DO NOT BUY FROM AMBIA/SUNSOLAR
If you want to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a solar panel system, this is the company for you. BUT, if you want a company that will provide warranty service on that very expensive investment then don't buy from Ambia/SunSolar. The only service you're going to get is lip service. I've been trying to get a micro-inverter replaced for two months with no luck. And I have the part! When I threatened to file suit, the response from the agent made me think it wasn't the first time she had heard it. I don't recommend buying from Ambia/SunSolar.

I have been extremely disappointed with my experience with Ambia Solar! My solar panels were installed late August 2024, but they were not actually operational until late March 2025—nearly seven months after installation. Unfortunately, the problems didn't end there!! The system stopped working again in March 2026. I was told that Ambia monitors customers' systems for issues, but if that's true, they never contacted me. Instead, I had to reach out on May 20, 2026, after realizing the panels had not been producing power for almost two months. I received an email stating that a technician would come out on June 8, 2026, but no one showed up and the system is still not working. I called again on June 9 and was told someone from Ambia would reach out to me. As of now, I am still waiting. The most frustrating part is that have been making payments since November 2024 months before it was even functioning and I continue to make payments but it has only functioned for about 12 of the 23 months since it was installed. Between the lengthy delays, repeated outages, missed service appointments, and lack of communication, this has been an incredibly disappointing experience. They do not care!!! Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Ambia Solar.

This company sucks
Installed my panels. Nine were not working, then they got them up and running. Now, same nine are down again. Sent multiple emails, no response. No one picks up the phone when the number is called.

Find a different company!
This company is very unorganized and unprofessional. The process started out fine, our sales person was nice and informative. Once we signed the agreements and got things going, that’s when everything seemed to start falling apart and I started to second guess our decision. We had to sign the same forms multiple times due to error. Once they scheduled our installation they said it would take one, maybe two days to complete. They’ve been to our home to continue the installation at least six different days, so I had to continually take off of work. The first day of the installation went well, I thought. But then I got a call that evening saying that the entire crew had been fired but not to worry because someone else would be there to finish the next day. Well one of the people that were fired, ending up coming back the next day as well and was being paid off the books. Needless to say, the job was not finished and I still do not have my panels working. It’s going on around seven months since we originally started this project. The solar panels are installed now and I got an email saying the installation is complete 30 days ago and that I would hear back with next steps. I am still waiting and I have reached out and not heard back from anyone.

Lies and more misrepresentation
The sales representative lied to our face and when Ambia was contacted their response was "Do you have that in writing?" Their attitude was why should we care. Not our problem. Getting solar was worst possible decision. Promised no more power bill. Fact after getting the panels we have seen little reduction in the electric bill. Promised that our electric cost would go down. In fact it has now more than doubled with the solar payment bill. Finance terms were not what was explained. Promised on monthly payment. Now find out that for first 18 months only paying interest and then the amount will be increased to include principle payment. At the present time we are considering legal recourse. Do not buy from Ambia. Not worth the disappointment.

The installation was doe in3 days the team cleaned up every evening before leaving. However the service is horrible we had panels in late June. They came back about a week later to remove 3 of the panels. Since then there has been one excuse after another blaming Consumers our power company for the delays. We got in time for Ambia to get the $30000 tax credit as we’re leasing the equipment. It was over at the end of the year. Then we finally got the ok to interconnect with the power company. I called them and they said they would walk me through the startup. Of course it didn’t work. When I called again to have a specialist come out to start it up (the way they should have done in the first place) they said that the department that takes care of that will contact me. Still dead air. Ambia has been bought out by another solar company so be very careful to not buy from any company affiliated with Ambia.

Solar power
At first we were happy. Now that we are in the winter months our system isn’t generating power so now we have to pay our payment to Ambia plus a payment to our electric company. We were assured when signing up that our system would store enough energy in our grid to take care of the winter months. Now they say it was miscommunication from their sales representative! Don’t buy into this company!

Garbage Lying Cons
The sales representative RIchard Vella is a complete liar and conman. He lied directly to us about several things. He told us that our electricity would be completely covered by our system. Come to find out I am paying an extra $120 a month for $30 a month electricity credit. So now that I have solar from Ambia I pay $90 a month more for the same electricity used. When I reached out to them they blew me right off. I am going to contact the Michigan AG because this company is full of absolute conmen.

Hi Darren. Thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback. We understand your frustrations and share that frustration as well. Ambia no longer does business with this rep. While we do our best to vet our sales employees and provide thorough training on ethical sales practices that align with our core values, there is always the possibility that an individual may act outside of those expectations. We are happy to see that your system has already produced 61% of the estimated yearly production in the 41% of the year that is has been activated. As there are many contributing factors to your utility bill such as weather patterns, utility rates, and consumption pattern, savings are not something we can guarantee. Such is stated on the first page of the signed agreement. If you have any questions regarding your system performance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly.

