Terrible experience

We have had our solar panels for a few years now & it has been a nightmare. Our JEA bill is always through the roof & we are not getting any relief from having solar panels. We were severely mislead from the start about going this route. We have nothing but regrets & cannot confidently say we recommend getting these installed & dealing with them.

Poor service avoid at all costs

recently encountered significant issues with my solar energy system installed by A1A Solar, particularly with the Envoy component, which serves as the communication and control center for my PV system. Despite the initial promise of a high-quality, long-lasting solar solution, I have faced unexpected challenges that have left me disappointed. First and foremost, my Envoy unit malfunctioned, resulting in a substantial loss of solar energy production. This not only impacted my energy savings but also compromised the efficiency of my entire system. While A1A Solar's representative, Jenny, was responsive and explained that the Envoy needed to be replaced, I was taken aback by the additional costs associated with this replacement. At the time of installation, there was no mention or written information indicating that future upgrades or replacements would incur extra charges. This lack of prior notification is concerning, especially given the significant investment I made in this system. Additionally, I have not received clear communication on how the lost solar energy production will be addressed or compensated. The unexpected costs, coupled with the loss of energy production, have left me feeling frustrated and undervalued as a customer. While I appreciate the initial service and support provided by A1A Solar, I believe that greater transparency and better customer care are essential for maintaining trust and satisfaction. I hope that A1A Solar will take these concerns seriously and work towards providing a fair and reasonable resolution. Overall, my experience with A1A Solar has been mixed. While the initial installation and performance were satisfactory, the recent issues and unexpected costs have overshadowed the positive aspects. I hope to see improvements in communication and customer support in the future. Update 06-17-2024 Thank you for your response. While I appreciate your willingness to address my concerns, I am still awaiting concrete actions and solutions to resolve the issues with my Envoy unit and the unexpected costs associated with its replacement. The loss of solar energy production has had a significant impact on my energy savings and overall system efficiency, which needs to be urgently addressed. I look forward to a prompt and satisfactory resolution to these matters and hope that A1A Solar will take the necessary steps to restore my trust in their service.

Nearly caused a fire

Thanks to an A1A install of a generator and battery in 2019, and subsequent fix in Jun 2021 after a 60amp junction box shorted out and melted wires and a relay, the company is now saying they did not install the junction box after the box failed again. The junction box was on single line drawing, attached to their permit, and a huge placard on the box itself with A1A name and contact information. After pointing this out to their “Support Specialist,” that has no idea what is going on, I have heard nothing since Friday. A1A’s “support specialist” diagnosed the problem over the phone and now wants $450 for the visit with an additional $200 per hour if the fix goes beyond an hour. The company “fixed” the issue in 2019, but did not fix it correctly or even try to figure out why the wires shorted out and melted a relay. My system has been shutoff since 31 May 2023. If you want Solar that actually works and probably won’t cause your house to catch fire, go with a different company.

Response from A1A Solar Contracting, Inc

Mr. Escobar, We spoke on the phone yesterday and offered our services for the repair of your photovoltaic disconnect switch for a fair price. I am glad no other damage to your home resulted other than burned wires in the PV Disconnect switch. Let’s give the readers a little background on this situation: 1. You purchased this home where the PV, battery and generator systems were already installed and working. 2. A1A Solar did NOT install the solar PV array or the PV Disconnect switch where the burned wires are, and we currently are not and never have been the installer of record per the PV inverter equipment manufacturer and we have no access to PV inverter data required to effect proper repairs to the PV system. 3. A1A Solar's only involvement was the installation of the battery system and the generator in 2019 (for the previous homeowner), none of which involved the solar PV disconnect switch, since our method of interconnection is on the JEA meter combo can. The battery was a USED battery system procured by the previous homeowner who hired A1A Solar to install it without any warranty transfer. 4. Your photovoltaic system was installed by American Solar in 2016 as shown in the documentation you provided and quite possibly is already out of warranty with the original installer. We at A1A Solar have no legal obligation to provide you with free service work for a system we neither sold nor installed. 5. You disclosed that you have had other solar contractor(s) out to your property since owning it, but either they are not able or are not willing to correct the burned wire issue. Since you didn’t get what you wanted (a free service call), I believe you are treating A1A Solar unfairly, by leaving a bad review and mentioning to me potentially pursuing legal action. We are more than happy to fix this issue in good faith, but not for free. Let me also reiterate what we mentioned during our conversation - your battery system charges from the solar and the extended zero state of charge of your batteries could cause those batteries irreparable damage with no warranty protection. Terrible Experience

Just got done with their "salesperson" "Jayson" who knew nothing about solar and wasted my time. Turns out he was in the Philippines. This "local" company could only provide a salesperson who they contract with on the other side of the plant. The presentation was copied from other solar proposals I had received. It was clear this company is not serious.

