Scammers, and liars

Sunrun lied about the rebates and about installing a new electric panel. They told us to lie to con ed about getting a tesla to get extra panels. We did not dothis. They sent techs out in high winds. Then they sold our data and now i get a ton of spam. I know it was them because on our paperwork they mixed my phone number up with my spouse name, so I know exactly who did it.

Misleading saving program and marketing

Hello Everyone, Please Do not buy or lease Sunrun solar. They are scamming you. They did it to me as well. They said all warranty and all shit they will handle includes maintenance. You will be saving this much and all. I have not saved any single penny and on top of that they are sending monthly bills. When marketing person came to me he said we will handle everything. When I talked to their customer relation manager, " He said we are not responsible for system is working or not. We track the system but it will take time to resolve the issue. Also, if system is not working still you need to pay and we will asset the system every 2 years and then we will refund." This is fraud and you guys should aware of it. They are taking your sign on all pages and nobody wants read those small letters terms and conditions. This is fraud!!!!! Be alert!!!!

NEVER do Business with this company

If you enjoy being lied to and taken advantage of this is your company. They are liars and cheats. They do not inform you of any potential problems until they are already attached to your home and your bank account, costing you thousands of dollars in unforseen issues. Disappointed

Over the course of less than three years, my Sunrun solar panels failed to function for extended periods on two separate occasions, each lasting several months. What made the experience particularly frustrating was that during one of those outages, the company was apparently aware the system was not operating properly and never proactively notified me. When I contacted customer service repeatedly for assistance, I consistently received polite acknowledgments that they “understood my frustration,” but little to no meaningful progress was made toward resolving the issue. I requested that a technician be sent to repair the system, only to be told that I did not have a performance guarantee and would therefore need to pay for the service call myself. This information turned out to be incorrect. After I continued pressing the issue, Sunrun eventually acknowledged that I did in fact have a performance guarantee and finally scheduled a technician. By that point, the panels had reportedly not been functioning for approximately six months, despite my numerous calls over many weeks simply asking the company to repair its own product. After the system was finally repaired for the second time, I requested reimbursement or compensation for the months during which the panels were not operational. A representative informed me that I would be eligible for a performance guarantee review in 10 months. Given the length of the outages, the repeated service failures, and the amount of time I spent trying to get basic support, I explained that waiting until then was unacceptable and requested a reasonable resolution immediately. The offer ultimately made by the company was, in my opinion, so inadequate that I decided it was better to wait the 10 months and instead share my experience. My experience was not defined by a single equipment failure — issues can happen with any company. What disappointed me most was the lack of proactive communication, the difficulty in getting the company to acknowledge its own obligations under the agreement, and the amount of effort required simply to have the system repaired.

Unethical / unprofessional

Constantly schedule appointments for repairs. After 5 visits and 2 no shows still want another visit. Constantly calling off of work for their incompetence. Refuse to give any sort of credit. Will lie about not having product when they arrive. Received conflicting information on technician being "sick" but another rep said parts did not arrive.

Follow Up To Previous Review

I wrote a review regarding SunRun sub contracting Bright Planet Solar to do the installation on my roof. They did a horrendous job and left holes on my roof from having to remove the panels multiple times do to not being up to the town code. They covered the holes with metal but did not seal it properly and I have leaks. They did not want to take responsibility so I hired an attorney. We were in communication for a while but then when we had reached an agreement their attorney stopped contacting us. Lauren Lesser from SunRun contacted me about 3 months ago to explain to me that SunRun had closed the case because they said they stopped hearing from my attorney. We were still in communication with Bright Planet Solar's attorney for over a year until they stopped responding. Lauren promised that they will get to the bottom of this and will try to help. The first couple of weeks Lauren was on top of it but about 2 months ago when SunRun's attorneys were supposed to contact my attorney, they went silent again. This is just a horrible experience overall from both SunRun and Bright Planet.

False Advertising

Entered lease for a 25 panel 10.25kw system. Max output is only 7.6kw because Sunrun undersized the system with a 7.6kw inverter. I get the same output when I cover 6of 25 panels with a drop cloth. This is not an accident. This is so they can stand behind their production output as the panels degrade over time. So I am paying for 6 panels that are useless. When asking for anything, they just throw the “you agreed to the terms” in your face.

