Great at the start, since then things have gone downhill

We had a 14kW system installed on our property. To go along with that, we ordered an $8,000 Tesla PowerWall. After six months of waiting on the PowerWall, I asked them to swap the PowerWall for more solar panels, which they agreed to do. That was over a year ago. Recently I discovered that Moxie is out of business and I'm paying $8,000 for production that I will never receive. I am not happy. I thought I'd done my research before choosing Moxie but in the end I got burned.

Class Action

I paid roughly 60% towards a solar system that was never installed. I want a full refund, now this article (https://www.thegazette.com/business/north-liberty-solar-installation-company-closes/) indicates they are out of business and "there does not appear to be sufficient assets to accommodate unsecured creditors". . We should try a class action lawsuit.

14 months without complete installation

I have spent every week trying to get Moxie to fix issues with installation, wiring and finish installation since August. They sent people out once who then simply left saying they needed parts and the company ghosted me. Improper installation, billing and complete lack of communication… we need to band together on this one people. Class action lawsuit has to happen.

Long story short, I remitted the first 10% in November 2022 and beginning the week of Thanksgiving, all communications stopped. Even with the REC buyer. Is there an attorney anyone would recommend, or has a class action suit been started? Lets band together and at least try to get our money back. WE can't raise anyone in Moxie, maybe a legal type can.

Don't ever do business with Moxie

We're nine months into an installation by this company. All I have to show for it is two letters of Intent to File Lien from the company's sub-contractors. They never fulfill their promises and now aren't returning calls.

Do NOT use - Cannot be trusted

Just got an email from Moxie Solar. "We are writing to inform you that Moxie Solar is under new ownership and new management. The company that you have a contract with is the former Moxie Solar (Old Moxie). We had voluntarily tried to accommodate customers that had contracts with Old Moxie, but unfortunately we are unable to do so and we cannot complete your project. We are deeply saddened by this outcome." "The company that you originally contracted with has been acquired, and in that purchase, the warranties that they held did not transfer to the new entity, so we will not be able to provide you service." They also owe me $4000 for a second Tesla Powerwall ordered in March, 2021 and never delivered. They promised to refund my down payment by November 2022.

Took our $25k deposit, and never delivered. We signed and put down a deposit for a large ground mount solar array in spring 2020. They guaranteed it would be completed by October of 2020. By January of 2021, Moxie was still tied up in permitting, with no end in sight. Communication was horrible. We canceled the contract after 9 months from signing because Moxie still couldn’t get out of the permit approval phase (they guaranteed goal job completion/installation in 6 months). They put in writing that we would get a full refund of our deposit in February of 2021. 13 months go by before we even hear from them again about how to repay us. They said they couldn’t pay us back until November of 2022, in four weekly installments. It is November of 2022, and Moxie still hasn’t refunded our deposit, 22 months later. They aren’t responding to emails or voicemails. This has been a nightmare! The next step is going to court. Do NOT use Moxie Solar! Run away as fast as can!

go with another company

hired Moxie to design and install our system. all went well with the design and install the folks we talked to and worked with were great. then the problems started, the local utility didn't approve of one connector in the metering box. getting moxie to correct the problem was a struggle, after a month of calls and emails the problem was finally corrected. the system was powered up and all was well, until we had a power surge and 1 bank of our panels flaked out, and like the connector issue getting any one in the service department to respond to our calls for service was and is an ongoing struggle. 2 months have gone by and we're still without 1 bank of panels working. when a service tech did show up to confirm the bank wasn't working, he stated we should have a surge protector on our system. which in my opinion should have been installed when the system was installed not after we're looking at what is seeming like an expensive repair. bottom line is hire someone else to for your solar system or learn to fix your system yourself. moxie has the sale and install covered, the design and service, falls flat, and to say that they failed would be an understatement!! HANWHA Q-CELLS were the panels installed (not listed in the dropdown)

14 months and no completed system

Small residential system and after 14 months of partial installation, and no response from them in almost six months I feel completely betrayed. All I wanted was a system to keep my wife safe and comfortable during power outages regardless of how long they lasted. Even paid more for a bigger battery bank to handle the whole house air conditioner. With out power, the LiFePo batteries that are mounted outside will be damaged by the below freezing weather. The only thing they have fulfilled in the contract is the start of the installation and billing me. The only part of the system that was installed where designed are the solar panels. The design engineer that planned the system did not properly plan for the correct sizes of anything else.

