Lumina Solar

We just had Lumina Solar install 28 solar panels and associated components and were VERY impressed with the installation crew today. The installation went very well and Eli (electrician)did a great job explaining the system functionality. Communication throughout the entire process has been top notch, especially with their Project Manager Peter Hayes. He’s kept us well informed for every step and was very prompt with any questions we had. We’re extremely impressed with Lumina Solar thus far and look forward to enjoying our system for years to come. GREAT JOB LUMINA SOLAR TEAM!!!

I would choose Lumina Solar all day every day

I cannot recommend Lumina Solar enough. I am so happy we selected them for our rooftop solar panel and in-garage EV charger installation. All of my expectations were exceeded from the moment I submitted my contact info on Lumina Solar's website. Here's my breakdown: * Pre-sales: From our first interaction and every interaction thereafter, Ryan Cook, our solar consultant, instilled confidence. His knowledge and transparency about solar panels and micro-inverters (manufacturers, quantity), energy production, incentives, energy production expectations, and everything in between is next level. Lumina Solar became my top choice because of my initial and follow-up conversations with Ryan. He is awesome. * Pre-Installation: After signing the necessary paperwork, Lumina Solar scheduled and punctually completed all roof and electrical inspections. They also completed all necessary paperwork and applications for state inspections, power company requirements, and everything else required to begin work. Ryan kept me updated at every step. The Lumina Solar team stuck to the projected project schedule to a T. Impressive. * Electrical installation: Mike, Dre, Eric, Amir, and Ryan (a different Ryan) are a well oiled machine. Mike, lead electrician, is an artist. His wiring work was not only up to code (passed inspection first try), it was also aesthetically pleasing (i.e., symmetrical, clean lines, aligned with existing wiring and electrical boxes). I was very impressed by Mike and his team. Of note, they did encounter a significantly challenging issue. Mike quickly and transparently brought it to my attention and Lumina Solar took care of it expeditiously. It wasn't a headache in any way. * Solar panel installation: No issues whatsoever. Eric, Amir, and Ryan did a superb job. They were a well oiled machine. They made the work look easy. And they looked like they were having fun. They were safe (e.g., harnessed, careful) the entire time. * EV charger installation: Mike and Dre installed the wiring. There were some minor wiring and installation challenges that were unique to our situation. These challenges were resolved quickly and completely. I am super happy with the final result. Definitely consider Lumina Solar for your EV charger installation. * Post-installation: Installation was completed almost exactly two months after we signed the initial agreement (timeline we wanted). All inspections passed on the first try. Solar system went live within 30 days of installation being completed. Energy production has exceeded expectations and projections. Post-installation support from Lumina Solar (Jojo, Ryan, Mark, and others) has been exceptional. All post-installation tasks were completed (e.g., SRECs, insurance, financing). I cannot be more happy with Lumina Solar and every one of its team members. They made going solar absolutely worth it in every way. One of the best decisions I have ever made. Thank you, Lumina Solar!!! Stay awesome!!!

First rate from start to finiish

I searched around for about two months to find a company that had the right combination of service, technology, and price. When I found Lumina, I knew I had my installer. They assigned single contact, in my case Peter Hayes, to me who guided me through the entire process. The price was right and they used the tech I needed (microinverters). The company kept me informed the entire time, even during supply chain issues beyond their control. They were also flexible with financing, agreeing to work with the Clean Energy Credit Union. When I subsequently had an electrician do work in the house, he went out of his way to compliment the quality of Lumina's install. Top notch!

Excellent service!

The design, installation, and billing processes for our 10 kW solar installation all went smoothly. It was easy to get in touch with our project manager, and he carefully explained every aspect of what was going on and what to expect. We also had an electric vehicle charger installed. When it turned out that the charger cable was too short for our unusual parking layout, Lumina solved the problem very quickly. Our electric usage is probably below average, but it was still rewarding to see that our May bill had a credit - even though the panels had been operating for only three weeks of the month. We have talked to several neighbors about our experience and are recommending Lumina Solar to them.

Lumina Solar is THE BEST!

