Poulin Solar Pro

I contracted this company because of their high reviews but after completing a project with them, I'm not sure how they got those reviews. After talking to some other companies first, I decided to use SolarPro for my project. We signed a contract that included electric panel upgrade and the project was slated to complete in four months. The first two months, I barely received any communications from them. When I sent them emails asking about status, it would take a week or even sometimes they don't respond. The only bright spot is Kara in customer service, when you bypass everyone else and contact her, she was very helpful. After two months and the paper work started moving, I got a notice that my panel upgrade will cost an additional $1500 even though we had it in the contract. I tried contacting the Paulin brothers who are the owners and they did not even make a courtesy reply, nothing different than other times trying to contact the project manager. I was then told that I either pay the extra fee or the project would not continue. It was a tough choice to stay with them but since we already wasted 2 months, I didn't want to restart the process all over with another company. The project continued to move slow which I understand is due to applications with PNM and the city so they don't have much control. Once install happened, that was quick and professional with no issues. The project was finished 6 month after start instead of the original 4 months promised. Part of the rebate process with the NM state, SolarPro had to send me forms to complete. It took them 2 months from end of my project to send me the forms. By the time they did and I turned that into the state, the state ran out of money for 2022 projects which I was never told it was a possibility otherwise I would have pushed the completion into 2023. It seemed something very basic they should know. So on top of the $1500 additional for the panel, I was out 10% of the project cost since NM rebates were not possible. So if you ever decide to use these guys, and I wouldn't understand why, make sure you start your project really early or really late in the year otherwise you can count on not getting NM rebates. Overall, I'm happy with my system and I would get it again but there's no way I would use these guys or recommend them to anyone.

The experience from beginning to end was seamless! We had one panel. Not working on day one and they noticed it before we did, and came out immediately to get it up and running. Excellent experience all around

Starting from the meeting and design of our system, everything went quickly and smooth all the way to installation. Solar Pro was very informative with every step of the process. Each step was professionally addressed by the expert that handled that task. When it came down to installation, Ron and his crew were very courteous and dedicated to making sure all areas of the installation were meticulously done. PNM was running behind on inspection and meter installation (due to short staff, normal for this economy). Still was within a few days after installation completed. PNM performed their inspection and within another week, we had our meter installed. We've been informed that all the paperwork necessary for state rebate will be sent out to us shortly. It helps that Poulin Solar Pro has a package with instructions put together for the rebate. Thanks again guys for your professionalism and expedience on our install.

Everything was smooth and painless with Poulin. The salesman Dave was informative and answered all our questions, and he was not pushy. They took care of all the permits and paperwork with the utility company, and the physical installation only took one day.

Poulin SolarPro is a first-rate, quality organization. They did everything they said they would do. The installation was smooth and minimally disruptive. They handled all of the permitting and paperwork. My installation was more difficult than most because of the location: Los Alamos. But the Poulin staff took this in stride and remained cheerful. I am an electrical engineer, so I could understand much of the system design. It was a quality design using quality parts. The sales experience was excellent, and was done by Mr. Poulin himself. He was understated and truthful. He did not try to sell me more than I needed, indeed, I ended up increasing the size of the system from his original estimate.

Poulin Solar Pro was very easy to work with, from the first meeting of possibility, design, execution of work and final follow through. We highly recommend them as they made it very easy. You may be able to find a 'slightly' cheaper company but Poulin Solar Pro has the best warranty and gets you running right away once the install is done (the pre-approvals are at the mercy of the city and their time line, not something Poulin Solar has control of. Once the approvals are done they get on a schedule right away, the install is quick and you are up and running in less than two weeks (time is at the mercy of PNM installing the 2nd meter which happened about a week after Electrical and Panel install inspections by the city). We are now enjoying solar power and will see it's benefits right away! Very professional staff and team - a very well run one!!! The install is first rate from solar arrays to all the electrical (which we needed extra due to age of house).

