Skyline Solar VA (Out of Business)

Skyline solar closed its doors just after finishing our solar project. This left us feeling abandoned but Justin assured us he would take care of any issues. To date we have had had only one issue and it appears to be major (13 of 24 panels stopped working) but we have yet to even get it looked at after almost 3 weeks. The problem started when we apparently there was a power issue from Rappahanoc Electric early the morning of 12/19/2025 that tripped all 4 breakers on our Solar controller. I reset the breakers myself when it was discovered but other than a remote review of the system by Justin we were promised a service guy would be out last Thursday or Friday but never showed up and no phone calls from Appleton. I have 2 major concerns. 1. No surge protection was installed with the solar system, Though highly recommended by the manufacturer. 2. Lack of responsiveness by Appleton. Though we were promised to be taken care of. Tomorrow is the first Monday after the the 26-26 holidays weeks. If we get this taken care of I will amend this review.

I don't have my solar backup batteries; and was told by the one remaining owner, Justin Appleton, that a blowup between himself and the two other owners resulted in all installers being fired on 6/5/23. He claims to have re-hired them under his new company, Appleton Energy Systems, and will take charge of installations and warranty work. That is by no means assured if your contract is with Skyline Solar. For anyone writing a review after June 5th, I'd call DPOR (Department of Professional and Occupation Regulations) in your state, the FTC; the Better Business Bureau; and possibly a lawyer if you don't receive what you paid for. A Google Search lists the business as Permanently Closed.

A 25 year warranty means nothing if you can’t get the company to back it up. I have spoken to John and two owners of Skyline with empty promises they will be out to hook up our wifi to the system so we can see where our problem is. This has been going on since February 2023. I have also spoken to the bank that has financed the system and they add John to the line. Every time he says they will be out that week and we are still waiting. I would strongly recommend don’t use Skyline Solar because they do not back their warranty.

I have had solar installed on my home for over a year now. Since July I have had a broken panel and have been paying both solar and electric bills. I have been in contact with multiple people in the company, including the owner and they have done absolutely nothing. They refuse to reimburse me, they refuse to fix my broken solar system that THEY installed! I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. Incompetence is the precise definition of this company.

Skyline Solar did an outstanding job on our solar install and uplighting. They were fast, professional and personable through the process. Our system was installed in a day, and was permitted and running within 2.5 weeks.

After having done a crazy amount of research on solar and install options we landed with Skyline Solar. First, they were the only company to actually show up in person to look at our property. (The others all tried to do an estimate using a mapping software that plops us at our neighbors house) Second, they were the only company to suggest a ground mount, which is the only set up to get us to zero out with the power company. Install takes time, between inspections and permits it was not a quick install. The team was on time everyday they said they would be there. We’re in new construction and the builder did some “unique” things with the drain field piping. After accidentally cutting in to piping that wasn’t supposed to be there the Skyline guys stopped their work and immediately got a plumber on site to investigate and repair. We didn’t even have to ask We could not be happier with the results and our nearly non-existent power bill. The 36 panel ground mount is feeding 3600 sq ft SFH, 24x24 woodshop, and Tesla home charger.

Going solar with Skyline Solar will be one the best decisions/investments that you will ever make! You will be working with very professional and knowledgeable energy consultants that will answer any and all questions you have about their top of the line system. Going solar is not only good for the environment but saves you money!! Who doesn't like to save money?? Bottom line is...."solar is the future, Skyline is NOW!!" I'm super happy with solar system install and you will be too!!

The installation process went smoothly until the night the crew left after finishing the project. They left behind their own equipment and lots of debris. It got worse as each new day brought about more trash falling off my roof. Luckily no one was hurt. When brought to the owner’s attention he simply placated me and collected the trash. At no point did they even consider fulfilling my request that the roof be checked for extra debris. When the system was finally through inspection and the Enphase app was installed on December 9, 2021, I was relatively pleased even though there had been some annoyance. The crew left too much behind for me to clean up, disturbed my hardscaping which I had to repair, and may have done the installation incorrectly. The Enphase app still does not have the array. I have been informed via email that the array must be done by the installer. It is now February 4, 2022 and there is still no array even after several emails, texts, and phone calls to the installer. It gets worse, the consumption level shown by the app is between 40-50% less than it should based on the digital electrical meter installed. Doing more research, on my own time, it appears that this happens with improper installation. I have done calculations and provided the data to the one of the owners of the company but for the most part have been ignored. I would like to recommend the company as the installation went smoothly until it was clear the crew didn’t clean up as they should (it was cold and dark) but I was placated by the owner. All individuals in the company that I have dealt with have been professional, social, and have said the right things. However, actions speak louder than words! No one has inspected the roof, I still have no array, and the app consumption rate is incorrect! Therefore, even if they do install a superior product I cant in good conscience recommend doing business with this company.

I recently had Skyline Solar Va install my new Solar System. I have to admit they went above and beyond. From the initial sales visit to the site survey to the install. I really really appreciated the fact that one of the owners came out to do the site survey. I don’t know about you but I haven’t typically dealt with the owner of the company like this. Even if I wasn’t they sure did make me feel like I was a very important customer. Thank You Skyline Solar Va I appreciate the time that you took with me and my family

Daniel did a great job answering all of our questions from financials to the process of install. Justin and the install team were on time and on schedule and made things very easy for us. The county inspector even commented on the quality of work that was preformed and said it was the best he’s seen on a residential install. Thank you to the entire skyline team for making this process so easy!!

Justin and his crew installed a solar panel system on my home back in July 2018 and did an outstanding job. I am a very particular about my home and Justin and his crew exceeded my expectations. Like many I was very hesitant in the beginning due to the upfront cost, but after 2 years, I am still very pleased and know this was the right decision. The products are great and requires very little service or maintenance. Solar will save me a ton of money over the course of its life cycle. I recommend Skyline Solar as your local solar provider.
