Warning about Sunrun Solar Company
My Sunrun system was installed in October 2025. It has now been three to four months of back-and-forth correspondence, and my core concerns remain unresolved. At present, I am paying two bills simultaneously: • A fixed monthly payment to Sunrun, which does not decrease regardless of usage • A utility bill, which also does not meaningfully reduce even when my electricity usage is low This outcome directly contradicts how the system was sold to me. Using Sunrun’s own design estimates: • Estimated annual production: 11,230 kWh • Estimated annual usage: 13,622 kWh • Estimated offset: 83% By design, I must still purchase approximately 3,500 kWh per year from the utility. This makes representations of a total bill “cap” mathematically impossible. During the sales process, I was explicitly told: • My effective electricity cost would be approximately $0.10/kWh • Excess energy would be sold back to the grid if my usage was low • My total monthly bill would be capped at approximately $210 These representations do not align with: • The written contract • The actual system design • My real billing experience Even under conservative assumptions, dividing a typical annual fixed Sunrun payment by 11,230 kWh results in an effective cost far higher than $0.10/kWh, with no mathematical path to that figure. In addition, the 2.99% annual escalation significantly changes the long-term economics of the agreement, eventually increasing my fixed payment toward $400–$450 per month, while utility costs remain uncapped and savings are not guaranteed. This impact was not clearly disclosed at the time of sale. Further, when my electricity usage is low (including periods when I am away), my Sunrun payment remains unchanged, and excess production does not meaningfully offset my utility bill. This contradicts the explanation that lower usage would financially benefit me.

Very horrible experience, I sincerely felt taken advantage of. Over promising and under delivering. I was promised an incentive after is signed up, two months later, nothing. I am to put in my reps words, bothersome, I hound him for what was promised to me I will make sure that everyone know what type of company you are, I have been asking for a supervisor for two weeks for a call back and agin, nothing. I will be escalating this to the bbb and other rating agencies I can contact, this is overwhelming and highly disappointing.

1 Star – Misleading Sales & Terrible Customer Service
I had a very disappointing experience with Sunrun, and I would strongly advise others to proceed with extreme caution. The sales representative, Derrick, explicitly told me that my electric bill would be cancelled once I went with Sunrun. That was not true. My electric bill did not get cancelled, and I was left dealing with unexpected costs that were never clearly explained upfront. On top of that, Sydney from Sunrun never responded to my messages. No follow-ups, no explanations, and no effort to provide basic information or resolve concerns. The lack of communication and accountability is unacceptable. What makes this worse is that the company seems more focused on locking customers into long-term contracts (around 25%) than being honest and transparent. I would much rather work with a company that tells the truth than one that relies on misleading claims to close deals. To make matters even more confusing, I received conflicting information from different reps. One representative told me that my bill would show exactly how much energy my home is consuming, while others failed to explain usage clearly at all. There was no clear breakdown of energy consumption, which is critical when making a decision like this. Overall, this experience felt misleading and unprofessional. Between the false promises, poor communication, and lack of transparency, this company has been the absolute worst to deal with. I would not recommend Sunrun to anyone looking for honest solar solutions.

Horrible sales experience! The guy lied right to our faces and used typical sales tactics to sit down at the table for longer! I basically had to shew him out. He wasn’t up front! Could have saved 45 minutes if he was actually solid sales guy, typical bullshitter kinda guy.

Worst Solar Company Ever
I have been waiting over 7 months for Sunrun to come out and fix the problem with my system. Now, I am being double charged from Sunrun and Duke because the system is not producing the amount that was originally promised. Customer service is horrible! Everybody blames each other, and nothing ever gets resolved. I am still waiting for a supposed escalated ticket from upper management to address the ineffectiveness of our system. I would NOT recommend this company at all!!!

Horrible Experience
Sunrun subcontracted Bright Planet Solar to do installation on my roof. During installation, they had to move panels twice because they were not up to code with the town. They left my roof with patches of metal sheets and white plaster or some form of sealant. Installation was horrible, they did not seal the screws correctly, leaving holes and leaks into my home. I had multiple contractors come to see the roof and all told me what a horrible job they did, they left shingles lifted, which then a squirrel tried living in my ceiling, they made me pay to remove the solar panel as they stated it was not their fault. After I got an attorney was when they finally called me wanting to do right. Now it has been close to 2 years, their attorney stopped answering us about a year ago and my roof still leaks. I don't recommend Sunrun or affiliates.

If you see or hear Sunrun - RUN as fast as you can! ZERO STARS!!
Sunrun is a horrible business as you can see from all the horrible reviews here & elsewhere. Heck, there's a whole FB page on this exact topic. Sunrun lies & uses high pressured tactics to get you to sign. In fact, I was sexually harassed by my sales guy. It was so uncomfortable - but I'd already signed their dishonest contract - that didn't match any of the things they told me verbally. I was told - as were 2 co-workers - that if I EVER wanted the leased solar off my house all I had to do was pay $500 & they'd come get them. They knew I was worried about leased solar - for all the reasons spelled out here. Google Sunrun - wish I had. They installed them not to code & removed my fuse box & circuit breaker - putting my family in danger. I have witnesses & texts proving Sunrun lied to me, telling me the contract is void - ok - come get them - no one will talk to me & they have ignored all attempts to resolve this outside the court room. If anyone has a good Texas lawyer, please email me at kapualohas@gmail.com. Maybe if we ban together we can close this shady business down. Sunrun - please don't try to make it sound like you want to resolve any of the horrible reviews listed here - no one believes it & if they do? Google Sunrun before signing ANYTHING, heck before speaking to them & having them ask if you'd be interested in a FWB situation! WTH!

Worst Solar Company Ever!
Worst solar company ever! I've purchased multiple solar systems and they are the absolute worst. I had to use them with the purchase of a new home. They were way more expensive than others. The products they used were fine but their service is horrible. I received an email that my system was underperforming. They found my system wasn't communicating. I called their service department and they told me I didn't have a warranty. I had to go through three tiers of customer service and send them my contract for them to agree that I have a warranty. They said I had to sign an agreement to pay in the case that it was caused by physical damage but hat otherwise it would be covered by warranty. They got it communicating. Sent me a bill for $580 and refuse to acknowledge my warranty. I'm disputing it with BBB. They have multiple class action law suites against them. Stay away from them if you want someone that stands by their work.

Poor communication and representation
At first I thought my rep was great, however, now I realize I was lied to and given false promises. I was told that I would receive 6 months free service, lie! When the system was finally activated, we went into contact in September and it activated in April I did receive some free months but that was because they ran so late and I asked one of the installers how they could compensate me for running so behind. I never got the 6-months free promotion and now in 2026 after talking to multiple representatives they say they are going to send me a gift card but I have not received it and I keep calling them. When I called again today they said there was some hold on my account which sounded like another lie to me. In 2025 after activation, I reached out via e-mail to 4 people that helped before the system was activated and not one person responded. I also called and left messages for two of those people and never heard back. If you want to be lied to and treated like shit, sign up with Sunrun. One of the worst experiences I have had with a major company.
