Worst Decision of My Life

Choosing to install Encor has proven to be the worst decision of my life. Staggeringly so. To the point of being in tears and resulting in hours of lost sleep. The high pressure door-to-door sales roped me in with promises of completely eliminating my power bill. I signed up in August, the solar was installed in mid-September, and I failed the first inspection as when the county came out, nothing was hooked up (with no notification from Encor engineer). After weeks of not being able to get in touch with anyone, the ordered part came in and was installed. The headache didn’t end here though as once everything was set up to operate, I was unable to get anyone to come out to walk me through the set-up. I ended up calling the company who made the inverter/combiner box who helped me walk through my own setup by reading her 25 serial numbers from the panels. She was appalled that I couldn’t get anyone to come help me set things up. Altogether the process of getting it all up and running took over 4 months and I ended up having to pay my full power bill PLUS the cost of the solar panel payment. It only happened this quickly because I pushed the process by calling nearly twice a week and being on hold countless hours. The guy, Tyler, who signed me up did so and then essentially abandoned me to figure everything out on my own. He would only reply, “call my boss, Andrew” whom I reached out to on so many occasions and he never returned my calls or texts. After I was all set up and operational, I realized that my panels would only produce so many kilowatts and that the amount I was producing wouldn’t even be half of what I needed on the lowest usage months of the year. On average (with online research), around 25 panels will only produce about 1125ish kilowatt hours per month. With what Duke energy charges at 11.661 cents per kWh, this translates to about $131.19 in monthly savings – nowhere near the $274 a month solar panel payment. Now, I am stuck with 25 years of a $274/month solar payment (after government tax incentives) PLUS more than half of what my power bill previously was. When I signed up, I was told they would look at how much energy I’ve used over the last year and install enough panels to completely eliminate my power bill. I was told I could get the 30% Federal tax incentive plus an annual depreciation incentive to bring my monthly bill to $197. This is false. Apparently the depreciation incentive is only for commercial businesses so my payment will be $274. For 25 years. I was charged over $67000 to have solar installed in my home. Upon further research I realize I GROSSLY overpaid. I called about it all and was told “didn’t you read the fine print?” and there is no acknowledgment that I was completely taken advantage of. It was all a complete lie and a scam. This. Is. A. Nightmare. It has reeked havoc on my finances. I feel so dumb and heartbroken over all of this.
