SunKey Energy

Avoid this company. They installed a solar array on my house. Two years in, the gateway failed (interacts with wifi to report solar panel functionality). I've been trying to get Sunkey out to take a look at it for three months now, with little/no communication, interactions with shady contractors, and just a general disregard for the issues. So far I've interacted with Nick, Jim, and Nate and they all talk like they're happy to help and then completely drop off the map and don't respond to emails or phone calls. Go with a more reputable company, or be prepared to service your system yourself.

Scammer alert!

This is the worst solar company I have ever dealt with. They refuse to honor their warranties. They cancel service without notifying you. They also don’t use the money you give them to pay for your equipment. A lien was placed on my house for $16,000 because they didn’t pay for my equipment and the company that provided it to them wanted their money. I had to hire an attorney to get the lien off my house and stop a lawsuit. Do not use this company. Do not listen to their sales people because they are not telling you the truth they will cost you nothing but grief.

I might actually give them 3.5 stars. I had a very mixed experience with SunKey. They were 4 months late installing my system. OTOH, they did pay my electric bill in the interim, which was more than fair. During the installation process, they often did not show up on time or at all on scheduled days, causing me to wait around all day for a no-show - or they would show up at 4:30 pm and work for half an hour. The critter guard had to be redone a couple of times due to large gaps in the coverage. They broke 7 concrete roof tiles during the installation, which they did eventually replace, although it took two appointments to get done. I got a good system in the end, but it was not optimized for the billing structure of IREA, which charges rooftop solar users for peak power usage. It should have had some east and west-facing panels to mitigate peak loads, especially in the summer afternoons, instead of only south-facing panels which maximized total production. This is not entirely their fault because the algorithm IREA uses to charge rooftop solar users is intentionally complex and it requires considerable analysis to determine how to minimize the demand charges. I did not find SunKey to be very responsive to my calls and emails once the contract was signed. It took a month for them to respond when one of my micro-controllers went bad. OTOH, they did replace it under warranty once they finally responded. Part of the problem may have been their scheduler who has been replaced. Since then, they have been more responsive. Most recently, I had a problem with the enlighten display matching the actual panel outputs and did get a quick response. They did respond fairly quickly when I reported a suspected roof leak (not their fault) and when an electrical problem surfaced in the main panel after the worked on it (only partly their fault, but I had to get another electrician to fix it). Other neighbors have been satisfied with their service, especially lately, so I cannot say they are bad, just could have been better. Everything works fine, but it did take a few iterations to get it right.

We had Sunkey install our solar panels two years and we could not be more happy. Sunkey was easy to work with and continues to be very attentive in their monitoring of our system. We highly recommend them.

We have worked with SunKey Energy for the last 4 1/2 years and have been extremely pleased with their service and their product. We had an issue on a solar panel and never even knew about it until they came over to fix it when it popped up as a problem on their system. Excellent Customer Service!!!

Sunkey was the 9th solar company that my wife and I consulted with since 2012. The 2 gentlemen I spoke with were Chad and Jesse, both were knowledgeable, personable, and honest about there company and the entire solar industry. Not only were there qualifications in order but they offered very competitive pricing. The entire process from consultation, to installation, to turning the system on went flawless. I definitely would recommend this company to anyone in the market for going solar!
