If problems arise, they do nothing

I contracted with Photon Brothers to install two batteries. I had already had Namaste install solar. Photon could not figure out how to work with another vendor’s installation for nearly 3 months. Once they did, they split the solar coming off the roof and only had one half monitored by Xcel. So where I’d never had an electricity bill from Xcel, now the bills starting rolling in from Xcel. They literally had the 2nd can installed but not the meter. After multiple outreaches to service, they told me my system was working perfectly. I had to pay Namaste to come and get Xcel to install the second meter. In the meantime, I spent $10k installing more solar on the roof thinking I had a production to usage gap. Now I have more electricity than I could ever use. But wait there is more. When we had power outages, one battery would drain quickly and the other not at all. Turns out into the 2nd battery Photon Brothers ran no critical loads. Literally they just ran what was easy. So I paid Namaste another $2500 to balance the critical circuits across the two batteries so that our indoor and outdoor fridges are on two different batteries. In summary, these folks know how to run their solar into their batteries. Do not do a hybrid vendor system. And when problems arise the stock answer is that it’s installed to spec, aka, it is up to the homeowner to fix their work with a 3rd party. Namaste may be more expensive but they are people who care about the quality of their work whereas Photon does not.

Excellent work and great customer service

Photon Brothers recently replaced my roof and did a phenomenal job. After removal of the solar panels, the entire roof was complete in 1 day. I had to wait a couple of weeks for the solar reinstall to allow time for settling, which I had not anticipated. However, they did a wonderful job and every person I encountered throughout each step was very knowledgeable and friendly!

Fantastic service

My inverter needed to be hooked to my home internet. Photon Brothers helped me do this by sending me instructions and walking me through it. This saved me a service visit and accompanying charges. Cannot thank them enough. They were also stellar with deinstall/reinstall when I had my roof replaced due to hail. Solar panels fared well. Much better than the roof!

Definitely Recommend

Our experience working with Photon Bros has been great. Efficient, on budget, and as expected. They came yesterday (about 9 mos after our system installation) and went over they system thoroughly, making sure that everything was performing as requested. They even went the extra mile answering questions about our older, still functioning ground-mount solar system. It's been nothing but positives for us, so far. I also like that this company has been around a while and is big enough that they will be available to us for the foreseeable future. Our older system was installed two or three companies ago, and it's nice to land with one that seems like it will stick around for a while.

Photon Bros has been great for us. They did a great job installing the system, and have been keeping tabs on how the system is operating. Yesterday two techs came and spent hours tracking down some issues we were having. We appreciated that thoroughness. I have nothing but positives to say about working with this company over the last year.

In March 2023, I contracted with Photon Brothers to install solar panels and a Tesla battery at my home. I paid them $30,000. Their contract included a ten year warranty on the system which they refused to honor. Following is a summary of my experience with Photon Brothers: In September 2024, solar production began shutting down and the warning light on the battery started flashing. For more than a year, I fought a losing battle trying to get Photon Brothers to fix my system. By September 2025, Photon Brothers had stopped answering my emails. I then filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I submitted screenshots from my system monitoring app which clearly documented the solar shutdowns. I also submitted videos of the battery warning light fast flashing which, according to Tesla, indicates that a system fault is present that needs immediate attention. Photon Brothers did not respond to (or even acknowledge) my screenshots and videos. They simply claimed that the system was functioning properly and then went silent. (See my September 17, 2025 BBB complaint) Consequently, I was forced to hire another company to fix my system which they did. I paid them $1,877.60. My system is now functioning perfectly. In addition to the above, four days after installation in 2023, the entire system shut down for several hours. Nine months and 84 shutdowns later, the problem turned out to be a simple wiring mistake which took less than five minutes to locate and repair. Thus, during my three years with Photon Brothers, their system only functioned properly for a grand total of 5 ½ months. Photon Brothers is the worst company I have ever done business with. They not only cost me $1,877.60 but years of unrelenting frustration, stress and aggravation. Photon Brothers has been an exceptional company to work with through the process of quoting and moving forward on a contract with solar. My neighbor, who's a solar engineer, mentioned I should check Photon out, as that is who he would use. Once all my quotes came in, Photon was hands down the best to work with. Granted, they had an amazing program for the cost of the project, but if all costs were equal across the companies I worked with, I still would have went with Photon. Ben Minarick was my point of contact with Photon. He took the extra effort and steps to make sure I was fully informed. It was clear he loves what he does and is extremely knowledgeable. He left no stones unturned when making sure I was informed. He was a large reason why I chose Photon.