Don't make the same mistake I did
I wish they would have reviewed their hiring practices a little better, as I wouldn't be out $56,000 if they did. My project didn't go smoothly, and now I'm paying both my electric bill and their solar panels, which wasn't the deal according to the employee they hired. Please don't make the same mistake I did and buy solar panels from them. My salesman had a recent fraud conviction, so obviously this company doesn't do very good background checks. I should have looked up the person's name before signing up. It would have saved me a lot of money and a giant headache dealing with everyone from this company. Lots of empty promises. One of the biggest mistakes of my life was doing business with them.

One of your wonderful D2D sales people, Brynlee, was at my door today, despite ignoring the very clear no soliciting sign. When I said I'm not interested and called out the sign, she then threw a rude insult my way saying "I probably don't make enough money to qualify". Very unprofessional coming onto my property, ignoring no soliciting signs, then throwing out insults when called out on it.

Horrible company
I’m currently sitting here with no power, even though the sun is shining! I’m charged an extra $3+ more every month, than the salesman quoted me. I was charged an extra $18 the first month, which they said was my fault for not signing up for autopay fast enough, even though their system wouldn’t let me sign up earlier than I did. The install team left trash all over my yard. When I asked the salesman for a number to call and complain, he gave me a number that no one ever answered. Overall, this has been a nightmare! If I could have them remove the whole deal, I would!

Misleading Practices and Unjustified Cancellation Fee
I had an extremely disappointing experience with Ambia Energy, particularly involving Scott Thurgood and Jeannette Quevedo. After signing an agreement with Ambia, I communicated with Scott Thurgood via email on May 29 to cancel the installation. Despite this clear and documented communication, I was later sent an invoice for a $492 cancellation fee, claiming the cancellation came too late. Jeannette Quevedo, copied on these emails, chose to pursue this fee instead of acknowledging the timeline and the good-faith effort I made to cancel appropriately. Ambia’s actions feel like a bait and switch. There was no follow-up from the company prior to their scheduling attempt, and the aggressive pursuit of a cancellation fee just days after my cancellation request is unreasonable and misleading. It gives the impression that Ambia's process is set up to trap customers into penalties. I made multiple attempts to resolve this matter fairly and directly with Ambia, but received no accountability. Their approach reflects poor business ethics and a lack of transparency. I would strongly caution others before entering into an agreement with this company.
Response from Ambia Solar
Hi Terry, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. Ambia provides a 5-day window after contract signing during which a customer can cancel the project without penalty. This policy is designed to give customers the opportunity to review the agreement at their own pace and make the decision that’s best for their financial situation. In an effort to reach a fair resolution, our Customer Advocacy team reduced the standard cancellation fee from 5% of the total project cost to $490. That said, as a gesture of goodwill, we will be waiving the cancellation fee entirely.

When the door to door salesmen came, I informed them that I was in the middle of getting my house refinance, and that if he had a card, I would call them back afterwards. He persuaded me to talk to a sales rep. Who I also informed that I could not have solar installed until after I was completely refinanced. I told him it would probably be best if I waited until after the refinancing actually took place. He persuaded me into signing this contract saying that it takes a while until they can actually be installed. And if I needed to push it back until after the refinancing paperwork was signed there would be no issues. Well, right before I was going to sign my paperwork to refinance my house. They were ready for installation. Days before I was supposed to sign my paperwork i was told I needed to wait 6 more months untill I would be able to refinance. I reached out in 6 texts tryn to let them know. I was told that it would be considered a cancelation and there would be fees. Those fees are over $1k incase you were wondering. I didn't plan on canceling i do intend on getting solar once I am completely refinanced. It will not be with this company!!

Poor communication and bad customer service
Like others on here I had to constantly stay on top of them. There was terrible communication from the home office and I had to fight them every step of the way. The installers they used damaged my shingles and gutters. It took months of fighting with them to pay for the repairs. It took months to get all the steps completed and once it was done, more time jus to be able to turn it on. The worst part was the email I received from Ambia congratulating me on qualifying for Xcel Energy's Solar Rewards program and they would be happy to help me apply for it. Turns out that has to be done before the project is completed, so I missed out on money because they dropped the ball and waited too long. I wish I had never worked with Ambia. There are so many companies in the market that would have done a better job. I will never refer anyone I like to Ambia Solar.

