respond to electric company calls. So far Moxie and wolf river electric do not meet even 1 1/2 star for work. It is totally frustrating 9 months later I am still trying to get this job completed by the both of them. Even after contract was signed the panels had to be changed. It is hard when even people do not work hard for Moxie and have very little understanding and then leave.

Experience went from good to terrible...

We were very impressed by Moxie during the initial sales process. They were patient with us while we dealt with other issues on our new home in during the pandemic. When we were ready to move forward, Moxie moved quickly to get the panels up on our roof. Unfortunately, from there, this process has been wholly disappointing. Contrary to the design plans that were approved by our local electric company, Moxie ran the wiring improperly. This means our electric company has not authorized use of the system and it has sat completely idle for almost two months. Our project manager is unresponsive and unable to give any concrete timeline for resolving this issue. I appreciate that the pandemic has created new challenges for supply chain and labor, but this isn't the cause of our problem. If the contractors who installed the panels followed the approved diagrams, everything would be working fine. At this point, I can not honestly recommend Moxie to others.

Horrible Experience!!!

I will start from the beginning of my journey with Moxie Solar. I decided solely on Moxie after receiving numerous quotes and based on what I thought was a good reputation. I was wrong, and there has been nothing but headaches throughout the entire process with this company. Take my advice and steer clear if you are reading this review! I will start off with my project manager Sharie Grief, who was not a project manager. I was the project manager who coordinated with the utility company and the other terrible company Green Solar. At MOXIE, there is no such thing as a project manager. Believe it or not, for such a big company, good luck trying to get anybody but the service department to answer the phone. It's a ghost town, and no one will respond to emails either. Some decent people work there; Hannah Ortiz has been exceptional and deserves a promotion for policing the horrible management at this company. This company has no form of leadership or managers whatsoever! My journey began when I received a phone call from Green Solar telling me they had my materials and planned on coming out the next day. This phone call was 3 months after I signed the contract by the way. I honestly was baffled and wanted to know why a company named "Green Solar" was coming out to install my solar panels when I hired MOXIE SOLAR. I called Sharie, my project manager, who was clueless and said, “I am not sure why they are coming out because I thought MOXIE was in your area.” Are you kidding me? What a joke!! The so-called project manager had no idea. Just so everyone reading this is aware, GREEN SOLAR is a low bidder company that MOXIE will outsource to save a few dollars to do their dirty work but still post MOXIE SOLAR signs all over your property. What a scam this company is! Green Solar shows up four hours late on their first day with a crew barely speaking English. There was no oversight whatsoever, and when I asked why they were late, they nonchalantly told me we had to stop and pick up materials. After they arrived they then proceeded to ask me questions about where the panels were going and what the capacity was on my roof. This would have all been communicated if a site crew were to come out which I was told was not necessary. The crew was late every day for a week straight and had numerous problems on the job site. The materials were wrong, trash was left blowing all over my property, they utilized my garage and driveway as their dumping grounds to offload equipment, the installation was a disaster, and they unplugged one of my 22 cu ft deep freezers on their last day. They failed to communicate that to me, so I lost over 5,000.00 dollars in meat. I had to utilize my tractor to offload hundreds of pounds of meat with my wife and bury it on my property. I was furious. My family’s meat was to sustain us throughout the year. The company spent an entire week working at my house on this project. Something was being shipped to my place every day but never seemed to be the right parts from MOXIE. On the last day they told me their work was done, and the system was complete. The only problem was I was missing an entire inverter, and the plan was inoperable. I would call that an incomplete system. The next day it rained, and the trench they hand-dug flooded and was a complete disaster. The rainwater was soaking all around the foundation to my garage, and the 40ft trench was sinking. I was worried my children would get injured. I have a 300 yd gravel driveway that had just been redone with fresh gravel, and they decided to fill the trench in with gravel and put the clay and dirt on the top. Again there was zero management on this Jobsite. I was praying that they were insured, saying the least. I had to get a new shipment of gravel delivered and then use my tractor to fix the mess. All in all, with labor included, I created an estimate of $6,446.32. I contacted MOXIE to inform them of the issues, and I was redirected to the escalations team. This team was created from what I was told through a google meeting from Jennifer Secrist and Leah Furnish because of issues such as mine. I was told that my problem would be handled appropriately and that I would receive an insurance claims for the mishaps. These issues are systemic when companies start outgrowing their shoes. They begin to lose trust and loyalty in customers and consumers. They then go out of business. Three months later, I still have not received my insurance claim for the mishaps. I have called and emailed Leah Furnish, but she will not return my calls or emails. Leah's title with MOXIE is the VP, Process-Policy-People. I was left with no choice to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and my next option will be through a lawsuit. I have given numerous opportunities for MOXIE to resolve this issue before these reviews and complaints. It took over two months for MOXIE to fix my system to render it operable. Within those two months, I was already making payments on an inoperable system. I had my utility company here three times to swap the meter out. They were also very frustrated in the process and wanted to know why I hired a company like MOXIE. This company is an embarrassment, and I feel like a complete fool for hiring them. This process was exhausting, and now I have to deal with them every time I have an issue. I am better off outsourcing my electricians and paying out of pocket when something goes wrong.

Love our Solar and Batteries

We like receiving money from the Electric company rather than getting a $300-400 bill every month! On and beyond that fact, we have helped our environment by saving CO2 Emissions of 47,468.5 lbs. and the Equivalent trees planted of 359 since May of '20. We would do it all again. The set up was so easy, Joe Sarb, sales rep. did all the planning over the computer, even planning exactly how to place the panels. The Installation was also quite seamless and clean, not like the usual construction projects. Joe is still just a text message away from my questions. Thank you, Joe. We went with battery backup with Tesla and love them too. Nice to not have to use the grid during the night or on cloudy, rainy days.