Response from A1A Solar Contracting, Inc

Our goal has always been to help educate our customers on solar PV and energy storage systems, so they can make an informed decision. We regret that you did not have a positive experience with Jayson. Jayson is a new member of our inside sales team. Based on your feedback, we have provided him with more training. For the record, all salespeople and installers are employees of A1A Solar. We do not outsource or subcontract either function. We have always had and continue to have an outside sales team in Jacksonville who are available to make calls in person. We would welcome the opportunity to have one of our outside sales reps work with you to answer your questions and design a solar PV system that meets your needs.

Solar doesn't work

First of all, sale rep has lied to us about efficiency of the system (we have all calculation on how much system suppose to produce watts, signed by sale rep). After some time, not getting result, we have submitted request to the company; problem wasn't solved. Company excuse was that their computer shows that everything is working/producing fine. It was like talking to the wall, you are showing to company electrical bills with very low system production, and getting the same answer, that 'our system is working just fine'. Now we have solar for about two years and have to live with it, no promised results, no solutions, no money back. It is a big scam!!!

Response from A1A Solar Contracting, Inc

This customer was upset that his bill was not lower than he calculated-but the solar performance was spot on. He obtained his own financing and based his (first month's) savings on the LCOE (Levelized Cost of Energy) number that we provided him. This value essentially "averages" the value of energy over the system's 30 year lifecycle, which is much higher in the future than today. If he had showed us his calculations, we would have been glad to point out the error. But he was mad he made a mistake and looked silly to his wife so he needed to push the blame to someone else. He got a great system with great economics...just not quite as good as he originally figured. Be sure to ask LOTS of questions to your solar consultant. Pete

ROI is absolutely terrible. Do not trust them or anybody else.

I bought a 11.4 KW system... VERY pricey, but was promised it would be a great ROI. I'm being forced to sell off my house and quite literally am LOSING over 10k than what I paid INTO the house because the system is adding absolutely no value. Needless to say, I'm livid and pissed off and would NEVER recommend these guys or any other solar company...

Response from A1A Solar Contracting, Inc

This was an unfortunate event that could have been prevented. When selling a home with solar installed, it is VERY important to have a home appraiser who has had additional training to properly value solar. The new home buyer got a tremendous deal as the sellers expense. We only found out about this after the sale was final... too late. 20/20 hindsight, he should have contested the original appraisal citing various references such as: https://www.solarreviews.com/blog/do-solar-panels-increase-home-value

Solar increased my overall monthly bills

The solar system I had installed is providing a monthly savings of ~$40.00, with a monthly payment of $125.00 of the system. The system will take ~25 years to recoup the cost of the system AFTER reducing the price by the tax credit. The production of electric is far below what I was told during the sales process. This comes after the installers went directly against my advice of which part of my roof to install the panels on.

Response from A1A Solar Contracting, Inc

We are trying to figure out who this customer is, as no one has ever called us and given us this feedback / complaints. If this is in fact our customer, we would urge you to contact our office and speak with the management so that we may have the opportunity to address any issues you may have. If his system was recently installed, it's very possible that the system may not cover the total amount of electric bills when running AC 24/7 during the hot summer months, but generally it should make up the difference in the cooler months to *average* the costs close to net-zero over the annual billing cycle. If that's the case, this is normal and expected and usually our Solar Consultants make this clear. Our #1 priority is happy customers, but we can't address a problem if we don't know about it. :-/

Response from A1A Solar Contracting, Inc

I talked to them today, and they say the system is working as intended. I guess what I got approved for was less than the cost of a system that would be big enough to net-zero my electric bill. :/
