Great for Solar Panels, Not so great for Battery Backup

We had a very mixed experience with Boston Solar. The positives: Everyone we dealt with was pleasant and professional. The installers were polite and left the site clean and neat. The solar panel installation was efficient. The negatives: Although the proposed timeline was around 120 days, we are 8 months into the process. Our panels went live three days ago and we are still waiting for errors on our battery backup system to be diagnosed and corrected. So, we are 8 months and counting into the installation. It is the pandemic but Boston Solar only attributed one week of delay to a supply problem. Neither the installers nor our support team seemed to know anything about the Battery Backup system. The batteries were installed without regard for the fire/building code and had to be re-installed after we failed the first inspection (this process cost us more than a month and a lot of aggravation.) We have yet to receive any training on the system. I hope that is coming. Our panels are generating electricity which is great. The jury is out on the battery backup. I would recommend Boston Solar for solar panels with enthusiasm. For the battery backup system, I am much less enthused.

We had a great experience with Boston Solar

I was referred to Boston Solar by my t-shirt. We had been seriously considering solar and had a few interviews with companies and I just didn’t have a good feeling from them. Then I noticed that Boston Solar was a sponsor for a 5K race I ran in my small home town and figured if they cared enough to sponsor our tiny charity race then I should do some research and give them a call. The reviews were good and we set up a meeting with their solar consultant. We met over Zoom due to the pandemic and it was fantastic. I hope they continue the Zoom option because it was a lot more low pressure than the in person meetings. Rick was our consultant and it didn’t feel like a sales pitch at all. It was all about problem solving. He had a plot of our house ready to go and put together a rough outline of how everything would look, went over the cost, the ROI, the incentives, and so on. Everything that we went over in terms of cost and array size lined up with the research that we had done on Project Sunroof and meeting with other companies so that was reassuring. We knew we wanted solar but we wanted to find the right company to do the work. I think the tipping point for us was the fact that Boston Solar does everything in house, they have no subcontractors and everyone you work with is employed directly by Boston Solar. Many of the other companies use subcontractors and I was concerned I might have the “lowest bidder” putting holes through my roof. Once we signed the contract we were assigned a coordinator Olivia who guided us through the process and who answered our emails and questions often within the hour. The installation took 2 days with supports/conduit being run on day 1 and the panels installed on day 2. I spoke with the foreman and the electrician and they were really knowledgeable and answered my questions about future projects. We may want to add an electric car charger and are panels someday in the future. They also worked with us to make a change to the plan as once they were on site they saw a better way to run the equipment than originally planned. I also appreciated how Boston Solar treated their team. The installation was in the summer and it was a hot day on a hotter roof and I noted that they were cycling people out, giving breaks, and drinking lots of water. It’s the right thing to do for people’s health and beneficial to the homeowner, if you are tired you are more likely to make mistakes. The day after installation we had torrential rains which was a good test as we observed zero leaks to the roof. The project passed inspection without issue, national grid swapped out meter, and we just turned the system on and are producing power. We are really happy with our decision to install a solar array. It will save us a significant amount of money long term while helping our community by taking demand off the grid and generating renewable energy. Boston Solar Brings The Sunshine to Framingham

We were so very close to going with a different vendor. But I found John Sacco to be very transparent, easy to speak with, patient, and diligent in doing all of the research. 2020 was a difficult year as we all know, but I give Boston Solar alot of respect for keeping our project alive and moving it along at an appropriate pace.

Very professional and super technology

I was impressed from the very beginning. I did not want to work with a company that leased panels. Happy to hear that B-Solar only sold the panels. From the initial assessment I was impressed at how everything was explained from actual solar radiation with my home and how i would end up never having an electric bill again. Installers were outstanding and very clean. On time and professional.

Outstanding service at a good price

I started thinking of going solar few years ago but did not give it a serious attention until some months ago. I read a lot of reviews and contacted about 6 installers. Among the companies (national and local), I found Boston Solar outstanding in terms of initial visit, technical know-how, organization, timeliness, customer support and pricing. Starting with my first meeting with John, I was convinced of what I stand to benefit from solar installation. John presented his own zero dollar electric bill and explained how I can replicate the same. He wasn't "pushy" like some. He allowed ample time for me to decide. He was available to answer my questions. My installation process went smoothly despite the pandemic. Mali, my project manager is another outstanding staff of Boston Solar. He was on top of everything. The technical crew that installed the panels demonstrated high expertise. Unlike other panels installed near me, they ran the pipe conducting the positive and negative terminals through the attic so it wasn't visible on the roof. My panels are running fine and I am able to view both the production and my usage through the online program.

