Installation

We contracted with Freedom Solar Powet to install solar and the electrical part was fine they showed up and did their part however when it came time for installation of the panels and the commissioning they came 2 days after they said they would on a Friday. Workers informed us they were missing some product and had to go get it. They were gone for a long time, so they weren’t able to finish the installation and said they would be back Monday to finish. Monday came and they never showed up and no communication to let us know they weren’t coming. We had to spend our time tracking down why they didn’t show up. Now they are saying they can’t do it till that Friday. We are not sure if they will show up or not due to being too many excuses for not getting it done. This is not the way to treat customers whom has chose them to do such a big job. At this point we don’t know when it will be completed. I do not suggest freedom power for a solar panel job. Do your homework and shop around. Disappointed customer waiting for completion.

Poor Service After the Sale

Unfortunately this is what gives most solar companies a poor review. They are typically great when they are selling you the product and then when you need service after the sale they are dismal. I recently took over a large 163 panel system and am trying to get a technician to come out to the house to walk me through the mechanics of the system and to ensure everything is set up properly to sell my excess energy back to PEC. I advised the person that I spoke with at the company that I would gladly pay for the service call. I was 1st told it would take 2 to 4 days for someone to get back to me on an appt. I called back in today as it had been 4 days and she told me it could take 5 to 10 days for someone to get back to me. That's completely unacceptable. Setting up a service call shouldn't take 10 days ! I would normally advise to stay away from a company like this but this is basically how most Solar companies operate. My advise is stay away from solar in general. Buy the time you get your system paid for it's close to the end of life for the system. Save yourself the aggravation of dealing with them long term.

Very Poor Post Purchase Follow up

I purchased my solar panels and Tesla Powerwall from Freedom Solar and while they were quick to install their post installation service is terrible. Two months ago my Tesla Powerwall was deactivated due to potentially faulty cells that could cause smoke and possibly fire. While I am glad this was done to eliminate this issue it has been extremely frustrating in getting the Powerwall replaced. Freedom Solar said it would be months for them to get around to my replacement and that it would be best for me to contact Tesla directly. Needless to say I am getting no where with either Tesla or Freedom Solar. In hindsight I wished I would have went with another company. I cannot recommend Freedome Solar.

We haven’t been able to reach our salesman he’s pretty much stopped responding. Even had our solar for years and it was going ok. Now we are being charged to be able to access our solar information. So we don’t know if it’s working correctly. I also just read that part of the company has gone bankrupt. First mosaic and now this. Wow. So much for 20 years of service that we were supposed to have.

Good Product, Incredibly Poor Service Timelines

The Good: The front end of dealing with Freedom was great, their representative was the most honest, respectful, helpful of any of the reps I spoke with when shopping around and getting quotes. The installation process itself was great, and in general the system operates well. Everyone within the company that I have spoken with directly has been very friendly and tried to help. The Bad: If something does go wrong with the system, do not expect good support. I had one of my panels go down in January of 2024. It is now almost July of 2025 and it is still not fixed. I had another service appointment in a long series of appointments scheduled for today to finally fix it, so I took the day off work to be home and I just got the dreaded "we won't be able to make it today" text again, saying a scheduler would reach out at some point to schedule it for another time. Based on my experience so far, I expect it will be several weeks before I hear from them about setting up a new date. Over the last year and a half, I have taken over a week of PTO from work specifically for Freedom solar appointments where the technicians come to look at the system but are not able to fix (and because they don't give a specific time of day to expect them, I have to take the whole day off and wait for them to show up at some point - if they do show up). The service process overall has been very bad. Unlike most places where a scheduler will call you to figure out a date that works for you and then set it up, their schedulers pick a date without consulting you, schedule you in, and tell you to let them know if that date doesn't work, at which point it seems you get put to the bottom of the pile again if it doesn't work for your schedule. It took months to get someone out originally to identify the issue because the first few times they picked a date where I was not going to be in the country, so I told them that wouldn't work and would need to reschedule, then had to wait several more weeks until they got back to me and gave me another date. It seems ridiculous and unacceptable to me that I purchased a solar system and have been paying for it monthly for 17 months now while it has not been fully operational that whole time. Maintenance and repair of a faulty product should be a process that takes weeks to correct, not years.

Not happy

I was so excited about freedom solar they got out here and put up the panels within a month but now six months later and they still haven’t been turned on. I am quite unhappy with freedom it’s seems to be all sales and no follow through. They blame it on FPL but it seems to me that there’s no one doing any questioning of FPL my time line just keeps getting further and further away from ever going live.

