Best contractors on Whidbey Island

In 2015, I had 48 x 280W panels installed on my shop and just recently (Jan 2025), I had WSW install another 21 x 430W. Paul was extremely helpful in engineering both systems that have worked flawlessly. The installers were excellent and professional. Adam and Kyle both worked on my systems 10 years apart. Those two and several others, have been with WSW for a long time, employee loyalty we rarely see anymore. Says a lot about ownership, thanks Paul.

I waited 2.5 years to write this as I wanted to see how my solar worked out. First, Paul and his crew were very responsive during the bid process. Their estimate for how much energy I could produce was well under what I had estimated myself. (spoiler alert - Their estimate has been almost perfect over the time I've had my solar...) They were also upfront that, at that time, they were very backed up on installs. I think they gave me an estimated install date that was about 4 months out and they were ready right on time. (I have no idea what their backlog is right now...) Second, the crew that did the install was efficient, friendly, and took care to do things right and take care of my property while doing so. 100% recommend. Third, last summer (about 2 years after the install) I noticed one of the panels was not producing nearly what the rest were. I called, Paul was able to diagnose what was wrong over the phone, and said they would order the parts and fix it. I expected a bit of a delay, but they were out there replacing the defective part much sooner that I expected. Overall, this was a great experience with a friendly, honest contractor who delivered exactly what they said they could. I would hire them again without reservation. Thanks guys!

Quick, Professional, and Helpful!

Paul and his team were amazing! Not only did they communicate quickly, they were quick to get the work done and had everyone lined up (PSE, electricians, installers, etc.) so there was very little time wasted or stuff we had to do - no mess, no hassle! They were all professional - we had little kids and a dog running around and no one was swearing or smoking or trashing the place - everyone was polite and courteous, timely, and worked well together. Additionally, they were very helpful with all the questions I had, and Paul came out at the end to walk me through the whole system and teach me everything I needed to know, and has been there after the install as well to follow up and ensure the panels were performing as expected. Whidbey Solar & Wind did a great job with our solar system install. From our first meeting until closeout the interactions were clear, timely and helpful. They did not oversell us on things needed (such as batteries ) by understanding what we had (including an existing generator). The cost was very clear and competitive. The calculations were based upon our actual yearly use. The design was simple and straightforward. They took care of all permits and inspections required in a very timely manner. They installed faster than their original estimate with no surprises along the way. Turn on by the power company was followed immediately with a final walk through of the system including an easy to use app to monitor the system remotely. The system is working great!

Whidbey Sun and Wind did a fantastic job

Our garage/office space was new construction and broke ground just a bit before COVID hit. WSW installed solar panels, inverter, battery, and ran circuits to the separate house. They also wired the new building. I can't complement them enough as to how they navigated crazy supply chains, uncertainty with the builders, and working with us to keep us informed about what was going on. I especially appreciate that they used the long installation time to find solutions to our high load amps when the well pump kicked in. Paul and Golda and team kept up to date on the new technologies and were able to source a newly released higher capacity inverter to do the job. The time also allowed us to get a slightly larger battery for the same money because costs kept coming down and technology going up. Can't recommend them enough.

Extremely Knowledgable, Professional Solar Installers

Whidbey Sun & Wind (WSW) did a terrific job on the install of 9.5 KW on our custom home. Our roof was 20+ years old and they worked with us to provide our roofers with all the panel posts in advance. Each phase of the project went smoothly and they even helped with referrals to Puget Sound Cooperative Credit Union (PSCCU) so we could get excellent rates on the solar install as well as a percentage of the roof that was underneath the panels. All of which will give us a tax credit this year. I also had a Seattle group that advertises heavily for a quote and they were substantially more, plus they pushed for a lease where they kept the tax credits...so glad I worked with WSW.

Honest and first rate

This was our second system they have installed. They take the time to explain all the options so you understand what to expect and what not to expect. There was no pressure to buy and both systems perform as expected. A very pleasant experience overall.

I had a 8 kWp PV system installed with a backup system of two 10 kWh batteries and an interconnected EV charger. The team did a great job, working through terrible spring (windy/rainy) weather. Paul has been fantastic troubleshooting some technical/firmware issues. Overall, a hardworking, honest, and very proficient team who I feel confident working with for the long term.

Professional friendly install all the way

WS&W showed up when they said they would and the installation went quickly and without a hiccup. On arrival the installers came up with a more aesthetically pleasing infrastructure design than originally proposed and executed the same. They were patient with my questions and respectful of the property. Inspections from PSE and the state went without a hitch. Their follow up visit walked me through the operation and the internet based monitoring from my PC. It's early times in the operating phase, but so far I have no complaints.

From soup to nuts, amazing experience: Quote was informative, full of new info even after doing a lot of research myself, and got all of our questions answered Communications was great, plenty of advanced notice, what to expect, and when Execution - The inspector who inspected the work asked "was this Whidbey Sun & Wind?" I said yes, and he said " I LOVE those guys, I haven't had to write a correction order for years w/ their work" Oh, did I mention the quote was > 35% less than the other two we got? Amazing bang for our bucks.

The Best Team Installing Solar In The Pacific Northwest

I am retired from the electric utility industry and really wanted my solar system to be installed by professionals who knew what they were talking about. I had 3 estimates from local solar companies including Whidbey Sun and Wind (WSW). WSW had installed the solar systems at the homes of two friends we knew, and came highly recommended Paul Dickerson from WSW provided our estimate and answered all my many questions about sizing, battery storage, automatic transfer to the battery in the event of a power outage. Paul had the most through knowledge of systems and equipment of anyone who provided us an estimate. The installation team of Golda Moore, Kyle Collins, Adam Wundrow , and Josh Robinson were the best! You could tell that they had installed many systems and really worked as a team to do the install properly. Golda is an amazing licensed electrician, who went to great lengths to make sure the wiring exceeded code requirements and would be easy to maintain for years to come. I can't say enough good things about the team at WSW!

Local and great

I never considered any other contractors for my P-V system because Whidbey Solar is located very nearby and because they had done systems for several neighbors. My new system was done quickly and without drama, and began producing power right away. Very pleased!

Whidbey Sun and Wind came out, gave a reasonable estimate, came back in a reasonable time and did the install in a day and a half. The crew was friendly and efficient. I'm extremely happy with the work they did- the installation looks good. And they returned to explain it to us. The Electrical inspector even raved about them- ALL GOOD!

Through wind and storms

Whidbey Sun and Wind performed well and was easy to work with throughout an abnormally difficult install. My project manager was knowledgeable and communicated clearly throughout the design and installation process. He also was willing to find answers to my questions even if he didn't know the answer immediately. The installation team was friendly and professional, and everyone involved was willing to put in hours around the available schedule which included putting up with the NW weather patterns. There was a power outage due to inclimate weather when the system checks were scheduled to be performed. The team came back when power returned and began commissioning the system, only to have to spend hours troubleshooting what ended up being a manufacturing issue on one of the system components. At no inconvenience to me Whidbey Sun and Wind took care of all of the interfacing with the manufacturer to make sure the malfunctioning component was replaced. The system works great and looks just as good. The final invoice matched exactly the quoted project amount despite what must have been 16+ man hours of additional labor. I highly recommend Whidbey Sun and Wind.