Best not used just like our panels

After one year, we are still not able to use our panels. Moxie set us up with easy quick financing at .49% for the full cost of our 16 KW ground mount system. They hired a building contractor to build the array and trench wires to my meter. This was in October, 2021. Then, Moxie got paid by Sunlight Financial, and my payments kicked in in December. No word from them when electricians would finish install. They can't get anybody to do it basically. Finally at the end of June 2022. Electricians come and hook it up, wrong apparently, because it fails state inspection. Now it's September. I can't recommend Moxie. Use local companies if you can.

DO NOT USE MOXIE...RUN AWAY!

If there’s anything you can take from my long it is…Run as far as you can from Moxie… I originally contacted Moxie late September 2021 to get my solar panels installed and it has been a drama worthy of an Oscar movie since them. Let me begin. The only good thing about Moxie was their price for their Sunpower solar panels was low. Regardless of how bad Moxie is, Sunpower was one of the best solar panel brands that I found when I did my research. When our family signed the deal with Moxie, we were assigned project manager 1 who introduced herself to us and was fired the same afternoon. Our salesperson did not know about it and told us a few days later when I was asking him why she didn’t respond to any of our emails. I was then told by our salesperson that Moxie was downsizing in several states and had let go several people in their reorganization. Not a good first start and I’m already starting to worry. Shortly after I was assigned to project manager 2. She was very unhelpful with the permitting process. We were promised a month for permits to get approved for our solar panels. But when it took over a month, we contacted her who said she’s had permits take an hour to 9 months. Basically she didn’t help expedite the process and was just stonewalling me. She also soon disappeared and I was told that she left the company. I was then passed along to project manager 3 who didn’t respond to any of my emails. Finally I was then passed along to their client services team who botched things up even more. Turned out the reason why my permitting was taking so long is because they didn’t know that my county requires paper and online permit submission. Moxie had neglected to file a paper permit…even though they claimed to have done solar panels in my county before. After the permitting was done which took a month longer than expected and I lost another month of solar I could have had, I had to wait a few weeks for the panels to arrive. Those were the only things that arrived on time with Moxie. They installed them and the installers were great to deal with and courteous. We had to get it inspected by my county. Moxie botched it up some more. Moxie would set inspection dates without consulting me and I had to change work plans to be able to let both the county inspector and Moxie electrician in. During the first inspection, Moxie HQ miscommunicated to their electrician so he didn’t show up when the county inspector was here. We had to reschedule and I had to change work plans again. Also Moxie was unclear on the fact that there was an electrical inspector and building inspector so I was unsure which inspector was actually arriving. During the rescheduled inspection, the electrician failed inspection because he used an indoor breaker box on the outside which the inspector caught. He had to go out for an hour to get another one and install and the inspector had to come back another day to pass our system. After our system passed, Moxie sat for a while and I had to manually call Duke to get them to pass my unit and get it commissioned. Once our system passed we were finally operational, probably about a month and half later than promised which is better than what other reviews I’ve read were. Once operational, the units did fine for a few months. We were generating more power than we were using. Then all the sudden in May, their service advisor started to email me suddenly saying that something called the CTs on my unit had to be swapped around because they were installed backwards. She couldn’t explain to me well what CTs were and what work exactly had to be done. Regardless I still had some trust in them at the time and I let their service tech into my house again to fix. Once it was fixed, I get another email not too much longer saying that the CT fix did not fix the issue which they still could not explain to me. So they scheduled another appointment. In this second appointment, the technician came to our house unannounced (two weeks early) to our ire because I was not home and had to let them in via my phone and let them work unsupervised. The 2nd fix did not work and Moxie again contacted me stating that they had to come back another time. During this 3rd fix, the technician was a different guy and we were told that the previous technician no longer worked for Moxie. This last fix messed up my solar panels and I started to generate less power than their app was showing and started to owe Duke money even though summer time has the most sunlight. I would say that I’ve lost about $300-400 in credits and paying for electricity that I didn’t use due to their mistakes. I started to contact Moxie to get it fixed but they purposely ignored my voicemails, phone calls and multiple emails. I started to run out of options so I contacted our sales person who sold us our solar panels for help only to find out that he left the company recently. So that’s at least 4 people who have left Moxie in less than a year since I got the units. Finally I reached out to Sunpower for help and they switched me to another dealer and were able to remotely fix my units. During the remote fix, it was discovered that Moxie did not set up my individual panel monitoring so I am dealing with that now and may have to pay another company to come to my roof to get the serial numbers of my panels to get that set up. You’ve been warned.