Incredible experience with Photo Brothers! Ben made the contract and business side seamless, and the installation crew was exceptionally professional. They made getting solar a breeze. The system looks clean, functions perfectly, and we couldn't be happier. Their communication was top-notch throughout, and they even helped with the funding. Highly recommend!

Fantastic Service!

I had a very positive experience with Photon Brothers! From sales working with Matthew Moody to the installation crew - everyone answered my questions and talked me through the process. I'm pleased with the outcome and love generating energy on my roof! Just bought an EV and excited to charge it in my own garage with energy from the solar panels - definitely a win-win!!

Photon Bros did a fabulous job of adding solar + battery backup capability to our house at a competitive price. They were able to work with our fragile concrete tile roof and were very conscientious and communicative throughout the installation process.

Powerwall 3 Addition

I highly recommend Photon Brothers for any solar needs. They helped us get solar for our home and church. Recently we added a Powerwall 3 battery to our home. Andrew Ehrnstein helped us with the purchase (as with the other projects) and Wes Benscoter was project manager who led us through the process. Ben was very proactive in addressing issues with being able to get out tax credit. We highly recommend both Andrew and Wes!

Post-Install Service really lacking

As I was trying to decide between bids from two companies communication was very good, giving me high hopes. Communication following signing the contract wasn't so great, with lots of confusion about how long the project would actually take, though at least the project manager responded quickly to questions. Frankly, I suspect this may be endemic in the industry, so I was still hopeful. But my gripe is how communication completely fell apart once the system was installed. I asked for a user manual and was told all I needed was in the app. Not really, and when I asked about the myriad of switches marked Emergency Disconnect and how I'd actually shut it down in case of an emergency, the installer blew me off. So I decided to contact the project manager with the same question--how exactly (in what order) do I shut the system down in the event of an emergency? Pretty basic and important question; 4 weeks and 1 reminder later, still no response. My other issue is that I had asked if the electricians are all in-house, because I've heard stories about issues with the actual wiring. I was promised that they were and that they were all Journeymen or Master electricians. Well, the lead electrician seemed to know what he was doing, but his sidekick seemed pretty clueless. Took pretty much all day to install the boxes and then they took off, leaving the clearly less knowledgeable panel installers to finish connections. Bad idea--when the city inspector came out to check he tugged two wires and they pulled right out of their connections. The electrician who corrected that didn't even have a torque wrench on his truck to ensure the connections were properly torqued. And the MC run through the attic was pretty slap dash, making subsequent access to some areas unnecessarily difficult. A little more time and maybe 10' of extra wiring would have made for a much more professional install, but they knew the inspector would never climb into the attic to look. On the positive side, the installers did try to minimize the visibility of the exposed EMT and the system is working well. They also had to make some last-minute changes due to changes in my city's requirements and they still honored the contract price. All in all, it could have gone (much) worse from stories I've read--but it also could have been done more professionally. I wouldn't use Photon Brothers again or recommend them to others.

Could not be more pleased!

Photon installed my solar panels 5 years ago. I purchased them outright. The process was virtually painless - they even got my electric provider to speed up their end of things. The panels have worked perfectly and I haven’t paid for electric usage since they went on the roof. And I’m getting regular rebates as I’m generating more power than I’m using. Best of all Photon ALWAYS has a “live” person to answer questions (not related to the panels but to my Solar Edge subscription) and they’ve stepped in to help one of my neighbors who (foolishly) had someone other than Photon install her panels. She had problems and could never reach anyone at her solar installer for help. Photon installed another neighbor’s panels and they could not be happier. This is a great bunch of folks to work with and I highly recommend them!

Follow up

The staff in the office were continuously helpful after the install was completed. They answered operational and rebate questions. They followed up with emails and calls as required to help me understand the operation of the new batteries and meet the requirements for the rebates. The new system works as well or possibly even better than my expectations.

Dishonest Company and NOT to be Trusted

I am a qualified recipient for California SGIP program to receive Free Solar System and Batteries. After initially, Amir Ahmadi a sales associate collected all information on me and SEC bill and Green dot usage fraudulently informed me that I am qualified for SGIP incentive and made me believe time is of the essence because of the SGIP funds could run out. I have been waiting to hear from them for last Eight weeks leaving messages and attempted to reach them four times and hear that they are going to get back to me soon and at the last call to the supervisor Natasha she informed me very rudely that they cannot and are not going to help me without explaining the reason and hang up on me. Amir Ahmadi a sales associate who seems to be a nice and informative nothing he has informed on was true. Please don't trust a word come out of his mouth. They drag you with hope to sell you an almost $60,000 solar package and they don't even file application for SGIP program. They are not to be trusted watch them and don't spend and waste time with Photon Brother. Very Disappointed because, they have not even filed application for SGIP.

