As of Jun 2023, the average cost of solar panels in San Juan is $2.8 per watt making a typical 6000 watt (6 kW) solar system $11,765 after claiming the 30% federal solar tax credit now available.
This is lower than the average price of residential solar power systems across the United States which is currently $3.00 per watt.
The size of a solar panel system also plays a role in how much the installation will cost.
Larger solar installations will typically have a lower cost per watt, because the panels can be purchased at a ‘bulk price’. However, these larger solar systems will still have a higher total cost, because they are made up of more individual panels.

We are very impressed with the high degree of professionalism, knowledge and integrity this company have. Yamitza, Wilson and their crew of certified electricians and techs, guided us, answered questions and concerns from the beginning of the process, gave us orientation on what kind of systems we need it, etc. They were very honest, and gave us different choices of what kind of batteries, the minimum of solar panels we really need it, and interviewed us on our lifestyle and use of appliances, energy, so we got what we really need it. They also gave us advice on what appliance to replace short term and long term, understanding that one has to make and investment and that in the long term one will be saving money. Every time I talk with any of the Energy Fusion Crew, -including Yamitza and Wilson, I feel I am learning a lot about my energy consuming behavior, saving energy, and how to use the equipment to run smartly and efficiently. Una compania ayudando a los Puertorriquenos a ser independientes energeticamenete, con mentes talentosas puertoriquenas, honestidad y grand servicio. Siempre en comunicacion con nosotros y a tiempo en sus citas.

My experience with Ecologicall was excellent. The education up front to ensure I selected the best product for my need was very good. The installation and costs were as quoted. The best part of working with Ecologicall has been their customer service after installation. Three years after the installation, I still call them every once in a while and they are always willing to respond to the call and provide great service. They also keep me up-to-date with latest changes in the industry. Overall, great experience working with Ecologicall.
Our solar system started having troubles at 13 months. we have had five (5) solar panels stop working at about the rate one per month starting summer 2016. One of our 2 inverters malfunctioned. It took 6 weeks or more this spring 2016 to replace it. Now we have 5 panels (inverters) Not functioning. First stopped May 30.2016. Solar edge sent replacements in 2-3 days. But Srinergy keeps stalling, making excuses, etc and it's the beginning of Nov. And they're still NOT installed !!!!! Lost the whole summer Sun on these panels. Horrible!!
Srinergy shows classic signs of a company in financial TROUBLE.

Last year, I went through my share of bad experiences with over-priced solar middlemen and unstable companies that wouldn't deliver. That was until my rep Bryan Parra introduced me to WindMar Home. He guided me with expertise through the exact design I wanted. It was the best and least expensive of my many estimates. I signed up and in no time Bryan accompanied me through the process as WindMar Home pulled the necessary permits and set up the installation date during the heat of the pandemic. All I had to do was open my garage door for them, for an efficient no-contact installation. The first day, they installed the tracks on my roof and prepared the electrical connections. The second day, they delivered and installed my solar panels, Tesla PowerWall II battery, and the different control boxes. And the third day, they handled final inspections via video phone calls, tested and turned the system on. That's it! No-contact and no-hassle installation, even though they were always masked and very professional. At the end of the year, I got my 26% federal tax credit when I filed my taxes. I installed an 8 Kw system and my electric bill went down from $350 to $79 a month. Now I'm adding LED lighting and an EnergyStar hybrid water heater to stretch out my efficiency even more. Everything that Bryan told me was absolutely true and exact, and WindMar Home followed through like no other company could. Most highly recommended. A+++

They hooked up the panels, and left.. then I get a bill from their financial backers saying we owe money… nope! The panels aren’t fully hooked up. They are just sitting on my roof. Then I get a letter saying they are out of business… great . I reach out to the financial backers and they say to wait; they’re working on it. After two months of nothing; I reached out and was told that I need to find someone else…. And then tell them who I’m using so they can bill me…. Nope!!! Don’t ever use harness or mosaic …. They are the only things tied together; unlike my actual power source

Where there is no specific pricing information available for a brand then we have used state pricing data for that brand.
Solar panel manufacturer | Avg. cost per watt |
---|---|
Canadian Solar | $2.61 |
LG Solar | $3.11 |
SunPower | $3.27 |
Panasonic | $3.15 |
LONGi Solar | $2.52 |
The most important difference between buying solar panels and any other purchase is that solar panels last 25-30 years. This is a long, long time and you will need customer service over all that time. The reviews below of the two largest corporate solar installation companies indicate larger corporate solar companies are not delivering this support to their customers.
We recommend you find a small or mid-size, local, family-owned solar company. These companies tend to care more about you and your specific job. You don't want to be on hold to a corporation's call center for the next 25 years!
The cost of solar doesn't just include the equipment and installation costs - it’s also made up of permitting costs, inspection costs, and installer profit margins.
These different components are what make the price of solar fluctuate between installations. Some of the factors that affect solar power system installation costs for specific homes include:
Homes that use more electricity will need more solar panels to cover their energy needs.
Although solar panels do get cheaper on a per-watt basis, the overall cost of the system will increase as more panels are added.
But, the higher a home’s energy usage, the more solar panels can save the homeowners on their energy bills.
The price of solar panels can vary depending on the type of solar panels you choose.
There are two main types of solar panels for residential solar installations: monocrystalline and polycrystalline. Monocrystalline solar panels tend to be more efficient and more expensive than other solar panels. Polycrystalline panels have a lower efficiency rating and come at a lower price point.
The type of inverter you buy will also influence the cost of your solar system.
You may see some solar quotes with prices that seem too good to be true.
If you get quoted for a ridiculously cheap price, the installer might be using low-quality equipment or an unsustainable pricing model. You want to use a solar installer that is charging enough so that they can stay in business - as you’ll be relying on them for the next 25 years!
It’s important to make sure that your installer is giving you the best quality at the best price possible. This is why getting multiple solar quotes is so important.
The overall cost of solar can be influenced by the solar incentives available.
Across the U.S., homeowners can apply for the federal solar tax credit. The solar tax credit makes installing solar more cost-effective by providing homeowners with a tax credit equal to 30% of the cost of their installed solar panel system.
Local solar tax incentives and rebates can end up saving homeowners thousands on a solar installation, especially when they’re used with the federal solar tax credit.
See what solar incentives are available in your area by using our solar panel calculator.
The cost of installing residential solar panels in San Juan varies with the brand of solar panels and inverters you choose, the installation company you choose to install them, the relative ease or difficulty of installing solar panels on your home, and of course the amount of solar panels you need. The amount of solar panels you need is, in turn, related to your energy usage.
The table below shows the data extracted from a real life quote delivered through the SolarReviews marketplace recently for a fairly typical home in San Juan.
As you can see the payback period is relatively short and equates to a much better return on investment than he historical returns that have been available from investing in things like shares or property.
System information | Value |
---|---|
System Size (for 100% usage offset) | 9.3 kW |
Annual power generation | 14,574 kWh |
Pay-back time (assuming Cash purchase) | 9.6 Years |
Internal rate of return (IRR) on investment | 5.8% |
Gross cost | $26,296 |
Total Upfront Incentives and Rebates | -$7,338 |
Net Cost of System after rebated and incentives | $18,962 |
Total Cost of Utility Power Avoided over 25 years | $63,114 |
Please note that the investment return figures do not include the possible increase in property value