Spend a little bit more money, and go with a better company

Spend a little bit more money, and go with a better company. We signed the contract in September and were told by the salesman we would likely be hooked up in January. Between the time we signed with them and now, the Better Business Bureau rating has cratered and is now an F rating. Over the months I sent many emails to moxie, which were mostly ignored. They eventually started responding, and gave us numerous promised hook up dates. They then for one reason or another canceled all of the hook up dates and the latest email today they are stating mid September. One year after we signed the contract and paid for the system. I think that 12 months between paying $43000 for the system and being hooked up is crazy. To be honest, I have no confidence that they will hook us up in September because they’ve broken other promises. Of interest, they promised us skirting around our solar panels and advised we pay for critter guard to the top of the panels which we did pay for and then they failed to install the skirting and when I asked about it they said that the racking system they used does not allow skirting to be placed. So we agreed to and paid for panels and skirting and we instead have panels with no skirting and for some reason we have paid to have critter guard on the top of the panels which obviously is a complete waste of money. However the contract we signed and the build order confirm skirting around the sides, so I’m interested to see how Moxie explains this one away. Oh, and the salesman changed the warranty on the panels, and if we hadn’t triple checked everything he would’ve got away with it. He called it a “mistake“ when we pointed out to him what he had done. But it was a mistake that would have benefited moxie greatly. If I recall correctly he changed the warranty from 25 years to 15 years. Glad we caught it! Caveat emptor. Let the buyer beware.

Had my solar array installed March of 2019 Lie #1 Was told 10000$ fed tax credit dollar for dollar. Go to file taxes. We don't make enough and probably never will to use the tax credit. Especially since the tax code changed. They calculated the rebate into the financing. Saying my monthly bill would be $168 After state and fed rebate. My real payment after paying 11k from state rebateThinking I used my tax credit the first 18 months I could pay the extra 5k. My payment ended up at $205 a month.Low and behold the were wrong. . Having my financing infront of them. They should have known I can't use tax credit. So that's Wasted. Lie #2 Was told my solar would cover my electric 105%. After installation My monthly comed bill, using same amount of electricity, lowest was $54. Highest comed bill $150. Now add that to my solar payment of $205. $350 a month in solar and electric combined on a cloudy month. Lie #3 Was told they do everything no outside contractors. They pound in my solar array posts. It's a sub contractor. HUGE problems during installation. It's March ground is thawing. They tore up my yard because they did not put ply wood down where bobcat going to trench 200ft to array. Then during their trenching. They hit my propane line for my furnace. Draining all my propane. Make matters worse they tried to rig it instead of calling Gas company. I only found out because I went to cook my daughter lunch and stove wouldn't light. I don't know if they would have told me had I not noticed. I called gas company to have them come and fix it correctly. So, we continue 15 ft later they hit my septic tank taking off Chuck of concrete and breaking the edge of tank and the drain pipe going to septic field. Call septic people to fix. Then they leave huge lumped up trench ridge not smoothed. Literally sticking up 8-12 inches in spots. Left area Tore up from when septic people came to fix tank and their equipment. No grass seed nothing. Call they said get quote we have it fixed. Send quote. 2 years later they approve With written contract with contractor. 8 months later they've still not paid the contractor. Contractor keeps showing up saying Moxie still hasn't paid and is ignoring calls. I've even called to no avail Contractor have filed a lawsuit for payment. I've called them no joke 100 times spoke to President multiple times was assured get fixed. It took 2 years. I've cut down 4 huge trees trying to free up as much light as possible. After tree removal it gets full sunall day. Still doesn't produce to what they said. I wish I went with a wind turbine. Don't go with moxie. They f**k every one.