Highly recommended! My family and I visited with several companies before deciding on Lumina Solar. We were most impressed with Alex's presentation, which was the only one to discuss the specificities of how the equipment would be installed on our roof. This was important for us because we recently had a number of repair issues and wanted to ensure the installation would not create any problems that needed attention down the road. Alex was also very patient with us as we asked questions during his presentation. He wanted to make sure that we understood how the system worked, the timeline for permitting, etc., and what to expect after the system was installed (e.g. MD credits, SRECs, energy production, etc.). Alex didn't try to rush us into making a decision and he didn't try to lock us in with attractive-sounding yet ultimately unbeneficial alternative payment/ownership models, such as a Power Purchasing Agreement. Once we signed with Lumina Solar, the entire process was seemless and quick. Their team kept me apprised on every step and checked in to answer questions. The site visit went smoothly and the inspector was very thorough (thanks, Erica!). The installation team arrived on time, worked quickly, and left my home (inside and out) cleaner than it was when they started (Chris and Delph were wonderful!). (They took the time to remove their shoes when entering my home and even vacuumed when they were finished.) I'm also grateful that the team handled all of our paperwork and registered us for all of the relevant accounts (this in itself would have taken me hours to do). In sum, Lumina Solar is hands down the BEST choice for your home's solar needs.

Complex installation done well!

I asked three different solar companies before talking to Lumina. All three declined to install solar on my house despite plenty of sun and a clean roof to mount panels. The reasons varied from we don't install on your type of roof to not worth the effort due to required setbacks. Zac from Lumina sat down with me and in an hour and a half we had a completely designed system using 23 panels, with cost and payback figured out. Lumina had no issues working with my type of roof and Zac explained that the setbacks didn't apply to my roof design. Over the next couple of days I discussed various revisions and asked questions. Zac answered the questions quickly, tweaked the design and we signed a contract. Installation took two days and everyone was polite and careful while working on my house. I'm VERY happy with Lumina.

I worked with Christopher Richardson at Lumina. He offered a clear, comprehensive, detailed presentation and quote. None of the other four companies I spoke to offered anything about their quotes in writing unless I agreed to sign with them. Two offered their saleperson's hand written notes and the other only offered a quote by phone. Christopher emailed me a personized powerpoint presentation that allowed me to see everything about the specifications of the system they would design for my house including details about the panels, inverters, installation, and financing. They gave me all of the information and time that I needed to make a decision, and they offered the best product and price to boot. I also really appreciated going to their website and being able to see information about who the leaders and staff are at Lumina and how diverse the company is in every way. The staff, engineer, and workmen were professional and competent at every step of the installation process. My system is working beautifully. It covers 100%+ of my energy needs and is costing me less per year, with no money down, to own the panels. Going 100% solar with Lumina is one of the best decisions I've made.

Initially satisfied, ultimately disappointed.

Lumina installed my Solar System in July 2019 and honestly the sales experience was really superb. In 2020 I received my federal tax rebate just as Lumina had stated and up to this point I was happy with the system and spoke highly of it to others. Unfortunately in mid-to-late 2021 my system began having technical issues and the system was down for months before technicians were able to resolve the problem. The failure in being able to get my system repaired in a timely manner may be more attributable to Omnidian (the company that provides monitoring and tech support for Lumina’s solar systems) than to Lumina itself. The bottom line here is that I was still paying for a non-functional solar system while now also paying a normal electricity bill. While I get that things break, the bigger problem was that customer support was practically non-existent and I'm assuming understaffed based on the time it took to get technicians to my home. In 2022 the modem and associated support for the modem that was installed was “prematurely discontinued”. This resulted in loss of access to energy monitoring, real time usage reports, remote installed maintenance, and Solar Renewable Energy Certificates (SRECs) Incentives. While the modem problem associated with the transitions from 3g to 5g networks is widespread, it just feels wrong that on a new system I have to pay additional money out-of-pocket to restore the originally advertised features of my solar system . After this overall experience I would recommend to people looking for Solar Panel Systems to avoid Lumina Solar and instead go to a larger business that is able to better support their customers post-sale and throughout their products life-cycle. I understand that Lumina is likely too small to have absorbed the cost of having to upgrade the modems of all of their previously installed systems, even if they were only a couple years old and sold under the guise of a five year communication plan. My main concern now is the long-term issues I may have with the system because of the problems I have already experienced from both a product and customer service standpoint.

