superb installation experience in Red Hook

After having installed a solar power system with a big national company at a second home in AZ about 3 years ago, I had planned to go with them at a combination new/existing structure at my main home in NY. I feel so fortunate that I'd noticed the many Hudson Solar signs in my area: they provided a MUCH more pleasant, efficient, and ultimately economical solution to my needs. The national company could/would not deal with a building under construction, despite clear indications of a roof area that could be used, and they continue with their annoying/frustrating corporate communication model, where representatives/concierges/etc. appear and disappear. Hudson Solar could adapt easily to what was on the ground and what was to come, their communication and hierarchy was clear, constant and personable, and they had a larger selection of panels to choose from. The whole process was MUCH smoother, simpler and faster than dealing with the competitor - and I couldn't be happier with the system that has now been up and running for several months.

Solar Installation

The process started oh so well. The Project Manager was very knowledgable and informative, providing some good insight to the process and the federal and state incentives. Note that the Project Manager is just a name for a sales guy. Once I'd signed, I never saw him again. Hudson Solar took so long to get going, that I had to apply for the EnerBank loan a second time. This has impacted my credit score ! The installation crew were very good to deal with. Friendly and polite. However, following the install, Hudson Solar did arrange for the first inspection. It was left to me to arrange the Town inspection, but strangely Hudson Solar called to confirm the town inspection I had scheduled. The system has been operational now for four months. So far so good, but not once has anyone from Hudson Solar followed up to ensure everything is OK. I also just found out that to get consumption data in addition to the solar energy production, I need a consumption meter. This was never raised in any prior discussions, so something that provides the much needed reporting of overall energy usage is an priced option rather than being a standard element - something I think most people would want. I've been quoted $650 for installation. There are 3rd party devices that are now coming to market for home owner install that are less that 50% of this quote. If I had my time again, I would not select Hudson Solar.

Sunpower Equinox

We purchased a SunPower Equinox AC system in June 2016. We are very happy with our system as we have not had an electric bill since activation. I did a great deal of research before making the choice to go with Sunpower. Their systems produce on average 40% more power than the competition over a 25 year period and they are designed to last over 40 years. There are no competitors that come even close to this. For 25 years you will have a guarantee on power production which is the best in the industry. Aesthetically, the system has a very small thumbprint. As you'll see from the photos there is hardly anything to it. Because the system is so small if we needed more power later we could easily add more of these high efficiency panels. We are currently switching out appliances that run on gas for those that are electric in order to take advantage of our free electricity. The amount of power we use does not even come close to the amount that we produce. Hudson solar was very professional and courteous. I highly recommend them, and of course I highly recommend Sunpower. We get compliments all the time by our neighbors about how nice the system looks. This is the best investment I have ever made. 

Local installer doing the right thing

I had researched solar for about 1 year. I looked at 6 different companies. Hudson solar gave me more for less than any other company. They explained the process from start to finish. The best part is that they are local to me which meant even more. I have had the system for 2 months now and have been very happy. When the CEO visits you on site gives an special touch. The entire company cares and will take care of you. I highly recommend for the best choice.

Great Company!

We came to Hudson Solar through going to a meeting Solarize Wappingers had at the Vassar Barns on the Vassar Farm. We chose Hudson Solar because it was local to the Mid-Hudson Valley. The whole process of working with Hudson Solar was informative and easy. Before coming out to our site, our Project Manager had looked at Google Earth to make a preliminary determination of the best places on our site to place solar panels. He led us through those and we jointly decided on the garage roof. The Project Manager suggested trees to be removed, but the decision was up to us. Our next visit was from Work Crew Foreman, who looked at all of our electric systems and figured out what needed to be done. He also kept us up to date on the crew’s progress on other projects and let us know when they would begin here. Once begun, they took only two days to install our system, a third of the first day being lost due to a heavy rain storm. The foreman then returned to walk us through the recording system, and a couple of days later CenHud installed our new meter and we were set to go. Hudson Solar took care of all of the legal issues with construction and also of contacting Central Hudson. We enjoyed working with all of the people of Hudson Solar and have enjoyed our system – though since today is a blizzard, we haven’t gotten any solar power! We recommend Hudson Solar with enthusiasm and no reservations.

Residential System

Hudson solar did a large installation for my employer and I was impressed with their professionalism. We had the rep come out to the house and evaluate our location after some initial communication and planning via satellite photos. I discussed my preference for the panels - on the barn not the house - from an aesthetic standpoint and he did a walk around. Long story short the planning, location, financing and installation were excellent. They handled all the permits and grants and set up the install date. I met with the crew when they arrived and showed them around and they were courteous and professional. As they described, 4 days later we were activated and making solar electric. Recommend highly - hope to have them do our lake house as well.

Successfully installed system on a very difficult site

Hudson Solar installed a ground-mount system for me several months ago, and overall, I'm very satisfied so far. The system was installed on a very tough, sloped, rocky site--so tough that several other installers declined the job, and I decided to contract separately for site preparation and system installation. Hudson Solar handled the installation, and worked cooperatively with the site prep contractor. They delivered as promised in their contract, the system has passed all inspections, and it is generating the amount promised.