Pressured, dishonest sales tactics, including outright lies

Completely pressured sales tactics and outright lies. "We're going to fill out two APPLICATIONS . . . " Turns out the second "application" was a sales and installation contract I had to sign "before anyone steps foot on your property" WITHOUT Sunrun telling me what the purchase price would be. Who signs a contract without knowing the cost? The Sunun representative also outright lied that he "was with the State," and kept saying "the State tells us," to fraudulently induce by stating falsely that he was employed by the State (when his email address is with Sunrun.) To top it off the representative was a young man who demeaned the young woman who had come to my door before him, describing her as "just an intern." He was condescending to a woman (me) much older than him, with more life experience, and advanced degrees over the Cal Poly degree he kept bragging about during his scammy sales pitch. Fortunately, I saw that the second "application" was actually a 25-year sales/installation contract with a 5-day cancellation period and no indication of any cost or purchase price and did not sign. The whole experience was highly unpleasant.

They are using solid wire instead of stranded

Purchased a new home. Sun Run installed my solar and power wall. They used the wrong wiring 10 awg SOLID instead of 8 awg stranded wiring. Caused thermo resistance and melted the shielding and wire on the PV terminal inside PW. Powerwall was falling for months (9) before they fixed it resulting in an 6k PG&E True-up bill. They stated because I purchased the Solar instead of renting it that it was my issue, not theirs, and they won’t cover the true of Bill under their performance guarantee. Even though it was an installer issue. To remedy it, instead of replacing it with the proper standed wiring, stated by Tesla, they just cut the burnt wiring off and jumper stranded wiring to the PV terminals. Cheap hack way of resolving it. I would highly recommend not using Sun Run. So basically they did an improper install, don’t fix it correctly, and didn’t cover me in their performance guarantee and left me stuck with a 6k pge bill. Shame on them.

I finally connected to a customer satisfaction person after 7 months of issues with my solar. I felt I was finally being supported through my issues with Sunrun Solar Powerwall failure and downtimes. Now, I’ve been ignored for a week, asking for answers to questions via email. I’ve left vm and emails with no response. What am I supposed to think? Do I feel supported? Absolutely not!

Service system

Last week I had a service call on my solar system on my roof. Sunrun is the company who put it up and it needed some work JAN MONTALVO was the employee that came out. He was by far one of the best employees I have ever seen every safety item that OSHA would want. He followed unbelievably so he was so oriented to it. He fixed the problem on one of my inverters, he still didn’t see enough output so he went up on the roof. He found where one of the leads had gotten corroded on a line and he fixed it. Then he came down and ran run again to see how much it was put now. He was so detailed that you couldn’t ask for a better employee. I’ve run companies most of my life. I’ve had 860 employees for me at one time. Let me tell you. This is a great employee. I told you when he was here. If I was still doing my regular job I would’ve hired him from the company he’s working for because he was that efficient and dedicated to doing what was right for the Customer. It is great to see employees like him. you are blessed Sunrun to have this man working for you. He is great.

Buyer beware

BUYER BEWARE - Our system had been down for months SUNRUN have consistently let us down, from Customer service who don't reply on time to technicians who just fail to show uop and reschedule multiple times! We mad the big mistake of trusting them - If I could give them ZERO stars I would - BUYER BEWARE - if your system goes down and and youve spent multiple tens of thousands to install it then you'll likely be getting HIGH electricity bills and SUNRUN will not care! you'll be on your own - BUYER BEWARE - do NOT use this company!

They dont pay their referrals

Trying to get your referral reward from SunRun? Dont count on it. After numerios calls and a lot of time on the phone I still haven't got my referral. I should have learned after the 1st time I did a referral and didn't get the $500 I was promised. Now a second time I was promised the $500 referral verified everything again and I get, well open up a ticket to get that to you. 4 months later still noting. Just know if you refer Sunrun dont expect them to follow through with giving you the referral money.

Bad service and broke there end of the contract

They are currently trying to sue us because we haven't had the panels up in a few years before the end of the contract. However when you go to cancel they won't get back to you and won't help you fix your problem. We had to pull an insurance claim out raising the premium on our home all because these idiots don't know how to make a fair contract and now they are trying to take us for everything we're worth. TERRIBLE COMPANY I hope they get more competent people to take over or abolish this shit company immediately.

