We researched several other companies and were undecided until Unique was recommended to us by a knowledgeable family member. Their staff, including ALL of their workers on the job site, are exemplary in their work ethics and integrity. John Andre was our contact with them and he very patiently walked us through the whole process & stayed on top of the work schedules and their electrician, Andre, was fantastic in explaining all he was going to do along with educating us of what to watch for & reiterating how the system was going work....And now we have solar too, along with all of the rest of our neighbors...YEA! By the way, they are an all inclusive company with all of their own in house contractors…electricians, installers, roofers, etc. I would highly recommend Unique Solar to anyone for their solar needs.

Their team ensured that we were aware of all the options available to us, and kept us informed during every step of the installation. I had a great experience with Unique Solar. We did a major house remodel this summer and took our time, but Ulf and Jeff were patient with me and walked me through every step, including the tax credit portion, which is a big reason why I made the decision to include solar during the remodeling process. Once I said, "Let's do this," Ulf jumped on the permitting process, and my solar system was installed pronto. Also, I got bids from four other solar companies and Unique, by far, was the best deal. That was very important to me as well since the house remodel was costly.

We had been looking for a good solar company for a couple of years and Unique Solar was recommended to us by a very picky friend in Orange County. If he was happy I knew that they were the right company. They came to our home and were very professional. They listened to what I wanted as far as size and quality of solar panels and their placement on the roof. We signed our contract on December 15, 2016 and the installation was approved by the City of San Diego and SDG&E and was operating on January 5, 2017. Had to be a world record! I can monitor the solar panel power production on my cell phone and everything works as advertised. I highly recommend Unique Solar to anyone who wants a PV system.

After 3 estimates we chose Unique because we thought they were honest and submitted a fair quote. We initially met with Jeff and had a follow up meeting with Ulf, the owner. We were sold! They have the experience and expertise to answer questions and get the job done on time and on budget. I was very nervous about installing solar panels on our nearly-new tile roof. Ulf and Val (lead installer) took extra time to contact our roofer, chatted with the roofing company more than once, and ultimately took care of my concerns. I picked Unique Solar for these reasons: Unique was very flexible and easy to work even when I asked to modify the equipment package. (switched to micro inverters, changed to black panels, and added 1 extra panel for all that air conditioning I was going to do :-) Equally important - they installed the system in less than 30 days - as promised. Their installation team did a great job too. My neighbor (who also has solar) commented on the outstanding attention to detail that Unique delivered compared to his installation. Understandably, I was looking for a solar installer that would be as concerned about my brand new roof as I was. The highly rated roofing company I used, shared that the owner of Unique Solar was previously in the roofing business! After learning this and seeing these 5 star reviews, I knew my brand new roof would be safe with these guys. Their proposal clearly identified the equipment I was going to receive. I was able to go right the manufacturers website were I learned more about the excellent warranty and the panel and inverter options. (I wasn't able to perform the same activities with Costco's proposal.) We have to say that Jeff is not only an outstanding sales person but also a very caring, thorough, patient and knowledgeable Unique Solar Representative who did not use sales pressure to explain what would be entailed with a solar system, how it functioned with SDGE Grid and Net Surplus Compensation to the details of the installation. We really appreciate how he did not pressure us to go solar, waiting for us to decide (oh over 2 months) and addressing all our concerns. He has awesome customer service skills, active listening and thorough follow up to address our needs and concerns. I have to say that I am a little bit sensitive to the noise levels when work is being done on the roof....he made sure he called his installers to consider my request and needs. Overall we are very very satisfied with this company and will definitely use them again...and have already recommended them to two neighbors. Not to mention they have very competitive pricing and they use quality products as well. They met all their deadlines and worked very hard with such a time crunch to work with our new roof project.

We narrowed a large list of solar contractors to 10 and then 3 to bid on our residence. Unique Solar, Ulf Waldman's, company was the successful bidder. He is very knowledgeable about the details of a solar energy system. And also importantly, roofing installations. You need a good roof under your panels. He is personally involved in his projects and helpful throughout, unlike many larger companies having large sales force that disappear once you sign on and begin your installation. We continue to work with him as he monitors or system. And we recommend him to our friends and neighbors.

Unique Solar was one of 4 companies who bid on our Solar Installation job. Consistent with other posts here, Ulf and his company were very competitive, really understood the technology and design tradeoffs. We selected Unique Solar and they handled all of the permitting, installation and in the end, were able to save 2000$ through reuse of our 200A electrical panel (which has a center-feed design) through working with the city of Poway. Excellent workmanship and attention to detail. Very satisfied customer.

