Beware of the sales pitch, read the contract carefully
My experience with Sunrun has been a major regret. The biggest problem was that what the salesperson told us verbally was very different from what was actually written in the contract. Unfortunately, we trusted the sales representative and did not go through every page of the agreement carefully before signing. The salesperson made verbal promises and explanations, but when we later reviewed the contract, we found that important terms and limitations were not what we understood from the sales conversation. When it comes to a major purchase like solar, verbal promises mean very little if they are not written into the contract. I also felt pressured to move quickly and sign the agreement. In hindsight. There are also terms in the contract that I believe a typical homeowner could easily overlook — including limitations regarding solar production, roof work, and what is and isn't guaranteed. For example, our agreement states that there is “No Production Guarantee,” even though the system's projected production and energy offset were important parts of the sales discussion. The contract also states that if the solar system needs to be removed and reinstalled because the roof is replaced, that cost is the homeowner's responsibility. My advice to anyone considering Sunrun: DO NOT rely on the salesperson's verbal promises. Get everything in writing. Read the entire contract before signing. Don't let anyone pressure you into signing immediately. And honestly, if you're not comfortable reading a long solar contract yourself, have an attorney or another qualified professional review it. Even using an AI tool to help identify confusing or unfavorable terms is better than simply signing without understanding what you're agreeing to. I personally regret not doing this before signing. Based on my experience with the sales process and the differences between what we were told and what the contract actually says, I cannot recommend Sunrun. Take your time, read the fine print, and make sure every promise the salesperson makes is written into the agreement before you sign anything.

Customer service
I called roof leaking from installation penetration for yers has caused mold. I need a whole new roof and mold remediation. They were not will to help. I am highly allergic t mold and have been sick for 3 years all documented and they will not allow me out of contract since I am dishing out 22k for everything. I know there are ways they can help. Do not use them at all never allow them to install panels on you roof. I loved the solar and the discount I received but hate how uncaring and unconcerned they are about my health

Karina McClanahan (sales rep) is amazing! She is the main reason I chose Sunrun; she is definitely an asset to the company. Also, installers were exactly on time and they were professional and polite and they cleaned up everything. That’s as far as the transaction has gotten - looking forward to getting them operational.

Never a call back for my problem 16 days
I have solar and two Tesla Powerwall batteries through Sunrun, and my recent experience with Sunrun's customer service was extremely disappointing. On August 3, 2026, approximately half of my house lost power, including critical areas of my kitchen. I called Sunrun and explained that I had no power to essential kitchen appliances, that food in my refrigerator could spoil, and that I could be left unable to prepare meals in my home. I was repeatedly told that it could be five days before someone would even call me back. I told them that was unacceptable and asked to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor assured me that my situation would be made a top priority, that I would be put at the top of the list, and that someone would call me within 24 hours. Fortunately, I was able to resolve the immediate power problem myself. I waited for Sunrun to call so I could tell them the problem had been resolved. They never called. Today is August 19 — 16 days later — and I still have not received the promised call. What concerns me most is this: What would have happened if I hadn't been able to fix the problem myself? Would I really have been left without power to a substantial portion of my home for days while waiting for someone from Sunrun just to call me? I make my monthly payments to Sunrun, and I expect reasonable support when something goes wrong with the system. Installing solar and batteries is only part of the service. What happens when your system goes down and you actually need help matters just as much. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Sunrun's customer service. If you are considering Sunrun, I strongly recommend that you ask exactly what kind of response time and support you can expect when your system has a serious problem. Please note, I do not know the information of my system so I just put random numbers in so I could complete this review.

Mr. Pinkston my SunRun P.O.C and Sales Representative
Mr. Raymond Pinkston, This SunRun Representative is an amazing professional his mannerism and knowledge of the SunRun system from building your Solar Panels, Tesla Battery, any apps needed was of the utmost. Mr. Pinkston, also did follow-ups once the installation team arrived to install the system. Which for me a Retired Military individual/ Retired Educator displayed the optimum level of respect, trust, and confidence. I was so impressed by this young man. That, I gave him three of my family members contact information as potential customers. He contracted all three their installation's are all complete with one producing fro SunRun at the present time. Note to SunRun Operations/ Administration Staff. Mr. Pinkston is not just the typical person to continue to do door to door. He has very high skill set's and not to mention his approach, attitude, and professionalism reflects the optimum skill set for supervisory/ office position. I have spoken with numerous Solar representative's over the years. I would like to share with you what caught my attention and why I joined SunRun. You see from the day meeting Mr. Pinkston he was able to deliver a very strong message of believing in SunRun along with his knowledge backing the company. SFC (R),Curtis L. Curry US Army Airborne