I researched many solar companies before selecting Freedom Solar that had the highest recommendations. The SunPower panels that Freedom uses are the best in the industry. My installation went great and the panels are providing a high PV return. However, product support from Freedom has been very poor. The solar AP has not worked properly since installation four months ago. Initially, the AP firmware would not load and that took several weeks to correct. At that time I observed two problems: two pair of panels were reversed in their location on the Solar AP and the AP showed increased solar output every time the A/C or heat came on instead of increased home usage. After two months the AP was corrected to show the correct panel placement. However, the Orlando Freedom Operations has not addressed the Solar AP wiring deficiency. I have provided screen shots and copies of my FPL bills showing the apparent high solar power generation when in reality it is a result of deficient wiring of the Solar AP. I shudder whenever my A/C or heat comes on and the apparent solar generation as shown by the AP exceed the design capability of my system and the home usage goes down. I was told by Freedom customer service a third pair of CTs are required to be installed in order for the AP to operate correctly. Weekly calls to customer service and letters to the Orlando Operations Manager have not resulted in any service and are frequently not answered. As the chair of the Architectural Review Committee for my HOA I am recommending homeowners select another Sun Power installer other than Freedom Solar. Having reliable and quality service is a necessary element of a solar power installation.

Poor Communication

From contract signing to system turn on was 8.5 months. During this time communication for progress or lack of progress was very poor and mostly self initiated. The design had to be resubmitted to the county and this took about 2 months. The whole process was very frustrating. The system is now fully installed and working correctly.

Great Sales Process and Rep - Terrible Operations Support

We signed our agreement with Freedom in May 2023. As of August 24, 2023, our system is not operational, our payments have started, and I'm still awaiting some concrete plan and schedule for Freedom to come repair the damage they did during their installation in order for my project to pass inspections. First, our sales rep Aaron James, has been great throughout the entire process. He has delivered on great service since we started speaking with him about getting solar. After signing, our project was off to a great start and moving along quickly. The problems started when we failed inspection. It was found by the inspector that Freedom negligently drilled through one of the trusses in my attic, causing damage that needed repair and sign-off from an engineer. In addition to this, some more minor items needed to be repaired, such as correct amp on solar meter and securing wiring in the attic. This all happened just before July 4th week. Since then, I have received next to no communication from Freedom on my project or when the problems will be fixed. When I stopped making progress on my own, I reached back out to Aaron (our sales rep) and he started to inquire within the company what was going on and what was causing the delay. Aaron was able to get me some answers and has been in regular communication with me, but unfortunately, he can only do so much. To get my project done, I need somebody in their operations group to DO THEIR JOB. I've been promised call backs to get status updates and the phone has never ringed. When I call for answers, their customer service reps based in Texas kindly state they have noted my file and asked that I be contacted. However, still I wait. Something is seriously broken with their operations group and support team once they get you signed up. I believe if their installers would have done their job, my entire experience would have been flawless and happy. Unfortunately, if you have a project with any hiccups, it will be a long, hard struggle to get adequate answers and resolution. I truly hope that my project is completed soon and I can benefit from solar. But until I get proper support and project completion, I cannot recommend Freedom Solar.

Communication throughout the process and installation issues

After I had agreed to use your company to install solar at my house, I waited for several months before installation began. During this time, as I can to find out after several attempts to reach your employee who was supposed to be my point of contact, I finally found out that there were a series of inspections and approvals required before you all could begin installation. Then after installation I kept failing the utilities inspection. So I reached out to you all when my system failed the utility company inspection for the second time and I remained without solar power yet you all had marked the project complete and received the money from the lending company. My first payment to the lender was due before I ever had my system connected and running. For reference, you all had initially communicated to me around the end of April that install was complete, however my system was not actually completely connected and authorized for use until the beginning of July. Your guys never connected the power cables to the connection box for the utilities to connect to. Now the installation manager who took over my project after all of this fiasco was amazing and he worked miracles to get the system connected and utilities to come final inspect extremely quickly. But I am highly dissatisfied that when I reached out to your company initially to discuss my concerns about the installation and the fact that I was about to begin making payments on a non functioning system that your company wrote me back with legal disclosures saying that you all were basically finished and met your obligations to receive payment even if my system was not functioning because of inspections. I received no payment offset from your company or no attempt to make this right. And for that I will leave the same review on every site I can to ensure that other consumers are aware of the risks at installation and how those risks could materialize into making payments for a system which is not operable.

This company is a mess

We have been working with Freedom Solar for 10 months. We are still waiting for them to finish install. Every step and every time someone has come to the house there has been frustrations. The latest one being today. The electrician came out and cut the install wires too short so he can’t finish the job today. He also did not have the new electrical panel replacement we paid for on his “plans”. So our project is getting prolonged again because of two mistakes that were made today by their electrician and whoever writes the “plans” for the electricians project. It takes multiple phone calls to customer service to finally get someone to call me back that knows what’s going on. Freedom Solar has been a huge hassle to work with. Save your time and sanity and choose a different solar company.

Response from Freedom Power

Thank you for taking the time to bring your project concerns to our attention. Our Customer experience team has since been in contact with you and is currently ensuring that all of your concerns are properly addressed. The plan of action has been communicated to you and we will continue to update you as we move forward. Thank you again for your time.

