Solar Tech Elec LLC

Absolute Nightmare

Been dealing with this company for over a year and a half to have our complete system installed and still haven't had our battery installed. While part of that can be blamed on the company that they ordered from, the complete lack of being forthcoming with information is completely unprofessional from Solar Tech. It was my mistake to trust Ross when he asked me to release the funds for the battery even though it had not been installed. There is a reason that finance companies ask you not to release funds unless all of the work has been completed. Will never make that mistake again. Your service with them will probably be much better if you are within the area of their office. I have been repeatedly told that I have to wait until their team is in my area for another install in order to complete a service call. After months of complaining about the amount of my electric bill, they installed CT clamps back in April to see the amount of energy being used, produced, imported and exported. They stopped working the day after they were installed and it took 8 months of constant badgering to get them to come out and fix it. My request kept being pushed back saying that they will do it when they install my battery instead of just fixing it. Literally the only good thing about this company are the actual installers. Every crew that has come has been amazing. If only the management was as well. One final note. They offer their customers a gift card if they go to various websites and leave 5 star reviews so another thing to keep in mind while reading them. TLDR: Skip them and go with someone else. You will be glad you did.

Terrible customer service, unpermitted installation of battery

Chose them through the Solar Coop. Had gotten other estimates but felt that the coop vetting and price was good. We had a very similar experience to the other very poorly related review. Lots of talk and little action. I had a 16.80kW system that was installed in 2018. Installers left 2 gouges in my brand new flat roof which leaked and ruined ceilings. And an additional leak was caused by trash left on the roof blocking a scupper and causing water to pool. It took 2 weeks for Ross to send someone out to move a panel so that we could find one gouge and during that time it rained multiple times. Spent months trying to get this all fixed and fighting with Ross about payment. Panels were installed under a tree (not per the original plan) and they refused to move them. Additional major shading issues were found which were enough to shut down whole strings and an independent review of our system found that the promised power production was impossible even without major shading issues. Ross is a salesman and once he sells you he is on to the next thing. And the most recent issue is the backup battery that they installed without a permit! I am having major electrical work done and an electrician saw the battery and noted that it was not to code. Seems it is not to code and not permitted. Ross has ignored my request for an after the fact permit. We have no technical specs on the battery so it is going to be very hard to get someone else to come in and move the battery. I filed a complaint with the BBB in December before the battery issue. I am now going to the county licensing board about the permit. Our system is large and was more complicated than a standard install. We also do not have a valid warrantee for our battery as the only ID on it is Solar Tech… So many promises, so much bull.

Quite a salesman, good at under delivering!!!

In 2017 I purchased a 15.12 kw system from Solar Tech Elec, Ross D. The sales pitch sounded great, for every 10kw of solar panels you will get about $300 of power. My power bill averaged about $430 for the previous year, so whe purchased a 15.12kw system. Ross told us we should have zero bill. We told Ross we were thinking of installing a new roof and may wait a year or two before we purchased the solar. He told me he would remove the panels and reinstall them for the cost of two days labor. I asked him how much he replied $800 - $1000. Since we were expecting to get more than $5000 per year in power savings, we decided that would be cost effective to get the panels installed now, and deal with the roof when it was time. Fast forward six months. We just haven't seen the savings Ross promised. I contact Ross with my concerns, he says wait a year, it is so hot right now the panels are not getting maximum efficiency. At a year I contact him again and he says well you got more kw produced than I quoted. Which was true, but that only added up to about $2400 in power. A far cry from the over $5,000 he promised. He had installed another system of the same size in my area and had again put out on his Facebook page, this system will produce $5,000 in power. When I asked him about that he replied "That's just advertising." Then at 15 months we decided it was time for that roof. I didn't discuss price with him because we had already been told the price upon sale. He had a different guy pull the panels and the roofing contractor replaced the roof in just three days. It took almost three weeks to get Ross to get the same guy to come out and reinstall the panels. Then he sends me a bill for $4,000. My system haven't even produced $4,000 worth of power at the time. Ross quoted me for a six to seven year payback on the system he sold me, however when I do the math it comes out to be 11 - 12 years. Come to find out he started out at 14 cents per kw even though the average in Florida was 12 cents and my power company only charged 10 cents per kw. Then he makes the claim that power cost will go up 10 percent year over year. Sorry but those numbers are laughable. Also, he would never tell me what report he was getting those numbers from. Ross says he has no negative reviews all the time on Facebook. But every time I write or read a bad review he deletes it almost immediately. Now he has even blocked me and my wife from his Facebook. Ross is not the guy you want to do business with. He company is built by buzz on social media and it is a con job.
