I looked for months and received several solar bids on our project. Petersen Dean was no where close to the cheapest option, yet they were not the most expensive option either. My home needed a panel upgrade and this is where the disaster began. My home is now blowing breakers at least four times a week and Petersen Dean claims that they have fixed the problem. I am holding the final payment of $18,659.56 until the problem is fixed. They sent a "technician" out four different times and problem persist. I bought this home five years ago and never ONCE blew a breaker. Petersen Dean tells me to tell my house cleaner not to run the vacuum and have the lights on at the same time.

Hi Richard
I have completed 2 months on my solar panels and love them. We were near the Bluecut Fire last month and I was a bit scared it was all going to go up in smoke literally but it didn't. We are producing more power than we are using another fear I had at possibly underestimating the panels needed. Every service person who came out was on time, pleasant and competent. The only down side is that it did take so long to from start to finish. I wish I wouldn't have dragged my feet for the first 2 months. Although the delays were usually not on the part of PD but they were still overwhelming. Its hard to understand why everyone isn't on board. My level pay plan with SCE was 515$ and now my mosaic payment I just made is 300$ with the potential in several years to have no payment at all. I know this letter sounds like a marketing tool I wish there was a way to attach my last sce bill. Richard Bruce signed us up so effortlessly, Amanda helped us through the process step by step. Our panels have worked with no issues.

We selected Petersen Dean after meeting with 4 other companies. It took a while to learn why Petersen Dean was the best option but do take advantage of the sales presentations to educate yourself.
One of my lessons learned is that no two solar system proposals will be alike and so I needed a formula to standardize the proposed solar system cost. I needed something like a price per pound. What I came up with was ... Price per Target kW = (Proposed Cost - Tax Credits - Coupons) * (Target kW / Proposed kW). In my case, i targeted a 7.15 kW system because I got proposals from 7.15 kW - 10.08 kW. Using the 7.15 kW as a standard, I was able to eliminate 2 that were just too expensive as the standardized prices varied from $18k to $26k.
The other three proposals varied in standardized prices from $18k to $20k but the financing ranged from 3% to 7%. Although the most expensive of the three, Petersen Dean sealed the deal with the best financing terms that no one else could meet.
Regarding the system components, Petersen Dean offered the best with SolarWorld and Enphase. I learned that most solar panels and accompanying components have really low failure rates. Yet I felt that I'd rather have a veteran roofing and solar company like Petersen Dean at my side when something did eventually fail instead of a newer Solar company that contracts to local installers. Also, I learned that Solar companies sometimes contract Petersen Dean to be their local installer.
Overall, my only gripe is that installing solar took 6 months from the sales visit on 9/9 to permission to operate on 3/4. But most of the waiting was due to the holidays and my HOA. Once we got the HOA written approval, it took only 1 month from financing on 2/5 to submit for permit on 2/9 to permit on 2/13 to installation on 2/23 to inspection on 2/29 and finally permission to operate on 3/4.
Finally, I'd like to say that everyone working for Petersen Dean has been very professional, very responsive, knowledgeable, and trustworthy.... read more

Rare find in construction industry

Having worked with a variety of construction contracting firms in the past few years as we move our WWII era home into the 21st century it was a very rare pleasure to work with the people at PetersenDean on our solar energy conversion project. From my first contact with Michael Karlberg (our sales rep) we were pleased with his patient and constructive help in finding the best solution for our home. No pressure ... just answers to every question and suggestions on how we could improve our knowledge of this new technology.
Once we determined to use PetersenDean we were offered help with every phase of our project from selection of product, financing, job creation, inspections and project completion. Or assigned project coordinator E'lenna Hernandez kept us completely informed throughout the design, approval, permitting, installation, and sign-off by inspectors and our utility without pestering us or requiring us to constantly call.
All of the technicians and installers were always friendly, always kept us informed about what they were doing and very efficient. After any construction our property was cleaned so you would never know the installers had been here. Jobs were completed as promised, quickly and safely.
The total job was completed is less time than I expected and PetersenDean made sure the project would get approved for permission to operate from both the inspectors and our utility. I just don't see other companies doing all of these things these days.... read more

Both used the same panels and inverters. Petersen-Dean was about 40% less ecpensive for the same configuration.
They provided a time schedule and an estimate for the inspection and agreement from SCE to turn on the system. The installation was done as scheduled. The city inspection was completed faster than expected. SCE approved the system faster than expected.
I monitor my system everyday. I am getting what I expected and am very happy with it. I would recommend Petersen-Dean as one of the companies if you are getting quotes.... read more

Seems like everyone is getting into the solar panel installation market. We chose PetersenDean Roofing and Solar because of a number of factors. But the primary reason was their reputation and being in the roofing and solar business for as long as they have. I did my research on Yelp and other search engine websites. They were not the cheapest. Nor were they the most expensive. The price point was higher than most, but I think "you get what you pay for" applies.
PetersenDean was on top of everything meaning they were prompt and courteous and took care of everything in every step of the pre-install, the install, to the post-installation process. They always kept us in the loop.
FYI...My electric bill was averaging around $170 per month before we got solar panels. Since we've gone solar six months ago, my electric bill is averaging less than $10 a month.
I highly recommend without reservation PetersenDean Roofing and Solar.... read more

Electricians did a great job installing inverter lines with siding lines so as to minimize their appearance. Everyone was punctual.