Small Company - Great Results!

This company, though local and relatively small, has far surpassed my expectations for quality, price, and service. Every decision was made with consideration for the long term value of my home and the success of the installation. One particular notable effort was the careful attention paid to the wiring conduit as it came off the roof. They had to fish it under the roof from a crawl space in the attic to have it emerge from the soffit, where it could be hidden next to the gutter drain pipe. This was a real pain but they did it because that was the best possible choice. 5-stars!!!

Sunpower PV Panel Install

Very happy with the whole process. I met with sales, engineering and installation teams over the course of the project. Every person seemed dedicated to making sure every installation decision was explained to my satisfaction (and I did have questions). A very professional organization. I was impressed with how well they coordinated the involvement of the the electric utility, the building department and the necessary inspections.

Fantastic Service

My husband and I had tried three other solar companies before getting a referral to try Hudson Solar. Finally, we found a company who's hardware would work on my 1930's home. This company went above and beyond to help get our panels installed. They never gave up! Our town where we live keep putting roadblock after roadblock but they were persistent and didn't give up. Finally after months, we now have our solar panels up and running. It feel terrific. We would recommend Hudson Solar to anyone who is interested in helping the environment and their pockets. Can't say enough about this company.

Domestic installation

Hudson Solar installed an eighteen unit panel on my roof in June. The unit's performance completely meets my most optimistic expectations. Throughout the entire installation process from first meeting to engineering proposal, installation, and follow-through, I found Hudson Solar to be highly competent, professional, timely, and easy to work with.

Education a must

I did quite a bit of time educating myself about different types of installation and buying vs leasing. Hudson solar made the most sense and they were easy to work with and helped us get all our rebates. We are getting benefits from having bought our system. I would recommend them.

Pittsfield Ma Solar install

Very Pleased with my 5,8 kw system installed by Hudson last September, although I wish I had filled the south side of my roof (could have added another 3 or 4 panels for a 6.8 kw). Although there were some issues in the beginning when a new Project Manager took over due to the original one moving on to another job opportunity IE. I needed to do some pushing and prodding of electric company and inspectors to get everything in order so install could start which should have been handled by Hudson Solar. Install team was very professional and tidy! Engineering Team was very educational when I came up with some questions and concerns after the install had started and quickly resolved some reporting issues I was having with my Revenue Grade Meter. So far I am at approximately 103% of expected output for the first year!

Great Job!

Starting with the site visit to go over details, working directly with us to customize the inverter installation, and completing the entire set up in a timely and professional manner--we've been impressed with Hudson Solar from beginning to end. All personnel from sales to tech to project supervisor were friendly, conscientious, responsible, capable and committed to doing the best job possible, as if they were installing the system on their own homes instead of ours. Bravo!

Excellent service, satisfied customer

Our system was installed in mid-February and we are extremely pleased. Hudson Solar did a lot of hand holding through the entire install process - from walking us through every document and making sure we maximized our rebates and tax incentives. Every employee we have encountered was extremely friendly, professional, and thorough in their explanations.

I had a solar system installed by Hudson Solar end of year 2015. Thus far I am very pleased with the system. It has met or exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend Hudson Solar for the Install. From day one the people I interacted with were very knowledgeable and professional. Everything they said they would do was done exactly how and when they said it would be done. Whenever I had a question I got immediate and accurate responses. This remained true even after the install was completed and they were no longer under any obligation to respond or assist me.

Local Company, Quality People, Quality Equipment, Quality Work

I wanted to use a local/regional company that had been in business for a while. They were doing solar panels before it became fashionable, so I valued their experience and their record of success was not from massive national advertising campaigns. If I had a problem, the phone wasn't answered out West somewhere, but in the Hudson Valley. I also know many issues are from many companies using less than quality components. Hudson Solar uses all quality equipment. I had done a lot of reading, so I didn't really need to be sold. Hudson Solar handled all the paperwork and did all the contacts, from the filing for the building permits, filing with the lenders (I bought, not leased), arranging things with the Utility (Central Hudson), arranging for inspections, dealing with NYSERDA for the rebates. In addition, they easily dealt with a special issue with my install, as I had a generator hookup at the meter. They engineered a solution that would still allow me to use the generator if needed during an extended power failure (say at night when the panels aren't operating,) As with any outdoor construction project, you are at the mercy of the weather, but the install was done within the week. The install crew were friendly, professional, accommodating and informative., To be succinct , they knew their stuff. They left the worksite neat and clean everyday. Upon completion, the Project Manager Josh explained how the system worked, the controls, the monitoring system. I haven't had to do any follow-up, but even after they had my money, they were very responsive. I would heartily recommend Hudson Solar if you want a quality, experienced, knowledgeable LOCAL company for your solar electric project.
