Had received bids elsewhere which were unsuitable, one out of Knoxville sent up red flags, with immediate distrust/slimy...gave high bid, premium prices for install and equipment not up to my standards/requirements, and sales person was arrogant and high-pressure. Ian Huddleston with Greene Tech Renewable Energy was the exact opposite. First contact/meeting was impressed with knowledge, experience, presentation and bid/equipment to be obtained high quality, with excellent and professional bid for complete install. Performed solar audit on rooftop with proper software to evaluate and verify site suitability. Our install situation NOT typical...two 200 amp services were first updated to single 400 amp service meter/drop with two disconnects/service panels. Installation completed with high attention to detail, and thought given to final appearance and outcome. Ian's team's work is absolutely up to the high standards I hoped for and expected. There have been issues, but each one has been investigated, with contact made with SolarEdge support to ensure all is correct and to figure out how to rectify situation, and Ian has been responsive and out on site to make sure system performs as expected, despite the issues encountered. Even typical installs may have issues, ours being unique had unique problems that needed attention, and we have been extremely pleased with GTRE's desire to be sure we are happy with system, and they are happy with system, and that it is performing as it should be.

Having had a terrible experience with my initial "certified" installer who failed to complete the installation per contract and made several errors followed by a second installer who kept changing the start date for almost a year, I was fortunate to learn about LightWave from a friend who had used them several years ago. Other references were good. LightWave identified the errors by the prior installer, designed the resolutions, and completed the proper installation within their estimate despite a few surprises along the way and ON TIME. All individuals we dealt with from office staff to installation and commissioning were professional in every regard. I could not be happier with the result. Even the state electrical inspector and local power company representatives who were on site for commissioning volunteered very positive comments regarding the installation and readiness of all aspects of the system. An exceptional company in my experience that I highly recommend!

Let them into my home and it was a ride from day one….When the sales rep arrived at my home he offered a free estimate. (sounds good), but it required a roof inspection (sounds reasonable) so I agreed. But he was adamant that I sign “an authorization to inspect” on the spot. It was late and I really just wanted to start my night, but sure… (thinking it was a one page release). Nope… it was a full on engagement contract. **red flag #1**; I’m too tired to read this and, as I never sign without reading, it would have to wait - so I tell him to email it to me and I’ll loop back tomorrow. He didn’t like that answer, so he reiterated (multiple times) that it was nothing more than an authorization to inspect the roof and if I don’t sign it, he can’t schedule the inspection. **red flag #2**; I took another quick look at the multi-page engagement contract and said, “Then I thank you for your time, but I’m not signing something without reading it and I’m not reading it right now”… he persisted to the point I was near showing him the door (**red flag #3) when he decided to call his manager **red flag #4**; his manager essentially repeats the same thing over the phone, but added “you can cancel after the inspection if you decide to not move forward – no questions asked”. Now -- That’s some timeshare nonsense that I have zero interest in participating in.… **red flag #5**. I repeated my position but guess that my tone made the point, so he committed to send them via email. As agreed, we got the document via docusign but after reading it – as I expected – it was a lot more than an inspection authorization **red flag #6**. I had no intention of signing an engagement contract when I haven’t even received a site plan or a quote. Regardless, the inspection was done and we did get the site plan and then the proposal. We had a few questions, so some back and forth but at no time did anyone approve the project to move forward either verbally or in writing (at lease intentionally). A month later we get an email from SDG&E informing us that our application for interconnection has been received and it had Empire Solar’s (the would be installer) name on it. – what application? Who submitted an application? Sure wasn’t us. **red flag #7** at this point, there was zero chance Simple Energy or the installer (Empire Solar) were getting the deal and I knew the app would eventually die off without certain other steps that wouldn’t happen, so we simply moved on with the other providers. They looped back later so we told them we wouldn’t be moving forward with them – just to put it to bed cleanly. Two months later – we got a statement from a lending company informing us that we had a fully executed loan and that our first payment was coming due. A loan for a project that was never approved nor completed. Were getting it cleared up but i highly recommend that you stick to installers that have control of the process from start to finish to avoid the "not it!" conversation.

The reviews scores for the largest solar companies are far worse than those for local, family-owned solar installation companies.
The best solar companies meet the following criteria:
The solar industry is full of fly-by-night solar companies — both big and small — that open one year and are gone the next.
Solar panels last for 25-30 years, so you want an installer who will help you with any problems or system faults. For this to happen, your installer needs to be able to stay in business
Local solar companies, as a group, have the highest reviews score on our site and also have lower overheads than corporate installers, making them more likely to survive in the long term.

I used this company to have a basis for my solar panels on my new house. They did a great assessment of my usage, roof, and environment. They came to the house after numerous meetings online (COVID) to finalize the project and check if 100% everything was fine. Everything financially was reviewed. Before starting, they took over all the communication with the HOA. Once approved by the HOA, the project was started. I now have 28 beautiful Solar Panels which cover 100% of my yearly usage. Would I recommend Cape Fear Solar Systems: YES.

We have had Sunpower Solar now for a little over a year now and are more then just pleased. We produce much more then we use. In fact we have a nice credit built up with the electric company. So far we haven't had any problems with the system and would recommend Sunpower to anyone.

We chose the item because we felt that it was a good program; unfortunately for two months the system was faulty and due to a mixture of rash estimates, faulty math, and general incompetence for 9 months are bills were wildly erratic and bore little relation to production numbers. The company seems to have outsourced each of their customer service/billing/production depts. and they fail to communicate with each other and no one seems to have any authority or ability to answer questions. Their help desk does not reply to emails. Our bills and production numbers have now settled down and we would be happy enough, but we are still in dispute over billing errors as the production records and billing do not match. I regret entering into a contract with such a systemically poorly-organized company.