If you are looking for a solar company to work with, Unique Solar is the best. Their sales person Jeff is extremely knowledgeable to work with and is more of a consultant than a high pressure sales person that is out for a quick buck. I sent a series of questions posed by an engineering friend, who had installed his own Solar Panels, to a variety of Solar Panel installers. Most of them answered the questions within a week, one, Unique Solar, within a day. Depending on their answers I sent off a second, and actually a third set of questions; most of the major installers took weeks to answer and some didn't answer at all. Unique Solar answered them all within the day and my engineering buddy said his answers were spot on; all of the parts were of the highest quality. The installation went flawlessly and the panels were so neatly aligned on the roof that I think the roof even looks better now! Ulf, the owner, even came back to instruct my electrician on how to create an outlet in the garage that I could use if SDG+E went down. It was a pleasant surprise to find all of this was done at a price substantially less than the "major companies" had quoted. Highly recommended.

Unique Solar is a great installer of solar panels, no pressure sales tactics like many competitors, very knowledgeable about all details, and also for a very competitive price. They were able to address all my questions and concerns, and could work to get the slightly unusual electrical panel in our house approved by the city without the need for expensive rework. The system has been working for 3 months and is exceeding their estimates. I fully recommend this company.

Love it! We had the space available for a ground installation rather than the roof and it's worked great. The ground mount wasn't subject to the roof pitch and allowed Ulf to set the angle for maximum sun exposure. It's also easily accessed for cleaning. Awesome company to do business with! I recently put in a pool and my power bill was going up a lot. I was referred to Unique Solar from a good friend that had just used them for his house. I met with Jeff and Ulf on multiple occasions. These guys are very knowledgeable and give you straight answers on everything. Jeff comes to you house and the first thing you feel is his honesty an integrity. Ulf has a roofing background and knows solar inside and out. This was a no pressure relaxed purchase for me. We've all had solar guys hunt you down at Home Depot or knocking at your door seaming like used car salesmen. Not these guys. Simply a great experience. FYI, we put in about 24 Samsung 305 panels. This system is kicking butt. It's producing much more than anticipated! I am happy to refer Unique Solar to anyone in looking to go solar.

When I was researching whether to go solar I had five solar companies come to my house and give me an estimate. Most of them were not informative and focused on selling. I was very disappointed in their presentations. One of them was so insistent on making a sale that I finally asked him to leave. Unique Solar was different from the others. They knew their business and were very polite, without sales pressure. I chose Unique solar to install my system. They did the job to my complete satisfaction. I had a few roof tiles that had broken a year ago and could not find the replacements. The size was discontinued. Unique Solar found the correct size and replaced them for me at no charge. This is above and beyond what you would expect and it confirmed to me that I had made the right decision to use them for my solar project. Oh, I need to mention that they were less expensive than the others but that is not why I chose them. The first month that the system was activated I generated more energy than I used. Take that SDG&E. I understand that the rebate will go away soon so you should consider going solar sooner rather than later. Also SDG&E is going to ask for a surcharge for people who are going solar. If you do it now you will avoid the added surcharge. I am completely satisfied with Unique Solar and I recommend them to anyone looking for a professional honest solar company. Ulf at Unique Solar designed a solar panel system that met our budget and exceeded our expectations and was professionally installed down to the meticulously detail. Today we enjoy a tremendous energy saving per month and are less dependent on SDGE. Ideally, we would like to be completely off the grid in the future but due to current prices on batteries, that for now is cost prohibited. But in the next 5-7 years it is projected that costs will drop and going off the grid maybe come a reality. We shopped around for Solar Panel systems, talked to many companies and we found Unique Solar to be the one to go with. My roofing guy had recommended Ulf Waldmann and Unique Solar to us. I met with their sales representative Jeff Hornick who was honest, informative, and low key in his sales approach with no pressure for a quick sale. Besides, I am not one to make a decision without doing my homework. I had gotten at least three other bids and prepared a comparison chart on all four solar companies. Unique Solar, a local family owned business offered the most competitive pricing of the companies I received bids from. The fact that their owner, who I also met before my final decision, would be on my roof overseeing the job was also a key factor in our decision. Plus he came with many years of roofing experience which was important because we had concerns on how our clay roof tiles would be handled. As promised the tiles were carefully removed for the solar installation and then put back in place with no damage. Ulf, his son Marvin and the rest of his crew were pleasant and courteous. We were kept apprised of all the steps throughout the project and in the end were very happy with our decision to go with Unique Solar. They are now currently working with other friends and business associates who I referred to them.

We had met with several other solar installation companies over the years but never felt comfortable with the process or price. Jeff was able to show us a way using the HERO program to get a 26 system installed on our house for no money down. Unique Solar's owner Ulf Waldmann explained the installation process and he got all the plans, permits and product together. Ulf's crew got to the house on Thursday and by the following Tuesday the building inspector signed off on the project and on Wednesday we got the notice "San Diego Gas & Electric has authorized you to operate your solar-electric system". WooHoo!! They even let me flip the switch! Both Ulf and his crew were pleasant to work with and they always were gracious in answering all of our questions during the installation process. We would highly recommend Ulf, Jeff and the whole crew at Unique Solar to anyone considering installing solar on their home or business.