Moxie Solar - Run!

Run far and fast from this company. The installation process was a nightmare. I had to start-up system myself. It took several months and visits to get the system working correctly. I have had several failures that take months to get corrected. At this time I have a group of panels that are not producing power and a Generac battery cabinet that is not working. So I am missing ~20% power production and only have 50% storage working. Several emails and multiple calls and ZERO response from service department.

Worst communication

Moxie was all about selling us the system, then not finishing the job. Before the panels were installed, we had the expense of replacing the roof which was not quite ready to be replaced, and gutter helmets had to be removed and then replaced at an additional cost. After the panels were installed and electrician finished their work, the County Inspector arrived and did not have the paper work from Moxie needed to approve the install. It has been a month now and Moxie will not give us the paper work for the inspector. We were also told that we would receive a rebate from our power company which was denied. We have now made two payments on our solar panels and also high electric payments since our system is not up and operating. Moxie will not give us dates as to when the install will be complete and inspected. I would not recommend this company. Read the fine print of your contract.

If you have and issue, they will be happy to send you a link to a YouTube video and then tell you to figure out the shit yourself. My system was created to produce 785 kWH...it consistently underperforms...very much like this company. Once they have your money, they don't give a shit about you as a customer. I could, nor would I ever recommend this company or going solar to anyone. Construction and completion took over 6 months, and when the system construction was complete, they didn't even have anyone turn it on for nearly a month after it was completed. After that, Duke Energy, did not start crediting my account KWH until seven months later; this too was like wrestling with a giant. So, I had the system in place 7 months before I received any credit...and now the system is NOT WORKING!! It's not even a year OLD!!! Moxie SOLAR is a Shit Company. If anyone fr0m their customer service, warranty, and repair department want to come and actually get this system activated and running. I'll pull this review.

Solar system still not fully functional after 6 months

My husband and I contracted with Moxie Solar for the installation of a SunPower solar array and battery in June 2021. Moxie started installing our solar panels in August 2021, which was much sooner than expected. The solar array installation went smoothly and quickly, but our nightmare experience started with the electrical inspections (failed 4 times, sometimes for the same reason) and mostly centered around the battery installation. The battery, which was touted by SunPower as being fully integrated with their solar panels, was installed separately sometime in late fall 2021 and is still not functional. It doesn't seem to be well integrated with the solar panels, and Moxie Solar has not dedicated the resources necessary to figure out what the problem is and correct it. Since early December 2021, Moxie has only made about 3 or 4 attempts to get it working, the last one more than 2 weeks ago. Our interactions and communications with the Service Department, even those in management, have been very poor, and our emails, texts, and voicemail messages have frequently gone unanswered. Additionally, our complaints to Moxie Solar outside of the Service Department have been ignored. I cannot recommend this company.

horrible customer service and continuous lies

We started our process with Brian, sales, who was amazing. The only employee that gives a crap about the customers. From the program manager, Mr. Tilden who was initially contacted to report continuous lies from Rico, installer I believe, called him in November then texted when got no return phone call. All of the higher-level management do not want to fix any problems that there groundworkers create. We had gotten Enphase batteries which are still sitting in our garage and not hooked up. Once they finally finished the installation after some mysterious legal battle between sunpower and enphase, which by the way sunpower knows nothing about, we still have no way to store any solar that we dont use therefore our solar will not assist in lowering our power bill or be useful if we go to war which is where this country is headed. I have spent several days not paid off of work waiting for people to show that never did to only call two days later to say they were coming that day and were told they could not because I work 45 min from the house. We have reached out to everyone and can get no assistance on how to fix this. We had to make three payments on solar loan where we were told that sunpower would send us a residual check after first loan payment for six months of payments which I am not holding my breath waiting on that check. We have so many different "escalation teams" working on this but no one is getting back to us. This company lies to customers from bottom all the way to the top from installers to upper level that keeps passing the buck to someone else and gets me no where. Our next step may be to file suit as we are paying for something that was promised but not received and left holding a 60,000 bill with batteries that are not operatable and no way to know when because once again we have been in constant contact with three different companies and get no where. This is just no way to treat customers and need to do alot of things differently.
