Kokosing Solar (Previously Third Sun Solar)

We had a 30 panel system installed by Third Sun. They did a good job and the system has worked well. Last year one of the panels went bad and we contacted them about the warranty. The panels are from LG. . We were told when we contracted with Third Sun that if there was a warranty issue, we could go through them. When I reminded them of this they said they would look into it only to send an email a few days later saying they could not get in touch with LG. They basically said that it was our responsibility to contact LG but would not even supply any information about how to do that. The next issue has come up recently. When we purchased the panels we specifically asked what the cost would be for them to remove and replace the panels if we had to have the roof replaced. They told us that is would cost around $4,000. We are now having that done, so I contacted them and the price they now give me for removing and replacing the panels is over $19,000. Even given inflation this is outrageous. After the government tax rebates that is only a few thousand less than the original cost of the whole project and I suspect that we could put an entirely new system in for not much more than that. The message is beware of this new incarnation of Third Sun. Whatever integrity the original company had is apparently gone, so do not expect any help or service from them after installation. We are not only committed to solar but also in another area of the solar business, so we are well informed about costs. Kokosing is not a company with which we would advise doing business.

It was great working with EVERY person at Kokosing. Everyone was easy to work with, knowledgeable, and responsive! The installers/electricians are experienced. They knew exactly what to do and made everything look great. The salesman (John Miller) presented and explained options, which none of the other solar companies mentioned to me (unless I asked them). John quoted microinverters, while more expensive, were better for my L-shaped layout. Also, Kokosing was unique in proactively quoting 405w panels, which means a more compact design (less roof area needed).

Very transparent process from start to install. Forthright, friendly and responsive to any and all questions or inquiries during sales, planning and installation. No hard sale re: sale of system. Installers were cordial, efficient and timely. System went on line a week ago. The monitoring capability via "Enlighten" is a great tool.

Awesome company...lives up to their word and delivers quality. Just had my system installed earlier this week. The crew was professional, clean, and did a GREAT JOB! The project manager has kept me well informed and the process from start to power on has been very smooth and much easier than I had expected. Third Sun took care of the coordination with the power company setting up Net Metering and I am now putting energy on the GRID. I am even impressed with power generation on cloudy days, with production above my consumption (it is fall, so the A/C isn't running, but the days are also shorter and the sun is lower). The application to monitor the system is VERY easy to use and I marvel at watching the dashboard on my laptop as I am able to monitor how much power I am consuming, how much power I am pulling from the grid, how much power I am producing, and how much NET power I am putting back on the grid, making my meter run backwards. Knowledgeable, professional, and communicative. I'm really happy with their work and glad I went with Third Sun even though they were a little more expensive than my other option. Worth it for their expertise. I know the transition to Kokosing was bumpy internally but from the outside it did not affect me much at all, and that was impressive in its own right. I will be recommending them to everyone I know who is interested in solar.

Third Sun solar installed our system in August of 2020. We contacted several Ohio-based companies and they were all quick to respond and offer a proposal. We chose Third Sun based on their established track record. It has been a very positive experience and the results exceeded projections. Currently, we are offsetting 100% of our electrical needs with the solar system. This, in Dayton, Ohio which is not the sunniest place in the world. Go Solar!

It's been a dream of mine for over twelve years to have a solar array on my home. It's come true! The wife gets oak flooring and I got solar panels from the sale of our old home. I was a little quicker to act, but yours truly will be doing the flooring. From start to finish the process was perfect. I especially liked the salesperson's candid explanation that the other company was quoting too large an array for Janet's and my needs. Our 10 kW array will almost offset our use and the gap can be made up with better energy efficiency measures. I improved the efficiency of it over 60%. The owners are actively involved in promoting solar locally and regionally. and they truly live their philosophy. All our contacts with Third Sun have been positive. From introduction and inquiry to assessments to estimates (technical and financial), to appointments to installation, Third Sun has been clear in communication, thorough in explanation, and responsive to questions. Installation schedules were clear well in advance (with notice that there is a significant weather-dependency factor), and the installation itself (in mid January) took a day and a half (we did have a fairly simple layout to deal with); they arrive late morning on a Monday, on Wednesday morning the system went into operation after a city inspection. There have been no problems - zero - in the six months since. All our calls to them, through the entire process to the present, have been returned quickly and all questions answered completely. Great people to work with, and a great product. Also, it's fun to monitor the system online.