Installed panels with low mounts over composite roofing. Then surrounded with tiles to give the system a low profile on my Spanish tile roof. Used heavy duty rails and hardware for installation. Painless for me the owner. Works as advertised.

I am an retired electronics engineer that decided to have a solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation system (hereinafter called “solar system”) installed on my south facing second story roof. I researched reputable companies that install solar systems and decided to get bids from SolarCity, ASI Hastings Heating & Air, Palomar Solar, Sullivan Solar Power, and Unique Solar. All these companies were very professional in their sales approach to me, and all were technically knowledgeable. All the companies, except SolarCity, provided sufficient contract detail to allow a good comparison between the proposed solar systems. I feel any of these companies would have been able to successfully install a solar system meeting my needs, and my decision came down to what I technically desired and the cost. As the solar contractors will clearly explain to their customers, there are basically three types of solar systems: (1) microinverter, (2) string inverter, and (3) string inverter with power optimizer. ASI and Palomar Solar install microinverter solar systems, but not string inverter solar systems. SolarCity and Sullivan Solar install string inverter solar systems, but not microinverter solar systems. Unique Solar installs all three type of solar systems, based on what is best for the particular customer. Each of the three solar systems have unique advantages and disadvantages. The companies that install only one type of solar system will clearly point out the disadvantages of the other type of solar systems, but not so much the disadvantages of the system they are trying to sell. Choosing which solar system configuration to install involves a fair amount of research, and personal preference. For me, I decided I wanted the microinverter solar system because I wanted to monitor the individual power generation of each solar panel. This decision allowed me to narrow the contractor I would use to ASI, Palomar Solar, or Unique Solar. It turned out that the decision was fairly simple. All three companies proposed identical solar systems, i.e., LG290 solar panels, Enphase M-250 microinverters, Envoy Gateway, all the drawings, permits, etc.. It was interesting that the ASI and Palomar Solar total contract price differed by only $150. Unique Solar came in significantly less than the ASI and Palomar price, so I decided to sign a contract with Unique Solar. I did upgrade the solar panels to the LG295 from the LG290, for a total contract increase of $200. The owner of Unique Solar is Ulf Waldmann (858.353.7478) and is the person I met with initially and throughout the installation process. Mr. Waldmann was professional, very knowledgeable in solar panel and inverter technologies, and provided the greatest detail on what I call the solar system “POA&M” (plan of action and milestones) of the three solar contractors. I think the information provided by the other contractors was adequate for most customers, but I tend to like more engineering detail. Since the solar panels are likely be operational for 25 years, I wanted to re-roof where the solar panels were being installed in order to ensure my roof would not leak for the 25 years, vice the 10 year warranty provided by the solar contractors. Without any involvement from me, Unique Solar and RC Roofing (Rick Clark; 858.337.6908) coordinated a schedule between them where the old roof would be removed by RC Roofing, the stanchions (used to mount the solar panels to the roof) would be installed by Unique Solar, and then the new roof would be installed by RC Roofing. The re-roofing job was accomplished without a problem. Mr. Waldmann kept me informed of all events that went on, and there were no surprises in the solar system installation process or the payments requested. I was also pleasantly surprised with the craftsmanship of the solar system installation, e.g., end caps on the rails, the conduit being grounded properly and straight, and cable routing. The solar system installation took less than six weeks from the day the contract was signed to the day the installation was completed. The City of San Diego inspected the solar system installation on 24 March 2014 and signed off on the inspection record with no problem. The San Diego Gas and Electric company gave permission on 25 March 2014 to activate the system. My solar system is now up and operational, and I am able to easily and remotely monitor all parameters of the system. In summary, I recommend Unique Solar without reservation.

He got me the quote, and it far lower than the competitors by a significant margin. I updated my quote with additional work, and he was able to accomplish everything on my list. I highly recommend Unique Solar for Solar Installation...the job was done in a timely manner and I was kept apprised of all the steps along the way....I especially liked the fact that the owner was also part of the crew....that meant he was on the job every day and not just a salesman. His experience ranges from being a roofer to an installer and that was evident throughout the job.....he provided me with resources to research, to always answering my questions thoroughly and with patience and to being on the job to deliver the quality he promised....many home improvement jobs are not pleasant to go through but this one was...both he and his crew were very pleasant, courteous and knowledgeable...both my husband and I found this a pleasant and learning experience....we are loving seeing the meter go backwards

Our house has a spanish clay tile roof with cement boosters. I contacted several companies and they all suggested to remove tiles and install cheap shingles in the area where the solar system would be installed. Unique Solar were the only ones that offered to take up the existing tile and reinstall it with new underlayment and use the correct flashings for the stand-offs. All that at a better price then their competition. The work was completed quickly and I get more power out of the system then what they predicted. 1 month after the installation my inverter had a fault warning which turned out to be just that, a warning, but when I called them a technician was there within 1 hour, he checked things out and put me on the phone with the inverter manufacturer's technical support who assured me that everything was fine. Exceptional service that I can only recommend.