Defective product from a Company that ignores warranties
Do not buy a Sunrun Solar system. My system is five years old. It stopped functioning over five months ago. Sunrun was not monitoring it, despite their contractual obligation to do so. They never notified me that it stopped working. Their customer service is abysmal. The "live chat" is barely staffed, and the phone lines will leave you on hold for annoyingly long waits. Each time you call, they claim that they are "experiencing unusually high call volume." When you talk to an agent, they will misrepresent the situation. They are now pushing homeowners into a $79 a year "monitoring fee," even though my original agreement said that Sunrun would monitor the system without a fee. Now, they want $700 for a "System Performance Inspection," which they claim is not covered by my warranty. I think of my Sunrun Solar System as a waste of money. It doesn’t work, has not worked for a long time, and will not work unless I throw more money at a company that is ignoring their contractual obligations. In my experience, Sunrun sells a defective product, and the company does not honor their warranty.

cancellation of transaction
Signed the contract on 8/8/2026. Due to major health issues needed to cancel. I text Jesse Adan, our salesperson, on Thursday 8/16/26 and he text me the next morning to say he had cancelled the contract, and he was praying for me. I called the number on the contract to make sure it was cancelled and was told it had been cancelled that morning, gave me a case number in case if questions. A company that has installed over a million systems will have complaints because usually only people who have a problem will wright reviews. As a satisfied customer, I suggest you make Sunrun one of your estimates for solar power. I highly recommend Jesse Adan as a knowledgeable person who answers all questions and takes his time with a customer.

Bad Sales Rep./Shady Customer Service
Summary: Sales persons are either deceptive or unintelligent. Customer service support is shady. They do not care about the customer whatsoever after you sign your contract. We originally had a decent representative who set us up with a reasonable contract to meet our needs at the time. We purchased an electric car and the following year found ourselves with a bill. So through Sunrun we worked with a door to door rep who sold us on a few more panels and a couple battery systems. Throughout the negotiation I repeatedly asked for confirmation that the price I was being quoted was an updated bill replacing my old bill and not an additional bill. I was reassured it was. Almost a year later we are now being billed twice. Once for the original contract and once for the new. When calling to work this out we were met with customer service who referred us to our two open accounts, focused on confirming whether or not this verbal negotiation was documented, and at no time offered to take any steps towards righting this miscommunication. Now upon trying to retrieve contract documents through customer service we were cut off from customer service and all our documents were scrubbed from our account making them no longer attainable.

Shady and unresponsive
Initial interactions with the Sunrun rep were great—attentive, professional, and quoting us an estimated 27¢/kWh PPA rate. During the site survey, we were told our existing subpanel (installed for an EV charger) was sufficient and we wouldn't need a main panel replacement. A month later, the contract arrived with a jacked-up rate of 32¢/kWh. When questioned, they claimed we needed a new main panel and roof repairs. When we asked for the official Statement of Work to verify these new requirements, communication completely stopped and they ghosted us. Proceed with caution.

When a Sunrun sales representative came to my door, I explicitly informed him that we had just moved in and were planning major electrical upgrades. I told him we would be installing a central air conditioning system, water pumps, and upgrading our electrical panel from 110 amp to 220 amp to handle a significantly higher power load. Despite this clear information, the representative completely disregarded my warnings and based his calculations exclusively on old Eversource invoices from before the renovations. Because of his poor estimation, the number of solar panels installed is entirely inadequate for our actual energy usage. We were promised that our Eversource electricity bill would drop to zero and that we would only have to pay a single monthly bill for the solar panels. Instead, because of the representative's negligence and miscalculation, I am now stuck paying two separate bills every month: one to Eversource and another to Sunrun. When I tried to resolve this issue, Sunrun’s customer service was appalling: I called roughly 15 times, enduring hours of hold time with zero helpful solutions. Representatives repeatedly brushed me off, telling me to wait six months or an entire year for new readings. Finally, a Sunrun manager told me bluntly that nothing could be done, adding that if I wanted to cancel the contract, I would be forced to pay off the full cost of the panels immediately. In short, their attitude was dismissive and disrespectful. Sunrun locked me into a binding contract based on a flawed, deceptive sales pitch and refuses to take accountability for their mistake. Do not fall for their promises—save yourself the financial stress and avoid Sunrun completely.