Starting with the initial sales contact by David, Solar Pro outclassed the three other competitors for my solar project. The important factors in choosing Poulin Remodeling were they are local and have maintained a high reputation for the many years they have done business in Albuquerque.

We did a lot of research in figuring out if we wanted to go solar and then finding a company to go with. We initially signed up with a company through Costco but got cold feet when digging into the company that they use to provide and install solar, that company is also based in another state. We had Steve from Solar Pro come over to our house and show us what they offer and it ended up being lower cost, better financing plus other perks than the Costco option AND Poulin Solar Pro is local (great for any follow-up/issues), which gave us a bit more comfort. We ended up going with at 33 panel LG panel, 10KW system (which arguably is one of the best panels). Ron and his install team were great….were very careful and professional during the install, cleaned up after themselves and even ensured the color of the conduit matched our stucco. They took care of all the permitting and inspections required. We also received everything that was promised by Steve during his initial consultation (he even added an additional rebate that come out after we started the process). My plumber had gone with the company that we initially were going with (through Costco) and he said they made a lot of promises that they did not keep. We did not experience this with Poulin Solar Pro. We did experience some concerns with some shading on some of our solar panels and Steve and Ron came through with a great solution. I’m not sure if you would get this type of service with an out of state company.

All the workers were great, on time, cleaned up after themselves and did a great job. They even replaced screws missing from my electrical panel that the builder had neglected to put it.

We got bids from four local companies and after review of the proposals and in-person presentation with Steve @ SolarPro decided to go with a 4KW system he proposed. The whole process was facilitated by Poulan at every step, went better than I expected, despite delays by state inspectors and PNM. As part of our duly diligent research into going solar, we contacted six companies, including Poulin Solar Pro of Albuquerque. Steve came out to the house went through the process, answered all of our questions, and designed a cost effective solar system for our home. The installation of the solar system was done by a great team of electricians and technicians and after receipt of the green tag and meter placement by PNM, we are making our own electricity and could not be happier. After seeking quotes from 5 companies, I was sold by the knowledge and expertise offered by Poulin. I was made aware of costs that were never discussed from other companies, given panel options and all questions were answered without hesitation. Follow up has been awesome. Right on schedule inspections and roof evaluation happened. I was given instructions from Brian on what to expect next (PNM inspection and meter install) - and they were gone with zero mess. After duly diligent research, I contacted a well-known, highly reviewed Poulin Solar Pro in Albuquerque. Dave Thomas’s knowledge and expertise of residential solar power installations gave me immediate confidence that this was the company for my installation. My confidence in Dave and Poulin was soon put the test when I asked Dave to reconfigure the design proposal to balance the power production capacity with my budget and expectations. Not only did he do this quickly but also included newly-released upgraded technology. After installation—done by an amazing team of electricians and technicians (shout out to Ron Phelps)—and after green tag day and meter placement by PNM, my system is percolating away at about 93% of (4.69kW) capacity. Although the SolarEdge App needs some fine tuning to provide just one more data point for its valued consumer—power consumption—this needs to be done in coordination with the local utility company who is effortlessly collecting that data already. Maybe some day soon that data will be consolidated to give the customer an a net power metric the current app teases to offer (but at an exorbitant upcharge). Bottom line of this review: Be a smart consumer and thoroughly research residential solar power systems. Don’t accept sales promotions from industrial installation companies because residential systems ARE significantly different. Along similar lines, find a local company. Piece of mind is priceless, and chances are that local companies will be just as competitive as remotely based companies regardless of what they say. Residential solar power plants is complicated technology, so having a company like Poulin to assemble a team of subcontractors who are expert in their respective specialty is critical. Out-of-state companies just can’t match the level of coordination a locally based company can. Finally, ask questions, lots of them. You’ll soon discover the companies and the personnel who have great solutions because they’re patient answering your questions!

