Not very communicative and not transparent

I chose Kingdom Solar because of its excellent reviews and because the company was willing to work on a paid-off solar and battery system installed by another company. It can be difficult to find companies willing to service systems they did not originally install. The technician ultimately solved the CT issue, and I have never disputed that Kingdom Solar should be paid for the parts and reasonable installation labor. Unfortunately, my experience with the company’s pricing transparency and communication was very different from what I expected. I was told the rate was $375 for the first hour and $180 for each additional hour. I paid the initial $375 diagnostic invoice in full. The company then made return visits connected with completing the same job. During the many texts about ordering the CTs and scheduling those visits, I was never told that each return visit would begin with another $375 minimum charge. After the work was completed, I received another invoice for $475. It contained only one line reading “Service Call – CTS installation” for $475. It did not separately identify the labor time, hourly rate, $375 per-visit minimum, or $100 parts charge that the owner later said was included. Communication throughout the process required repeated follow-ups from me regarding scheduling, whether the parts had arrived, and when the installation would actually occur. There was also damage to my electrical-panel cover. Before the final appointment, I specifically asked the office to ensure that the technician brought the proper key or tool needed to open the panel, and that message was acknowledged. After the appointment, I immediately reported that the cover had been gouged, scraped, and bent around the locking area. The proposed solution was to paint over it, which would not repair the damaged metal. I repeatedly explained that I was not refusing to pay. In addition to the $375 already paid, I offered another $304—$100 for the CTs and $204 for the technician’s 1 hour and 8 minutes of installation time at the $180 hourly rate originally communicated to me. Rather than providing documentation showing that the additional $375 minimum had been disclosed before the return visit, issuing a properly itemized invoice, or addressing the panel damage, the owner gave me three days to pay before sending the account to collections. He also told me it was “not a wise or nice move to burn a bridge” with someone who had helped solve my problem and reminded me that there are not many companies willing to assist solar and battery homeowners without support from their original installer. Because my system is paid off and obtaining service is already difficult, that message felt less like customer service and more like using my limited future service options as pressure to pay a disputed charge. The technical work was ultimately completed, but customers should obtain the entire pricing structure in writing before scheduling service—including whether every diagnostic, return, or installation visit will trigger a new minimum charge. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company for transparent billing, communication, or professional handling of a legitimate customer dispute.
