Ocotillo Solar Electric

Ocotillo Solar installed our flat rooftop solar panels. The whole experience was very easy. Dominic and his team laid out every step and took care of all the meetings with the city for applications etc. We had to have our electric panel upgraded and they took care of that with their in-house electrician. They helped with understanding and applying for the tax credits which paid for 40% of the job. It was an overall pleasant experience. Dominic and his team are all very nice and helpful. We highly recommend them.

We decided to get solar 3 years ago and first met with a large company. We were convinced we would go with them after a meeting at our house but decided to meet with a smaller company as well. Despite having already basically decided to go with the big name company, Ocotillo was impressive enough to independently change both of our minds. The owner was very knowledgeable and able to answer my (probably fairly technical on average) questions about everything from the wattage of the array vs the transformer to the roof penetrations to what would happen to warranties should they go out of business. I appreciated Dominic's straightforward answers to my frank questions. After the meeting, my wife and I each tentatively broached the topic of changing to Ocotillo only to find the other in complete agreement. 3 years on I think what a great decision that was every time I see another company on a billboard around town. The process from purchase to installation was quite painless even with somewhat confusing government solar rebate paperwork in the mix, with Ocotillo doing much of the heavy lifting in that regard. They have stuck to their word to perform maintenance yearly. We just finished our third yearly maintenance without having to initiate anything on our own, which is what spurred me to write this review. I would wholeheartedly recommend them to any of my friends or family.

Ocotillo Solar designed and installed our 5KW PV system in fall 2024 and I highly recommend this small, responsive company. They specced the Enphase microinverter system I wanted at a 10% lower price than their major competition. What’s more, they managed the complex permitting process in only 7 weeks from signing the contract to a completed, PNM-approved system. I stuck to the installation team like glue (I love construction projects) and everything they did was well thought out, clean and professional. I met every member of the Ocotillo team and liked working with them all. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as firing up the Enphase monitoring app on my phone and seeing the system producing power day in and day out — unless it’s watching my electric meter run backwards and never having to pay PNM for another watt of power!

Dominic and the team were easy to work with and always available to answer our questions in a helpful and friendly manner. After we got through PNM’s secondary review process, the installation was fast and easy. The installation crew even cleaned up after themselves very well too, which is not something that happens with every contractor. We are quite happy with the quality of the equipment and the exceptional warranty. I would highly recommend Ocotillo to anyone in the market for a solar system.

We highly recommend this company! Ocotillo solar installed our system in March of 2022, so I’m writing this review 16 months later. Starting with the estimate, Dominic made sure that we were aware of our options, and patiently answered all of our questions. When installation day came, we were properly permitted and the crew was efficient and courteous. Since the install, they made sure we had all of the necessary paperwork for rebates and came out about one year later to clean the panels and inspect the system. In the end we’ve enjoyed electric bills around $8 a month, along with the satisfaction that we’ve reduced our carbon footprint.

Fantastic Experience - Outstanding Company

I can't recommend this company enough. Solar is a huge financial commitment, and Ocotillo Solar met and exceeded all of the expectations we had for our home install. We initially took 3 quotes from the highest ranked companies in town, and it was Dominic's technical knowledge and competitive pricing (not the cheapest) that won us over. It's not easy working around a 2-story metal roof discreetly wiring up all of these panels from one end to the other while making it aesthetically pleasing, but they did just that. They even triple checked that I was happy with everything, made any necessary cosmetic touch ups, and showed sincere care for my concerns. The install was a 12KWH system that utilized REC400A panels, and SolarEdge power optimizers and inverter. I chose a single inverter over microinverters (enphase) because of the DC to DC efficiency, and if the inverter fails, it's easy to access and replace in the garage, rather than on the roof under panels. A 30 year warranty on all of the equipment was also a huge plus. Most importantly: Dominic and his team really nailed the whole process with their clear communication and being able to effectively coordinate all of the state, county, and PNM obstacles. The install is one thing, but the entire process can be a chore, and Ocotillo Solar made it easy and stress free.

Dominic of Ocotillo Solar sets himself apart from the rest of the pack because he has expert knowledge (many I interviewed (including the big name outfits) new less about solar than I did) ; has technical installation experience (since Dominic will be doing the work); is personable (since I knew we would be working together closely as a Team); and lastly Dominic is Super-Customer-Driven.....he totally will customize your installation to fit your needs for high quality workmanship, that is pleasing to the eye, at a value that will meet your budget. Bottom Line: Dominic gets it! My recommendation is go ahead and interview others all you want....but interview Dominic last....and you will realize all of the above...for sure. Brian.

SUPERB SERVICE, OUTSTANDING BUSINESS PRACTICE, PRICED RIGHT

After extensive consideration of the (now several) well-respected PV companies, we chose Ocotillo based on neighbor/friend recommendation and could not be happier. They get our highest recommendation. We have had many construction/remodeling/electrician etc projects at our home, and we have never worked with a more well-informed, ethical, transparent, meticulous, and quality-conscious company. They maintain true "ownership" of the project from start-to-finish, including all aspects of permissions, paperwork, on-site meetings with inspectors, etc. Unlike all other companies, you don't meet with a sales rep. You meet with the installer himself, who has tons of experience and can answer any technical question. Their contract is better than most (for example, no forced arbitration clause). They truly go the "extra mile" in everything, including little touches like painting the conduits to blend in with home, if needed. All parts and labor have 25 year warranty. Telecommunication monitoring (uses T-mobile) is paid for the first 12 years. The company is relatively small, which means they don't have to pay the salaries of extraneous folks (sales, marketing, etc) or layers of management. So, in addition to having incredible service (truly better than anything you can expect from the construction industry of NM), they also beat every other company in terms of price-per-watt. Working with a small company that largely depends on the "boss's" personality always carries some risk, of course. But this is completely overshadowed by a painless experience, highest level of service possible, extreme technical competence, honest and transparent representations, contractual terms that are fair, and all at the lowest price-per-watt. Truly, the best contractor experience we've had as NM homeowners for 38 years.