A great solar-systems company to work with!

I've worked with Photon Brothers for my initial 7500 watt solar-panel/inverter installation, and then again to have the panels upgraded to 9848 watts, with a new Tesla inverter. Each time their work was done on-time, with no issues, roof leaks, wiring problems, and with impressive integrity. Recently I had to have my Telsa inverter replaced due to a defect issue; they diagnosed it on-line, ordered it and came out to replace it under their warranty at no charge. Again the work was done with impressive results. I'd highly recommend Photon Brothers for their workmanship and integrity; they've also been around awhile while other companies have gone out of business. I have no regrets for having hired on Photon brothers.

Don’t waste your time

I do not recommend Photon Brothers. 1. The permit review process has taken 5+ months and was continually denied by the city for minor things that are in the company’s control for submission (ie what paper size to submit for approval on). The delay was caused by the project managers submissions and delayed responses. 2. After 5 months for permit approval, we were told they would install the next Wednesday. On the Tuesday before install, we received a call that they don’t have solar panels to install with no timeline insight for having inventory. It’s almost as if they had no visibility of the project. 3. We asked for the design document of what was approved for permit. We approved the initial design from Photon Brothers with 28 panels because that is what will meet the needs of the house. The final design document only includes 14 panels, so only meets 50% of the requirement. There was zero communication about the changes from Photon Brothers, and only found out because we asked for the final documents. In summary, the 5+ months we spent in permitting process is not what we approved and doesn’t come close to meeting the needs of the house, with zero communication about any changes. 4. To get anyone on the phone towards resolution is near impossible. This is currently in progress. I will update the review if progress is made.

Run away from this company

I am the next door neighbor of a Photon Brothers customer. I happily agreed to let them use my driveway for access to the project. When I saw the support poles go up over 8’ high, I bécame very alarmed as that would partially block views from my property and be very imposing. After numerous discussions with my neighbor and the company they we’re very unwilling to make any adjustments or even talk about other posibilites. When I asked the project manager about the design process and why it needed to be so high all I got was “do you want to see the permit?” No willingness what so ever to talk about possible solutions even after I offered four possibilities. When pressed, they said to make changes would cost 75k and that they didn’t want to delay their payment. This company only wants to install and get paid. They don’t give a darn about those who have to live with the sloppy crap they build. STRONGLY RECOMMEND NOT EVER USING Photon Bros.

5-stars for Photon Brothers

5-stars for Photon Brothers (PB). They designed and installed 18 panels of solar electric for our home 3.5 years ago. On a steep tile roof, not an easy feat. It has been churning out 10,000 kwh / yr over that time (exceeding our consumption by 22%); we sell power back to Xcel 9 months of the year. (Nov-Dec-Jan less sun; no surprise.) The SolarEdge software that links the control panel to my home computer makes it easy to keep tabs on how the system is doing (and double-checking Xcel’s monthly credits for solar production). I am writing now to note that, when one of our roof tiles disintegrated recently, the PB supervisor agreed that the combination of a hard-to-detect stress crack by the original installers plus 3.5 years of rain and hail may have caused the tile to fall apart. PB stood behind their work; no charge to install a new tile. BTW, the 18 solar panels themselves have all survived the wind and hail !

Bad warranty

Photon brothers installed our system just over a year ago. One of our 38 panels got spider webbing throughout the panel. We have had no extreme weather, hail, etc… No one has been on the roof. They want us to prove what went wrong. The warranty will not cover the replacement cost of the panel which is 1215.00 to replace. Not sure what if anything the warranty actually covers. Our set was 81,000 before tax credits. I think the company should replace this panel.

Initial Contact

Sadly, I would not recommend this company. Our initial contact was a text message trying to schedule a consult that was pushed out by a week to begin with. It was established that if you can't even meet a consultation phone call goal, you will probably have problems with the end result. So not further action was taken.

The Photon Bros. installed our solar and battery system about 3 years ago. My wife and are very pleased with the quality of the component installations on our roof as well as the ones incorporated into our power service area; very clean and efficient. Although our solar system has generally performed flawlessly, we have had a couple of component issues since the original installation. The Photon Bros. promptly identified and solved those issues. Many thanks to the design, installation, and service teams at the Photon Bros. I would highly recommend using the Photon Bros. for anyone considering installing a solar system.

