We were your typical family, new to the suburbs, fairly naive about the entire solar thing but definitely conscious about the environment and willing to lighten our carbon footprint whenever possible. Having moved from Seattle, where, for whatever reason, solar panels aren't nearly as prevalent (assuming it's the tax breaks in NY vs WA - which is the #1 reason to get them in NY), we started researching companies almost a year to the day we moved here. <br /><br />Without getting into specifics, after filling out a general interest form on the internet and weeding through DOZENS of emails and robo-calls, we narrowed it down to about two or three companies. While there are pros and cons to each company, I would recommend having the salespeople speak to you in layman's terms, easing off on the acronyms and fancy industry specific terminology, which definitely gets confusing. <br /><br />Although initially we "signed" (I use the term loosely) with a larger, national brand (think solar cars), for us it ultimately came down to working with Jeff Homire and our desire to find smaller, local companies. There really was no substitution between a "live" salesperson versus working via Skype with a sales guy in California, at least for us. Jeff was knowledgeable, courteous and true to his word (I forgot about a refund; he did not) and we just got along great. <br /><br />So far, the panels look awesome, the website showing our info is great, and we're really looking forward to the tax break!