Then once you agree to move forward with the panels, you will be amazed to find that what he told you was 80% lies. To make it worse after the install he won’t return your calls or texts and his worthless company backs him up. Totally fraudulent sales people. Stay away from Ambia please!
Response from Ambia Solar
Ambia takes a strong stance against fraud and misinformation being provided to customers. We expect clear and accurate information to be given by the representatives we contract out to. These sales representatives are independent contractors and responsible for their own actions and conduct. Junk system, all calls, emails, and letters ignored
What I purchased: 34 panel 13.6 kW system for $63,000. What I got: 33 panels, a hole in my roof with water damage, wildlife invasion, grey concrete smeared on my white stucco as a "eh, good enough" repair, dozens of ignored text messages, emails and phone calls trying to resolve these issues. After I spent 7 months waiting for install to start and then 9 months paying the bill while being ignored before the part of the system that was installed was finally activated. And of the 33 panels that did get installed, 1 is basically decorative, with a total output of less than half of any other panel, and a second that's try, but if it gets to a full half of what the others produce it's having a good day. And a bonus: a letter written by an attorney demanding Ambia complete the contract and come fix what they broke. But Ambia ignored that, too. Didn't say "no", just didn't respond. They've got a slick sales process with charismatic people who will say anything but do the bare minimum. I'm sure the response will say something along the lines of "contact us at whatever@whatever.com" or call us at "1-800-WEFRAUD" or something, but since that didn't work the first the first 30 times I tried it, I'm going with another approach... Complaints filed with Utah AG, Colorado AG, Colorado DORA, Utah DORA, and the BBB, cause "why not?"

Poor customer service
We had our system installed in mid July 2024 and it was operational in mid-August. AMBIA was very communicative to get documents signed, payments made, and the install scheduled. Our install went mostly fine - friendly people, done in day. We first noticed a problem on September 29, 2024, when we had our first rain during a long drought season. We had a leak through our roof under one of the brackets for a panel. We reported the problem per our warranty, including photos and a formal letter. It took them two weeks to get someone out to look at the damage, find the hole in the roof that needed sealed, get a team out in a couple days after that to seal the hole. However, the damage to the house still has not been repaired and we continue us to see water leaks from the soffit down the side of the brick in that same spot. We have reached out to AMBIA multiple times since then, sent them more photos, and we have received one email back that their “field service team” is handling issues as promptly as possible. That was November 11, 2024. It is now December 12, 2024. I have sent two emails in that time with no response. We will apparently have to go through our insurance to get AMBIA to honor their warranty. We have had several other people in the neighbourhood ask to talk to us about our solar installation. We love that we are generating electricity and it has lowered our bill. But we would not recommend going through AMBIA to anyone.

MISLED & SCAM ARTISTS
I would never recomend to anyone to purchase these solar panels from Ambia based on the door to door sales process. I was lied to/misled on several key factors during the scam of these solar panels. I explained that these panels would not be good for my situation because I was planning to sell my house in the very near future and I didn't want any impedements during this process. I was told it would not impact us from purchasing a new home by the scamperson. I told the scamperson that I could not have a any loans that would show up on my credit because of my upcoming new home purchase. I was told it's not a "real" loan and it won't show up on your credit! That was a lie, it most certainly shows up on my credit and has caused me difficulty in trying to secure a mortgage. I also asked what happens when we sell the property. I was also told that when the property is sold, the panels are transfered to the new owners. It is not that simple, the new owners have to apply for credit to secure a loan to purchase the panels. What if their credit is tapped as a result if the home purchase? The process is not as simple as the scamperson made it seem! Prior to agreeing of an installation date, i called my scamperson and told him that we were definitely moving and would be selling our home. There was no need to proceed ahead with the solar panel installation because we would not be there to enjoy the potential savings benefit. We were told that we should still move forward because these panels would increase our property value based on Ambia's previous history of sales. We were also told again there would be no issues transferring the panels. Based on the sincerity if the scamperson i agreed to the installation. It was only after the installation that i found out about your convoluted transfer process. Interestingly, i asked multiple people from Ambia about the sale agreement/contract and I was told they didn't have access to the contract/sales agreement. How can a salesperson sell something without the capability of providing the customer with a sales agreement? Well, i finally got the contract and I'm sure you know already I got it after the period to cancel the contract! So now I'm stuck paying for panels that I really didn't want because of impact to my move. I will attempt to sell my property and get someone to purchase these panels and never ever consider solar panels again! This has been a nightmare and I didn't come knocking on your door asking for this trouble. This has clearly impacted my credit and ability to secure a mortgage! It is clear that you train scampeople to take advantgage of consumers that have no knowledge of the solar panel scam. If there was some legal action that I could take, I would certainly do so to get from under this scam! Sincerely, Shawn Hopson 412 719-4120

When I complained to Ambia Solar their only consolation to me was that salesman no longer works here. So my reward for choosing Ambia is a 70 dollar reduction in my power bill and 185 dollar increase for the crap solar panels on my roof.
Response from Ambia Solar
Hi Mark, we appreciate you taking the time to leave an honest review about your experience with us. In the agreement you signed with us in April 2024, it states that we do not guarantee any kind of savings in regard to your utility bill as all the factors that contribute to your bill are outside of our control - such as disruptive weather patterns, changes in utility rates, and personal consumption patterns. We gave estimates of your system producing 6,884 kWh yearly, and after checking your system in SolarEdge, we're glad to see that everything is in line with those estimates as of today. It’s important to note, however, that your system will naturally produce less energy as the days have become shorter, cloudy weather becomes more common, and the climate ultimately works against how much your panels produce this time of year. If you have any more questions or concerns, please feel free to call contact our customer support team at 877-412-7929.
