We chose SunVena with the hope of doing something good — for the planet, for our home, and for our family’s long-term savings. We believed we were making a smart, sustainable investment that also strengthened our home's ability to function through major storms. But what was supposed to be empowering has turned into a source of constant stress. To the point we have no faith the system will function when needed, let alone function in general. The system was installed in late December, but didn’t get activated until early March — because they failed to file the right paperwork three times. We paid full electric bills for months, with no acknowledgment of the financial strain their mistakes caused by outlaying a large sum for the purchase, while continuing to pay high electric bills. Since then, we've had three major system failures in just over a year. The first dragged on for months as our system quietly underperformed without anyone noticing — including SunVena, because they don’t proactively monitor the systems they install. We found out only because we questioned why our bills hadn’t dropped as much as expected and even then had to fight to get escalated beyond the first level customer support team for a deeper look. By the time someone finally came out, they admitted it was due to their own poor workmanship. It was fixed and production shot way up. The second breakdown hit harder. Just two days after a hurricane, our expensive whole-home backup system — the one with two batteries we were told would protect us — failed completely. We were without power for six days, with no way to cook, store food, or stay comfortable. We threw out groceries. We spent money eating out. And SunVena offered nothing in return. The third failure was recent. We caught it quickly this time — again, not SunVena — and once more had to wait weeks for repairs. It turned out the inverter failed. More waiting. More downtime. They said they wanted to "make it right" and gave us two options: a check for lost production or two extra panels (with a catch — they wouldn’t increase our system’s output target, so they could avoid paying us more later when they assessed total output over a 2 year period post install). I asked, respectfully, for both — not as a handout, but as a reasonable request given all we’ve endured and not been compensated for. They said no. Then they withdrew all offers entirely when I wouldn’t promise to change my Google review. I’m writing this not out of anger, but out of honesty. If you’re a homeowner considering solar, know this: we didn’t expect perfection — but we did expect care, responsiveness, and integrity. What we got instead was indifference, broken promises, and an option to stay silent in exchange for compensation. Please learn from our experience. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone.