Great salesman and communication in the beginning and throughout. Unfortunately they don’t explain the the size of your solar system is nowhere near what you will actually produce. We had a 21kw system installed, and 21kw might be what is produced if all panels were facing the sun at all times on a perfect day with no heat or clouds (they don’t mention that in high temperatures the panels don’t function very well). So all the sales “stuff” about savings and sold credit are total waste because they’re based on a system that doesn’t produce what they claim . . . Ever! So I was spending $450-$500 a month for electricity alone, and now I’m spending $375 a month for my solar financing and $150-$200 on my electricity. On top of that, they damaged my roof during installation (which they did pay for having repaired). So be careful during install and watch how many unnecessary holes they make in your roof. Finally, we’re on our third round of city inspections on the system because they continue to fail fire codes. All in all, not a great look!

Intolerable Supply Chain Problems

Over just the past 6-8 weeks, Freedom Solar has jerked me around on the solar panel products they have available to sell. First, it's the 425W panel, then the super new 435W panel, then only the 425W panel, and now the only panel available is the inferior 400W panel. I understand if product pricing fluctuates based on market conditions, but there's no transparency around the supply availability of solar panels. The quality of the panels makes ALL the difference. I cannot rely on what Freedom Solar tells me about supply chain issues.

Response from Freedom Power

Hello Jim, we are sorry for any confusion and want to assure you that you are getting the exact panels that you signed up for. We only offer superior panels and back them all with a 25-year guarantee and warranty. You can trust that what we sell to you is what we deliver and hope it gives you some peace of mind. They dropped the ball multiple times

I wanted to like this company but so far its nothing but headaches. They have had my $20k for 4 months and I still don't have an install date. They initially advised to put the panels on my shop because that was the optimal location so i agreed. After the interconnection was done and everything submitted for permitting it was denied by the city because my shop was never permitted. I would have thought that Freedom Solar would have checked that before wasting months of time. 4 months later and I'm still waiting on a new interconnection application to the power company. Freedom solar dropped the ball on getting this done in a timely manner as well. I initially referred a friend and he said he has had similar issues. I also haven't seen the referral bonus that was promised months ago and all i get are empty promises from Freedom Solar. At this point I'm very skeptical that they will credit my account with the referral bonus they promised me. Starting to think i should have gone with another company for solar...

Once Freedom Solar get your money, service falls off a cliff.

Initial install went well. And that's where the service quality stopped. Had to have them come and take the panels off for a roof repair. FYI- if you choose to use a different solar technician to remove the panels, it will void the warranty. Just getting the panels off was an ordeal. You have to pay upfront prior to removal and then again before reattachment. Ok, that's fine. However, the no shows for removal and reattachment, without any kind of notification is where I really felt like once they get your money they forget about you. So far they have been out to reattach, but did not finish the job and no communication as to why. I had been recommending this company to friends, but have had to inform them of the ridiculous difficulties I have recently experienced, and advised them to look elsewhere for solar.

Sugarcoated Buybacks and Savings, and Greatly Mislead

I am a CPA and thought I had all the numbers needed to make solar decision. This is suppose to save me money but no I would be paying more when monthly cost of panel is added to what I still have to pay the grid. Sales rep conveniently didn't mention that electric company buys everything you generated at one rate and sell back to you at the same rate (in some cases lower rate) plus all these other charges. TDU and flat monthly charges adds up. contrary to me expecting I generate for example 1000KWH and used 1000KWH and won't have to pay anything. They don't tell you you'll still have to pay TDU of like 5c/KWH and like $9 flat fee monthly Note: This is not Freedom solar charging this but they don't tell you this upfront. when they quote you and tell you how much you'll be saving. Also, my panel was installed, all approval done and nobody told me what I need to do next until I asked after a month and they told me what I need to do to turn it on. After another month, I had to call just to find out I had to switch the electric company myself, and I have to do all this research. This what contrary to what sales Rep said (they have electric companies they work with). Totally misleading. And yes, I spent time and did my research. These are things you won't find out until you actually get to switching electric provider. They should have let customers know ahead rather make it all look like it's just Apples for Apples just so they make their sales.

Savings not as expected

Had a 5.4 kw system installed that was supposed to cover over 80% of my electric bill. The system has been operating for over three months and the last two billing cycles without the additional fees included I am lucky if the bill is half what it was compared to the same month last year. Savings on the electric bill do not seem to be as much as we were sold on. Thermostat is set to what I had it before the solar panels were installed and not to mention this summer has been milder than last. Service and installation were good and I am happy to have solar just disappointed that the savings on my utility bill were not as much as expected. Another issue is that the monitoring software just describes what the system is producing and does not go into detail for each panel. No way to know if a panel is under-producing or malfunctioning.