7 months after full payment and not a kilowatt of solar energy

The process of installing solar with Sunrun began in septemper of 2024, full payment to Sunrun ($46,000) was made in september of 2025 and here we are in April 2026 and not a single kilowatt of solar power. Completely unacceptable business practices, incapable of getting of completing a job in a timely manner. Extemrely frustrating and disappointing. I do not know the system size in kilowatt hours but put in a figure to be able to send this message

When you see this company listen to half of their name and RUN

System fails once again, battery literally melted from the bottom and took months to replace, no show appointments and months to fix, I turned off autopay when I seen their system fail and here we are. After all that time they want me to backpay them 820+ for the 4 months of no batteries and they said my panels worked so I owe them for service, they’ve offered $200/ I rejected and now $400 final good will offer which I’m also rejecting. If you’ve read this far congratulations, now I’ve been through this with them before where my bill racked up to over $1200, yet those case managers credited the account and got me back to fully operational before, I’m not sure what happened in the years following but it seems their customer service is depleted and they just threaten you and bombard you with automated calling systems and now I’m apparently past the point of payment where I’m tinkering on the verge of disconnect which is their next plan of action. They finally replaced the battery which melted with THE SAME BATTERY TYPE but this new battery is just the old model with a metal bottom now so you CANNOT SEE IT MELT this time but its inevitable that it’s going to fail again, but it will take longer to detect as it’s not visible to you anymore. I also am aware now that they employed the salespeople at the time of sales to push these LG BATTERIES even though they knew it was a failed product and I know this because that salesperson quit because he couldn’t do it to us and maintain integrity within our communities and has told me this post employment. Sunrun is such a failure of a company that locked so many people into horrible leases and lacks accountability and integrity, as a business who is monitored by the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU it amazes me that they still are able to operate in 2026, I’d be ashamed to wear the uniform and noticed they no longer stand in Home Depot and Costco to get people locked into their horrible business and failure of products and equipment.

Horrible Service

If I could get this company, a zero I would! They convinced me too invest in solar panels and that they were the number one company with great support two years later my roof leaks profusely and I have three professional contractors that proved it was because of a faulty installation. It’s been three months and I cannot get anybody to help me. They won’t even remove the panels so that I can get the roof repaired. I am so disappointed that I ever got solar panels. Much less chose Sunrun. The bill did not save me any money at all as they only divided up the average and now it seems to go up every year complete waste of time costing me now over $50,000 and still climbing

Very dissatisfied with Sunrun

We had a very disappointing experience with Sunrun and would not recommend them. We were promised a $500 referral credit for referring a family member. I referred my brother, who completed installation, and the referral was later denied with no clear explanation. My mother also referred me and was denied her referral credit as well. This feels very misleading. The installation process was also problematic. Our system failed inspection because required components (including the car charger discussed during setup) were not installed properly. After that, it took months to get the system turned on due to poor coordination between Sunrun and the city inspector. On top of that, we are now paying more than we were before going solar, which is the opposite of what was represented during the sales process. To make matters worse, we recently had another solar company review our system and learned that we were given one of the lowest-tier battery options without this ever being explained to us. Customer service has been dismissive and has not offered any real solutions. We have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and are still hoping for a resolution, but based on our experience, we would strongly advise others to be cautious.

Would not do this again

Sunrun is the worst. First and foremost the friend who referred me has been unable to collect her referral money because they claim I didn’t refer her in time. But I had given her name to our salesman, Chris, when I signed up. Next, there was a delay in permitting, which is their responsibility, not mine, and the system didn’t turn on until September. My winter PG&E bill was about $400 monthly IN ADDITION TO my SunRun payment. Finally, I changed my payment date and was not told that the system would always show a past due balance. Which it now does. Despite my having paid them every single month. I can’t wait to move so I don’t have to deal with this company.

Terrible customer service

There is clearly an issue with my system. My recorded generation accepted by my electric provider has decreased by 65% between 2024 (avg production of 1452.5 KWH) to 2025 (avg of 516.42 KHW). So far in 2026, that average has gone down further to 467 KHW. Sunrun did not seem willing to help, they indicated basically there was nothing wrong with the system (numbers don't lie), and now I need to initiate a form which basically requires me to relinquish any and all legal remedies except arbitration if a dispute arrives. Further, per Sunrun's monitoring, my system is meeting expectations per my contract, so I will not be eligible for any reimbursement. However, my electric provider bills have gone from an average of $20.19/month in 2024 to $269.72/Mo in 2025 (more than 10x increase). My electricity requirements have increased as well (avg. 1431.9 khw used in 2024 vs. 1756.08 khw used in 2025), but that change is only a 23% increase, and should not result in a 10x increase in my electricity bill. Sunrun is not providing this customer the service it promised.