Kinda disappointed
Initial contact was great. Fast contact, prompt installation, really good staff for installation. PG&E held up the approval, so we got, essentially, 6 months of very low cost power. That was terrific. However, once approved and running under Sunrun, two of our three batteries quit and had to be replaced, just six weeks after approval. Now, in August, all three batteries have quit! And on the weekend, when I couldn't reach anyone at Sunrun. They are available on Saturday until 4:00, but the system quit after 4:00 pm. The batteries just started making a louder noise than usual and started discharging to the grid. In a half-hour they had completely drained, according to the app. Actually, the Tesla app showed the discharge and shutdown. For the entire weekend and Monday, until I called Sunrun, their app showed the batteries as fine and system normal, which it wasn’t. On Tuesday, I was sent an email and link to make an appointment. The link connection said no appointments for more than 90 days. I called and the person I got gave me an appointment for two days later. There is no one local to call and all the local people who were there for the install are not reachable. Support is either a very inefficient chat or a phone call to and overseas call center. This is not an acceptable support system. Sunrun owns the equipment and needs to maintain it. They charge substantially for their services and abandon the customer once installed. To have two equipment failures within 3 months and only 6 months after installation is unacceptable, poor business and not a great way to increase business. I was a big supporter of Sunrun, but not now.

Sunrun falls short
Was sold on a system from a sales rep that coincidentally is no longer with sunrun to generate over 100% to ensure the off season bills would be covered, for loss of energy produced thru aging panels , and to be able to gift credits . In reality I was sold a system that only generates 88% leaving me with a utility bill in off season and obviously nothing to credit . Was told I could add panels if need be or if I outgrew my system from sales rep at the time . Tried customer service got nothing resolved . Was in contact with sunruns senior expert Dalton Clarke for weeks tryn to address my issue and the only response I received was the contract was valid . Totally dismissing the fact I was misled by their sales rep. In my opinion and thru my experience with sunrun I would stay far away !

I have had my solar system installed 5 months and have made 2 payments. I developed a leak over my kitchen light that I did not have before the installation. Sunrun states in their FAQ that they will advise you if you need a new roof and in my case, I do. They will not assist me with paying for the panel removals during the new roof installation and that is a $5,000.00 cost incurred to me. I do not recommend this company.

Although I needed to cancel the contract that I never should have signed I still want to praise their customer service when I called to cancel within the 5 days and to also praise the two gentlemen who came to the house to talk about solar. They were polite, professional, and so very patient. Hats off to Tony and Preston. It is no fault of yours that I had to change my mind.

System down for four weeks
My system has not been producing since 7/11. Sunrun never notified me it was down. Today 7/24 I just happened to check out the app and saw it’s been down since 7/11. I contacted them, the first available service appointment available is 8/18. Five weeks for them to come and fix it. Who knows how long it would have been down if I didn’t check the app. Pathetic.

Bad Customer Service
My Solar has been out for 1 week now and have been trying to schedule a service call for the past 3 days. Each day I am told that I need to wait 3 days to get scheduled, it's now 7 days and still waiting! Called this morning and spoke to a supervisor by the name of Humberto, call was disconnected and he never bothered to call me back! When I called back there was no record of this person speaking to me, I am beyond frustrated with this company, the lack of communication and customer service is horrible. If you are looking to get Solar don't go with Sunrun save yourself the hassle. This is how they treat customers who pay $50,000 for a system, it's only about the money for them.

Telsa Battery Falsehoods
Initially, I thought Sunrun was a good option vs FPL (Florida Power & Light). Shortly into my lease, I now see the many issues. There was such a push for a Tesla battery. The battery is a complete waste. It charges so and only lasts through the night if you barely run anything. If you run your AC (even at 82), the battery is drained by 1am and you're back on the grid. The cost benefit is horrible. I've very unpleased with my purchase. Would love to get out of it.

I was told one price by the sales rep and now trying to bill me for more. The job has taken 2 years to install and still not finished and now bills are coming. Paying more then i was with edison. Wish i would have never done this at all. Very very disappointed in the process and installation and customer service. I already told them to remove this crap and put a new roof and repaint my house. Im over this. Still need one more inspection with the county due to the fact the installators cut corners.