I contacted several solar companies and was extremely pleased with the response from Third Sun Solar. From initial contact through installation I could not have been more pleased. I worked 38 years in the utility business and have rarely had as good of an experience with a vendor as I have with Third Sun Solar. If you are considering a solar installer you need to at least call TSS.

We are very pleased by the quality of work and product line. Third Sun also re-worked their schedule a little to make sure all work was completed before 12/31/2016, so that we could apply for the tax credits available for 2016. The electrician took pride in his work inside the house too...the work is clean and looks professional.

We cannot say enough about Third Sun, The communication from start to finish was exceptional. All our questions and concerns were answered in a timely manner. We had some zoning hurdles to overcome and Third Sun helped supply info to get through the process. They came to the site visit and to the install day on the agreed time. The installation was very clean and professionally done, even the county inspectors that came for the final inspection said it was one of the best looking installs they had seen. Buying my first home was stressful enough and from the start we planned on going solar. Third Sun did a great job of making sure that stress wasn't part of the that process. The 10kw system that we installed was another large investment but we couldn't be more pleased with the process . From start to finish the level of professionalism was spot on. Our home is all electric and we knew it would be an energy monster. From that first day the system was switched on it has helped us tame that beast. The system was insalled in Oct. and we have watched our bill drop each month with May and June at $0 and July $2.15. To say that we are happy is an understatement. Thank you Third Sun.

I was very pleased with the one year recap of my system. It was estimated at @ 79% and came in at 81% of electric usage covered. My electric out-of-pocket costs were reduced 80%, included in this figure, 8% came from carbon credits. Installation went the smoothest in the entire process and concerns were dealt with promptly. I would recommend to others looking to install a solar system that it is important to get very accurate historical information pertaining to your electric usage when in the costing/design stage.

I am very pleased with the installation Third Sun Solar did at our home. In spite of rain, they were here each day and had the entire installation complete in three days. This included trenching from our barn, where the array is located, to our home. The installation is neat and professionally done.

I was surprised by the short length of time the installation process took. Your crew got to our house early on a Friday morning and the electric company came the following Friday to switch out our meter. The whole process was quick and efficient. Our first post solar electric bill was $32 for a partial month. Our April bill was $91

One phone call set the whole process in motion. The team from Third Sun guided me through the application, financing, state and local permits. The installation was the easiest part. One and half day and the crew was gone. We did not feel their presence. I received a simple email afterwards notifying me that the power company approved my net metering. I flipped the switch and Clean Solar flowed on a COLD DEC WINTER DAY in OHIO. Best Service from great people!

Company was easy to work with for my first set of panels. They answered all of my questions and the installation went very smoothly. The output of the system is even higher than they estimated. I'm having another set of panels installed along with a battery backup system.

I am very happy with my system. I had been contemplating installing a system for a while. After a false start with another company I thought maybe it wasnt going to happen but I decided to contact Third Sun. It takes me a long time to make decisions on large projects and this one was no different but my contact was very patient with me and answered all my questions no matter how tiresome they may have been. There was a modification to the initial quote due to some modifications that were required to my barn but they were very up front with me and worked with me on the different options. I don't normally hire anything out so I am pretty tough to please but the installation staff was top notch and the install couldn't have gone better. After installation there was an issue with one of the inverters but they addressed the issue and made it right. In the end I am glad I tried a second company and that it was Third Sun.