Terrible Experience with Sunrun

I have been a Sunrun customer since 2021. We have had issues and concerns with a number of customer service and overall technical performance areas. Recently, we had our Tesla battery which was purchased from Sunrun with our Sunrun system completely die in less than five years. This problem was exacerbated by a supply chain issue. But over the course of my conversations with Sunrun I was repeatedly told this is really not a Sunrun issue because this is a Tesla battery and it is not the company's responsibility. This became the overall theme with everyone from untrained and unknowledgeable reps who lacked any empathy for the situation to people at the top that proved to be snakes. One of these people, Joe Nath, a top customer realations employee said that we would have a conversation about compensation, which he said was owed to me for the technical issues and the way I was treated as a client. Speaking with Joe last week after the new battery was installed, he determined that he could give me no more than $150 dollars for my trouble and time. I called this amount insulting and to date have not accepted the check from the docusign documents given to me to absolve Sunrun for their issues. I have had solar with small companies like Apex in New York. Their customer service team was amazing, attentive, and empathetic if there ever was an issue, which was rare. Sunrun, one of the largest solar providers is a completely different experience ran like the people that represents them, shady and incompetent.

Account Transfer

Apparently Sunrun bought out my contract through my original solar company, however, they could not locate my account. Turns out they put my account with my husband, under my mom's name and at an address she doesn't live at. My unit hasn't been working for months and I was frustrated the first time I called that I just left it since it was Winter time. Today, I called, I could barely understand the gentleman helping me but still cannot understand how two accounts got lumped into one and they aren't aware that my unit is down and not working? If you're going to purchase another Solar company, maybe you should make your new customers aware. Now I have to sign documents for them to separate the accounts? None of this makes any sense, not to mention I am in AZ and this wasn't a state option when leaving this review. Beyond frustrated.

Just Had My Solar Installed

Had a great experience with my install team from SunRun. William was the site lead and was very communicative about the process and covered each step, to include expected timelines, throughout. Every stipulation my HOA required, William and his team took care of. My install looked clean and professionally done. I would absolutely suggest SunRun for anyone wanting solar and highly recommend William's team for their install!

SunRun- Down Twice a Year, Every Year

I am writing this to warn anyone considering Sunrun. My 66-year-old father was sold a 25 year lease with the promise that it would cover 80% of our energy needs. Instead, we have spent the last two years paying a $115-120/month lease for panels, inverters, and a battery that consistently fail, paired with a customer service department that actively avoids communication. This is my second review on SunRun, as they continue to show that they are inept in maintaining a functioning solar panel system, while still happily charging me monthly. The most glaring issue is that the system has stopped generating energy four separate times in less than two years. Each time, the system goes down during peak production months, and Sunrun offers zero proactive notification. If I didn't check the app daily, we would be paying for a dead system indefinitely. August 2024: System hit zero production. Sunrun refused to pause billing while the system was broken and wouldn't send a tech for over a month. December 2024 – April 2025: The battery broke. It took four months to get a resolution. July 2025: System down again. March 2026: System down yet again. There is a clear pattern where hot weather causes the system to fail, yet Sunrun offers no permanent fix—only temporary patches after months of badgering. The "support" is a maze of ghosting and redirects. I have had case managers (Mckaila B., Maria S.) hang up on me, ignore voicemails, and transfer me to hold lines with "90-minute" wait times. We only saw any movement on repairs after I filed formal complaints with the BBB, Solar Reviews, and the CPUC. The Bottom Line: Sunrun will lock you into a decades-long contract and then abandon you the moment their hardware fails. Do not let your elderly parents or loved ones sign anything with this company. You aren't leasing a solar system; you're leasing a headache.

GOT MY CONNECTION LAST OCTOBER 2025,, THEY CAME TO MY HOUSE PRESENT TO INSTALL SOLAR SYSTEM FOR ME TO SAVE MONEY,, THEY CALCULATE THE HIGH USAGE OF ELECTRICITY AND AMOUNT OF BILLS. Terrible company

My husband and I got solar from sunrun not even a year ago. Like everyone else we were told that with the panels we have we would not be paying an electric bill and would actually be selling some back to SDGE. NOT! Now we pay sunrun and SDGE. There are a lot of lawyers looking for these cases so I think we will do that!

I would give negative 100 stars if I could, run fast!

They are preditory and lie about what their service offers, theres a 3.5% escalation in price for the lease, they dont help with repairs, they sell you systems that dont produce what you need, and screw over every customer. So many lawsuits against them, complaints to Attorney general (which they put in their contract you are not allowed to do!) Their contract makes ot so you cant hold them accountable because they are after your money and thats it! They dont care about integrity or their customers. Run far as you can from them!

Run from Sunrun!

