To further distinguish themselves among the competition home solar installers are taking their cues from telecom and cable companies, offering bundled services with their rooftop solar offerings. The latest to make such an option is Vivint Solar, which is now offering a package it calls Fully Integrated. It partnered with ChargePoint this week to offer its electric vehicle (EV) chargers alongside Vivint Solar’s other offerings, which include rooftop solar and an energy storage system from Mercedes Benz.
Vivint Solar has quickly added its bundled services, saying it reflected its customers’ wants. Referring to a Research Now study, Vivint Solar said are interested in bundling residential solar energy systems with other technologies. It found that 54 percent are interested in bundling a smart home system, 46 percent in home energy storage and 28 percent in an EV charging.
Earlier this year it announced the partnership with Mercedes Benz to bring the company’s energy storage system to the US for the first time. With the latest offering it’s helping customers be even more green, getting their power for their home and their vehicle from Vivint Solar’s rooftop solar installation and saving excess energy produced by the solar panels in the battery system. It’s like Xfinity’s Triple Play package but for energy.
"Vivint Solar is the only residential solar provider that offers rooftop solar customers a one-stop shop to meet their clean energy needs with this suite of capabilities," said David Bywater, CEO of Vivint Solar. “Homeowners who want to embrace clean energy can trust Vivint Solar to make their transition easy and simple by either purchasing the complete home solar solution or by buying the elements they need now with the option of adding others later. It is completely flexible and customizable."
Though Vivint Solar said it’s the first to bundle all three together other companies are also bundling services like Tesla’s SolarCity and SunPower, among others, each of which offer energy storage and EV charging options. While Tesla and SolarCity are offering their Powerwall energy storage systems with solar roofs they’re not necessarily bundled with Tesla’s EV’s and EV chargers for the home. Even ahead of the acquisition of SolarCity by Tesla, the two had partnered to offer Tesla’s Powerwall with SolarCity’s services. In 2014 SunPower partnered with SunPower, 3Degrees and Bosch to offer an integrated system with charging for Volkswagen’s and Audi’s electric vehicles.
The ChargePoint Home EV charger is Energy Star certified and charges EVs up to six times faster than a standard 110V outlet, according to Vivint Solar. it can deliver up to 25 miles of range per hour in terms of charging an EV. Moreover, the company said it now has more than 40,000 ChargePoint stations across North America.
"We're committed to getting everyone behind the wheel of an EV with solutions that enable drivers to charge everywhere they live, work and play," said Colleen Jansen, chief marketing officer, ChargePoint Inc. "Along with unprecedented EV adoption, we're seeing growing interest in solar among drivers, so we're excited to partner with Vivint Solar to offer a complete solution that not only enables people to choose to drive electric, but also charge up conveniently at home with solar energy."
Vivint Solar is launching the offering in select California markets first. The company said that customers can customize the package based on their needs.Tweet