Very happy with Boston Solar installation, except for long delay

Boston Solar were recommended by a colleague. Their proposal was well presented and well explained, and competitive with another bid I received. Overall I was very happy with both the design phase and the installation team. The only downside was a six-month delay between design and installation.

Exceeded my expectations

I chose Boston Solar based on a friend's experience, and I was not disappointed. Very glad to have gone solar with Boston Solar. Every person I dealt with exceeded my expectations. The sales rep explained everything thoroughly; the project coordinator kept me informed of everything from applications to permits; the site planner arranged the conduits to be unobtrusive from the curb; finally, the install crew went out of their way to work with my general contractor moving the meters because the siding was being replaced. 5 stars!

After talking with several solar companies I decided to go with Boston Solar and couldn’t be happier with the decision. Their knowledge, expertise and professionalism was evident from the first consultation and continued through the completion of the project. In addition to the high quality products and workmanship, their customer service was top of the line. There is a significant amount of paperwork/coordination required to get the system online and they made the process as simple and easy as possible. I had a great experience and would highly recommend Boston Solar to anyone looking to make the leap to solar power.

Very Professional Company/Installer

Met with many installers and companies in the area. Only installer that knew their craft and went on my roof to actually see if what we talked about would work. I got the amount of panels and size of system that maximized my roof. Very happy that is also came with a guarantee on production. Now that the panels have been live for weeks, the info from the app is so helpful in determining my pay back and what else I can swap over to electric in my house to save more energy.

Great communication and amazing quality

I really appreciated the communication and teamwork throughout the whole process. I felt John really made a complex terrain easy to navigate and I didn't feel rushed or pressured into purchasing anything. I really appreciated Meghan's project updates and availability to answer my questions. The onsite project team were respectful of my property, communicative, and did an amazing job of installing the panels. To anyone looking to go solar, Boston Solar is an absolute must.

Boston Solar hit it out of the park

After review of more than 20 local solar companies we decided to move forward with Boston Solar.  We based our decision on client reviews, Better Business Bureau information, company size, company type. and of course price.  While there are many companies to select from we wanted one where solar was their primary focus and they used their own employees (instead of contractors) to install the system.  From previous experiences and from reading customer reviews we strongly felt that a company who leveraged their own employees doing installations would not only be more streamlined with the entire process but most importantly be more vested in the outcome of the final delivered product. Having been an Engineering Director for more than 20 years I have dealt with hundreds of vendors in many situations.  Boston Solar is one of the best vendor experiences I have ever had both personally and professionally.   The hand-offs between sales, evaluation, project management, evaluation, installation, inspection, and training were seamless.  The communication follow up by each of the groups upon task completion was timely and complete.  All the members of the installation team were polite, helpful, professional, worked diligently with surprisingly no breaks for lunch (because it was a long brutal traffic filled drive for them), and carefully walked around the house checking for any debris upon completion of the work.  I also liked the sense that I had that each of the Boston Solar employees we dealt with seemed to take pride in their work, which is a great reflection of the company and its management in of itself. We signed a contract with Boston Solar on April 23, 2019.  The system was designed and fully installed by June 5.  After panel installation our schedule was at the mercy of town inspection schedules and power company paperwork.  Our system went fully live generating power for the house as well as the grid on July 3rd.  All in all, 2 months for a 39 panel array installation is really impressive especially when one has to deal with local town inspectors and when one reads through the experiences of the clients of other solar companies.  Being a bit of a data geek I also immediately began reviewing the phone App prior to training.   I was very impressed with the ease of use and the amount of functionality available.  While still a little early to be certain, the preliminary data suggests the system is generating power at the predicted amounts. Without any hesitation we would HIGHLY recommend Boston Solar as they not only met, but exceeded every expectation we had and made this project a joy for us rather than a "now what????" experience

Highly recommend Boston Solar

I talked with four solar companies (3 local, 1 national) and Boston Solar was by far the most professional company. Their sales consultant got back to me when they said they would, answered every question, never pushed anything and happily worked with me on changes in the final design and configuration even as I asked for panels on a second roof. Their pricing was the same as the other companies and they waited patiently while I arranged my own financing. Their installation crew worked quickly. The true test of a company's quality is how they handle issues and Boston Solar took care of all the unforeseen issues that came up quickly and with no complaint. I wish all contractors were as good as Boston Solar.

Great working with Boston Solar

The experience of working with Boston Solar on my solar installation was great. Everything went as planned and I can't beleive it how quickly it was completed. We felt very comfortable from the initial consultation with Tom through Meghan managing the project. Meghan kept us informed and updated throughout and answered any questions I had along the way. I'm glad we stopped thinking about it and decided to get solar with Boston Solar!