Third Sun Solar installed a ground mount 36 solar panels (Sharp) and 36 Enphase micro inverters for a 9 K system on my property in February of 2014. It is located in Butler County, Ohio and is located 150 ft from my house and it is working great Third Sun Solar provided me with a quote that was lower than ICON and another company and I know I have a much better product. The workers were very pleasant, professional, and did an outstanding job. I really could not be more pleased with this company. When i had questions, I had immediate person to person contact. I am also very pleased with the result. So far, my solar panels have been putting out more electricity than what I was expecting. High solar output only works well of course when it is sunny and bright outside and turns my electric meter backwards and provides me with credits that I use at night and on cloudy days. I am still dependent on the electric company for reliable 24 hour electric service, I am very please with my 9 K solar set up as it has cut my electric use from the Electric company by at least 80%. Between the months of March and November 2014 the total output from my 36 panels has been 10,442 KWH and in my case I was not charged for any electric use by the electric company. My first electric use bill will occur when I receive my December electric bill. Why, because my electric meter has consistently read less than zero for billing months March-November. I chose Third Sun Solar after receiving competitive bids from two other companies. Third Sun Solar was very professional in how they handled the design of this solar system. Even though my solar system is located over 400 feet from my house, there is very little loss of electric power, because they were willing to install large cables between the solar panels and my house. The solar system communicates with my computer, so I can follow its output. I am very pleased with this solar system and Third Sun Solar.

From our initial inquiry through the installation of the system and to the ongoing after sales support, we have been consistently impressed with the level of professionalism, service and knowledge at every level of Third Sun's operation. My wife and I had a 5.28KW array installed at our home in the middle of July and have been enjoying the result since. The process was smooth and informative, the people at Third Sun were able to answer our questions and work with us to get financing as well as approval through the city and HoA. Project came in on time and on quote, though we did reschedule a few times due to our vacation time as well as emergency needs of other customers.

Ours was a complex job involving coordination between Third Sun and another contractor. The two teams worked together flawlessly. There were no unpleasant surprises of any kind. We got the system we wanted and it cost what we expected it to cost. I *love* watching the meter run backwards! The crew listened to us and explained anything we had questions about. They took our advice and addressed our concerns. Everything passed inspection the first time. The system generates the expected amount of power. We even once saw it deliver a bit more than rated max power.

Excellent installation. Extremely concientious about the work and the final product. Went above and beyond to run the monitor to my home office location so I could monitor system performance. Very knowledgeable in making recommendations about final location for the installation of the panels. Very satisfied.

We didn`t know that quarterly reporting would be required for the State of Ohio grant process. Not a problem, just a surprise.

A person from the utility company came by the next week to change the meter system and he told me that this Third Sun job was the most professional he had seen (and, he`s seen many). I have known about global warming since I was in elementary school and have tried to make the Earth better for future generations although I think we have destroyed the Earth beyond a repair we can control.

They had to do alot of extra work and upgrade my circuit panel. for yrs I intended to have a PV array installed and when my mortgage was paid off the time was right. Also contacted several other companies in Columbus who claimed to be knowledgeable abot PV installation but thsy didn`t have a clue. When I contacted Third solar... they instantly took charge and did all the paper work and calculations necessary to do the installation. I was afraid that their location outside of Columbs would present a problem but it never entered into the situation. I would hire them instantly to add on or upgrade my array.

i am very pleased with my new system. it functions well, and does everything i expected it to. geoff and michelle at third sun were very easy to work with, and the installation is sleek, and blends in with my cabin very well. i have recommended them many times. if the world utilized alternative energy, we would have a healthier planet.

We had known Jeff Greenfield for some years. We took one or more of the solar tours which his company helped to sponsor. We had a pretty good idea of what we wanted, though we didn`t really know the technical details. I thought the crew worked quickly and efficiently. In mounting the panels on the roof, the technician drilled seven holes that benetrated the drywall inside the two upstairs bedrooms and hallway. That was the only mistake we saw and they promptly patched and painted. Jeff did the final briefing of the family two days ago and he will be sending us a step-by-step instructional manual for monitoring and maintaining the system. We liked the fact that we can sell our excess energy to the utility company. We liked the fact that the utility company (AEP) was cooperating with this innovation in energy conservation and production. We liked the fact that we had a local company (Third Sun Wind and Solar) that was in this business and making a success of it.