Well informed and professional

We could not have been more impressed with Lumina solar sales and installers. Phil was an expert on all things solar and answered all of our questions and laid out great options for our instal. We were incredibly impressed by the installers. They worked with us to hide the wiring to the meter and were in and out in one day. Most impressively they roped off their area of work so that my kids did not get to their equipment and they picked up every last bit of trash behind them. The solar system is saving us $$ everyday and we could not be more happy with it. Mike and Steph.

Awesome company!

Very professional and friendly company. I went through multiple solar companies, getting quotes and out of all of them Lumina had the best cost, financing, service, knowledge and warranty. The big national brands do not have the personal relationship with the local permitting office and therefore don’t know the local codes, which limit the amount of panels they put on your roof. Lumina worked closely with the permitting office and was able to maximize the number of solar panels I could get in my roof. Furthermore their roof inspector was very detailed, not just use a drone to take photos. They were on the roof inspecting and measuring every square inch. They found some flaws which I had my roofing company make warranty repairs. Without the inspection, I would of never known and a drone wouldn’t of been able to see it. All of the staff was very detailed, and kept track of every step of the install and activation process. I did ask the county inspector how the install work was and he had commented that Lumina always does good work and he doesn’t have to “chase” them for mistakes, like he has to do with other companies. My solar install is very clean, there are not conduits running every where on my roof and the panels and micro inverted they use are the most advanced ones right now. Cost ended being about $2.76/watt which is very reasonable for the type of panels and inverters I got. I had quotes from other companies were much higher and crappier panels and poorer service. I would highly recommend lumina to anyone looking to install solar. Everyone they use is in house and not contractors.

Quick but Professional

I was sold on Solar by Peter Hayes of Lumina Solar after his presentation. There is a lot of data involved in determining whether Solar was going to be the right fit for my residence. Peter broke down the info in a concise and easy to understand manner. The installers were the same way. They came out to my home, introduced themselves, and got right to work. Within a few short hours, the system and installed. The lead installer walked me through what to expect next with the rest of the connection process (PECO connectivity and meter swap) and were just overall pleasant and professional. I would highly recommend them to anyone who asks

Makes a Complicate Process and Easy One

The process is a complicated one, but the team at Lumina made it simple. From putting together the proposal, to completing the installation, they helped us all along the way and made everything seamless. I particularly wish I could give more than five stars for schedule. Catie worked really hard to keep everything on schedule along the way which I really appreciated.

Solar installation Experience

"All visits for work and inspections were scheduled to our satisfaction and there were no surprises during installation or turn on. The system has performed as advertised , so much so that the only way I know our electric goes out is when I check my Tesla app and see we were on backup. The ENPHASE folks also provide a good monthly summary of my system performance that we find invaluable for future plans."

Great experience

I am happy to give a positive review of Lumina Solar. My initial consult with Peter DiGuardia was informative. We discussed options and he then customized a system for me. HE LISTENED and responded quickly throughout the process giving updates as appropriate. Installation day was exciting for me and professional from them. Nicholas Collins and Devin Jones(electricians) worked hard with a smile. They left no trace after project was complete-neat,careful crew. I was very fortunate with timing and credit Lumina solar with their knowledge and clerical fortitude to have all permit, inspections and other issues resolved. My system was running with power company’s approval 10 days later.

Great experience with Lumina

Had a great experience with Lumina Solar. Found them to be professional, prompt, and very transparent and clear throughout the process. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to go solar. Only regret is not having done it sooner. (Am trying to get my workplace to use them to go solar!)

Lumina was a pleasure to work with

The Lumina team were fantastic from the beginning of the project until the solar panels were up and running. Catie Meck led the initial assessment. She was extremely knowledgable about solar energy production and explained the entire process adding realistic timelines. Elayna Birch-Smith, the surveyor came out to the house and did a very detailed assessment of the existing roof (size for panels and condition of roof, inspected the electric panel, and the attic space. Dominic Redmond, lead installer, and Kenyan Williams, assistant installer knew exactly what they were doing and installed 35 panels in the course of a day. Very professional and efficient. Likewise, Chris Rose the lead electrician, and Devin Jones, electrician wired the system using conduit, etc. into the existing panel. All in all, a very neat and professional job. All of this took place seamlessly by Brooke Adolfo - the HOA / project administrator and Miranda Howard, the scheduler. Everything went as planned including permits, PEPCO notification and meter change, final Montgomery Co inspection and certification. All in all, the team was a pleasure to work with.
