Honest trustworthy company

We got 3 estimates. The other two were national companies friends had used, so we know they would probably have been adequate, but since we went with a local company, we saved a substantial amount by not paying a middleman and allowed us access to more incentives through the state. The work has passed inspections with our town's building inspector, wiring inspector, and just today a state auditor who does random checks on solar installers every so often to make sure the work is good. All have commented on the quality of the work. Company representatives were present to meet with every inspector. There was one problem with the inverter and they arranged to have the manufacturer overnight a new one from CA.
We weren't due for a new roof for a few years, but rather than have the panels taken off and put back on so soon, we decided to do it a bit early and this company had roofers who did the job. We also had our roof reinforced for the added weight.
It wasn't a quick and easy project. It took quite a bit longer than expected from start to finish. A good share of the delay was old wiring to a generator done by who knows who – no permit sticker had been left on it. Certified Safe worked with the town inspector to wire it in up to code.
Honestly, at the beginning, when each salesman started talking, I was suspicious about all the deals quoted, but we have already gotten back over 40% of our investment in federal and state rebates, loan forgiveness, and tax credits. Part of the good deal was a grant our state used to encourage residents to use local companies – whether all or any of the federal alternative energy credits will be renewed in the current political climate, I don't know.
By the end of next year we will have gotten back 2/3 of the costs. The SRECs (solar energy credits) will go on for 10 years at a rate of over $1,000 a year. Besides the free electricity, it will more than pay for itself, plus then we can sell a house with the value added benefit of free electricity.
I signed on here to give a fantastic reference for Certified Safe and guess I got carried away. I have nothing to do with selling solar systems, I promise. I would just love to see more people take advantage of it for themselves and the environment. We just got a bill for $42.43 CREDIT. It probably won't always be this good, depending on our usage, but this was even with short snowy and rainy days in February in the Northeast. It's all graphed hourly on the computer and phone and my husband has had fun tracking it, at least now at the beginning.
The people we dealt with most were Matt, Alan, Kim, Jason, and Marko – all top notch professionals and all a delight to work with, as was everyone we dealt with in this company.

Warranty and Customer Service Nightmare

I strongly encourage anyone considering solar to stay away from Certified Safe Electric/Solar. Though initially very impressed, I learned the hard way that they do not honor their supposed five year install warranty. They profess to be solar and roofing experts and perform a “thorough’ roof evaluation prior to install with roofers and an engineer. Three months later and I have water leaking and damaging my master bathroom. Repeated calls over three years and as always, they claim that their work as beyond reproach. Certified claims that my roof needs to be replaced completely and they will not honor their warranty to even remove the panels and reinstall saying that “my home is my problem”. But what about their evaluation that my roof was ideal for installing panels and started to fail 3 months post install? Owner never responds directly even though I invested $39,000 with them and my niece $30,000. Called in two respected roofers and another solar company; all documented roof damage from Certified Safe. Most damaging was the solar installer’s photos of “hundreds” of drilled holes into the roof to locate rafters instead of measuring out 16 inches on center. Despite this evidence and a patient approach since winter, the business has stonewalled me and the BBB. The Attorney General’s Office of MA took on the case to help resolve and even they are being stalled and ignored. Do you want to deal with this type of Customer Service when you invest $40,000 in your home?

Go somewhere else

I won't have enough room to tell you how bad this company is. They never show up when scheduled nor do they inform you when they will show up. They are unable to ever hit any deadline they set. They cost me thousands of dollars by not finishing within the time frame they agreed to. The owner of the company will not return one phone call. I have been having an ongoing issue for 2 years which they still won't fix. They have made several appointments they just don't show up. I would find any other company and run from them. I basically paid 30 grand for a box that sits on my wall. I get no credit for the energy I produce nor do receive the proper srec amounts. I think they Did a decent job but its not worth the headache. I would not use them because you will regret it. I wish I had gone anywhere but here. I have now had to go to the vendor themselves to get things fixed. There are a lot of good solar companies try someone else. I got taken for 30 grand and then they disappeared.

Fantastic job

Couldn't be happier with the install and service.
Great people to work with. The best part is not owing the electric company anything. I recommend Certified Safe Electric to everyone.