We had already come to the decision that we wanted to go solar before reaching out to Poulin Solar Pro. The numbers just made sense and it doesn't hurt to go green as well. In the Albuquerque area, there are a myriad of companies willing to sell you solar but by just looking for a couple attributes (an A rating from the BBB and a company that has lasted at least 10 years), most of the companies were eliminated. After doing some research regarding customer reviews on various sites, we narrowed it down to the "Top 5" - which included Poulin. We spoke with each company (whether via e-mail, phone or in-person consultation). In all honesty, each of the companies would have probably been fine, but Poulin stood out to us for a variety of reasons. Steve came to see us right away and sat down to give us an in-depth explanation of what we were looking at. He made sure to make it easy to understand as well as willing to go into detail with each question asked. The price was fair and the install went very smoothly with Ron and his team. Once the decision was made to go with them, each subsequent step was easier and easier. We have a tile roof and they made sure to have a plan to safely and efficiently do the install - another plus. We have only had our solar up-and-running for a few days at this point so we don't have any long-term feedback to provide but everything was great and we don't expect to run into any problems. The long-term warranty, great customer service, and frequent communication put our mind at ease and we feel comfortable with our choice and recommending them to anyone else.

We chose Poulin Solar Pro fprimarily because they offered the system components we were looking for at a very competitive price. Additionally they convinced us of their ex[erise and experience in installing residential photovoltaic systems in our area.

I'm now 5 weeks into my new solar panels. It is, of course, way too early to tell anything long term about the performance of the system. But, I have enough to make an initial impression. First, my dealings with Poulin. I thought things went well. Lots of what happened was behind the scenes with PNM and the City getting approvals, permits, and such. PNM probably took the longest. Once I had the green light, installation was done quickly, though I did have one glitch. I needed to upgrade my service panel, and approval from PNM couldn't occur until the PV plan was approved. So that delayed the installation a week, or so. Ron was my contact throughout the pre-install process and communication was very good. His team came out at 7am and installed the system in just over half a day, including the new service panel. The install was very tidy. I did end up with some extra conduit outside the house to the roof (to be expected), but also along the exterior wall to get to a water ground, and dirt ground. Then it was wait, wait, wait on PNM. I hated having a system on my roof doing nothing. My notes say it was 10 days from install until the meter set. The fella from PNM that came out was very professional, and we did have a nice chat about the system. The panels are performing well and making more than I need. That was by design. I plan to upgrade my swamp cooler to AC in the next year. Poulin included some extra in the design, but after running numbers I don't think it's going to be enough, by a long shot. Fortunately, I can add another 5 panels to the inverter if necessary. One thing I like is the ability to see how the system is doing online. While it isn't "live" it does update every 4 hours. I was initially told the monitoring would be done over my wifi, but that changed to a cellular system. Details: 10x 305W panels. Total system power 3kW. SolarEdge Inverter with optimizers on each panel. While I have a 3kW system, the most it has dependably made is 2.6kW at noon on a sunny day. I'm hoping that improves in the winter when the panels won't be so hot.

Steve Poulin, co-owner of Poulin Solar Pro, came out to our house and spent a couple of hours with us, calculating how many solar panels we would need for our lifestyle and energy usage. He also looked at a year’s worth of electric bills to help us calculate how much money we would save with solar (besides the environmental benefits) and estimated how much we’d earn for our tax return with the solar upgrade which served as a rebate. The cost for our solar panels was reasonable, and his crew helped us understand the new electric box we needed to install due to the age of our original box (built in the 1950s). Steve helped us finance the cost of our panels, with a 0% interest for part of the cost for one year (which we paid off before the year was over) and a very reasonable loan with our local credit union at a very low interest rate of less than 4% for the remaining balance. Steve handled all of the loan paperwork. We never had to leave our house to address the set up or the financing for the project. At most we discussed the loan once over the phone. The project was completed on time and as promised. And we have an app on our phones that shows us how much each solar panel is producing. We have been living solar for a year now and are so happy with our choice.