Great Experience

I initially came across Photon Brothers when I was wanting to add a battery to my solar system, since we had been experiencing frequent power outages several years ago. The company that installed my panels was not yet supplying batteries so I did some research on the brand possibilities and local companies that install them. Photon Brothers offered me the best price by several hundred dollars, but more important, they had what I had determined was the best battery --Tesla-- in their warehouse. When the battery they installed the battery they discovered the inverter had gone out, so I went ahead and had a new Tesla inverter installed. They gave me a $700 discount as a returning customer. The new inverter revealed that my 15+ year old panels were not generating much energy anymore, so I had new panels installed. The quote was for a 4.5 kWh system, but before installation, they called and asked if would be ok to install larger panels that would give me a 5.1 kWh system for the same price. I agreed of course and am hoping that they will give me another discount for this. They came when they said they would and got the job done on scheduled. It is now delivering over 6kWh at the peak and has reduced usage of power from the grid to almost nothing. Katlyyn Arnoldi, with whom I dealt on the bids, scheduling and payment has been difficult to reach by phone, but she shares an office with Andrew Cavinta, who was the project manager on the battery project, and he is generally available and been very helpful.

Incorrectly installed inverters and racking system. Wouldn't honor the warranties. Terrible customer service.

I can’t say enough great things about Photon Brothers. From day one they’ve been responsive and professional. They installed a high quality, trouble free system. Most recently I contacted them thinking I had damage to one of my panels due to the recent horrible wind storm. Upon contacting Kenneth, the service coordinator, technician Mike came out to inspect my system the next day! Luckily I didn’t have any damage. That was an incredibly fast response and typical of Photon Brothers’ customer service and business approach. Five stars again to them and their wonderful staff Alexis, Kenneth, and Mike.

Fixed my inverter

Not long after the original installer (Ecomark) went of of business my inverter failed. That was the same time that XCEL installed a smart meter. Jake with Photon Brothers diagnosed the problem and and Cam, the technician promptly replaced the inverter. Both were very efficient and easy to work with and the system is back to working fine.

Best solar Company ever

Photon Brothers has made my day again. They installed my panels back in 2018. Then had a problem today. Jake of Photon corrected the problem.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

Terrible, terrible company and people. They just lie and lie and lie. They ruined our roof installing the panels and refused to pay for the damages because “it was already an old roof” even after telling us our roof was in fine shape for installation. They also refused to remove and reinstall the panels when we did get our roof fixed unless we paid them almost $9000. The cherry on top is that they breached our contract by not installing part of the system and then lied by saying it was impossible to install on our house when in reality it would have just been more work than they wanted to do. Currently pursuing legal options. DO NOT use this company

One of the More Frustrating Experiences.

There are many reputable solar panel companies in Colorado. Photon Brothers is NOT one of them. Do not use this company for your solar panel needs. We started the panel installation process in the fall of 2022. Everything seemed to go ok at first, with monthly updates on the county and electric company approval process. However, once installation started in May 2023, things started to awry. First off, Photon Brothers incorrectly informed our loan company, Mosaic, that our panels were installed and operational, thus starting the payment clock with Mosaic...only there was one problem, the panels didn't work. Not only did the panels not work, but I couldn't get anyone from the company to call or email me back for weeks. Once I finally did get in touch with someone at the company, they would promise one thing and then offer another. That is not a great way to engender your customer's trust. The panels continued to fail inspections throughout the summer, which is exactly when you would want your panels up and running. Photon Brothers also caused roof damage during the installation that ultimately had to be fixed by a roofing company. After several failed inspections, a new main electrical output (that came with its own headaches), we finally had solar panels that worked...in September of 2023. In addition to that lengthy process, the app that PB uses didn't work at first, requiring another visit and more troubleshooting. All in all, I wish that I had not purchased solar panels, especially from Photon Brothers, because this company was not worth the hassle.

Great experience with Photon Brothers

We had our solar system installed by Photon Bros in 2021 and have enjoyed using the monitoring app to see our production month over month and year over year. Recently we had the misfortune of an inverter issue. When we learned of the loss in system production we emailed Photon Brothers directly. I received an email response from their service department and the individual had included their direct contact information in the signature line of the email. Who does that anymore!!! I was thrilled to have this line of communication, so I immediately picked up the phone. Again, to my surprise, the individual answered. I proceeded to explain what was going on and they said they would check on the work order and get back to me the next day. They did just that and even continued the line of communication for the next week until the issue was resolved. That individual was Katlyyn Arnoldi, out of their CA office. Katlyyn is a huge asset to Photon Bros. as she was very professional, patient with a frustrated customer, presented a positive attitude, gave me the basics and facts and earnestly cared about my experience and system. I told Katlyyn how much I enjoyed working with her and how happy we were with Photon Bros. Photon Brothers, you need to work hard to keep Katlyyn on your front lines, as she is the face of your organization and takes pride in her work, which shows through her interactions.