Not sure what's happened to this company (but it's not good)
We're 14 years into a 20 year lease, and the first 13 years were great. The past year has been a disaster. Essentially, the system and panels need to be replaced, and their output is completely inconsistent (and at times, non-existent). Sunrun's communication and customer service, which previously when things were working and seemed solid, have been lacking to say the least. Their customer chat and phone employees consistently say everything is working great... despite our system breaking down 5 times since October and needing to have technicians come each time. Finding someone to discuss replacing the panels and compensating us for producing less than 95% of its expected output (per the contract) has also been impossible: unreturned calls, unanswered emails, etc. Really disappointing from a company we've trusted until the past year.

I have had a pre paid solar system for 14 years. In that time had an inverter replaced, optimizer and wifi card replaced. Each time it took months and constant calls to sunrun as well as complaints to the BBB and state contractors license board. Currently the wifi on inverter went out. Contact with solar edge who manufactures inverter stated it was a hardware issue with wifi card which needed to be replaced. In my case, contract states sunrun is responsible for repairs and should I have outside company repair system they would void any future problems. According to sunrun non customer service, the system is producing as designed and will not repair communication problem. They did however send me a document stating if I agreed to pay $600, they would send out a tech to diagnose the system. Sunrun is the worse company I have ever delt with. Please, if anyone is considering contracting with this company, think again.

For the fourth time Sunrun was a no show for a service appointment. This was their appointment they made to evaluate the performance of the system. Waited 5 hours for them to show up and nothing. I have a billing system that is dependent on paper billing. I do not use apps or emails to pay. I have my bills laid out in the order they are due. So this third rate company sends me the bill a week after it’s due. Now they are going to charge me for a paper billing system. I used Vivant and these jerks bought them out. I called but no answer. I am trying to not to use explicit language but these people are trash and I won’t recommend to anyone. Unless I don’t like you, then this company is great. For everyone else, don’t use them. Forget them. Save your time and money.

Don't do it !!!!!!!!
Risk of Damage to your home. I had a new roof put on the main part of my home and was charged production when the panels were not on the roof. I had to fight for credits, but did finally get them. Do not let them put panels ona flat roof. Weight, brackets are not on the roof trusses completely. Lots of people to answer the phone but field work is not good. Excuses. I had a leak around window and asked the panels be removed. They took 60 days. Excuse was they needed a permit. I personally check with the county permit office and no permit was applied for. After numerous calls and continued damage they removed panels 60 days later without a permit and extensive interior damage during a rainy period. Damage to bedroom, bathroom, den walls and ceiling. I had to repair at my cost. The original leak around the window was caused by a tennis ball stuck in downspout. My complaint is it took 60 days to remove panels Permit excuse or not? The panels were recently reinstalled over my garage to avoid serious damage if water leak occured again. The panels were placed back dirty and it appears the capacitar, not sure if that is correct spelling, is not working. Reinstall done without a permit. Second Tier Sub stated permit not necessary. Again, I checked with permit office this week and one as well as electrical permit required. I have had several service appts scheduled over the months and waited at home only to have no one show and find out it was cancelled. They do not call. Not everyone lives by their laptop. They use subs and then the subs use tier subs. I feel like I spend more time contacting and waitying for Sun Run then they are worth. They have a few good reviews and they are the lucky ones. I suppose it depends on who does the field work or how important they feel you are. Not efficient as a company.

"Production Problems Returned After Multiple Repairs"
I am a Sunrun customer in Puerto Rico, with a system installed by Freedom Forever and using SolarEdge equipment. Unfortunately, my experience has been extremely frustrating. Less than two years after installation, I experienced major production issues that required multiple service visits over several months. The problem was ultimately resolved only after SolarEdge engineers became directly involved in the troubleshooting process. For a few months the system appeared to operate correctly, but now I am once again experiencing production issues. According to the SolarEdge monitoring platform, several panels are showing little to no production, and overall system output has dropped significantly. What concerns me most is that I recently opened a service ticket, and after a remote review I was informed by email that the system was operating properly. However, the monitoring data clearly shows multiple panels producing either zero or only a few watt-hours while neighboring panels are producing normally. As a customer in Puerto Rico, where electricity costs are high and reliable backup power is extremely important during hurricane season, this situation is very disappointing. I invested in solar energy to gain peace of mind and energy security, not to repeatedly deal with unresolved production problems. I am currently waiting for Sunrun to properly investigate the issue and schedule a field technician. I hope this matter is resolved quickly, but based on my experience so far, communication and proactive follow-up have been major challenges.

The Petaluma office answered my questions and the panels are working well. Scheduling took a little time but the crew communicated on install day.