We have had our system for 4 years now and it has been offline more than it has produced. It brakes. We wait for someone to come out and repair it. Months go by its fixed. I month later its broken again. Rinse and repeat. My roof leaks in 8 different spots and my panels over my porch broke loose in a thunderstorm six months ago and they still haven't sent someone out to look at them let alone fix them. A special shout out to Gabriel Thompson who has had our account for months now and is part of a "solutions team" who has done nothing. Not one phone call and a few emails to tell us she's "working"on the problem. I cant believe that a "Solutions Team" cannot manage to get someone out to my house, to fix my solar panels, that are in danger of blowing off, for the last six months! Customers aren't important

Our system stopped operating due to a mechanical issue. Our contract includes monitoring services by Sunrun, and according to their own staff, their system detected the issue in June 2025. A case file was opened but never assigned to anyone. Because the issue was not addressed, the system shut down completely in August. I only discovered the problem in December when I checked my Edison true-up bill (our cycle runs August–July). The bill was extremely high, more than I’ve ever paid in an entire year. When I contacted Sunrun, a case manager found the original June notification. They scheduled repairs (which took about a month), and I was told to contact billing afterward to request compensation. It is now March 2, 2026. It took two technician visits to get the system running again, and I have been paying high Edison Tier 2 (or higher) rates for six months without solar production. Sunrun’s compensation offer was a $75 credit and waiving the repair fee for their own system’s mechanical failure. When I questioned why monitoring did not prevent this, I was told that monitoring is only a convenience and that I should be checking the app daily myself. Because I did not notify them sooner, they claim they are not obligated to compensate me, citing contract language that production is not guaranteed. To be fair, I did not pay Sunrun during the months the system wasn’t generating. However, I incurred significantly higher SCE electricity charges as a result. I accept responsibility for not noticing sooner, but having a monitoring service in my contract, only to be told it’s essentially my responsibility to monitor daily, feels misleading and demonstrates poor customer service.

Horrible Experience

Dear Sunrun Team, I am writing to report a serious issue regarding the solar panel system installed at my property. When we first met with your sales associate, we were told that Sunrun would install a system designed to cover approximately 96% of our electricity usage. This was based on a proposal of 18 panels with an estimated annual production of 9,300 kWh. However, the utility company later informed us that the maximum allowable annual production should not exceed 8,100 kWh. As a result, Sunrun reduced the system to 14 panels, stating that the revised system would produce approximately 7,500 kWh per year. After the township inspection, the final rebate documentation clarified that each installed panel produces only 410 kWh annually. This results in a total system production of approximately 5,700 kWh per year—covering only about 70% of our electricity usage, not the 96% originally promised. This discrepancy is significant and does not align with the expectations set during the sales process. I am requesting a prompt review of this matter and a resolution that reflects the original commitment made to us. We addressed this matter with our sales representative, who informed us that she would contact her manager and get back to us. unfortunately, since that conversation, we have not received any updates, and the issue remains unresolved. We kindly request a prompt response and a clear explanation of the situation, as well as next steps to resolve this matter.

Stay Away

I deeply regret choosing Sunrun. After Sunrun installed solar panels on my home, we began experiencing a roof leak that did not exist prior to their work. Despite multiple repair attempts by Sunrun and their contractors, the leak has never been fully resolved. Each time it rains, the leak returns — causing ongoing interior damage and stress. What’s most frustrating is the lack of urgency and accountability. Communication has been inconsistent, follow-ups are slow or nonexistent, and repairs are treated as “temporary fixes” rather than real solutions. During active rain, water continues to enter my home, and we have now discovered mold forming on our ceiling as a direct result of the unresolved leak. I have had to escalate this matter through formal complaints and mediation just to get attention. No homeowner should have to chase a large company this hard to fix damage caused by their installation. Sunrun markets peace of mind and professionalism — but my experience has been the opposite. If you value your roof, your home, and responsive customer service, I strongly recommend doing extensive research before signing a contract with this company.

SunRun's Extended Non-Production With Inadequate Resolution

I am a New York customer and experienced extended system underperformance and non-production during 2025. From February through September 2025, my system recorded zero or near-zero production for multiple billing cycles. During this time, automatic monthly lease payments continued without suspension. I did not receive proactive notification that the system was not producing. A technician visited on September 29, 2025 and indicated the system had been malfunctioning for most of the year. Production resumed after that service visit. After multiple written requests to customer care to open a case and review the issue, a credit was eventually applied. However, the resolution did not fully address the impact of the prolonged outage for the following reasons: • Billing continued during documented months of non-production. • The credit calculation was not clearly explained. • It did not appear to fully reconcile all zero-production months. • It did not address increased utility charges incurred during the outage. • There was a significant delay between internal awareness of system failure and repair. Sunrun promotes system monitoring and a performance guarantee. In my experience, monitoring did not result in timely notification, billing was not paused during non-performance, and resolution required repeated follow-up on my part. Consumers should carefully review how monitoring, billing, and performance guarantee provisions function in practice during extended outages.
