As of May 2024, the average cost of solar panels in Ashland is $3.03 per watt making a typical 6000 watt (6 kW) solar system $12,732 after claiming the 30% federal solar tax credit now available.
This is higher than the average price of residential solar power systems across the United States which is currently $3.00 per watt.
The size of a solar panel system also plays a role in how much the installation will cost.
Larger solar installations will typically have a lower cost per watt, because the panels can be purchased at a ‘bulk price’. However, these larger solar systems will still have a higher total cost, because they are made up of more individual panels.

Harvest Power and specifically Lenney Peters did an excellent job of making us feel comfortable with every step of the solar panel installation process. At the no-pressure sit-down meeting, all of the options were presented, with Lenney understanding our requests and needs and respecting them. Let me emphasize this point as this was a key piece in our decision making when shopping among solar companies. Where other companies were a bit patronizing, were trying to hand-hold, or even apply pressure, Harvest and Lenney understood that we knew what we were doing and had reverence that we had done a bit of research in advance. Another benefit of working with Harvest is that they also specialize in roofing, so the customer does not have to shop around for another, outside party in the event that one's roof does not meet the proper standards. We had gotten feedback about our roof from other parties, as well, so we knew the sales approach was genuine and sincere. It was reassuring that Harvest took care of everything, including the paperwork filing and all of the communications elements. Lenney personally makes himself available quite often and is passionate about his line of work. When he says we can reach out to him with any questions, I honestly believe we truly could, years later, and still receive the same level of care.

My experience was second to none. From the start, the insight, help and information made our project easy, stress free and almost effortless. They helped me understand better what needed to be done, what we could expect from them and the solar panels and even helped us navigate the loan options. I interviewed a few companies and they were by far the only ones forthcoming about the process and even installed in 1/3 the time they estimated.

The Delaware office and its techs have been very quick to respond and resolve our issues from beginning to end. Good knowledge people. I was nervous after the installation if we would ever hear from them again. They proved me wrong and stepped up to resolve my roof problems. I am glad I went with Venture Solar. They ordered the best solar panels for us and it has paid off. The workmanship inside the house on the electrical panel was excellent. Thank you Venture Solar’s Delaware Team.

Was very happy with the company until the leaks started. They said the roof was in good enough shape to put panels on. Now there's water POURING into my house and not only are they are saying it's not their fault, but that there were holes there before they put them on. So why did they not mention that before? They are now charging me hundreds of dollars to take the panels off to replace a roof that passed THEIR inspection less than a year ago. I am so surprised by the customer service for an issue I thought would be a non issue. You gave an inspection, saw no issues, but now say the holes were there and that’s not your fault? Water pouring in your house is incredibly stressful and I expected more.

I’m happy to give this review as my experience was very positive with New York State Solar. After years of contemplating solar and after narrowing it down to 3 different companies it was my salesperson that finally made me comfortable enough to explain it all to me in detail where I decided now was the time to commit to getting it. Special thanks to salesperson Danny (Cheong) who was very nice to work with along the way. He made things clear and was in constant contact every step of the way (even on his honeymoon.) I have since recommended him a few times and will continue doing so. If you are looking to get solar he is worth listening to. Contact him at DCheong@nystatesolar.com

Where there is no specific pricing information available for a brand then we have used state pricing data for that brand.
Solar panel manufacturer | Avg. cost per watt |
---|---|
Canadian Solar | $2.83 |
LG Solar | $3.37 |
SunPower | $3.54 |
Panasonic | $3.41 |
LONGi Solar | $2.72 |
The most important difference between buying solar panels and any other purchase is that solar panels last 25-30 years. This is a long, long time and you will need customer service over all that time. The reviews below of the two largest corporate solar installation companies indicate larger corporate solar companies are not delivering this support to their customers.
We recommend you find a small or mid-size, local, family-owned solar company. These companies tend to care more about you and your specific job. You don't want to be on hold to a corporation's call center for the next 25 years!
The cost of solar doesn't just include the equipment and installation costs - it’s also made up of permitting costs, inspection costs, and installer profit margins.
These different components are what make the price of solar fluctuate between installations. Some of the factors that affect solar power system installation costs for specific homes include:
Homes that use more electricity will need more solar panels to cover their energy needs.
Although solar panels do get cheaper on a per-watt basis, the overall cost of the system will increase as more panels are added.
But, the higher a home’s energy usage, the more solar panels can save the homeowners on their energy bills.
The price of solar panels can vary depending on the type of solar panels you choose.
There are two main types of solar panels for residential solar installations: monocrystalline and polycrystalline. Monocrystalline solar panels tend to be more efficient and more expensive than other solar panels. Polycrystalline panels have a lower efficiency rating and come at a lower price point.
The type of inverter you buy will also influence the cost of your solar system.
You may see some solar quotes with prices that seem too good to be true.
If you get quoted for a ridiculously cheap price, the installer might be using low-quality equipment or an unsustainable pricing model. You want to use a solar installer that is charging enough so that they can stay in business - as you’ll be relying on them for the next 25 years!
It’s important to make sure that your installer is giving you the best quality at the best price possible. This is why getting multiple solar quotes is so important.
The overall cost of solar can be influenced by the solar incentives available.
Across the U.S., homeowners can apply for the federal solar tax credit. The solar tax credit makes installing solar more cost-effective by providing homeowners with a tax credit equal to 30% of the cost of their installed solar panel system.
Local solar tax incentives and rebates can end up saving homeowners thousands on a solar installation, especially when they’re used with the federal solar tax credit.
See what solar incentives are available in your area by using our solar panel calculator.
The cost of installing residential solar panels in Ashland varies with the brand of solar panels and inverters you choose, the installation company you choose to install them, the relative ease or difficulty of installing solar panels on your home, and of course the amount of solar panels you need. The amount of solar panels you need is, in turn, related to your energy usage.
The table below shows the data extracted from a real life quote delivered through the SolarReviews marketplace recently for a fairly typical home in Ashland.
As you can see the payback period is relatively short and equates to a much better return on investment than he historical returns that have been available from investing in things like shares or property.
System information | Value |
---|---|
System Size (for 100% usage offset) | 9.22 kW |
Annual power generation | 12,203 kWh |
Pay-back time (assuming Cash purchase) | 5.6 Years |
Internal rate of return (IRR) on investment | 15% |
Gross cost | $25,487 |
Total Upfront Incentives and Rebates | -$11,626 |
Net Cost of System after rebated and incentives | $13,860 |
Total Cost of Utility Power Avoided over 25 years | $75,242 |
